Born with strabismus and severe vision issues, Ainhoa's early healing experience became foundational to her identity and later research. Her work highlights how stress, inflammation, and unresolved emotional tension can influence conditions such as myopia, astigmatism, and double vision. The conversation raises important questions about why glasses are often prescribed without investigating root causes like sinus pressure or chronic stress.Vision challenges can reveal far more than genetics or aging ever could. Perception reflects more than optics; it mirrors belief, physiology, and lived experience. If you're interested in trauma and eyesight, vision and stress, or improving eye health naturally, this perspective will shift how you understand sight itself. You'll Learn:[00:00] Introduction[04:54] Why Ainhoa threw her first prescription in the trash, and what happened afterwards[31:27] WHO data, COVID's catastrophic impact, and why 2030 projections are alarming[53:36] What the numbers actually show from the ClearSight method[01:07:21] The cases that keep proving what's actually possible with natural vision improvement[01:18:29] How screens damage eyesight beyond the blue light[01:47:35] How the sympathetic nervous system creates tunnel vision, and why presence reverses it[01:56:12] Multiple personality research, the three-hug story, and the emotional roots of specific eye conditions[02:10:53] What astigmatism, glaucoma, myopia, presbyopia, and retinal detachment each reveal about your inner life[02:36:59] What your specific symptom reveals about key relationships in your life [02:45:54] Nutrition, detox, and the liver-eye connectionResources Mentioned:Live to 100 | WebsiteA New World of Seeing by Natural Vision Educators and Dr. Ainhoa de Federico | BookDaylight Tablet | WebsiteThe Inner Cause by Martin Brofman | WebsiteAnything Can Be Healed by Martin Brofman | WebsiteImprove Your Vision by Martin Brofman | WebsiteRay | NetflixFind more from Ainhoa:ClearSight Method | WebsiteClearSight Method | InstagramClearSight Method | FacebookFind more from Alec:Alec Zeck | InstagramAlec Zeck | XThe Way Forward | InstagramThe Way Forward is Sponsored By:Paleovalley is 100% Grass-Fed Bone Broth Protein is a nutrient-dense, easy-to-digest source of collagen and essential amino acids. In this episode, instead of reviewing just one case, Sila Bal, MD, MPH, invites Neda Shamie, MD, to share her insights into challenging cases of astigmatism management during cataract surgery. Dr. Shamie explains how modern patients have higher expectations for optimized refractive outcomes and reviews her preferred techniques for astigmatism management in these cases. They discuss limbal relaxing incisions, arcuate incisions, and toric IOLs, and when to consider each approach based on the severity of astigmatism.
High astigmatism in pediatrics is one of the most common challenges optometrists face in the exam room. In this Case Reflection episode, Amrit walks through a case where she approached a young patient's high astigmatism in a way that went beyond the standard playbook.Instead of reaching straight for a full cycloplegic refraction and prescribing the high numbers, we undercorrected strategically and focused on the binocular vision issue driving the child's visual symptoms. The result? The child's acuity improved, their visual system developed more efficiently, and they didn't have to rely on an unnecessarily high refractive error. In this episode, we explore why high astigmatism often shows up in pediatric exams, talk about the limitations of relying only on cycloplegia, and share how functional prescribing and binocular vision treatment can transform outcomes. If you've ever wondered how to manage high pediatric prescriptions in a way that supports long-term visual development rather than just clearing up the chart, this is an episode you don't want to miss! You can learn more from the following resources: Lens Power in Action by Robert Kraskin Optometric Management of Nearpoint Vision Disorders by Martin H. In this episode I share my jet-lagged reflections after speaking at the Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative Symposium. As an ambassador for the initiative, I discuss the fight against diabetic retinopathy, the most common cause of vision loss in people with diabetes, and the ongoing advancements in diagnostics and treatments. I also address your questions, including the challenges of astigmatism, the discomfort of modern headlights, and long-term effects of nystagmus. Takeaways: Diabetic Retinopathy Is a Leading Cause of Vision Loss: Dr. Flannery explains how diabetes damages the small blood vessels in the retina, leading to blindness if untreated, and highlights the importance of early detection. Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative: This nonprofit is advancing research and treatment options for diabetic retinopathy, focusing on reducing the devastating impact of this disease. Astigmatism and Night Driving: Dr. Flannery discusses the challenges astigmatism poses, especially with modern LED headlights, and highlights solutions like glasses, contact lenses, and specialized intraocular lenses. Nystagmus and Eye Movement: He explains why people with congenital nystagmus often don't perceive the motion of their eyes and debunks concerns about long-term damage from constant eye movement. The Power of Advocacy: Through his work with the Mary Tyler Moore initiative and engaging with fans, Dr. Flannery emphasizes the importance of education and community in addressing preventable vision loss. — To Get Tickets to Wife & Death: You can visit Glaucomflecken.com/live We want to hear YOUR stories (and medical puns)! Host Ben LaHood, MBChB, PGDipOphth, PhD, FRANZCO, FWCRS, and guest Florian T.A. Kretz, MD, FEBO, discuss optimizing the A-constant and surgically induced astigmatism in cataract surgery—two topics featured in CRST's recent cover focus on astigmatism management. Together they delve into the multifaceted nature of A-constant optimization and the complex challenges of surgically induced astigmatism. Femtosecond Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS) has been around for over a decade, yet there isn't necessarily consensus amongst the eye care community as to how this technology should be implemented within cataract surgery. Some advocate strongly for FLACS, citing greater reliability and precision than traditional cataract surgery. Others have argued, however, that even if the femtosecond technology has improved accuracy, this doesn't necessarily mean that it translates to better cataract surgery results. Dr. Eric Donnenfeld joins the podcast.
Dr Ben LaHood and Ms Lucia Pelosini discuss the effective strategies for managing astigmatism. They delve into key aspects such as patient assessment, selection processes, and the treatment of astigmatism in regular and irregular eyes. They also analyse the latest data on the RayOne EMV Toric and share invaluable insights to help achieve optimal outcomes with toric IOLs.
