“Today is all about 7's…”   We can't believe it…it's officially been SEVEN years since we began our podcasting journey, and as of this episode, we are celebrating SEVEN years of heavy metal podcasting excellence!  And in the spirit of heavy metal greatness, what better way to celebrate and commemorate the completion of our SEVENTH year than a tribute to the best thing MTV ever did for metal heads that started way back in the late 80's: HEADBANGERS BALL!!!   “It was the novelty, because that was the only place where you could get it…”   Premiering on Saturday April 18, 1987, MTV began what would become a weekly Saturday night tradition and/or ritual for metal heads with HEADBANGERS BALL, the one section of MTV that belonged to the metal community…it was OUR show, OUR music, and OUR videos, made by metal heads for metal heads (ironically, not unlike this podcast).   “SEVEN!”   Granted, there were often a lot of glam and hair metal videos mixed in, but there were always a plethora of obscure thrash, power metal, and other assorted heavy metal videos on there that you absolutely could not see anywhere else on MTV except for when you tuned in to “The Ball” (NOTE:  this is where the crochety “back in my day” sentiment comes into play because, as everyone with access to the internet knows, in the late 80's, rock radio sure as hell wasn't doing much to promote metal artists, and we certainly didn't have Spotify or YouTube at our disposal. “The Ball” was all we had…mark the time.).   “They weren't Trans then, dude…they were 100% dudes and they were the Savatage Brothers…”   Break out your finest relaxers and get ready for a celebratory stroll down memory lane, and understand that since we're discussing music videos, you're gonna need all the sensory enhancement you can muster to thoroughly maximize your enjoyment of this episode. When the storm comes, giraffes don't run. They don't hide. They stand tall and face away from it. Maybe that's exactly what we need to do. Show Notes In this episode of Shark Theory, Baylor shares one of his favorite late-night research discoveries and the powerful life lesson hidden in how giraffes handle storms. At three in the morning, a random question led to a fascinating insight: where do giraffes hide when it rains? The answer is simple and powerful. They don't. Instead of trying to curl up or seek shelter they can't find, giraffes stand tall and face away from the storm. Researchers suggest that lying down in mud would require more energy to get back up once the storm passes. So they take it head-on, minimizing impact and conserving strength. Baylor connects this to how humans handle adversity. When storms hit in relationships, careers, or personal growth, most people run, hide, blame, or avoid. Very few choose to stand tall and deal with it proactively. Using boxing as another analogy, Baylor explains the concept of rolling with the punches. You're going to get hit. Storms are inevitable. But how you position yourself determines how much damage you take. Avoidance often makes problems worse. He wanted to show off her beauty to the people and the officials, because she was very beautiful. But Queen Vashti refused to come at the king's command that was delivered by his eunuchs. The king became furious and his anger burned within him.II. The King's feelings get hurt   Esther 1:13-15The king consulted the wise men who understood the times, for it was his normal procedure to confer with experts in law and justice. The most trusted ones were Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan. They were the seven officials of Persia and Media who had personal access to the king and occupied the highest positions in the kingdom. The king asked, “According to the law, what should be done with Queen Vashti, since she refused to obey King Ahasuerus's command that was delivered by the eunuchs?”III. The bad advice born out of selfish fear  Esther 1:16-18Memucan said in the presence of the king and his officials, “Queen Vashti has wronged not only the king, but all the officials and the peoples who are in every one of King Ahasuerus's provinces. For the queen's action will become public knowledge to all the women and cause them to despise their husbands and say, ‘King Ahasuerus ordered Queen Vashti brought before him, but she did not come.' Before this day is over, the noble women of Persia and Media who hear about the queen's act will say the same thing to all the king's officials, resulting in more contempt and fury.IV. The law takes center stage     Esther 1:19-22“If it meets the king's approval, he should personally issue a royal decree. Let it be recorded in the laws of the Persians and the Medes, so that it cannot be revoked: Vashti is not to enter King Ahasuerus's presence, and her royal position is to be given to another woman who is more worthy than she. The decree the king issues will be heard throughout his vast kingdom, so all women will honor their husbands, from the greatest to the least.” The king and his counselors approved the proposal, and he followed Memucan's advice. I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 8th of January, 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Gospel of Matthew 12:30: ”He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.” Very strong words spoken by the Master Himself, our Lord Jesus Christ. Then we go straight to James 4:4, out of the Message translation: ”You're cheating on God. If all you want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God and his way.” Very strong scripture. Folks, we cannot serve two masters. Either we are for Him, or we are against Him. We cannot be undecided.The Lord says in Revelation 3:16, ”I'd rather you were ice cold than lukewarm, but if you are lukewarm, I will spew you out of my mouth.” I really believe that we need to stand up and be counted. We cannot be undecided. Do you know why? Because if we are hunting with the hounds one day, and running with the hares another day, then we'll be nowhere at all!I read a little illustration by a man of God, which I thought was very special. What he is saying is like the ivy creeper and the oak tree. “The ivy may give the oak a grand and beautiful appearance but all the while it is feeding on the vitals of the oak tree.” He says, ”Are we compromising with the enemies of God? Are we being embraced by the world, it's honours, it's pleasures, it's applause? And in the meantime, this may add to us in the world's estimation, but our strength becomes lost.” We have to make up our mind, are we going to be for God or not? You see, if everybody is your friend, then you don't have any friends. We've got to be salty. We've got to call sin by it's name and we've got to walk according to the word of God if we are going to be effective for Him and not swallowed up eventually by the system of the world.Today, the Lord wants to encourage you and I to stand tall so that people know who we are.Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day.Goodbye.
