The whiparound, like the weekend's NWSL action, doesn't exactly quicken the guys' pulses on today's episode (00:41). But there are many important things to address with the Washington Spirit's 1-0 road win against the Orlando Pride, not least of which is the handling of Ashley Hatch's concussion (10:48). This week's featured game takes us down to Kentucky, where the Wave pasted Racing 4-1. But what was going on beneath the surface? Is San Diego a contender? Do the underlying data or the eye test (plus a soft schedule) tell the realer story of Louisville's first five games (19:07)? Is Orlando the best team in the NWSL right now? They just might be. An emphatic 3-2 victory over the Washington Spirit on the road cemented what could be a hyper-organized defense with Barbra Banda as the tip of the spear. Other teams, attack at your own peril. Evan and Eric dig into what made Banda so special, as well as what the future might hold for the Spirit--and Ashley Hatch--once Leicy Santos and Jonatan Giráldez arrive in June. Ella & André react to the Spirit's narrow loss to Orlando Pride – well, more accurately, Barbra Banda. The Zambian star made her first NWSL start and showed why she was worth several bags. We discuss what worked and what didn't when defending Banda, the lineup tweak to start Paige Metayer over Ashley Hatch, Ouleye Sarr's perfect self-assessment, Bethune's first assist, and Trinity Rodman seeking her first goal. Then we look ahead to Wednesday's game against the Chicago Red Stars. It was considered one of the biggest snubs of the Women's World Cup in 2023. Ashley Hatch has been around the United States Women's National Team since 2016, and even played in multiple games for the national team in 2023. And yet, when the roster for the Women's World Cup team was released, Ashley's name wasn't on it. The tough thing is that, like many disappointments in life, Ashley doesn't really have an answer for why it didn't work out the way she'd hoped. She does, however, recognize that she has the power to choose how she responds to that disappointment. “It's an opportunity to either lean into your faith, lean into your testimony, or it's an opportunity to lean away or push it away.” —Ashley Hatch Links & References: World Cup snubs The latest on Ashley's Olympic hopes Temple open house storySee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Did you miss us? We're back after the longest two week break the world has ever seen and we are here to talk NWSL & World Cup sendoff matches. First up, the NWSL! The NWSL table is on fire and it's because of unexpected results across the league. We dove head first into San Diego vs. Spirit at Snapdragon Stadium and the wild 2-2 draw that saw a PK, the start of Ashley Hatch's Revenge Tour, and young talent in the SD lineup. We're also talking movement in the table. Next, it's the World Cup sendoff games starting with Zambia's 3-2 win vs. Germany that rocked the world before the tournament has even begun. Disturbing news on Zambia's Head Coach has come to light, and we tackle that with a heavy heart. Finally, it's England vs. Portugal and USA vs. Wales. Cause for concern for England? Was this a strong send off performance for the US? A special shoutout to Mike Adams, who usually edits this podcast but has the flu and we missed him dearly this week! Annie & André discuss the Washington Spirit's 2-2 draw with San Diego Wave! Taylor Kornieck being tall may have prevented the Spirit from heading into the break with all three points, but there were a lot of positives as well.
