Turner Sparks started playing in punk and ska bands when he was a kid and found stand-up back in 2009 when he was working in China. He opened a comedy club, then a Mister Softee business and both flourished until the government had other plans. He's been living in New York City for the past eight years and he's headlining shows all over the country. His album, "Double Happiness," reached No. 1 and is on Sirius XM's comedy channels and he hosts the Lost in America podcast with co-host Michael Kaplan. They released "Lost in El Salvador," a series where he learns another country through its comedy scene, on YouTube in hopes of having it picked up. 'Shaken Not Stirred' at The Sofia A new performance this weekend at The Sofia, Home of the B Street Theatre, combines dance and the music behind the world's most famous fictional spy - James Bond. Shaken Not Stirred runs Saturday, March 9 at 7 p.m., as well as Sunday, March 10 at 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Artistic Director and Choreographer Jacob Gutiérrez-Montoya and Assistant Artistic Director Kendra Barrera from the Sacramento Contemporary Dance Theatre preview the song-and-dance performance, which includes a collaboration with the Samantics Choir.

Brandon A. McCall, a native of Birmingham, Alabama currently stars as Simba in Disney's THE LION KING on Broadway, having re-opened the show on Broadway in September 2021! McCall made his professional debut at the B Street Theatre in Sacramento, California performing in their school tour and children's theatre. Later, he brought his talents back to his hometown and began performing with Red Mountain Theatre Company. Credits include SISTER ACT, DREAMGIRLS, SMOKEY JOE'S CAFÉ, Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID as Sebastian and in SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK with Birmingham Children's Theatre just to name a few. He has been in the films Woodlawn and The Deadliest Lie and looks forward to having a more significant presence in the TV/Film industry. McCall's journey with Disney's THE LION KING unfolded with the national tour as an ensemble member/Simba understudy. He soon earned the lead role as Simba on the tour. After an 18-month Broadway hiatus, McCall is currently playing the lead role as Simba on one of Broadway's biggest stages in the heart of Times Square. He has also made appearances on Good Morning America, The View, ABC's Queen Family Singalong, NPR's Tiny Desk and more! He received his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from Alabama State University. Peter Petty's “Hepcat's Holla'Daze Swingin' Yuletide Revue” returns to The Sofia, Home of B Street Theatre. California Hall of Fame Amanda Meeker, Executive Director of the California Museum, joins us to discuss the latest class of California Hall of Fame. This year's inductees include actor and singer-songwriter Lynda Carter, ice skater Peggy Fleming, and soccer player Megan Rapinoe. Meeker also shares details of the museum's latest exhibits. SCUSD fentanyl warning Zach Didier was a 17-year-old senior at Rocklin's Whitney High School with dreams of attending UCLA. Although Zach was accepted, he would never step foot on campus. The teen's life was tragically cut short by Fentanyl poisoning just days after Christmas in 2020. Zach was just one of the more than 10,000 Californians who died from drug-related overdoses from October 2020 to September 2021, with Fentanyl accounting for more than half of those deaths, according to the state. Since then, the opioid crisis has only worsened. In Sacramento County alone, over 800 people were hospitalized for opioid overdoses in 2021 and claimed the lives of 174 others. In October, we spoke with the Sacramento City Unified School District about its plans to distribute a potentially life-saving drug to prevent poisoning and overdoses on all of its campuses. CapRadio Sacramento Education Reporter Srishti Prabha joined us to provide an update on that effort and how Zach Didier's family and others are sharing their stories. Jason Kuykendall performs in regional theaters all across the country and has had various roles in television and film.
