In the 1970s, Gregory Harrison went east to Hollywood. The son of Catalina Island's glass bottom boat captain, Gregory began dreaming of a career in acting when a Doris Day movie was filmed on and named after his father's Glass Bottom Boat. Now 120 IMDB credits into his career, Gregory joins us for a debriefing. After serving as an Army medic during the Viet Nam War, Gregory's guest star appearance on MASH in 1976 foreshadowed his earning the role of Gonzo Gates on Trapper John MD in 1979, which was around the time Trapper began to look more like Pernell Roberts than Wayne Rogers. Gregory starred in the TV version of Logan's Run, a role that required a lot of running, which trained him for an appearance on Battle of the Network Stars where he met his future wife, Randi Oaks (competing for a rival network.) He's most proud of his role in Centennial, the epic mini-series based on the James Michener novel. A TV event so beloved that fan gatherings are held today where enthusiasts can tour the original sets!Gregory just completed a three and a half year run on General Hospital, his first soap, on which he got to guest star with his daughter, Lily Anne Harrison. Hallmark fans know him as Joe O'Toole on the Signed, Sealed and Delivered movie series. And a fun fact is that the 8x10 glossy that Gregory is most often asked to sign is a shirtless pose from the TV movie, For Ladies Only, in which a struggling actor makes ends meet by stripping. Who, amongst us with a rock hard body doesn't relate? Also joining us is journalist and former White House correspondent Brian Karen. Brian is directing a documentary titled Trump: The First 100 Days. (It's a horror movie.) His new book is called Free The Press and his upcoming event at The Comedy Chateau in North Hollywood on February 27th is Free Speech and Comedy with special guests Tom Arnold and Hal Sparks. In Recommendations —Fritz: Sly Lives! Brian Stokes Mitchell is a two-time Tony Award-winning actor who has always thought the universe chose him. Born on Halloween when “people dress up in costumes and pretend to be other people”, the stars have indeed decided. Aside from performing, he also writes, dances, produces his own music, and orchestrates, but out of all the things he can do, his best quality is being a really good student. He details his latest project, “HOPE”, realizing that sometimes creative works have their own timing - this video dropping exactly when we need to hear it the most. He presents a profound metaphor about life as a "long sentence" full of commas rather than periods, and what his “dead questions” are. With an upcoming role in “3 Summers of Lincoln” at the La Jolla Playhouse, he recounts how the project deeply resonated with him upon reading the script. Aside from all his projects, he always makes sure to give back to the community–from being chairman of the board for the Entertainment Community Fund for 19 years to providing entertainment from his balcony during the pandemic. Stokes shares how curiosity continues to motivate him, and why we should follow our heart in all our endeavors. Brian Stokes Mitchell is a two-time Tony Award-winning, Drama Desk Award-winning, and Outer Critics Award winning actor. He is renowned for his powerful baritone voice and dynamic stage presence with standout performances in Broadway productions like “Ragtime”, “Kiss Me, Kate”, “Man of La Mancha”, and “Shuffle Along”. He's become a celebrated figure in musical theater, but beyond Broadway, he has showcased his talent on television, including shows like “Vampirina”, “Wolverine”, “Billions”, “Mr. Robot”, and of course, “Trapper John, M. D.” He's also recognized for his philanthropic work, particularly for his 19 years of serving as chairman of the board for the Entertainment Community Fund, and is a member of the Theater Hall of Fame since 2016. Marta Kristen was born Birgit Annalisa Rusanen, on February 26, 1945, in Oslo, Norway, to a Finnish mother and a German soldier who was killed towards the end of World War II in Europe. Marta was only two months old when she was left in an orphanage. In 1949, Dr. and Mrs. Harold Soderquist of Detroit, Michigan adopted her, and brought her to America; she was renamed Martha Soderquist. In 1959, the family moved to L.A. and she attended Santa Monica High School for a year; she later graduated from Hollywood Professional School. Producer/director James B. Harris discovered the pretty, petite aspiring actress; he arranged for her to get an agent, and she was quickly booked for TV programs, such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Loretta Young Show (aka "The New Loretta Young Show"). In 1963, Marta met a graduate student and, 6 months later, they got married. Her career took off and she made a splash as the mermaid "Lorelei" in Beach Blanket Bingo. She would be best-known and remembered, however, for her signature role of "Judy Robinson" in Lost in Space.  Marta is also known for her work in Battle Beyond the Stars, Murphy Brown, Fame and Trapper John.    Want to watch: YouTube Meisterkhan Pod (Please Subscribe)

Just so you know who the guy is supposed to be, but it is not a spin-off. We also meet Gonzo,  a young doctor who doesn't always follow the rules. Sound familiar. We also had a doctor who is kind of a jerk and always sucking up to the board of directors. Again, sound familiar? The main story is about an older man who doesn't want his family to take care of him after almost dying in a hotel fire. Nice feel good story.

TV In The Basement : Television's greatest shows and the occasional movie

"Trapper John, M.D." is a medical drama television series that aired from 1979 to 1986, serving as a spin-off from the film "MASH". The show is set roughly two decades after the Korean War and follows the character Dr. John McIntyre, known as "Trapper John," portrayed by Pernell Roberts. Trapper John is now the chief of surgery at San Francisco's Memorial Hospital. The series blends drama and humor to explore the personal and professional lives of its medical staff, particularly focusing on the contrasts and camaraderie between the conservative, experienced Trapper John and his younger, more progressive colleague, Dr. George Alonzo "Gonzo" Gates, played by Gregory Harrison."Trapper John, M.D." was well-received for its nuanced storytelling, addressing various medical and ethical issues, and for its portrayal of the evolving field of medicine.

Friends who used to be 30 Something, Wingnuts, and Field of Dreamers, lend me your ear (s), and your eyeballs. Emmy-winner Timothy Busfield is a scream! His Burt Lancaster alone is worth the watch. Hysterical, and right on point. Tim's amazing bride, Melissa Gilbert joined us for a sec, she'll be back! But she was a big part of the conversation––how they met, and where––great story. I love how he loves her, and her, him. Their togetherness is epic. We talked how they do it, handle challenges, and resolve them, so quickly. Merging their families - both married for the thrice time… co-parenting and grandparenting, building a home, and a life. Ain't love grand. We talked Tim's early years in Michigan, his mother, her challenges, his father, and his. Tim getting the bug after seeing Burt Lancaster on the big screen, and going full circle co-starring with him in Field of Dreams so many years later––the challenges of that film. First, theatre out the wazoo… Actors Theater of Louisville to Circle Rep… being Matthew Broderick's understudy on Broadway in Brighton Beach Memoirs and never getting on - Trapper John, getting an actors education, Nerds, Stripes, thirtysomething, his first gig with a guy named Snuffy, turns out there are 10 so far, 12 with Melissa's… starring on Broadway for Sorkin, Sports Night, The West Wing, Studio 60 on The Sunset Strip, his two theatre companies intended to serve the young - the guppies did he call them? Being of service a major theme throughout. Turning down hosting SNL, thrice, auditioning for it without knowing, giving up the drink two weeks ago, how and why… his latest, The Cleaning Lady, and more importantly, his next binge with Melissa and their morning flight to Florida. We talked for almost two hours, from LA to Michigan to Upstate NY and the UWS…. and I could have talked all night. Ridiculous fun. Down to earth, open, warm, thoughtful, helpful, funny, loving, fun, fun, fun. Do they come more likable than Tim? You'll have to prove it. Stuart Pankin on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson There are no accidents and no mistakes. A cancellation led to a speedy opportunity, that I'm so grateful to have had. Five-time nominated and CableAce Award winner for HBO's, Not Necessarily The News, Stuart Pankin, originally scheduled for August, jumped in tonight, and what an absolute joy! We talked about the early days, how this constantly working actor never had to have a day job, with one short exception, funny story here. From Columbia University to theatre from off off off, to repertory, Shakespeare in the Park, how fellow sword carrier, Kevin Kline changed his stars, to Lincoln Center… landing in the land of LA with a bit of TV work, some unemployment, and then a handful of years later, the game-changer, anchor and player on the award-winning, Not Necessarily The News. Over 300 television appearances and loads of movies followed. We talked his co-starring role in Fatal Attraction opposite Michael Douglas, Hollywood Knights with Robert Wuh, Striptease with Demi Moore, Arachnophobia, and Honey We Shrunk Ourselves with Rick Moranis, Curb with Larry David, Trapper John with Gregory Harrison, and his current VOD, Deep In The Forest, and the soon to drop, Our Almost Completely True Story, great stories, all! I love when artists I adore are just as wonderful humans, Stuart Pankin is all that, and a truckload of Cheetos. What fun! Book Vs. Movie: MASHThe Richard Hooker book Vs the Robert Altman Film (with some of the long-running TV series mixed in)MASH was one of the most popular and iconic television shows of the 70s and 80s (the reruns are still happening all over the globe!). Richard Hooker(nee Hiester Richard Hornberger) based the 1968 novel on his experiences in the Korean War as a surgeon. The novel filled with crazy antics, drinking, and a satire of the U.S. Army fit well in a time when the Viet Nam War was dividing America. Characters like Hawkeye Pierce, Trapper John, and Hot Lips Houlihan will sound familiar to fans of the series (though they behave differently.) You also meet “the Painless Pole,” Ho-Jon, and Duke Forrest in a series of vignettes that make up the novel. It's hard NOT to picture adapting this book as you read it. Robert Altman directed the 1970 film and it is a very different beast than what was broadcast on television. Starring Donald Sutherland and Elliott Gould, the film is profane, chaotic, modern-looking, and has some very problematic things attached to it. So, between the original story and the 1970 film-which did we prefer? In this ep the Margos discuss:The popularity of MASH around the worldHow the Viet Nam War is a stand-in for the Korean WarThe differences between the book and the movie and how much the author hated itThe cast: Donald Sutherland (Hawkeye Pierce,) Elliott Gould (Trapper,) Tom Skerrit (Duke Forrest,) Sally Kellerman (Margaret Houlihan,) Robert Duvall (Frank Burns,) Roger Bowen (Henry Blake,) Rene Auberjonois (Father Mulcahy,) Jo Ann Pflug (Dish,) John Schuck (The Painless Pole,) and Gary Burghoff as Radar O'Reilly. Ka-ching! Donna Pescow is, even more, a dream than I'd hoped. The woman is hysterical! I loved the non-stop laughs, coupled with great showbiz stories, and thoughtful reflection of the work, and the people. From Miss Sing at Sheepshead Bay HS to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, to a Best Supporting Actress Award by the New York Film Critics Circle, tearing up the dance floor and the silver screen alongside John Travolta in the iconic, Saturday Night Fever, to starring in Angie, garnering a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress and a People's Choice Award nomination; starring in Out of this World, being the first lesbian character portrayed on a soap opera with All My Children's Dr. Carson in the 80s, to co-starring on Even Stevens, where she earned three Emmy nominations. There were loads of other roles on stage and screen, we talked The Love Boat, and Gavin, Trapper John, and Gregory Harrison, I forgot to ask about The Sopranos, merde! But we did dive deep into Saturday Night Fever, director John Badham, Travolta, acting alongside him, dancing with him, then and now, the car, the bridge, the obsession, the boobs, Karen Lynn Gorney, Joe Cali, Paul Pape, The Bee Gees, Andy Gibb… great stories about Garry Marshall, Robert Hayes, Garry Marshall, Burt Reynolds, Robert Hayes, finally playing Rizzo in Grease with Barry Williams, Belinda Carlisle, and Casey Kasem, her longtime husband, Arnold, dieting, COVID, working again, dining again, and being downright adorable! Loved every moment, and hope this is the beginning of more, more Donna onscreen, and in life. What a joy! She was worth the years wait, and then some! After earning a Master's degree in broadcasting and film at Stanford, where he made several prize-winning documentary films, he was accepted as a writing-directing fellow at the new American Film Institute in Los Angeles. At age 24 he wrote and directed the successful 1972 blaxploitation film Cool Breeze, but after his next film, This is a Hijack, flopped, Pollack changed careers. In 1980 he graduated from University of Oklahoma Medical School. My grateful Thanksgiving offering… promise it’ll make your day, even more than the stuffing. Just as I don't have a favorite kid, Samantha, I don't have a favorite show, this. Not. But, it sure is up there. Gregory Harrison, Trapper John MD, Sisters, The Middle, Logan's Run, The Harrad Experiment (you're welcome, Michael), to name very few, after going full Franken, offered up absolutely stellar conversation, filled with jaw-dropping, amazing stories. And, what a storyteller. Opened the show with my Parisan romance, swoon, jumped into Gregory growing up on Catalina Island, Edgar Harrison, Aimee Semple McPherson, Al Franken, the Vietnam War, being a medic, being a non-religious concientious objector, Louie CK, Battle of the Network Stars, marriage that lasts, and why it works, cocaine, Betty Ford, recovery, Trapper John, Jason Robards, political activism, Richard Chamberlain, Centennial, believing he can do anything, what’s right and what’s wrong, what’s good and what’s bad, what’s true and what’s false. Living in gratitude all day, every day. And the #1 takeaway - Gratitude is saying yes. Powerful reminders. Inspiring as hell. Hey, I can do that. Can too. So can you. Where Hollywood Hides: Television | Movies | Music | Show Business | Writing | Producing | Directing | Acting

Gregory Harrison’s commitment to his acting craft runs strong and deep. In this insightful interview, Greg tells a story that takes us from his life as a dinner theatre bar bouncer-actor to acting classes at the Stella Adler Academy, to early roles that took him to the pinnacle of TV, film, and stage stardom. You’ll hear how Greg went from working as an “extra” on The Harrad Experiment—where he and Suzanne first met—and how dedication to learning his craft eventually led to guest starring roles on TV shows like Barnaby Jones, Wonder Woman, and M*A*S*H.   Greg’s lifelong love of surfing was used to great advantage when he played “Chandler” in the iconic North Shore...a role that established him as both an actor and as a true “water man.” But it was his starring role in Universal’s Logan’s Run alongside actress Heather Menzies that truly propelled Greg into the pantheon of leading men. Greg’s enthusiasm for acting is obvious as he recalls his role in Centennial and the experience of co-starring in the landmark series Trapper John, M.D. It’s a wide-ranging conversation as Greg and Bob share “notes” about Greg’s role of “Michael Sharpe” on the last season of Falcon Crest, which leads to Greg’s thoughts about the state of film and television acting today. With hundreds of television, movie, and legitimate theatre performances to his credit (The Gathering, The Women’s Room, Dark Skies, Au Pair, CSI, Rizzoli & Isles, Fair Haven), Greg Harrison’s career is the reflection of a man who is far more than just an actor or a “Hollywood celebrity.” He’s also an award-winning theatrical producer (more than 60 plays) and as the driving force behind his Catalina Productions. A devoted family man—he’s married to Chips star Randi Oakes—Greg Harrison has achieved unparalleled success on every level. In this interview, you’ll learn that it’s all come as the product of intelligence, discipline, creative instincts, and hard work. Greg share’s his insights about the craft, career, and business of acting, revealing a man of many dimensions continuing to carry his talent and celebrity with exceptional grace.

We're all in for a real treat this week as Eric and Marie welcome Trapper John Tice and Jeff Headlee from the AIMS Team and Destination America's hit television Mountain Monsters. In the first half hour, Shawn Donley and Marianne Donley from Dark Shadow Ghost Tours and Panic'D for a new episode of the Haunted Spotlight. At 8:30 pm we're joined by two founding members of the A.I.M.S. team Appalachian Investigators Of Mysterious Sightings John "Trapper" Tice and Jeff Headlee. Trapper is the lead investigator and Jeff is the researcher on Destination America's hit tv show Mountain Monsters now in it's 4th season. We'll be talking Bigfoot, Mothman and other strange creatures the A.I.M.S team have attempted to track and trap over the past several years. We'll talk to them about the success of Mountain Monsters and more. About the AIMS Team: AIMS was founded by Trapper John Tice, Jeff Headlee and Willy McQuillian. We all had known each other for some time but it wasn't until several years ago that we realized that we all shared an interest that would soon evolve into AIMS. We had all grown up in the Appalachian Region and for years had heard the stories repeated over and over by our families of unusual and mysterious sightings of creatures and beasts in the the Appalachian area. All of us thought the stories to be nothing more than legends or folklore, even though the folks telling them seemed to believe they had some real substance. Any skepticism we might have had in our early years disappeared for each of us in different ways but we all soon became believers when we had our own personal encounters with these creatures. Our encounters were so vivid and real that soon, upon realizing that all three of us had similar experiences, we all pooled our interest and became somewhat obsessed with these mysterious sightings. We know that many of you reading this will do so with a healthy dose of skepticism. We understand. We felt exactly the same way until we had our own personal experiences. We would only ask that as you review our website and look into our organization that you keep an open mind. If you do, we promise that you may experience something that will change your life and have you rethink what is real and not real in this world. Their mission at AIMS is to investigate mysterious sightings of creatures and phenomena in the Appalachian Regions, as reported by individuals who are frequently scared that they will be laughed at and ridiculed for what they saw. Upon investigating these reports we will move to track, trap and capture these creatures. In the end we will either know that our witness actually saw a mysterious beast or that no beast exists. We want to help these people to have peace of mind and know that they are not alone in their mysterious encounters. To learn more about the AIMS Team and Mountain Monsters visit their websites http://www.aimsa.org/ http://www.destinationamerica.com/tv-shows/mountain-monsters/ Tune in this week for what's sure to be one of our most entertaining and interesting shows to date as we welcome Jeff and Trapper from Mountain Monsters and the AIMS Team this week on Beyond The Edge Radio.

He reveals that he suspects a security leak in the camp and will be investigating, presenting LTC Henry Blake with a number of aliases and demanding his full cooperation. Meanwhile, Hawkeye and Trapper John meet Trapper's friend Captain Pratt, who is an Army Intelligence officer. Pratt is undercover at the hospital to see what Flagg is up to, claiming Flagg had ordered the helicopter to crash and then broke his own arm in order to "infiltrate" the 4077th. Pratt explains his presence in the camp to Frank Burns by saying that the US Army Engineers are thinking of making MASHs amphibious; Frank reveals his naivete by believing Pratt's story. Pratt also blackmails Henry into cooperating with him. Soon the two spies are after each other, and Hawkeye and Trapper John decide to have some fun by tricking both spies into going after Major Frank Burns, making Pratt believe Burns is a right-wing fascist and making Flagg believe Burns is a left-wing communist. M*A*S*H Today we cover Season 2, Episode #8 - The Trial of Henry Blake 32nd Episode Overall Directed by  Don Weis Written by McLean Stevenson, Larry Gelbart, Laurence Marks Production code K408 Original air date November 3, 1973 Set during the Korean War in the 1950’s Plot Summary: Lieutenant Colonel Henry Blake faces a disciplinary review after several complaints from Majors Burns and Houlihan. Among the issues at hand are the 4077th's Kentucky Derby Day, in which the doctors raced around the compound pushing nurses on gurneys; allowing Radar to sell wing-tip shoes tent-to-tent; and failing to stop Klinger's attempt to desert on a homemade hang glider (resembling "a big red bird with fuzzy pink feet"). However, the most serious charge is aiding and comforting the enemy in the form of giving supplies to Meg Cratty, a nurse who runs an orphanage in North Korea.Hawkeye and Trapper John attempt to go to the trial with evidence that will exonerate Henry, but Major Burns (in temporary command) confines them to quarters, guts the swamp and even strips Hawkeye and Trapper to their underwear. Trapper and Hawkeye escape and go to the courtroom, taking Nurse Cratty with them. She testifies that the North Koreans that Henry is accused of aiding were refugees and children at a civilian clinic. When Burns and Houlihan arrive at the hearing, they cite Hawkeye and Trapper's escape (and technical status as AWOL) as proof of Blake's being unfit to command. Blake defends himself, saying he never set out to be a junior General MacArthur, but that he was only a doctor trying to run a hospital, and that his aid to Meg Cratty improved the life expectancy of the babies born in the area. He then tells the hearing panel to hang him for that if they wish. The head of the hearing board would like to drop the charges in light of the new evidence, but Frank refuses, so Hawkeye and Trapper use what they know best to change his mind: blackmail. Hawkeye jots down a letter threatening to tell Frank's wife about Hot Lips, and of course Frank and Hot Lips give in and drop the charges.
