Celebrity Chef Katie Chin is an award-winning cookbook author, caterer, and Culinary Ambassador to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation. The daughter of restaurateur Leeann Chin, Katie grew up in the kitchen before beginning a successful career in film and television marketing—eventually returning to her culinary roots. She co-hosted the PBS series Double Happiness with her mother and has authored five cookbooks, including Everyday Thai Cooking and Katie Chin's Global Family Cookbook. Rochelle Siemienowicz grew up as a strict Seventh Day Adventist. Her first experiences of art (particularly writing) was the bible. In terms of food, she went through a renaissance in culinary life when she left the church and was in her early 20's. Turner Sparks started playing in punk and ska bands when he was a kid and found stand-up back in 2009 when he was working in China. He opened a comedy club, then a Mister Softee business and both flourished until the government had other plans. He's been living in New York City for the past eight years and he's headlining shows all over the country. His album, "Double Happiness," reached No. 1 and is on Sirius XM's comedy channels and he hosts the Lost in America podcast with co-host Michael Kaplan. They released "Lost in El Salvador," a series where he learns another country through its comedy scene, on YouTube in hopes of having it picked up. Hello and welcome! Episode 75 is a conversation with my old friend, Texas / Bay Area punk legend Gary Floyd. Possessing one of the most distinctive, soulful voices of the first wave of US hardcore punk fronting his band The Dicks Gary was always more than a singer; he was a trailblazing ‘out' queer icon from the get-go. I mean just consider what it meant to be punk band in Texas called ‘The Dicks' with a communist hammer and sickle in their logo fronted by a singer who at times looked like a down-home version of Divine singing songs about hating the police at the dawn of the Reagan era. That is hardcore. Gary was always a rebel among the rebels. In our conversation we talk about the dawn of The Dicks, his life before that, and his move to San Francisco where The Dicks became The SF Dicks and later morphed into Sister Double Happiness.  If you haven't already watched the documentary ‘The Dicks from Texas' by Cindy Marabito I highly recommend you do so to learn more about Gary and the Austin scene he was instrumental in building at the end of the 70's. Afghani superstar comedian Siar Mateen tells the harrowing story of how one year ago, he and his family escaped sure death at the hands of the Taliban in Kabul on multiple occasions and somehow got out of Afghanistan alive. From the moment Joe Biden made it clear to the world that he was pulling all US Troops out of Afghanistan, Siar's life as a pro-women, pro-freedom, forward thinking celebrity and host of the wildly popular TV program Shabake Khanda, changed. For his views, he was now a wanted man by The Taliban, and death would be his fate if they could catch him.From mid-August until October 2021 Siar and his family were hidden in back rooms and closets of friends and allies in Kabul, eventually disguised as a wedding party on their way to a ceremony in order to leave the city and almost caught and killed by The Taliban on many occasions.
