Recent directing includes the world premieres of Eva Luna adapted by Caridad Svich from the novel by Isabel Allende (Repertorio Español), The Garbologists by Lindsay Joelle (Philadelphia Theatre Company), The Same Day by Stefan Ivanov (Sfumato Theatre, Bulgaria), Scissoring by C. Quintana (INTAR), and the Drama League-nominated Carla's Quince, which she conceived and developed with The Voting Project Ensemble to mobilize Latiné voters to the polls. Born in Los Angeles, California, Brown made his Broadway directorial debut with a 1970 revival of Noël Coward's Hay Fever.Under Brown, Long Wharf produced more than 200 plays, some 70 of which were staged by Brown himself. His specialty at Long Wharf and in New York was realistic American plays of the mid 20th century, often in revival. Notable Brown-directed productions include works by Arthur Miller (The Crucible, A View From the Bridge), Eugene O'Neill (A Touch of the Poet), and Rod Serling (Requiem for a Heavyweight). His directing credits also include The National Health (1974), Ah, Wilderness! (1975), Watch on the Rhine (1980), Privates On Parade (1982), American Buffalo (1983), Open Admissions (1984), Private Lives (1992), and The Twilight of the Golds (1993). Brown also has carved out a career as a director of operas, including Porgy and Bess at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.[1][2][3] [4]Brown has directed for numerous television series, including multiple episodes of NCIS, Leverage, Lie to Me, The Practice, Ally McBeal, Crossing Jordan, Kevin Hill, Everwood, and The Closer, and single episodes for Picket Fences, Party of Five, Chicago Hope, Dawson's Creek, Judging Amy, Ed, Private Practice and Shark, among many others. He also directed the television adaption of The Gin Game featuring Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore. The actor, director, teacher, and author, John Shepard, began his professional career at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival where he was a company member for 4 seasons. Subsequently moving to New York, he worked in regional theatres like The Long Wharf, Yale Rep, Barter Theatre, Actors Theatre of Louisville, and many others. Off Broadway, he performed at The Manhattan Theatre Club, Soho Rep, The Public Theatre, Lamb's Theatre, and others. On Broadway, he worked in American Buffalo with Al Pacino, in which he also toured the U.S. and played on London's West End, and John also appeared in A View from the Bridge.             Career highlights include the stage version of George Orwell's 1984, in which John played Winston Smith, at the Wilma Theatre, Kennedy Center and Joyce Theatre, and the world premiere of Eduardo Machado's Fabiola at the Theatre for a New City.            John spent time in L.A. pursuing TV and Film work, appearing in many episodic TV series including L.A. Law, Spenser: For Hire, Dallas, Quantum Leap and others. John's feature film credits include Sneakers and Patriot Games.             After receiving an MFA in Acting from Cal State University, Long Beach, John became a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and finally at Point Park University, where he taught for over 20 years and was the Theatre Department Chair for 10 years. John's book “Auditioning and Acting for the Camera” is used throughout the country. Backstage Magazine named it one of “11 Amazing Books for the On-Camera Actor.”            John remains active in the Pittsburgh theater and film community, appearing in many plays for The REP, City Theatre, Quantum, PICT and the Pittsburgh Public Theatre. Highlights include playing Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman for the REP, (for which the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette named him Performer of the Year), and Ralph in A Christmas Story at the Pittsburgh Public Theatre.             John has also directed numerous productions, including August Osage County for Point Park's professional theatre company, The REP, and Tamara for Quantum; both were named best productions in their respective years by the Post-Gazette.            While in Pittsburgh, he's appeared in TV shows like: A League of Their Own and The Chair, and in Films like The Race, Fathers and Daughters, Homemakers, and The Deliverance directed by Lee Daniels.

In February of 2022, Long Wharf Theatre, one of the country's most respected regional theaters, released a bold statement. Starting with its 2022/23 season, the theater will not renew the lease on the space it has occupied for 57 years on the outskirts of New Haven, CT. Rather, under the leadership of artistic director Jacob Padrón, who joined Long Wharf in late 2018, the theater will commit at least for a few years to an itinerant production model that “will prioritize equity, accessibility and transparency, guided by three core pillars: revolutionary partnerships, artistic innovation, and radical inclusion.” Coming at a time when, especially in the wake of the pandemic, theaters all over the country are grappling with ways to reinvigorate and diversify their production models as well as their audience base, Long Wharf's announcement made waves. Did this mark the beginning of the end of the traditional regional-theater model? In this interview with Pier Carlo Talenti, Jacob — who is also the founder and artistic director of The Sol Project and whose career includes innovative producing stints at such august institutions as Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre and New York's Public Theater — explains the impetus for this sea change in the theater's production model. “The difference between stage and screen acting is vast, but it's the same root. It's just some of the techniques are very different. I really know theater because that's where I started. I went at it in a very haphazard way. I had a very haphazard approach. It was not orderly at all. I didn't go to a proper school or anything like that. After fooling around in Europe for almost a couple of years, just because I'd gotten out of the army...and didn't really know what to do or how to do it. And so I just went and while there I did some acting, but nothing very remarkable except doing a nightclub with William Burroughs. That was great fun. I did a little bit of studying here or there...Jeff Corey (and at one class in New York) someone said something that helped me a great deal. Governor Gavin Newsom says he's close to a deal with state legislators on a reopening plan for elementary schools. He says he's committed to balancing safety with the importance of getting kids back in classrooms. Reporter: Katie Orr, KQED A 28-year-old-man has been arrested in Oakland in connection with a series of attacks on the elderly in the city's Chinatown. The assaults have gained national attention with growing concerns about hate crimes against the Asian American community.  A lawsuit has been filed to end in-person traffic and eviction hearings in Los Angeles Superior Court. The legal aid groups claim that during the pandemic, courtrooms are unsafe for court staff and defendants alike. And on Broadway twice, most recently as Lt. Daniel Kaffee in Aaron Sorkin’s “A Few Good Men.” He has also directed more than 35 professional productions and written dozens of children’s plays. Mr. Busfield founded two of America’s most successful professional theatres, The Fantasy Theatre (AKA the B Street School Tour) and The B Street Theatre, both in Sacramento, California. Now in their 33rd season, the theatres perform annually for over 250,000 children and adults at their facility in Sacramento and in schools throughout northern California. He has an honorary PhD from Michigan State University and has served as an Artist in Residence and Director of National Content for their PBS affiliate WKAR. For $2,500 a year, food trucks get a designated spot each day. At Long Wharf, another $500 gets them hooked up to electricity. It's good when business is booming. When British General Thomas Gage arrived in Boston in 1774, he was met on Long Wharf by the patriot leader John Hancock at the head of an armed militia unit... But not for the reason you think. Since 1772, Hancock had been the Captain of The Governor's Independent Company of Cadets, an elite unit that provided ceremonial bodyguards to the Massachusetts governor. When Gage took over as military governor of the province, sparks flew. He summarily fired Hancock, and war broke out soon after. They have been known through the centuries as the Governor's Cadets, the Independent Company of Cadets, the Boston Independent Company, and the First Corps of Cadets, and they've served Massachusetts and the United States in domestic emergencies, and wars from the Revolution to the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
