Karen Swan is a favorite with binge reading listeners. Her appearance on the show at Christmas time last year was one of the most listened to episodes of 2022. So it's great to have her back on our Encore program. That's the one where people who've already been on the show, come back to talk about their latest book and for Karen it's her latest holiday special, The Christmas Postcards. In case you're asking yourself why a show that ran in December, 2021 is in the 2022 best of lineup, it's because we have to take the stats from December 1 of each year, December 1st, 2021 to December 1st, 2022, to give us time to produce a show by January one. Next week, we'll start posting the top 15 for 2022 and we're dividing it over two weeks, so there's not too much to listen to in one show each week. You're getting excerpts from a great range of genres from romance to thriller, women's fiction to historicals. So don't miss it. That's just the way it all came together. Bardzo mało jest seriali, które towarzyszą widzom przez wiele lat i z którymi widzowie mogą dorastać. Dobrze jest mieć serial, który co roku wraca z nowym sezonem. Hello! Welcome to this special bonus episode of the audio commentary podcast hosted by me, David Hughes. For this episode, we thought we'd try something different: instead of a commentary by a filmmaker, we decided to ask author S J Watson to talk us through the 2014 film adaptation of his novel Before I Go To Sleep. Watson didn't have much to do with the film, which stars Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth and Mark Strong, which gives the author a fascinating insider/outsider perspective. Needless to say, we are grateful to the author for agreeing to record the commentary – and if you like the film, we suggest you read the source novel and his latest book, Final Cut, which is about a documentary filmmaker visiting an English coastal town with a disturbing connection to her own past. Buy it from Hive because Amazon has enough customers. As always, you can listen as a podcast, or cue it up to the film, which – thanks to JustWatch – you can find here (UK) or here (US). Comments? Feedback? Suggestions? Email David *at * Rogue-Commentary *dot* com or send us a tweet. We have lots of exciting episodes in the works, so if you like what you hear – or just the idea – please subscribe, and remember to rate us wherever you hear this podcast – it'll really help us to keep going. Oh, and follow us on Twitter and/or Instagram to stay up-to-date on our forthcoming releases. Thanks for listening! Hosted by David Hughes. Produced by Sam Ibrahim. Music by Olli Oja. Simon and Kassia speak with Richard Skinner, director of the fiction programme at the Faber Academy, one of a number of creative writing schools established outside the traditional university context in recent years. Richard created the academy's flagship 'Writing a Novel' six-month course in 2009 and since then has worked with hundreds of writers. Notable graduates include SJ Watson, whose debut novel Before I Go To Sleep became an international bestseller and Andreas Loizou, whose The Devil's Deal was translated into nine languages. In his own life Richard is a novelist, poet and critic. We spoke about how the Faber Academy course works, and also put to him some of the common criticisms levelled at creative writing programmes.
