When my just 16-year-old son asked me yesterday, who are you talking to on the show tomorrow, I started building a list of films and TV series in my head to explain to him who my guest is, Tim Roth.   But there was no need. “Mr Orange” was my son's response. “Cool.”   Mr Orange is, of course, the character Tim Roth played 30 years ago in Quentin Tarantino's debut feature film Reservoir Dogs, released in 1992. You'd be hard pressed to find another debut feature that announced the arrival of a new filmmaker in such a violent and memorable manner as this cult classic did.   Reservoir Dogs began its ascent into the halls of independent filmmaking fame at the Sundance Film Festival at the beginning of 1992. It was the most talked about film of the Festival. The talk didn't stop there. Reservoir Dogs was selected for Cannes and screened at many other prestigious Festivals, such as the Toronto Film Festival.   And yet, the majority of people saw the film after the release of Tarantino's hugely popular follow up, Pulp Fiction.   Tim Roth appreciates how his career has been built on people taking a chance on him, and throughout his career he's always tried to return the favour, often working with first time directors like Tarantino. Roth went on to appear in four more Tarantino films; launching the British actor internationally. Roth may have two recent and well-known TV series to his name - She Hulk and Tin Star - but to this day it's Tarantino's timeless classics which continue delivering Roth a new generation of fans.   Reservoir Dogs, made for US$1.2 million, introduced us to what would become known as the Tarantino Effect - a trademark visual and narrative style of filmmaking that incorporated brutal, stylised violence, a nonlinear narrative, pop culture references, retro soundtracks, a dark sense of humour, close up shots, and a unique rhythm of dialogue in philosophical conversations about day-to-day things.   While all this has turned Tarantino into a critically acclaimed, commercially successful and influential filmmaker, his work is not without controversy. Many words have been written about Tarantino glorifying graphic violence – so let's just put it this way; you're either a fan or not.   30 years later the impact of Tarantino's debut feature is still evident in the work of each new generation of filmmakers. Tim Roth can not have known what signing up to do Reservoir Dogs would do for his career, but it's great to see he's still taking a chance on new directors, this time New Zealand director Welby Ings and his debut feature, Punch.    See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Au casting, vous pourrez croiser Richard Dormer (Game of Thrones), Sofie Gråbøl (The Killing) ou encore Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (The Witcher).

In this episode, hosts Alan Sanders and Walt Murray get a chance to sit down with Caroline Daley and Michael Caputo of Pod Clubhouse. Alan and Walt were featured on their show, Interview with a Podcast, which dropped in January of 2021. On that show, Caroline and Michael like to bring a spotlight on other podcasts. Alan and Walt had such a fun time being interviewed, they wanted to return the favor here in season 4 of The Wilder Ride. Caroline Daley and Michael Caputo of Pod Clubhouse each started in media separately, but found each other via a radio program. It did not take long for the two of them to realize they fed easily off each other and it led to the creation of a new podcast. The concept behind Pod Clubhouse was to bring other podcasts and voices together in the spirit of collaboration. As Michael says, they believe in the concept that a rising tide lifts all boats. As they embarked, their brand has become an umbrella for several different shows. While they still think of Interview with a Podcast as their primary show, they have added shows related to dozens of television and streaming shows, a movie themed show where they are looking at 52 weeks of Christmas movies, a show called, Decorating the Set and one called PCH Press Pass. There are several other members of the Pod Clubhouse team, all of which can be found on their website under the About Us page. As we wind down the interview portion of the show, Caroline and Michael encourage folks to proactively reach out to them if you would like to join forces on an episode. There is no guarantee, but life is easier for them if people feel comfortable reaching out to them. As the episode continues, Walt dives into his horrible movie review, which was selected by members in our Facebook Listeners Group. In this episode, hosts Alan Sanders and Walt Murray meet the family members who make up the New Age group, 2002. The story begins with husband and wife, Randy and Pamela meeting in high school theater. They both had a love for music early in their lives. The two would go in separate directions after high school, getting involved with various bands as part of their musical journeys. After nearly a decade, circumstances returned them both to the Texas area where they reunited. That would eventually become the team who would create the New Age group, 2002. The choice of that kind of music actually came from an event where Pamela was asked to play random, soothing melodies on her flute at a gathering. At the end, those in attendance wanted to know where to buy their music? From the simplest of starts has grown one of the most renowned and successful new age groups of the last few decades. As their daughter, Sarah, grew up in a musically gifted environment, she soon developed her own skills, both as a musician and a singer. Soon her talents were added to mix, creating even more depth and variety of music and melodies. Their most recent album, Hummingbird, is available for digital download and the physical media will be available in mid-July 2021. As one well-respected critic, Steve Shepherd, writes, "It is hard to explain this, but whilst writing this review I haven't spoken, drank, or moved, and barely even breathed, and only just realized I hadn't even saved my work, this is how amazingly great this album is, I kid you not, this is without doubt the best instrumental album that 2002 have ever created. Hummingbird will probably go down in musical history as one of the best examples of 21st century New Age music there is, as it really doesn't get any better than this." Tracks heard in the interview are:  Sacred Mountain from Hummingbird River of Stars from River of Stars Seoithin Seo Ho (Hushaby, Hush) / Gartan Mother's Lullaby from Celtic Fairy Lullaby Gathering the Clouds from Hummingbird After the interview, Walt provides a movie review of Waterworld. Then the two breakdown some crazy items in the news of the past week, followed by the entertainment segment, where the dive into what they have been watching, reading and listening to since the last episode. WATCHING Walt started the series Formula One: Drive to Survive. He also started some binge-watching of MASH on Hulu. Alan watched Honest Thief with Liam Neeson and enjoyed the somewhat predictable film. He also started to watch the series, Tin Star, with Tim Roth, which started in 2017. He re-watched Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, a guilty pleasure for him and his wife. On YouTube, Alan watched Ashleigh Burton's reaction channel where she covered Tremors, Caddyshack, Ed Wood and Smokey and the Bandit. On the channel Popcorn in Bed, he watched Cassie and her sister react to a first-time watch of Jaws. He always catches The Daily Doug, especially on Iron Maiden Monday's and The Charismatic Voice, where the host looked at the performance of the song, "Fear of the Dark," by Iron Maiden. READING Both of our hosts were slackers this week, having nothing useful to share here. LISTENING Walt continues the engrossing but disturbing podcast, Camp Hell: Anneewakee. He also listened to the recent episode of Smartless with special guest, David Cross. Finally, he recommended the podcast, Stuff You Should Know. Alan continues to listen to 2002's music, the podcast Radio Labyrinth and the 60MW Podcast. Stone in the Sky (Roaring Brook Press) The Baseball Player and the Walrus (Dial Books) Please join us tonight as we celebrate the launch of Cecil Castellucci's Stone in the Sky, as well as the paperback release of Tin Star and the 10th anniversary of the release of Boy Proof, which was just named as one of the top 100 best YA Books of All Time by Time Magazine! For today's event Cecil will be joined by Ben Loory, who will be launching his first children's book The Baseball Player and the Walrus! "Brother Blue. His name, even the color, filled me with a furious fire of pure hatred." Years ago, Tula Bane was beaten and left for dead on a remote space station far from Earth, her home planet. She started with nothing and had no one, but over time, she found a home, a family, and even love. When it's discovered that the abandoned planet beneath the station is abundant with a rare and valuable resource, aliens from across the galaxy race over to strike it rich. With them comes trouble, like the man who nearly killed Tula years ago—the man she has dreamed of destroying ever since. In this sequel to Tin Star, Cecil Castellucci takes readers on an extraordinary adventure through space in a thrilling and thoughtful exploration of what it means to love, to hate, and to be human. Cecil Castellucci is a two-time MacDowell Colony fellow and award-winning author of twelve books for young adults, including Boy Proof, The Plain Janes,First Day on Earth, Year of the Beasts, and Tin Star. She lives in Los Angeles. . . . From acclaimed short-story writer Ben Loory comes a sweet and poignant story of friendship. Once there was a famous baseball player who seemed to have it all. He made lots of money and had fans from around the world. But, he didn't have the one thing he wanted most—happiness. That is until he went to the zoo. There the baseball player sees a walrus who “makes funny noises” and “flaps its flippers” in glee, and he decides he wants the walrus in his life. When the baseball player leaves his job to spend more time with his new best friend, trouble arises in zoo paradise. Hopefully, the pair can find a compromise that will keep everyone happy and even leave a little time for one last game. The Baseball Player and the Walrus brings the love of baseball and of friendship together in a humorous story of how we find happiness in the most surprising of places. Author Ben Loory lives in Los Angeles and is the acclaimed author of Stories for Nighttime and Some for the Day, which Kirkus has called “one of kind.” His short stories have appeared in the New Yorker and on NPR's This American Life. Visit him at www.benloory.com. Illustrator Alexander Latimer lives on the outskirts of a national park, where rogue porcupines wander the nearby streets, though he has yet to find any walruses. He is also the author of The Boy Who Cried Ninja, Lion vs. Rabbit, Pig and Small, andPenguin's Hidden Talent. Visit him at www.alexlatimer.co.za.

Tin Star (Roaring Brook Press) Skylight Books' very own Cecil Castellucci returns to launch her newest YA novel, a sci-fi adventure for the ages.  Cecil will follow a reading from her novel with a Q&A with JPL scientist Steve Collins! On their way to start a new life, Tula and her family travel on the "Prairie Rose," a colony ship headed to a planet in the outer reaches of the galaxy. All is going well until the ship makes a stop at a remote space station, the Yertina Feray, and the colonist's leader, Brother Blue, beats Tula within an inch of her life. An alien, Heckleck, saves her and teaches her the ways of life on the space station. When three humans crash land onto the station, Tula's desire for escape becomes irresistible, and her desire for companionship becomes unavoidable. But just as Tula begins to concoct a plan to get off the space station and kill Brother Blue, everything goes awry, and suddenly romance is the farthest thing from her mind.Cecil Castellucci is a two-time MacDowell Colony fellow, an award-winning author of five books for young adults, and the YA and children's book editor of the Los Angeles Review of Books. Born in New York City, Cecil lives in Los Angeles. For the research of Tin Star, Cecil attended LaunchPad, a NASA funded workshop intended to teach writers of science fiction about the most up-to-date and correct space science. Steve Collins is an Attitude Control engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.  Most recently Cruise ACS System Engineer for the Mars Curiosity Rover, Steve has worked on numerous NASA/JPL missions including Epoxi, Dawn, Deep Impact, MER, Deep Space One, Galileo and Mars Observer.  In flight, Steve's job includes keeping the spacecraft pointed in the right direction, performing trajectory corrections and figuring out "what the heck just happened??"  When he's not flying a robotic spacecraft around the solar system, Steve can be found playing soccer, racing his Miata, jamming on the Theremin with the band Artichoke, or acting on-stage with TACIT, Caltech's resident theater company.
