This week's featured guest is Ben Weaver, vice president of commerce, licensing, and consumer products at Morning Brew. While Ben was attending college in Texas, he got an eye-opening look at how one design firm catered to ad agencies and marketing firms. Learning the ideologies behind successful campaigns from that experience helped give him a leg up when he was later thrown headfirst into product marketing at Chive Media Group. Although he worked in strategy, Ben helped formulate and support many of the brand's early marketing campaigns. Fast forward to today and you'll find him in hot pursuit of his new goal: figuring out how to turn big fans of Morning Brew's content into paying customers. In this episode, we cut through the clickbait and get straight to the lessons within Ben's winning methodologies. Get ready to tell all your friends about this forward-thinking lesson!Guest Bio:A lover of Texas and dogs, Ben has had plenty of opportunities to grow with powerful brands throughout his career. The words he lives by are “simple is best.” This minimalist mindset has taken him far in both his personal and professional lives. For Ben, the pandemic shed light on his former workaholic habits while also giving him the opportunity to recommit to the people (and furry friends) he loves most. Ben has since found more balance, confidence and success as a result of his self-mastery. Key Takeaways:We learn the difference between natural and unnatural-sounding native marketing. Ben shares his insight on which email marketing KPIs matter most.We discuss the importance of keeping it simple and throwing out all the rules. Ben tells us about the #1 marketing tactic his favorite brands all use – something you can take to create an email newsletter people will actually look forward to reading. We discover what happens when creativity overcomes red tape.

Energy and climate issues play out across our society—in books and film, institutions of higher learning, our democracy, and in the very air we breathe. Once again, this July, Thursdays were Fresh Energy summer webinar series days! Many special guests joined Fresh Energy each Thursday for four fun and engaging discussions about the many facets of energy in our lives. From science fiction to popular Hollywood films, energy and climate are part of the arts today. How accurate are these depictions, and can they spur action? Fresh Energy's Anjali Bains, lead director of energy access and equity, sat down with writer Naomi Kritzer, Olga Tchepikova-Treon with the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities' department of cultural studies, and artist Ben Weaver. P.S. Want a taste of our electric future? Register to join us at the Fresh Frolic on August 24 at The Market at Malcolm Yards for an all-electric end-of-summer celebration! Meet the Panelists: Naomi Kritzer | she/her | Writer Naomi Kritzer has been writing science fiction and fantasy for over twenty years; her fiction has won the Hugo Award, the Lodestar Award, the Edgar Award, and the Minnesota Book Award. Her newest book is Chaos on CatNet, which is a sequel to Catfishing on CatNet, and is set in Minneapolis. She lives in St. Paul, Minnesota, with her spouse, two kids (when the college kid is home from college) and four cats. The number of cats is subject to change without notice. You can find Naomi online at naomikritzer.com or on Twitter as @naomikritzer. Olga Tchepikova-Treon | she/her | University of Minnesota, Twin Cities Olga Tchepikova-Treon is a doctoral candidate and graduate instructor in the UMN cultural studies department, where she is writing a dissertation on disability aesthetics in alternative film cultures. Currently finishing up a Fellowship at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and National Museum of American History, her ongoing research looks at the ways medical films are used in art cinema contexts. To Olga, teaching film as cultural and historical commentary is one of the best things about working in the university environment. Her favorite place in the Twin Cities is the Trylon Cinema, where she volunteers at the box office. Ben Weaver | Artist Ben is a poet, songwriter, letterpress printer/book maker, public speaker, and endurance cyclist. Ben creates work that breaks down the emotional and systemic structures separating humans from the ability to feel our connections to the greater web of life and each other. The songs and poems he writes and performs work to dispel illusions of division. They hold open space for the wisdom that sits within the trees, rivers, rocks, plants and animals to reignite the inherent stories of wildness and mutuality living inside us all. In 2012, Ben completed an Ironman Triathlon in Lake Placid, NY. When he crossed the finish line, he felt on top of the world. But the celebrations ended, and life grew quiet fast. It was in this quiet that Ben noticed something about his life: He was lonely. The next year, Ben spent his 30th birthday sitting on his couch alone. He realized his tunnel vision for goals and achievements had created a life of isolation. For thirty years, he had given people the stiff arm to his heart -- and he was painfully aware. After taking an in-depth inventory of his life, his priorities began to change. This new perspective involved people instead of performance. Relationships with others and with God became his central focus. Following this shift, healthy and authentic relationships began to form in his life. It was through this process that Ben learned a powerful truth he now lives by: Relationships aren't just something. Relationships are everything. Today, Ben's life looks different. His new approach has enabled him to regain his confidence while combatting insecurity and fear. Through vulnerable and authentic relationships, Ben has re-discovered his talents, passions, and calling. With relationships at the center, he is no longer running the race of life in isolation. Ben believes the world deserves a better generation of men, and he wants to help give it to them. His mission is simple -- to help guys reclaim the confidence they need to build strong relationships and make their dent in this world. Ben earned his master's degree in Christian Education/Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary. He is a native of St. Louis, where he has served as a Youth Pastor since 2011 and currently lives with his wife and daughter. He loves adventure, good music, long bike rides, snowboarding trips with the guys, tacos with his incredible family, and donuts. Being a writer takes courage. And lots of it. Why does it take courage? Because when you write, you put your words out there for people to judge and evaluate. You release your ideas into the world. Sometimes those ideas will not be received too kindly by people. Sometimes they won't be received at all. Being a writer is basically an exercise in courage. I'm excited to feature a conversation on today's episode that will help inspire your courage. My guest is Ben Weaver, the Founder & CEO of Bigger Story Consulting. Ben helps businesses get clear on their brand message so they get the revenue results that grow their businesses. Ben is also a certified coach with Business Made Simple and Storybrand, both companies created by Donald Miller. If you've heard my story, you know that my background is church ministry. That also happens to be Ben's background as well. On Thursday Feb. 22, 2018 Storymobile was at the East Side Freedom Library in Saint Paul to celebrate Meridel LeSueur. Meridel LeSueur, one of the great voices of the 20th century, was born on this day in 1900. Over the years I've had this subtle feeling that these mixes make themselves. The more I can step out of the way and let the mix reveal itself, the more unexpected it becomes. Slowly, it becomes in focus. This mix in particular tested my patience more than any other. Certain songs make up the seeds of the mix, and they provide the foundation from which other songs coalesce. Some of the seeds for this mix have been waiting patiently for nearly 15 years. As I listen I feel mixed emotions: deep, dark and changing like the ocean. Some have been buried and long forgotten, they begin to rise slowly to the surface as I focus my awareness into them. There is this quality of roughness around the edges, like waves crashing into rocky shores. I ask for forgiveness. "Colours come and colours go, summer sun and winter snow" Special thanks to Lukas Sowada for the inspired cover photography. I found this shot in particular really captured the feeling of the mix.
