SEASON 2 EPISODE 112: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Yes. I think that's the lead story. And I don't even LIKE Jon Stewart. But it's time to recognize that we are at war. It is, for now at least, a war being conducted almost entirely inside the media world, and here's a prayer that it stays contained within those walls. But if it is, the forces of democracy need all the fighters we can find. And Stewart - who has been mad at me since 2003 and once accused me of "stealing his act" - going back to host The Daily Show at least once a week and be the Executive Producer all the other days, at least through the election, is welcomed news. For that matter, I hope it inspires Maddow - who has been mad at me since 2011 - to be on the air more often at MSNBC. Meanwhile, I have had absolutely enough of "5 Takeaways From The New Hampshire Primary." Not only is the premise hackneyed, but The New York Times, The Washington Post, NPR, CNN, The Hill, and Agence France Presse all used EXACTLY THAT TITLE for their versions. And all of them left out the real takeaways: Trump needed to pretend to be a human being and instead lashed out in a rage against Nikki Haley that is now continuing into a third day and last night extended to Trump threatening to "ban" from MAGA anybody who contributes to her campaign (sure - he won't take somebody else's money; his least convincing lie yet). His fuse is completely gone. He also has now claimed he defeated the sitting governor of Iowa, I guess in the primary there, and near as I can find no sitting governor of Iowa has sought the Republican presidential nomination since 1912 so maybe whatever he has, has just moved into the tertiary stage. Plus: CNN's shame. Its 10 PM the anchor - the one it preempts once a week to instead run Charles Barkley - condescendingly parroted the right wing talking point that nobody in America wants Joe Biden. She should be fired, but given her ratings, they can do something worse to her: force her to continue doing her show. B-Block (25:04) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Frank Farian, the evil genius behind "Milli Vanilli," is dead. Until I read his obituary, I had NO idea that the scam came apart when a record skipped... in BRISTOL, CONNECTICUT. NewsNation is not satisfied with you not watching it on TV. Now it wants you to also not listen to it on radio. And the Maryland State Senate - led by Democrats - is trying to explain how the new member of the State Board of Elections just got arrested as a January 6th Insurrectionist. C-Block (32:11) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: With the Abby Phillip Right Wing Talking Point and CNN's continuing lurch rightwards - even under new post-Lichtian management - I think it's time to remind you that ALL the cable news networks have already had THE meeting and tried THE lurch to the right. At MSNBC it was 20 years ago and it was highlighted by the attempt to mainstream a homophobic racist named Michael Savage, and how the President of NBC was enraged when Savage crossed the line and had to be fired.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this week's 141 Report, Brother Lehive brings the viewers to Houston, Texas, to meet up with the Local 811 Grievance Committee. The Committee includes Carlos Ayala, Bruno Pereira, and Chairman Gary Welch. Welch is also a District 141 Vice President (At-Large). Carlos Ayala told viewers, "I started in the airline industry back in 2006. And have come up as a shop steward. And then eventually as a grievance committee person, here in Houston for local 811 under District 141." Bruno Pereira told Dave, "I've been in the airline industry with United/Continental since 1999. I started as a shop steward, and now I'm a grievance committeeman." Brother Gary Welch was asked about the Houston membership, which includes roughly 2500 people at IAH. The local is large, he said. "Having SM Cargo in our local and recently, had American Airlines Fleet Service join the Lodge. The UA GC here also oversees the moving team as well as stores in Houston." Brother Carlos agreed that the union workloads and responsibilities at 811 are significant, saying, "as the grievance Grievance Committee/ Secretary, I support the shop stewards and the committee with grievances." "I'm technically the bookkeeper," he said. "We don't let titles define all the work that needs to be done." Carlos discussed the abundance of office space that Local 811 has access to. "We are blessed to have basically two offices, one inside the airport, But we also have an office here at the local Lodge." Local 811 has an on-site office at the airport that allows easy access to members while they're on the clock. It also has a suite off-site, which is home to Local 811 and its sister Local 2198. Brother Bruno said of the work, "we all take a hands-on approach when it comes down to working with our stewards. We're very involved with them." Bruno went on to talk about how they manage monthly steward meetings at the local Lodge. He also spoke about the 65 volunteer shop stewards and the critical work they perform for the Houston membership. Brother Carlos talked about using modern communication stating they use live zooms. Along with WhatsApp groups along with several specialized Facebook pages. Carlos talked about walking the property and said the quickest and most secure way to communicate was via text, phone calls, and facetime. The Committee uses its Local website and bulletin boards to ensure all current updates and contact lists for shop stewards are available to the membership. Dave asked Brother Gary about how the lives have changed for IAH members over the last ten years. Gary replied, "I always remember when we were non-Union and the company just came in and took money from us, they took our wages from us." Gary reminded viewers how United tried to involuntarily furlough full-time agents to part-time in 2020 and how fiercely the IAM defended the membership. "And if you look back to this year, when the company was thinking about putting all the full timers down to part time and taking money from us. That right there showed it." "So the union has done a tremendous job helping the overall lives of the Houston people." In closing, the Committee thanks the Local Eboard and shop stewards for all the help and support.

How to train with the national team in Mexico City and to study at the same time college in Guadalajara 500km away? You'll discover it in this interview with a top taekwondo athlete.Carlos Ayala @carlos. ayala.yee is a former taekwondo Mexico National Team taekwondo athlete. His story is of perfectionism and constant challenge. He represented Mexico not only in Taekwondo but also in football (soccer). At 18, being a new young member of the taekwondo national team he went to his first international competition: the 1993 New York City World Championships at the Madison Square Garden. And he won a bronze medal. Two years later he would be Pan Am Games champion in Mar del Plata 1995.And he was part of the first national team in the world to beat Corea in a world tournament (1996 Rio de Janeiro World Cup).He now is director in a global firm. He also shared with us how elite level taekwondo training experience and his like for challenges has helped him in the corporate world. Please enjoy the interview with Carlos Ayala, a real taekwondo passionate lover.Football and TaekwondoCarlos Ayala's childhood was full of travelling and sports. His father had to move constantly to different cities for work and so does all the family.Carlos Ayala began playing football and he was part of the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (Mexican Football Federation) team.So he had the opportunity to represent the country in football and to play against teams of other countries like the United States and Canada. He started to practice taekwondo with two times world medalist and sparring lover GM Moritz Von Nacher. Then his family moved again to Guadalajara. And then he started learning with another legend of mexican taekwondo, GM Ramiro Guzmán.Training there he had the opportunity to train also with figures like Enrique Torroella, bronze medal in Seoul 1988 Olympics.Family and educationCarlos Ayala's family was strict but very supportive.Carlos and his siblings were able to practice the sport they wanted. As long as they put passion there and train giving their 100%.Beside their dojang was a gymnastics school, so he and his siblings started to practice gymnastics also. It is interesting the reason why Carlos Ayala decided to specialize in taekwondo. He shares with us that it was not because he felt an outstanding special passion for taekwondo. It was only that their school schedule was better to practice taekwondo instead of the other sports. It was not that his parents were thinking of making him a world medalist or something like that.Their priority was always his academic education.World Cup and traveling by plane every week.Carlos Ayala made it to the taekwondo national team very young. And also very young he became world medalist in 1993.He was from Guadalajara, 500km away from Mexico City, where taekwondo Mexico National Team trained and lived. By that time he earned an academic scholarship in one of the country's more prestigious and expensive universities. His parents couldn't afford a school as expensive as ITESM, so he really wanted academic success. The university was in Guadalajara, where he was from.To compete at the 1993 World Championships and Central American Games the university allowed him to pause his studies for one year to allow him to train. Later the moment came when he had to continue his studies and when he had no more chances to stop if he wanted to continue with the scholarship. He participated in the national qualification tournament for the 1996 World Cup and he won it. All the winners were called to train in Mexico city with the team. But he thought he couldn't make it, as he had to study in Guadalajara. The trainer Master Eun Seok Hong also wanted him in the team.So he had what he now considers a crazy idea. He arranged his school schedule to study Tuesday and Thursday. The Jalisco's state taekwondo association helped him to purchase flights so he could train from Friday to Monday at Mexico City.He feels that it was not the best preparation that he could have facing a World Cup.But it was the only way it could be done. And he also comments that he already had a lot of international competition experience and obviously you don't forge that. But he was not expecting anything. He went just for the joy of it.And that is how he got his best achievement in taekwondo. A great lesson, ideal conditions never exist. He could easily forget about taekwondo and focus on his semester thinking he would not be allowed to train and study. But he made all what he could do and it worked. It is always a pleasure to hear experiences of people that all of their lives has been fighters.I hope you enjoy the interview. Thanks for hearing.
