Drumming first hour then Carlton Livingston Like so many Jamaican artists, singer Carlton Livingston was first exposed to the joys of music in church. Born in 1962 in St. Mary, Jamaica, Livingston sang in choirs and in an informal harmony trio (which later morphed into Knowledge) before entering the music business in earnest when he recorded "The Tale of Two Cities" in 1978 at Channel One. He eventually ended up working with several of the top Jamaican producers, including Coxsone Dodd, Winston Riley, Sly & Robbie, Clive Jarrett, and King Jammy, among others. His signature song, "100 Weight of Collie Weed," was a huge island hit in 1984, and was the feature song on the subsequent album Fret Dem a Fret. Livingston recorded sparingly thereafter

Carlton Livingston,born in  Jamaica. Carlton began singing in church; Carlton mother Beryl and his older sisters were all very active in influencing  Carlton.In 1970 relocated to Franklyn Town and started a sound system “Fantastic Three” with his friends Lone Ranger. Tony Walcott heard the talent in Carlton and Ranger, and took them along with new comers Welton Irie and Puddy Roots . 1978 Carlton record :( TALE of TWO CITIES).  hits as (WHY)(HERE I STAND)and(PREDICTIONS).His first LP called “SOWETO” Carlton recorded (Mr. DJ) and (CUSS RASTA) for “U Brown's” label, and also recorded (TRODDING) and (TRICKS) for Sly and Robbie's “TAXI” label. Early 80,s Carlton  recorded for Clive Jarrett's “DYNAMITE RECORDS”  include(RUMORS)MARIE)and(CONFUSION).  Carlton recoeded for Clive Buisy (COLD WINTER).Carlton also linked up with Percy Chin and Junior from JA Life Records. created the dance hall hit (100lb A COLLIE WEED) In 1994 Carlton released a self produce CD called (Emotions)  hits as (A NO ONE DAY) and (I SAW YOUR LIGHTS). Carlton most recent CD,s include (Un-Forgiven) (Jamadon-1099) and (Retrospect)(Lighthouse- which is a compilation of his greatest hits.  His music has been covered by such singers as, Gregory Isaac, Dennis Brown, Sanchez, Carl Meeks and Shinehead. Grant Phabao presents The Lone Ranger - Usain Bolt The Puma (Free MP3 download on ParisDJs.com) 2012-08-03 After Usain Bolt's heart breaking false start, which left him disqualified from the 2011 World Athletics Championships, Jamaican deejay The Lone Ranger and French producer Grant Phabao decided to record Usain Bolt The Puma, an homage song to Jamaica's greatest sprinter (and, obviously, his sponsor). The song starts on a killer chorus hook before slipping into an unstoppable flow of no less surprising verses, filled with wiki-accuracy, wicked rhymes and dynamic rub-a-dub gimmicks. The reggae groove itself is relentless, tight and bumpy, like 70s Jamaica sounding heavy. While chillin' with Jamaican singers The Lone Ranger, Jim Brown and Carlton Livingston a few weeks ago at Paris DJs studios, Djouls and Grant Phabao asked them what they should do with the song, with the 2012 Olympic Games happening very fast and the buzz around Usain Bolt growling like thunder… The Jamaicans all replied instantly that the track should be put up and spreading, that all the "but what if he doesn't win this time?" doubts should be erased because there was "no way" he was gonna lose. Being asked "how do you know that?", the Paris DJs operators were offered the most simple answer: "because he is Usain Bolt". Singer The Lone Ranger was the number one soundsystem deejay between 1977 and 1981 on the island of Jamaica. A 100% authentic Jamaican legend from the big years of Studio One Records, The Lone Ranger has been bringing back the golden years of rub-a-dub lately with the Soul Stereo Soundsystem in clubs, with Jamaica All Stars on stage at the Garance Reggae Festival 2012, or in the studio with Grant Phabao, one of the rare producers to have restored the sound of 1970s' Jamaica. Based in Paris, Grant Phabao works with many reggae legends, but also international artists such as George Clinton (Parliament/Funkadelic), David Byrne (Talking Heads), Chuck D. (Public Enemy), Richard Dorfmeister (Tosca/Kruder & Dorfmeister), Quantic (Tru Thoughts) or Tony Allen (Fela's Afrika 70)… His tracks and remixes are played by the biggest DJs, including David Guetta (!). Paris DJs are an international music bureau operating from Paris (as its name says), which offers customized services to projects associating music and brands. Their thematic podcasts have already been downloaded by more than 2.6 millions of cybernauts. DJ Tomas – Umoja Hi-Fi Sound Station "I’m A Rootsman, Part 1: Deep Roots Mix" A 73 minute selection of deeper roots reggae music from the 1970s and ‘80s. This selection focuses on slower, dubbier tracks with conscious themes and lyrics. I was trying to invoke the spirit of reggae radio in the ‘80s – be it pirate radio in the UK, college radio in the US or Dread at the Controls broadcasts in Jamaica. Another inspiration was DJ Andrew’s foundation/roots underground parties in Los Angeles in the mid-90s. A UK native and carpenter, Andrew would hold late night affairs in small after-hours bars on Fairfax Ave, focusing on strictly roots and culture selections.
