In the 1990s, India's mediascape saw the efflorescence of edgy soft-porn films in the Malayalam-speaking state of Kerala. In Rated A: Soft-Porn Cinema and Mediations of Desire in India (U California Press, 2024), Darshana Sreedhar Mini examines the local and transnational influences that shaped Malayalam soft-porn cinema—such as vernacular pulp fiction, illustrated erotic tales, and American exploitation cinema—and maps the genre's circulation among blue-collar workers of the Indian diaspora in the Middle East, where pirated versions circulate alongside low-budget Bangladeshi films and Pakistani mujra dance films as South Asian pornography. Through a mix of archival and ethnographic research, Mini also explores the soft-porn industry's utilization of gendered labor and trust-based arrangements, as well as how actresses and production personnel who are marked by their involvement with a taboo form negotiate their social lives. By locating the tense negotiations between sexuality, import policy, and censorship in contemporary India, this study offers a model for understanding film genres outside of screen space, emphasizing that they constitute not just industrial formations but entire fields of social relations and gendered imaginaries. Mediation is a popular alternative dispute resolution method in divorce or family law matters. Many opt to participate in mediation seeking a settlement outside of court. Many picture being alone in a room with the mediator and the other party. In that room, they envision a scenario where both parties and the mediators talk, devise solutions, and resolve the case. Sometimes, having both parties in the same room is not a good idea. Arguing and bickering might occur if the parties are in the same room. The arguing and bickering might inflame the situation so that a settlement does not occur. Learn how the caucus approach to mediation may be beneficial. This podcast is based on an article on our Family Law Headquarters blog titled: What is the caucus approach to mediation? Contact our Tulsa, Oklahoma divorce lawyers to learn more at 855-805-0595.

Do you know that your brain works in different frequencies through out the day- from the time you get up to the time you fall asleep, and while you are sleeping!; these frequencies are defined as beta, alpha, theta, gamma, delta. It is being researched and proven that the slower your brain wave frequency, the better your mental and physical health. It is also being researched that slower brain wave frequency, gives you access to your subconscious mind- and it is being proven that our life, our decisions, our behaviour - in-fact, who we are, 95 percent of it, is controlled by our subconscious mind and 5 percent by our conscious mind. So, whats the big deal here? The big deal is that, we do-not know, that 95 percent of the time, we take decisions that are controlled by our subconscious programming. And, if we access our subconscious mind and re- programme it according to the WE that we want to become, or the life that we want to create, we will be able to manifest and fulfil the life, we exactly want to live. So, again how do we do this? By being able to control our brain waves and access our subconscious mind more frequently and reprogram it. Mediations are a way to do it. And, since i have been digging into this bit for quite sometime- i mystically came across this book- change your brain waves by Scholars and researchers Yukio and Susanne who explain this phenomenon through the practise of chantings. This Kapha balancing practice will be shaped around the pose Natarajasana; Lord of the Dance pose. We will be doing this pose in different gravitational planes to connect to the playful dance in the practice and to stimulate Kapha, bringing it to focus on the joy this practice can bring.Ayurveda is based on understanding 3 thingsYour Prakruti which is the nature of an individuals personal constitution Make-UpYour Vikruti which is the nature of your imbalanceYour bespoked Medicine in the form of Yoga, Pranayama, Mediations, foods, herbs, vitimans and other life style choices to bring you into harmony, optimising your health and well-beingThis session we will focus on Kapha Dosha which is a combination of matter and form dominated by the element of water and earth. Kapha provides stability and sustains the body tissues and nurtures the resource of fuel for our Prana, life energy, called Ojas.Reflecting on the previous sessions, Vata – Nervous System, and Pitta– Digestive abilities, Kapha is the cohesion that binds and holds things together in the body, the mucus and oil that lubricates joints and tissues. It has the greatest quality of structural integrity in the physical body and serves to protect us. The typical body type of a Kapha is the heaviest of the Dosha types, robust, well-proportioned, strongest and sturdy in build, they are more dense, carry more muscle mass, body fat and are bigger in bones. They usually find it easier to gain weight than lose it. Kapha Dosha types loves rest, sleep and lounging about. Kapha natured people are said to inherently move slowly, tend to be lethargic, which influences their pulse to be slower than the other doshas. Do to this, it is said that they tend to have the longest lifespan because of their slow metabolism and because of their restful state they have a stronger immune system and endurance in the body.Kapha physical traits usually include bigger facial features, wide eyes, big hands, smooth, firm, radiant and oily skin. They tend to have a deeper calming soothing voice, thick nails and hair, and long eye lashes. The character type of Kapha is one of being devotional, trustworthy, supportive, loving, caring, nurturing, very compassionate, empathetic and patient. They are self-reflective, emotionally calm, grounded and thoughtful. This is in us all and serves to keep us in harmony internally with ourselves and unite us with others. They are very forgiving. When they are with others they are fully present, they prefer creating depth in relationships which drive them to feel belonging.Kapha natured people have the endurance to retain what is received through deliberate effort, but are slow learners. They view work as being of service and find great meaning in their life fulfilling that purpose. They are consistent in loyal and reliable in action, once committed they do it faithfully overtime. They view a life that is worth living is one that is filled with love and enjoy the little things of life with all senses. They are easily pleased by the little joys of life and love things that are tried and tested. They don't like change. To read more and to practice with Zephyr Wildman, click here. Ayurveda is based on understanding 3 thingsYour Prakruti which is the nature of an individuals personal constitution Make-UpYour Vikruti which is the nature of your imbalanceYour bespoked Medicine in the form of Yoga, Pranayama, Mediations, foods, herbs, vitimans and other life style choices to bring you into harmony, optimising your health and well-beingThis is ideally pointing us to the middle path of being Sattvic in Nature, however imbalance happens, we categorise it as either going too much into Rajasic or Tamasic territory. Over the next three sessions we will look at the Doshas individually, relating to the Dosha when it is in harmony or out of balance. VATA DOSHA is said to be connected directly to the nervous system and what motivates the other Doshas to move. Vata is the expression of life energy, Prana, which works through the element of Wind and Space which is the active energy in nature, stimulating all things in motion. Vata has a typical type of body that is said to be the weakest build, delicate bone structure, thin, lean, light and small in frame, they don't carry much weight, hyper-mobile, cold, skin tends to be thin, transparent dry and rough and have fine hair, Character Traits of Vata are; being lively, fun, kind-hearted, easily enthused, high in energy, always on the go. You see them running around on their tip toes, limbs expressing their hyper-active and erratic energy. Mentally they are exceptionally creative, love chatting and they are always brimming with ideas, very imaginative. They have the greatest capacity for change and adaptation to life as they are very agile and responsive. They are quick to learn as well as quick to forget as they tend to be multitaskers and get easily distracted by something new.The exercise that Vata natured people tend to be drawn to, are solitary sports likerunning, cycling, swimming, walking, dancing and even Yoga but prefer doing them by themselves as this is time for them to get lost in their head while moving. The best diet for a balanced Vata is to eat warm, earthing foods, likes soups, cooked foods which are soft, sweet, sour and salty. As Vata is a combination Wind and Space aggravated Vata shows up in the body in a few ways where one gets DRIED UP & SPUN OUT. The first way is dehydration in the joints, tissues and dry, rough skin. They have poor circulation, cold hands and feet and highly sensitive to the cold. So stiffness and cracking of the joints that is present. They are on the go so much where they have irregular appetites and eating patterns. This imbalance in the wind element tends to make digestion sensitive to bloating, discomfort and constipation. They should avoid raw, dry, bitter and cold foods. If a woman, they have irregular periods. When they get ill it usually goes to the lungs. To read more and to practice with Zephyr Wildman, click here. To support Zephyr Yoga Podcast, donate here. Hosted on Acast. 1. If you knowingly married the wrong person, admit it in the divorce and correct the record.  A. You will then be mediating from a point of authenticity and strength. B. You don't have to negotiate the settlement outside of the laws of your state, but the voice you will have in the negotiation will be stronger, will not be blaming, but instead will be a voice from truth, and the truth will set you emotionally free. People think that getting more of a settlement than they thought they could get is the reward. I say, “No.” I say the reward is to be unshankled by the veil of dishonesty that covered up the truth of the relationship. 2. There are three divorces: Emotional, Legal and Social A. Go through the grieving before filing B. File with a healed heart C. Your social circle will change with a divorce 3. Don't try to win your mediator over by bashing your spouse. A. A good mediator will never be swayed by spouse-bashing, but you will put your mediator on guard against you. That means that the mediator has to work extra hard to remain neutral and just work on advancing the conversation, the negotiation, the settlement issues between the spouses. 4. Do not force settlement terms on your spouse. This will make your spouse not trust you, and trust is at stake here. A. Men do this to women more than women do this to men. B. And, men do this to women without receiving counsel from an attorney.  C. And it generally seems that the tone, the condition of the relationship, in those instances where a settlement agreement is proposed to the wife, is fragile, not amicable, and fraught with fear. D. Bring in the attorneys, cause that is the only way fear can be diminished.

Compartmentalize Time for Life Balance During Divorce

Constructive Uncoupling with Judy Weigle

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 5, 2023 36:43

In this episode of THE Amicable Divorce Expert, you will learn the following:   People feel out of control during divorce. (Expand)   People need to know how to incorporate the work that is required of them in the filing process, and in the decision-making process. Compartmentalizing time is the way to deal with divorce IF you absolutely have to work. If you have the luxury of not having to work, then make divorce your job and focus your attention on getting everything necessary for the divorce to move forward expeditiously.   We are a culture that supports and glorifies multi-tasking. Multi-tasking divorce into daily routines will make you sick and potentially cause severe illness. Multi-tasking is the last behavior that should be accepted. Separating everything necessary to deal with the legal side of divorce properly, with a clear mind and a calm heart is the only way to properly address the process of divorce.   Choose divorce professionals who understand and support the separation of your daily lives from your divorce life. Here's what I mean…Look at the time you have available outside of your jobs and outside of the schedules for your children for you to complete paperwork, go to mediations, engage in depositions, go to Hearings and Depositions, and any other meetings necessary for the divorce to move forward, and schedule those free times and/or personal days from work, to focus on the divorce. The operative word being focus. Good divorce decisions require nothing less than focus; focus of the mind, of the heart, and of the emotions. When we try and multi-task the divorce stuff into our regular daily stuff, we cannot give divorce stuff the correct focus and attention that it needs to be lasting and appropriate for your lives, especially once the divorce is final. People experience decision-makers remorse because their decisions were made too hastily.   Put a schedule together that allows you to work without interruption, that gives you valuable time with your children and all of the activities in their lives, and that provides for exercise and alone time. Look at the remaining time and that's what you assign for divorce work. Then share that schedule with your divorce professionals, and stick to it. Return emails, phone calls, and paperwork in the time assigned for divorce.   The only fly in the ointment of your well-crafted schedule will be Hearings, Depositions, a few meetings with those filing for you, and Mediations, The court isn't opened on weekends, so personal time from work will have to be taken. If you share that you're going through a divorce with either your Human Resources department, or your manager/business owner, you both can work together to craft a schedule that allows for work to continue and for your schedule to have flexibility.   Lastly, do not respond to angry texts and emails from your spouse during work or family time. That can be done within your divorce time. Nothing will disrupt your day more than mean emails and texts. Control this shit. Do not succumb to disruptive communication. Put it in its place! Your divorce time slot. We've come to the last chapter in Mark's gospelAnd to the enigma at the end of the book- that's because the story ends at Mark 16, verse 8• you say, “Chuck! My Bible still has more verses”◦ “Yes, I know, but read the fine print”• the most ancient manuscripts that we have in our possession end at verse 8◦ scholars tell us the quality of the Greek writing changes at verse 9◦ the evidence supports the abrupt ending- this has become a fascination for me – so, it has been a frequent meditation

In this special episode - taking the place of last week's audio failure - Jen runs a seeking for Robin, another Dork Tales member, who plays Tegan in Technocracy: Zero Sum. A seeking is a special quest a mage's Avatar sets them and usually involves a choice or decision that the mage needs to make in order to continue growing and developing as a mage - or, in mechanical terms, to gain a point of Arete. Technocratic seekings are usually very different than Mage seekings - and they're usually called Mediations or Epiphanies - but due to the plot of Technocracy: Zero Sum, Jen took some liberties. Enjoy! And regular Paradox Episodes will be back in 2 weeks on June 9th. --- Jen is a cast member at Dork Tales with a particular love for World of Darkness games, particularly Mage: the Ascension. "In other words, like David Foster Wallace — who celebrates McCain for his display of “‘moral authority'” and commitment to “‘service' and ‘sacrifice' and ‘honor'” — Clinton responds to the extremes of free-market ideology by imagining that “American community” can be rebuilt through the practice of what he calls “old values,” or what Hillary Clinton calls, in a 1993 speech, the “politics of meaning.” In this sense, Clintonian rhetoric offers a particularly clear, particularly influential example of the kind of centrist “communitarianism” that would shape American writing and politics – including the politics of the party's next president, Barack Obama, a self-described “New Democrat” – for at least a generation." – Ryan M. Brooks, Liberalism and American Literature in the Clinton Era (2022) What happens when the right scholar expands his doctoral research to insightfully engage with the pressing issues of a fragmented American society by drawing together and contrasting visions of Reaganite and Clintonian neoliberalism and its implications for literature and politics moving forward? The answer is Liberalism and American Literature in the Clinton Era (Cambridge UP, 2022) by Ryan M. Brooks, professor of English and podcast host for Humanities on the High Plains. Professor Brooks' book is the latest in the Cambridge Studies in American Literature and Culture which describes his efforts this way: Liberalism and American Literature in the Clinton Era argues that a new, post-postmodern aesthetic emerges in the 1990s as a group of American writers – including Mary Gaitskill, George Saunders, Richard Powers, Karen Tei Yamashita, and others – grapples with the political triumph of free-market ideology. The book shows how these writers resist the anti-social qualities of this frantic right-wing shift while still performing its essential gesture, the personalization of otherwise irreducible social antagonisms. Thus, we see these writers reinvent political struggles as differences in values and emotions, in fictions that explore non-antagonistic social forms like families, communities and networks. Situating these formally innovative fictions in the context of the controversies that have defined this rightward shift – including debates over free trade, welfare reform, and family values – Brooks details how American writers and politicians have reinvented liberalism for the age of pro-capitalist consensus. Some of the other writers discussed in this interview: Bret Easton Ellis, Sesshu Foster, Sapphire, David Foster Wallace, Colson Whitehead William Davies, Nancy Fraser, David Harvey, Georg Lukacs, Joe Klein, Robert Reich Ryan's critical and literary studies recommendations: Walter Benn Michaels - The Shape of the Signifier: 1967 to the End of History; Daniel Zamora and Michael Behrent, ed. - Foucault and Neoliberalism; Melinda Cooper - Family Values: Between Neoliberalism and the New Social Conservatism; Nancy Fraser - Fortunes of Feminism: From State-Managed Capitalism to Neoliberal Crisis; Janice Peck – Age of Oprah: Cultural Icon for the Neoliberal Era; Eve Bertram - The Workfare State: Public Assistance Politics from New Deal to New Democrats Nonsite.org - a peer-reviewed online journal of arts and humanities scholarship Ryan M. Will mediations and arbitrations ever go back to normal? It's a question that's been asked frequently over the last three years and the answer appears to be pretty evident – or is it? Though in-person meetings are still available to many litigants upon request, digital meetings have quickly become the go-to for judges, lawyers, mediators, and arbitrators. After all, digital is faster and easier and exactly the same as if you attended the meeting in person, right? Host Jack Russo asks Judge Ken Fields if face to face arbitration and mediation will officially become a thing of the past or if in-person meetings still have their place in litigation.
