The catholic world is grieving the loss of Pope Francis, but so is much of the Muslim one.Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Argentina, Pope Francis spent much of his life reaching out across religious lines, forming monumental friendships with Muslims, from refugee families to Islamic scholars to Palestinians. In his final Easter Sunday sermon just hours before his death, he called on the world to protect the sanctity of life in Gaza, and work towards a lasting ceasefire that saved Palestinian civilians and Israeli hostages. His voice echoed across all corners of the world, and in his death, his messages were reflected. The grand imam of Al Azhar Ahmad al Tayeb, described Pope Francis as a “true friend to Muslims, sincere in his pursuit of peace”.So how did he leave such a mark on such a divided world? This week on the Big Picture Podcast we speak with Georgetown University scholar, theologian and author Dr Jordan Denari Duffner.Dr Jordan is the author of ‘Finding Jesus Among Muslims' and the upcoming book ‘Pope Francis and Islam'.We'd love to hear your thoughts on this episode, and any guests you'd like us to have on our show.

(00:00 - 24:16) - What else is there to talk about when the show opens up? Jim Irsay made some comments last night regarding the Washington Commanders owner. Kevin and Query breakdown the comments made by both Irsay and Dan Snyder. How these comments will be perceived by people inside and outside the National Football League. Pacers season is getting underway at Gainbridge Fieldhouse today! They take on the Washington Wizards in their season opener. A recap of the Philadelphia Phillies victory over the San Diego Padres last night. Are people rooting for the New York Yankees over the Houston Astros? (24:17 - 28:36) - Morning Checkdown (28:37 - 43:13) - A detailed breakdown of the Irsay audio against Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder. Clips are played of the interview Irsay gave after yesterday's owner meeting where he originally spoke against Snyder. Irsay spoke out despite Snyder's alleged attempts to silence other owners. Jake has only one fear about Irsay's comments, being that the investigation is still ongoing and making comments may derail the investigation. Kevin reaffirms that Irsay is doing something that not enough people do in general, but especially for owners in the NFL. (43:14 - 1:11:34) - Stephen Holder of The Athletic and IndyStar calls into the program and gives his take on the Irsay situation. Query and Holder go back and forth about how Irsay is probably the owner people know most about in theNFL. This benefits Irsay's ability to speak against Snyder as there is likely nothing that could come out against him that most don't already know about. Kevin wonders how other owners will handle the Snyder controversy moving forward. Talk turns to the future of this Colts season. If Jonathan Taylor's injury lead to the Colts choosing to play the no-huddle offense last Sunday. Holder is excited for the Commanders vs. Colts matchup later this year. (1:11:35 - 1:24:41) - Are running quarterbacks really in that much danger in the NFL? Callers come on the show to talk Colts play calling. What is the commitment to Jonathan Taylor long term. More talk about if the Colts should continue withthe no-huddle offense long term. Not every quarterback can handle no-huddle offense, but Matt Ryan can. The Joe Montanna - John Candy Superbowl Story. (1:24:42 - 1:28:59) - Is Grover Stewart the best Colts runningback that you never see their jersey out in the wild. Is the ceiling lower or the floor higher for Colts linemen without Shaquille Leonard? (1:29:00 - 1:57:13) - Pacers television commentator Chris Denari comes on the program to hype up the season opener with the Washington Wizards later tonight. Denari stresses that the team needs to hit the ground running because this season will only get more complicated for the Pacers as the season goes on. He thinks that this season will give fans a lot of high moments to talk about seeing this young talented team surprise other teams in the NBA. Jalen Smith could be a big figure for the Pacers this year after choosing to remain with the team. Query wonders what player will benefit most from a year without expectation? Denari thinks a lot of the roster is going to benefit from a season without expectations as several members are 22 years old and just getting their first taste of NBA level play. (1:57:54 - 2:06:12) - Pop Quiz. (2:06:13 - 2:15:56) - Amazon is broadcasting a game on Black Friday. High-School statefinals still being held at Lucas Oil Stadium. Pacers fans need to step up. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rame-platform/message

Arson and vandalism at houses of worship. Bullying at schools and harassment at the grocery store. Political scapegoating and institutionalized discrimination. Muslims in the United States--and beyond--have faced Islamophobia in a range of forms. This ground-breaking book argues that Christians should be at the forefront of efforts to end the prejudice, discrimination, and violence, that Muslims face. Writing for Christians of all denominations, Jordan Denari Duffner offers an introduction to Islamophobia, discusses the unfortunate ways that Christians have contributed to it, and offers practical steps for standing in solidarity with Muslims. Viewing Islamophobia as both a social justice and a religious freedom issue, Duffner makes the case that Christian faith calls us to combat religious discrimination even when it is not directed toward our own faith community. She weaves together insights from Catholic social teaching, examples from Protestant leaders, and expertise from Muslim scholars and activists, resulting in a compelling book that will be of interest to academic and lay audiences alike.
