Welcome to Catch Up with ChiroTouch with Dr. Ronnie Simms, the educational and inspirational podcast series with chiropractic's most influential speakers. In this episode, we explore and celebrate women's role in chiropractic. Featuring guest Dr. Cathy Wendland, principle of Colby Family Chiropractic and League of Chiropractic Women board member, this conversation is centered on the important and expanding role women play as care providers in the predominately male-dominated chiropractic field. While only about 20% of employed chiropractors today are women (1), around 40% of chiropractic students, up from 22% a decade ago, are women (2). As the gender make up of practitioners shifts to more closely reflect that of their patients (about 60% of chiropractic patients are women (3)), there needs to an equal shift in the tools and support offered to women in the profession. Dr. Cathy discusses the physical and mental challenges women face as chiropractors and the support and resources available to help them thrive. 1. According to 2020 statistics from U.S. Department of Labor 2. According to 2020 statistics from Palmer College and the Illinois Chiropractic Society 3. Dr. Lindsay Banks is owner of Healthy Motives 365 located in Houston, Texas. The mission of Healthy Motives 365 is to help women transform their minds, restore their body and energize their soul so they can live their best life and fulfill their god-given purpose.    Dr. Lindsay works with clients to help them transition to a healthier lifestyle by making subtle changes daily or in other words, as she likes to say by “Finding Health in Everyday!”    Healthy Motives 365 was born because Dr. Lindsay recognizes from personal experience that women play many roles and at times put their own health on the back burner. She recognizes that women can become overwhelmed trying to do “All the things”  which can lead to burnout and not making the best decisions regarding lifestyle choices.  But if health suffers, everything else can essentially be at risk from caring for family to maintaining a career.    Her educational background includes a Doctorate of Chiropractic from Logan University in Chesterfield, Missouri (2008) and a Masters of Exercise Physiology from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville (2013). She is also a Certified Personal Trainer through American College of Sports Medicine (2009) and is currently pursuing her Functional Medicine Certification.  Dr. Lindsay is an advocate for giving back and serving organizations that align with her purpose. She currently serves on the American Black Chiropractic Association Board as the National Board Review Chair and is the Vice President of Chiropractic Women of color.    Dr. Lindsay has worked in higher education for over 10 years and currently serves as the Department Chair of Allied Health at San Jacinto College North Campus. She also provides Chiropractic care and healthy lifestyle coaching at her private practice Healthy Motives 365. In her free time, she enjoys working out, reading motivational books, nature and spending time with her husband  and two sons.

Dr. Maj interviews Dr. Evans about building her dream...Properly Fueled! BIO For two decades, Dr. Denise has been caring for her community in Bordentown, New Jersey at Evans Family Chiropractors. She is a 1991 graduate of Life University, and a 1987 graduate with a BS in Biology from The College of New Jersey. Utilizing a variety of techniques to suite each individual, she has extensive experience in caring for children, infant, and pregnant women. When she's not caring for patients in the office, she volunteers her time as the active Events Director for the League of Chiropractic Women. Her love of the profession also inspires her to participate in the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association,  International Chiropractic Association, and New Jersey Chiropractic Society. Dr. Denise approaches health from a holistic approach which is why she has always felt it necessary to stress the importance of diet and exercise to her patients as well. After practicing in the office for so long, Denise began to notice a huge void in healthy restaurant options in the area for her patients. All of the restaurants seemed the same—a lack of focus on nutrition and convenience. One night she awoke from a dream with a clear vision and a name. Dr. Denise is so excited to enter another business endeavor and finally bring this hip and healthy café concept offering quick take out options to life! Properly Fueled is anticipated to open in Spring of 2017 and will be located right next to Evans Family Chiropractors. Dr. Denise's ultimate vision is that by educating people about healthy lifestyle choices she can make a positive change in their lives. She believes there is no greater gift than being able to assist someone in reaching their full health potential, and no joy quite like feeling healthy. Whether someone's goal is pain relief or improved mental or physical health, she aims to make their goals her goals. Turn on the cells of your brain, turn on the ability to use fat for fuel and unlock massive energy and focus by quickly getting your body into ketosis!  To try a 5 Day Keto OS Experience Pack, go to drmaj.com/keto5day. Dr Gorman has been In practice and managing successful high volume practices, running two to four simultaneously, since 1985. She’s personally trained over 50 doctors over the years to work in and run her practices. She created Focus Philosophy Weekends in 1990 and has held hundreds of events over the years. She is the recipient of numerous awards including: New Beginnings Philosophy of Chiropractic Award in 1998, Life Force 1000 Chiropractor of the Year in 2015, and Distinguished Fellow of the International Chiropractors Association in 2015. She is the co-founder of the League of Chiropractic Women (LCW) and has served as its  first president from 2012 until 2016. Show Notes Back to the beginning: Dr. Gorman became a chiropractor because she is a chiropractic “miracle” After graduation: worked for Dr. Sigafoose and learned how to be successful. After starting her own practice, it took her only 3 months to see 100 patients per day! “If you’re on fire, they will come and watch you burn.” 4 offices in 4 years, buying and selling practices. Having associates: believe in them more than they believe in themselves. They have to be coachable. Barriers to success: people have trouble seeing themselves successful. Everyone needs a “life line” or support system. Be around successful people. Creating a special and different patient experience in the office. Always try to exceed the expectations. Train the staff on procedures, team building, no negative energy. Marketing: screenings, lunch n learns Establish the need for chiropractic when at screenings and making the appointment is key. Look at what you do well, and delegate the rest. Women need to mentor women, we are not well represented. Women are better to listening to their innate wisdom, following intuition. For new docs: associate yourself with other successful people in chiropractic. Don’t let anything hold you back. Get constant connection through seminars or coaching. For seasoned docs: People get “bored out” of practice. Keep it fresh by learning new things. Lesson learned: you need the ability to get up and move forward after falling down. Heroes: Dr. Jim Sigafoose, Reggie Gold, and many more. Different things to learn from different people. Daily rituals: Half hour of silence. Favorite Books: The Green Books, The Bigness of the Fellow Within, Abundance for Chiropractors By Sigafoose, The Purpose is Profit by Skip Mclaughlin. Best business advice: Save money, be independent, give back. League of Chiropractic Women: lcwomen.com Life University Chiropractic Mentoring drsharongorman@yahoo.com Like what you hear? Subscribe!
