Do not be afraid to ask or enquirer of God. Many believe the false notion that it is not permissible to ask God. A true misconception. An example we find first in I Samuel 23:4…and David enquirer of the Lord, God…as well as nine other times documented in scripture that David enquired of God. It's okay to ask. Remember, ye have not because ye ask not. Christ teaches as well as Paul writes in his letters. Failing to ask God means you don't get the information necessary to fulfill His desires for us and others. Please don't go it on your own. Be in communication with our Heavenly Father and wait on the Lord as we are told to do. Most importantly; as we are reminded in the scriptures in Psalm 37{read entirely}, 37:7 Rest IN the Lord and wait PATIENTLY for Him….

In this episode of the Discomfort Practice, I talk with political scientist and economist Pilar Garrido. We chat about her experience leading a sustainable economic development policy in Costa Rica for a green and inclusive economy, as well as designing innovative financial instruments for critical public investment projects. We will also get into what adaptation for climate change is. Pilar leads with a human touch, transforming our ideas of what a leader should be. Pilar has been a key figure, using her government minister role to steer Costa Rica's ambition to be one of the five countries piloting the Sustainable Development Goals. SDG's were launched by the United Nations in 2015. Their aim is to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030: all people enjoy peace and prosperity. So, buckle yourself in for this episode and be inspired by a politician who governs with both heart and strength. She has served as Chief of Staff, Deputy Minister, Minister of Planning and Policy, Technical Secretary of the Sustainable Development Goals in Costa Rica and as Costa Rica's co-ordinator of the Economic cabinet. A woman of many talents! This is an inspiring episode, so tune in for Pilar's positive story and so much more. Enjoy! Key Points Discussed: The discomfort Pilar experienced whilst becoming a politician and minister at a young age, especially during the Pandemic, as she describes as being like on the front line (5:20) Choosing to work from a place of love (08:20) Making difficult choices and creating policies to protect people during the Pandemic (12:20) Pilar's journey from political scientist to advisor to politician (14:50) Costa Rica's initiatives to put humanity and sustainability first, before economics (23:40) How to have a big impact in politics: where your job is not forever (27:00) Part of Pilar's legacy: diversifying an economy that has previously heavily relied just on tourism, so that it is healthy and robust (31:00) The IDG framework (that Costa Rica are one of the first countries to pilot), which aims towards eradicating hunger, poverty, sustainability and ensuring human rights. The IDG's (Inner Development Goals) consists of five dimensions: Being (relationship to self); Thinking (using your brain); Relating (and caring about others in the world); Collaborating (social skills and society) and Acting (driving change) (36:40) How everyone can do something small, that will collectively make a big impact (46:00) Pilar's optimism for the future (51:10) Connect with Betsy: Betsy on Instagram Betsy on Twitter Betsy on Linkedin Rate, Review, Learn and Share Thanks for tuning into The Discomfort Practice. Welcome to the Powerful Leaders, No Apologies podcast. In this quick introduction to the show, we'll let you know who we are, what we'll be discussing on the show, and why you should tune in.
Powerful Leaders? is a book that exposes and explores how leaders are tempted away from a biblical model of leadership into illegitimate - and in the worst cases abusive - use of authority and power. It's written by Marcus Honeysett, the director of Living Leadership, a charity that focuses on healthy leadership and church culture. In this conversation with Andy Peck, Marcus explains how leaders can safeguard themselves against moral failure. The Profile is brought to you by Premier Christianity magazine. Joe Biden and Xi Jinping met in person for the first time. Biden described their three-hour conversation as "open," "candid," and "blunt," saying he made it clear he wants to stop a slide toward a cold war. Plus: We're still counting votes, with control of the House still undecided. But Democrats keep the Senate, which is a giant midterm win for the president. And: Is Donald Trump about to pour salt in open Republican wounds? He has a big announcement tomorrow even as more and more Republicans say Trump is to blame and this time they really, really mean it when they say the GOP must move on. This week we welcome Dale Jenkins, Author of DIPLOMATS AND ADMIRALS: From Failed Negotiations and Tragic Misjudgments to Powerful Leaders and Historic Deeds, the Untold Story of the U.S. Navy's Victories at Coral sea and Midway. Diplomats and Admirals argues that the war in the Pacific was the result of internal divisions in both the United States and Japan, and possible duplicity within the Roosevelt administration. After continued Japanese expansion in the Pacific in 1941 and the total oil embargo imposed by Dean Acheson, the threat of war escalated. Japanese Prime Minister Konoe realized war with the United States would be disastrous for Japan. He made strenuous attempts to arrange a summit meeting with President Roosevelt but was continually rebuffed by Secretary of State Cordell Hull and his pro-China advisors Stanley Hornbeck and Alger Hiss. Roosevelt's War Council, oblivious to the power of the Japanese Navy, believed the oil embargo would force Japan to withdraw from southern Indo-China. An agreement with Japan was within reach at the end of November 1941, but Chiang Kai-Shek and Madame Chiang exerted powerful lobbying pressure to prevent an agreement – they wanted the United States in the war to aid China. In response, Hull delivered a demanding diplomatic note, known forever as the Hull Note of November 26, which the Japanese viewed as an ultimatum. The result was Pearl Harbor. Diplomats and Admirals' penetrating historical descriptions and insights before and during WWII and across continents and oceans, culminates at the Battle of Midway, where U.S. Navy carrier pilots snatched victory from defeat in the last possible moments– a decisive victory that stopped further Japanese expansion and turned the momentum of the Pacific War from Japan to the United States. We discuss the parallels between that time, and our current geo-political climate, specifically Russia and China. Dale analyzes why if we do not learn from history we are doomed to repeat it. The greatest generation is front and center in this week's interview. For more information about Dale Jenkins and his book Diplomats and Admirals go to https://daleajenkins.comPlease join our efforts in raising money to provide multi-cancer screening for at risk veterans. There's a balance in leadership success between being nimble and controlling the right kind of controllables. Karen Mangia is that leader who has found personal and professional success because she decided to prioritize — and control — what that looks like on a daily basis for her. You'll hear in this interview how Karen was letting other people's definitions of contribution, meaning, and boundaries drive her. And it wrecked her body, mind, and spirit. Lucky for us she found her way out and even used the pandemic as her reset time. She has changed her relationship with her career and invites you to do the same. Our episode brought tears to my eyes and I hope it touches you in a similar way with these lessons: Saboteurs will hold you back if you keep listening to them. Success doesn't mean more, more, more. Commitment to success can be toxic. Blending in to fit in will cause you to lose yourself. It's not other people's responsibility to meet your needs. Do you have an addiction to activity? Do you know your body's warning signals when it's time to slow down? The difference between dopamine happiness and joy Set priorities to do your best work and communicate to those you work with. Divest before you invest. You always have choices. Why you need to stop asking others for approval Busy is a belief You only need 10 minutes a day to define success for yourself. About Karen Mangia Karen Mangia is a WSJ Best Selling Author and one of the most sought after thought leaders in the world, sharing her thought leadership with over 15,000 organizations during the course of her career. She is the author of four books: Success from Anywhere: Create Your Own Future of Work From the Inside Out (Wiley), Working from Home: Making the New Normal Work for You (Wiley), Listen Up! How to Tune in to Customers and Turn Down the Noise (Wiley) and also Success With Less (Marie Street Press). A prolific blogger and sought-after media interview, she has been featured in Forbes and regularly contributes to Thrive Global, Authority Magazine and ZDNet. Thinkers 360 named her as #9 on their List of Global Thought Leaders and Influencers on Health & Wellness, #12 for Mental Health and one of the top 150 B2B Thought Leaders to Follow. As Vice President of Customer and Market Insights at Salesforce, she engages current and future customers around the world to discover new ways of creating success and growth together. She leads the company's Work from Home Taskforce and is shaping the strategy for the workplace of the future globally. Passionate about diversity and inclusion, she also serves on the company's Racial Equality and Justice Taskforce. Prior to Salesforce, she spearheaded Customer Experience at Cisco Systems. Lead Kick Ass Meetings: Complimentary Resource Meetings are a really expensive use of your time. It only makes sense that they need to be more productive and valuable. Instead of running meetings that could have been an email, lead powerful meetings that have purpose, participation, and problem solving.
In recent years, several high profile leadership scandals have rocked the evangelical world. In these cases it became clear that there were blatant abuses in one or more of the three classic leadership temptations: money, sex and power. Perhaps the most subtle of these temptations surrounds the use of power. Without power, leaders can do nothing, but power can be destructive when misused, even when a leader has no intention to harm others. This seminar will identify signs and stages of misuse of power and propose practical measures to minimise the potential of mishandling it or abusing others. Based in Lisburn with wife, Gar-Ling, and two teenaged children, Paul Coulter is a medic, pastor, author and theologian. Supporting leaders in Living Leadership and doing apologetics the Centre for Christianity in Society, he loves walking and history.

Julie HruskaWhere You Can Contact Julie Hruska – julie@powerfulleaders.com, or thru her website powerfulleaders.com. About the Guest. Powerful Leaders was created in 2020 by Julie Hruska, Certified High Performance Coach. In 2010, Julie had an awakening. She realized she'd been sleepwalking through her life, following a path that was not her own. From that moment on, Julie began to recreate her life. In 2013, her challenging journey led her to hot power yoga, where she found empowerment and inspiration. Feeling compelled to share her love for yoga with others, Julie completed her RYT 200 hour training in 2015 and her RYT 300 training in 2016. In 2016, Julie also left her salaried position as an educator to teach yoga full time; yet quickly realized yoga was merely a bandage for people's root challenges. Julie became a Certified High Performance Coach to help people deal with the underlying issues that prevent them from becoming the best versions of themselves. Powerful Leaders exists to help awaken, empower and inspire people to become the best versions of themselves! Julie specializes in guiding people to create a life they love by developing high performance habits in the areas of career, relationships, emotions and health. Julie received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Iowa and her Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix in 2011. TOTD: This is the true joy in life, being used for a purpose, recognized by yourself as a mighty one. Being a force of nature. Not a feverish, selfish, little cloud of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as I live it, is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die. For the harder I work, the more I love. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me it is a sort of splendid torch which I've got a hold of for the moment and I want to make it burn as bright as possible before handing it over to future generations. — George Bernard Shaw Thanks for listening and enjoy the show.

As more and more businesses move online, you might start feeling the pressure to "stand out" in order to get noticed. But how do you stand out when so many other people are selling products and services that are so similar to yours? What if you're new to business, and you just can't compete with the big dogs? Today's guest is Julie Hruska. Julie is the CEO of Powerful Leaders and a Certified High-Performance Coach with a MAEd. and RYT500. In 2010, Julie had an awakening. She realized she'd been sleepwalking through her life, following a path that was not her own. From that moment on, Julie began to recreate her life. In 2013, her challenging journey led her to hot power yoga, where she found empowerment and inspiration. Feeling compelled to share her love for yoga with others, Julie completed her RYT 200-hour training in 2015 and her RYT 300 training in 2016. In 2016, Julie also left her salaried position as an educator to teach yoga full time; yet quickly realized yoga was merely a bandage for people's root challenges. Julie became a Certified High-Performance Coach to help people deal with the underlying issues that prevent them from becoming the best versions of themselves. Powerful Leaders exist to help awaken, empower, and inspire people to become the best versions of themselves. Julie specializes in guiding people to create a life they love by developing high-performance habits in the areas of career, relationships, emotions and health. Deeply touched by the wealth of wisdom and clarity it brings, she offers this work in her teacher trainings, as well as in weekend workshops, retreats, and individual private as well as small group sessions. As a long-time wellness educator, Tanya uses this experience to help deepen students' knowledge of the traditional practices of healing and wholeness. Annually, she offers intensives and retreats to Thailand, India, Costa Rica, and other areas in the world with rich healing traditions to go deeper and study with masters. With travel as a passion, you will often find her chanting with Buddhist monks, cooking a curry with her son, or discovering a long lost healing technique when abroad. What's Covered in this Episode In this conversation, Tanya and I talk about… How she stumbled into yoga as a way to heal. How she transitioned from the West Coast dot-com world of the 1990's to being laid off, and now running a thriving school. the moment she knew she would teach yoga for the rest of her life, and how everything we experience brings us to “this point”. Doing what you love, staying fascinated and deepening your knowledge. Being willing to be helped, and mentoring others so they can be skillful. Tanya also shares why it's so important to her to be in selfless service — being full enough inside so that she can give to others without any loss. Joyfully showing up and offering compassion, or kindness, or assistance, and the joys of seeing a person's burdens lifted. And we touch on intuition and getting closer to the soul. Tanya weaves a lot of travel into her life and though she lives in Minnesota, we chatted while she was abroad in London, which was pretty fun. Enjoy! There is an incredible surge of women enrollment across the board in chiropractic colleges. In fact, some chiropractic institutions are tipping past the 50% enrollment being female. The LCW supports women with resources to become chiropractic leaders and to take our chiropractic way of life to all areas of our lives. This episode is unique in that Dr. Colby was interviewing me for the LCW so we decided that when she was interviewing me we would let this episode be a turn around for the Mile High podcast where we use it as one of our episodes of myself being interviewed on our own podcast. If you enjoy this episode please share it with others and subscribe to the Mile High podcast on iTunes. In this episode, I get asked some very important questions, including the Mile High Speaker Audition, the process on how I select the speakers for Mile High and much more. Mile-High has always been intentional that women are well represented within the presenter list at the event. From the moment we start planning, we always make sure that our CE speakers are for example 50% women, and we do the same with our panels and many of the other speaking slots with a goal of having a very diverse presentation. All from practitioners who are focused on keeping the main thing, the chiropractic adjustment and subluxation the center of chiropractic.
