What if hope isn't something you find, but something you remember?Dr. Parastoo Rezai has spent her career in science and healthcare, but her passion for storytelling led her to write Remembering Hope, a novel inspired by a true story of illness, resilience, family, and transformation. In this conversation, she shares her journey from immigrating to the United States from Iran as a child to building a life rooted in service, gratitude, and giving back to others.Amy and Dr. Parastoo Rezai explores the immigrant experience, preserving cultural identity, raising children with a deep appreciation for both heritage and opportunity, and the inspiration behind her novel. They discuss how hardship can become a catalyst for growth, why community matters during life's most difficult seasons, and the power of sharing our stories openly. This episode is a reminder that hope often lives within us long before we realize it, and that some of life's greatest abundance comes from helping others find theirs.Connect with Dr. Parastoo Rezai:Website: parastoorezai.comBook: Remembering Hope (Available in English, Farsi, and audiobook formats.)Connect with Amy Sylvis:https://www.linkedin.com/in/amysylvis/Contact Us:https://www.sylviscapital.comhttps://www.sylviscapital.com/webinarinfo@sylviscapital.com00:00 – Getting to Know Dr. Parastoo Rezai04:40 – What Inspired Her to Write Remembering Hope?08:21 – Preserving Culture While Building a New Life12:14 – Why Giving Back Creates a Sense of Completion14:10 – Is Abundance About What We Receive or What We Give?16:32 – The Story Behind Remembering Hope20:06 – Bringing Hope to Readers Across Cultures22:12 – The Longing to Return Home24:56 – Will There Be Another Book?26:34 – Why You Shouldn't Suffer in Silence

Did you know after menopause, many women lose around 1% to 2% of bone density per year for several years, and some lose more? And it accelerates during the menopause transition, with the fastest loss typically beginning around a year before that final menstrual period.   Most women don't find out until they already have an osteopenia or osteoporosis diagnosis.. Or maybe you've been told your bones are just "a little low" but nobody actually explained what to do about it? We cover: Why walking and calcium supplements alone are not enough, and what actually moves the needle on bone density The difference between bone density and bone quality, and why your DEXA scan is only telling part of the story The specific types of exercise that stimulate bone formation at the hip and spine, and which popular ones don't do what you think How menopausal hormone therapy fits into the bone health picture, and can you improve bone health without HRT? What women with osteoporosis, joint pain, or a hip replacement can still safely do to build stronger bones Jocelyn Wittstein is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Duke University Medical School.  Dr. Wittstein's research includes disorders of the shoulder, knee, and elbow, rotator cuff repair outcomes, biceps tendon disorders, patellofemoral instability, ACL injury including mechanism of injury and post traumatic arthritis, and meniscus healing. Most men think erectile dysfunction is a bedroom problem. It's actually one of the earliest warning signs of cardiovascular disease, capable of showing up three to five years before a heart attack. In this episode, Dr. Gabrielle Lyon sits down with Dr. Amy Pearlman, a urologist trained in men's sexual health, to discuss:Why ED is a symptom of vascular health, not a standalone disease and how the artery feeding the heart is roughly double the size of the one feeding the penis, so problems show up "down there" firstWhy "normal" testosterone can be meaningless, and the questions to ask before accepting a lab result that didn't flagHow daily erections preserve penile tissue the way water keeps a sponge supple and why disuse can cost noticeable size over just a few monthsThat cardiovascular exercise can rival ED medication for improving erectile function, making your heart health the real fixHow to track erectile fitness before there's a problem, instead of waiting until something breaksBy the end, you'll understand the single signal your body uses to flag heart and metabolic risk early and the simple, mostly drug-free steps that protect both your cardiovascular health and your sexual function for life.Thank you to our sponsors:Manukora - Go to https://bit.ly/3RCMrKx to save 31% plus $25 worth of free gifts.Timeline - Get 20% off your Mitopure order at https://bit.ly/4dW6BGNBon Charge - Save 15% at https://bit.ly/433Xi2B with code DRLYONExplore More from Dr. Gabrielle LyonPremium Podcast Subscription: Ad-free episodes, key takeaway summaries, exclusive Q&A, and behind-the-scenes content https://foreverstrong.supercast.comWeekly newsletter: Recipes, podcast updates, and practical weekly insights https://drgabriellelyon.com/sign-up/Apply to become a patient: Personalized care with Dr. Lyon's clinical team https://drgabriellelyon.com/new-patient-inquiry/Listen to "Pearls of Wisdom" on all your favorite platforms!Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4uOhWn5DeVXO7D2ppa0RoVApple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/pearls-of-wisdom/id1617916659Find Dr. Amy Pearlman at:Website: https://www.primeinstitute.us/YouTube: https://youtube.com/@docamyurology?si=oJ2LZ_sxMPYTaK41Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/amypearlmanmd/X: https://x.com/AmyPearlman1LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/amy-pearlman-54a2b0208Connect with Dr. Gabrielle Lyon:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drgabriellelyon/TikTok: @drgabriellelyonX (Twitter): https://x.com/drgabriellelyonFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/doctorgabriellelyonTimestamps00:00 - Introduction01:25 - Erections predict cardiac events01:41 - The pen and artery analogy03:40 - No health milestones for men07:52 - Normal structure and function11:45 - The five S's of men's health21:24 - Why "normal" testosterone misleads25:00 - Testosterone and fertility risk31:05 - Steroids versus FDA-approved agents41:13 - The untreated 25-year-old43:56 - Sperm health and home testing52:02 - Peyronie's disease and injury1:01:34 - Protein, nutrition, supplements1:05:09 - Daily Cialis as a pre-workout1:13:32 - The sponge analogy1:15:31 - Erectile fitness tracking1:23:05 - The penis pump, used right1:27:24 - Restoring lost size1:35:00 - Traction and girth enhancement1:46:00 - Women's anatomy and pleasureIf you found this episode valuable, share it with someone who would benefit from it.Disclaimers: This episode includes paid sponsorships. The Dr. Gabrielle Lyon Podcast and YouTube are for general information purposes only and do not constitute the practice of medicine, nursing, or other professional health care services, including the giving of medical advice, and no doctor/patient relationship is formed. What does it really mean when your adult child isn't "launching" on your timeline? In this episode of the Where Parents Talk podcast, host Lianne Castelino sits down with Dr. Jeffrey Jensen Arnett — developmental psychologist, Clark University senior research scholar, and the man who coined the term "emerging adulthood" — to unpack one of the most misunderstood life stages of our time.Dr. Arnett explains why the years from 18 to 29 are a distinct developmental stage, not extended adolescence or young adulthood, and why parents who understand this are better equipped to support their children without pushing them away. He covers why kids are moving back home, launching later, and taking longer to commit to careers, relationships, and adult milestones — and why that's not necessarily a failure.Topics include: how the knowledge economy, the women's movement, and the sexual revolution reshaped the path to adulthood; how to tell the difference between healthy self-exploration and being truly stuck; how to keep communication open without overstepping; and what emerging adults wish their parents understood but rarely say out loud.Whether your child is 18 or 28, this conversation will reshape how you see — and support — their journey.Takeaways:Emerging adulthood, from ages 18 to 29, is a distinct life stage where exploration prevails over commitment, crucial for personal development.Today's parents often misalign expectations with emerging adults regarding life choices, leading to communication gaps and misunderstandings. The shift from adolescence to adulthood is marked by increased independence, yet many emerging adults still seek guidance without wanting to be controlled.Emotional health during emerging adulthood can fluctuate; parents should strive for open communication to support their children through challenging times.Social media and device usage significantly impact the mental health of emerging adults, creating both opportunities and challenges for connection.Understanding that adulthood is not a fixed age but a process allows parents to better support their children in navigating this complex life stage.Links referenced in this episode:whereparents talk.comCompanies mentioned in this episode:Clark UniversityAmerican Psychology AssociationSociety for the Study of Emerging AdulthoodThis podcast is for parents, guardians, teachers and caregivers to learn proven strategies and trusted tips on raising kids, teens and young adults based on science, evidenced and lived experience. You'll learn the latest on topics like managing bullying, consent, fostering healthy relationships, and the interconnectedness of mental, emotional and physical health.

Can cannabis use during the teen years slow your child's cognitive development — even before you notice the signs? In this episode of the Where Parents Talk podcast, host Lianne Castelino speaks to neuroscientist and cannabis researcher Dr. Krista Lisdahl, Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, who breaks down the findings of the largest long-term study of brain development in U.S. youth ever conducted.Dr. Lisdahl explains what the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study — tracking over 11,000 young people from ages 9 to 19 — reveals about cannabis, THC, and the developing teen brain. She discusses why adolescence is such a critical window for cognitive growth, what "blunted" development actually looks like in your teen's daily life, and how high-potency products like vaping oils and edibles raise the stakes.Parents will learn: what the warning signs of early cannabis use look like at home and school, how to have an honest, effective conversation with your teen about marijuana, when to seek professional help, what the difference between THC and CBD really means for your family, and why delaying cannabis use until at least age 17 matters more than you might think.Practical, science-backed, and reassuringly honest — this is essential listening for any parent of a tween, teen, or young adult.Takeaways:Understanding the effects of hormonal changes on adolescent mental health is crucial for parents.Communication around device usage is essential in fostering independence and discipline in teens. The impact of social media on bullying and consent in relationships cannot be overlooked.Research shows that cannabis use can negatively affect cognitive development in teenagers.Emotional health during adolescence can be affected by peer pressure and the need for acceptance.Maintaining open dialogue about physical health and substance use can empower teens to make informed choices.Links referenced in this episode:whereparentstalk.comCompanies mentioned in this episode:University of WisconsinUVMNeuropsychopharmacologyAdolescent Brain Cognitive Development StudyCBDEpidiolexThis podcast is for parents, guardians, teachers and caregivers to learn proven strategies and trusted tips on raising kids, teens and young adults based on science, evidenced and lived experience. You'll learn the latest on topics like managing bullying, consent, fostering healthy relationships, and the interconnectedness of mental, emotional and physical health.Links referenced in this episode:• • whereparentstalk.com

Join her free health & longevity newsletter here: https://www.drvondawright.com/resources/aging-longevity Today I want to talk with you about how women age, and why so many of us feel surprised by what happens to our bodies in midlife.   This is not an episode about chasing youth or fearing wrinkles. It is about understanding why women are not taught how longevity really works in our bodies, and why the years leading up to menopause matter far more than we were ever told. I have learned, through decades of caring for women as an orthopedic sports surgeon, that we are not simply smaller versions of men. Our biology has often been overlooked in longevity research, even though estrogen quietly influences nearly every system that determines how strong, mobile, and independent we remain as we age. I want you to know this. Aging is not something that happens to you. It is something you can shape. With the right information, a few consistent habits, and a deeper understanding of your own body, you can build strength and resilience that carry you forward for decades.   If you have ever felt like your body changed without warning, like the advice that once worked no longer does, or like aging has been framed as something to fear, this episode is for you. My hope is that this conversation leaves you feeling informed, supported, and empowered to age with strength, clarity, and confidence.   Timestamps (will update once final draft is available) 00:00 Introduction to Female Longevity 02:06 The Unique Aging Process of Women 03:19 Critical Data Points on Female Longevity 07:08 10 Essential Principles of Female Longevity 07:56 The Critical Decade: 35-45 09:27 The Role of Estrogen in Longevity 11:27 Body Composition Changes in Midlife 12:45 Mitochondria and Female Energy 13:49 Muscle Strength and Longevity 14:55 Cardiovascular Fitness and Lifespan 15:36 Brain Health and Estrogen 16:37 Inflammation and Aging 17:56 Modifying Biological Age 19:42 Conclusion: Designing an Unbreakable Future

What if the reason your lifts, runs, or rotational power feel off has nothing to do with motivation—and everything to do with pelvic floor coordination?Michelle MacDonald sits down with pelvic health and performance specialist Rachel Selman for a conversation that bridges the gap between rehab and real athletic training. Together, they explore how the pelvic floor functions in loaded movement, why Kegels alone are not enough, and how women…especially midlife female athletes, can progress from foundational control to strength, rotation, deceleration, and power. Rachel breaks down the role of breath, pressure, thoracic rotation, hip internal rotation, and movement coordination in a way that is practical, evidence-based, and immediately useful. Continuing their illuminating conversation, Lisa Bilyeu and Dr. Andrew Huberman return in Part 2 to unravel even more of the mysteries behind male behavior, relationships, and the neuroscience that underpins it all. Picking up where Part 1 left off, this episode transitions into the hot-button topics of jealousy, male self-worth, and the unique pressures that men face today. Andrew breaks down the pitfalls of toxic jealousy, the motivation behind “more money, more muscle” mindsets, and why so many men struggle with overwhelm and self-destructive coping strategies—including the often-taboo subject of porn. The duo also tackles emotionally charged terrain like shame, vulnerability, and why crying means something so different for men than it does for women. Through honest stories and raw admissions, Andrew shares what helps men build resilience, manage emotional pain, and ultimately open up to healing in partnership. Lisa and Andrew don't shy away from the cultural shifts facing both men and women, unpacking the future of relationships, marriage, and what it takes to foster genuine intimacy. If you want the real story on male mental health, the role of partnership as a catalyst for growth, and practical advice for creating safer, more compassionate connections—this part is a must-listen. This is a Fan Fav episode. How many times have you come across influencers and ads on social media promoting intermittent fasting for weight loss, increasing energy and feeling great? The issue for us as women is that we get half the story, none of the results we're really after and rarely does it turn into anything we can sustain over time. You're left feeling frustrated, anxious, still overweight and bloated, and more like your energy has taken a nosedive. The Fasting MD is on set this time with Lisa, Dr. Amy Shah, and the way she simplifies fasting for women that works in alignment with our cravings, our hormones and monthly cycles is seriously a Game Changer! Dr. Amy Shah is a double-board certified medical doctor specializing in food allergies, hormones and gut health. Her book, I'm So Effing Tired, is more like a groundbreaking blueprint for women to take control of their health like never before. In this episode Dr. Shah is laying out the foundational things we need to understand as women about our menstrual cycles and how to fast effectively to maximize your energy levels, your quality of sleep, and your hormones. Today is about how we stop fighting our biology, give ourselves grace, and learn to customize your approach to fasting, and why you'll want to start fasting, like today (or at least tomorrow). Key Pointers from Dr. Shah: 3-5 days Before Your Cycle: Avoid fasting, exercise, and big decisions - Eat high fiber, low glycemic foods. Focus on self care.
