This week, I sat down with Dr. Christy Flick, founder of Atlas Chiropractic in Waco. Her story started with a deeply personal mission—finding answers for her son's health struggles when traditional medicine fell short. That search led her into the world of chiropractic care and ultimately to opening Waco's only Upper Cervical practice. We talked about the powerful connection between the brain, nervous system, and overall health—and how so many people are walking around with symptoms that are actually rooted in their nervous system, not just their spine. Dr. Flick also shared how her move to Waco turned into something much bigger than expected, and why she's so committed to educating her patients beyond the basics of back pain. If you're curious about how chiropractic care can impact your energy, clarity, and long-term wellness, this episode is worth a listen. Connect with Dr. Christy Flick & Atlas Chiropractic:

In this episode, Dr. John Stenberg discusses a study on the effects of upper cervical manipulation on standing postural control and cervical mobility in chronic, non-specific neck pain. The study found that a single upper cervical manipulation resulted in immediate improvement in cervical range of motion, which was maintained throughout the study period. However, significant changes in postural control parameters were observed later in the study. T he host emphasizes the clinical relevance of these findings for upper cervical chiropractors and suggests incorporating assessment methods such as the cervical flexion rotation test and force plates. The importance of stratifying patients for predictable outcomes and educating patients about the long-term benefits of upper cervical care is also highlighted. Takeaways A single upper cervical manipulation can lead to immediate improvement in cervical range of motion in patients with chronic, non-specific neck pain. Significant changes in postural control parameters may take time to manifest after the manipulation. Assessment methods such as the cervical flexion rotation test and force plates can be useful in tracking progress and evaluating the effectiveness of upper cervical care. The very special guest on this episode of The Mile High Podcast is Dr. Jane Brewer. There are more and more home-grown heroes in the Mile High State, and it's incredible how Colorado has become a hub for Chiropractic and chiropractors dedicated to the principles. Dr. Jane is one of those. As a mountain biker and skier, Dr. Jane first got into chiropractic to address her persistent hip and back pain. As her body began to heal from the physical injuries she began to notice that other health issues dissipated as well. She no longer suffered from chronic respiratory issues that had plagued her for her entire life. Once she understood the science and philosophy of chiropractic care, it became the obvious choice for her life's work. She returned to school, 11 years after obtaining her undergraduate degree in Art, to get her Doctor of Chiropractic degree. She graduated from Life University in Atlanta. While learning traditional chiropractic techniques in school, she gravitated toward Upper Cervical Chiropractic. Dr. Jane is among an elite group of fewer than 100 chiropractors in the world who holds this distinction of the highest level of training and specialization in Upper Cervical Chiropractic. She was the valedictorian of her graduating class. When she's not in the office and doesn't have her head in a research journal, she loves playing outside on her mountain bike, skis, or on her own two feet with her husband, Wes. There was no script, no talking points. What you hear is our live action recap/brain dump of the day. Stay tuned for these episodes each month as we continue throughout the Diplomate in Chiropractic Craniocervical Junction Procedures program over the next 3 years. This is the FIRST and ONLY behind the scenes look at how the doctors grow through this process. Takeaways The Diplomate Program is a higher level of study and specialization in chiropractic, demonstrating advanced knowledge and proficiency in a specific topic. Cognitive dissonance is the discomfort experienced when confronted with conflicting ideas, and it is important to approach it with an open mind and allow for further exploration and understanding. The practical application of chiropractic knowledge should focus on improving patients' health and function, rather than solely on structural alignment. The upper cervical community can benefit from further development in the areas of science, art, and philosophy to enhance clinical outcomes and understanding. The philosophy of chiropractic is stable but may require advancements based on new scientific discoveries. Advancements in science have significantly grown in the field of chiropractic over the years. Challenges exist in improving techniques due to the influence of personal experiences and the resistance to change. The fallacy of mastery assumes that one's current approach is correct, even if it may be incorrect. Openness to change and willingness to adapt techniques based on compelling scientific evidence is essential for progress. Learning from others and engaging in conversations with peers can lead to personal growth and new perspectives. Documenting thoughts and experiences allows for reflection and continuous improvement in chiropractic practice.
