Panelists: Zach Hoyt, Megan Hall and ME! (James Springer) as we take Old West and Sci Fi! Originally the name given to soldiers who fought against the Alliance in the Unification War, the term Browncoat is now used to describe Firefly fans around the world. The Arizona Browncoats host events, often called shindigs, that are typically family-friendly occasions where fans of the show and like-minded folk get together to socialize with one another. We also hold fundraising events, attend conventions, and participate in other shiny gatherings. Come check out one of our shindigs in Phoenix or Tucson or join us at an upcoming event! On this episode of Now that's Significant, a Market Research Podcast host Horst Feldhaeuser, Group Services Director at Infotools, is joined by Michelle Andre, Managing Director, and Jessica Sage, Marketing & Events Director, at Women in Research - commonly referred to as WIRe. Michelle and Jessica were both happy to come onto the podcast to talk about WIRe, its 18-year history, what it's known for, what it's not, and that WIRe are FINALLY launching a city event chapter in Auckland! Horst also reflects on his time as a WIRe mentor, which prompts a good discussion on the role of mentorship as well as how much of a need there are for senior mentors in the market research sector to help guide those who have recently joined the sector. We hope you enjoy the episode. *** Infotools Harmoni is a fit-for-purpose market research analysis, visualization, and reporting platform that gives the world's leading brands the tools they need to better understand their consumers, customers, organization, and market. Our powerful cloud-based platform, Harmoni, is purpose-built for market research. From data processing to investigation, dashboards to collaboration, Harmoni is a true "data-to-decision-making" solution for in-house corporate insights teams and agencies. While we don't facilitate market research surveys, we make it easy for to find and share compelling insights that go over-and-above what stakeholders want, inspiring them to act decisively. One of the most powerful features of Harmoni is Discover is a time-tested, time-saving, and investigative approach to data analysis. Using automated analyses to reveal patterns and trends, Discover minimizes potential research bias by removing the need for requesting and manually analyzing scores of cumbersome crosstabs – often seeing what you can't. Discover helps you easily find what differentiates groups that matter to you, uncover what makes them unique, and deliver data points that are interesting, relevant, and statistically significant, plus see things others can't. Add to all this an impending GenAI feature, and you have an extremely powerful, future-proofed tool.

Learning about Specialty Coffee can be daunting for anyone, regardless of being in coffee for 1 year or 10 years. Grant Gamble and Suneal Pabari created Leaderboard: The Coffee Game to help make learning about coffee fun for everyone, educational, and a unique way to think about how you learn about coffee. This week's conversation gives us a peek into the thought process of creating educational experiences and how you can help develop a better palate. Grant is an ad school dropout turned coffee professional, typically working behind the scenes on too many projects at once. In addition to Leaderboard, Grant is the founder of Culture Coffee Project, Creative Director for the World AeroPress Championship, Events Director for the NA division of Allegra Events and the Director of Marketing for the Montreal-based symposium ECCM. Despite having been in the industry since '05, Grant is still learning everyday (though he's pretty confident he'd score at least 86 points in Leaderboard). Suneal is obsessed with making fun coffee experiences and pushing the boundaries of the coffee industry. Back in 2014 he co-founded The Roasters Pack (Canada's best specialty coffee subscription service - think of it like your nerdy coffee friend who shares awesome coffees) and has since co-founded a few other coffee projects along his journey in the coffee industry. Hand him a cup of a washed Ethiopian or Colombian and he'll be a happy man. #coffee #coffeepeople #palatedevelopment #tasting #coffeecupping
Let me introduce you to my friend, DeAnna Rogers. At one point, she was a single mom diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. Not only did she meet and marry the man of her dreams and win out over cancer, but she helped create this "little thing" called Traffic & Conversion Summit with the guys over at Digital Marketer. Here's a bit more about her story in her own words: In the past twenty years, I have owned several of my own successful businesses. When diagnosed with cancer, I took a long look at what I wanted to do and realized that my job was not done yet. I became stronger and more determined to make an impact in the community. I also learned to create relationships in order to build a back-end funnel for my business and have truly appreciated the people that I've met along the way. I am not afraid of adversity and truly believe that challenges are just “stepping stones” toward success. This journey led me into the Events and Marketing world and I am thrilled to be working with such great people within Digital Marketer. Working with Roland Frasier and Ryan Deiss is a daily blessing. I began with them over ten years ago as their Events Director and the journey with them and the team at Digital Marketer has been amazing. I have loved managing events for years and my passion for events is now something that I get to do on a daily basis. What started with my first event with 54 people is now working with events that host over 7000+ people. I grow daily along with my team and I am proud of the people that I work beside each day. The event career led me to have the opportunity to become a partner with Roland Frasier and Ryan Deiss on several different companies, including EPIC, Evolve Events, Rise Nation Mastermind, and several others. I am proud to lead the EPIC company, and serve as the GM and guide that program/community of amazing entrepreneurs and investors. I can actually say that my business experience has been crafted over the past twenty years with just “trial and error.” I have no fear of failing, but rather fear of not being able to try at all. I am stronger today because of the people that I work with and the entrepreneurs that I have chosen to work beside. It is with great honor that I am able to share my “success stones” with others in hopes that you too will not give up and you can create your very own success. You control your destiny. Your success is up to YOU! You can find DeAnna on LinkedIn.

After serving 21 years as a soldier in the Army, Army National Guard and Active Guard Reserve, Matthew Langseth retired in 2019. His first post-military role was working for 3 years as a Knowledge Manager for an organization that supports the Army. He is currently the Military Veteran Programs Coordinator for the City of Tucson and is the Marketing and Events Director for Vets2Industry. After working 3 years for the DoD, Matt decided to go in a completely new direction. After landing a role as the Marketing and Events Director for Vets2Industry, Matt took advantage of Coursera's educational resources and earned several applicable certifications. Matt encourages people to research their passions and figure out what really drives them. Find mentors in the field you want to pursue and set up informational interviews. Research job postings and make a plan to upskill or reskill. Consider finding mentors through Veterati, American Corporate Partners (ACP) or LinkedIn. People want to help, but you need to ask. Leverage your free year of LinkedIn Premium and take advantage of free courses through LinkedIn Learning. Even though you may stumble in the beginning, your hard work will produce results.Matt credits networking for his career success. LinkedIn is a platform that has allowed him to stay connected to the military community while providing an opportunity to meet new connections who have become lifelong friends. In addition, LinkedIn has given him educational tools and resources and provided him with job opportunities. Matt uses his network to help others reach their goals. While staying humble, hungry and genuine, Matt believes LinkedIn is the best platform for career transformation. As a volunteer for Vets2Industry, Matt interacts with many service members each month. Most transitioning service members have similar struggles with the biggest one being figuring out what they want to do next. Finding your focus is the first step in your military transition. It will dictate what resources you decide to use, who you choose to network with and how you craft your resume. Starting the transition process early will allow you the time to research career fields and conduct informational interviews. Matt admits that it took him the 3 years he worked for the DoD to find his focus. Realize that your focus may change over time. Be open to new opportunities. The second biggest struggle transitioning service members face is learning how to translate their skills. If Matt were to transition again today, he would find out what he really wanted to do and then use the appropriate resources. In 2019, Matt was using the trendy resources of the time and checking the boxes instead of putting in the hard work of finding his focus. He likens it to fishing with no bait or the wrong bait. Matt encourages transitioning services members to find a focus, make a specific goal and then use applicable resources to achieve the goal. Use volunteer work to gain experience in the civilian sector.Subscribe to our YouTube channel at https://tinyurl.com/llforvets22Connect with Matt at https://www.linkedin.com/in/matthewplangseth/Check out Vets2Industry at https://vets2industry.org/Join the waitlist for the resume writing course Lori is building here: https://www.nextforvets.com/resumeSUBSCRIBE & LEAVE A FIVE-STAR REVIEW and share this with other veterans who might need help as they transition from the military!

Spain may have won the FIFA Women's World Cup, but it looks like New Zealand has also done well out of it. The Spanish have had a fast rise to the top of women's football, beating England 1-nil in last night's final in Sydney. The tournament was shared by Australia and New Zealand. More than 340,000 fans packed through the gates of Eden Park to catch the Auckland games, and more than 85,000 went to the city's fan festival. Auckland Unlimited Arts, Entertainment, and Events Director, Richard Clarke, told Mike Hosking that all the fans have boosted the local economy. He says hotel occupancy was up 50% on last year, and more people equals more spending. Games were also played in Hamilton, Wellington, and Dunedin. The Business of Meetings – Episode 161 – The Fabulous Story of VidCon with Colin Hickey Today we are delighted to speak with a true entrepreneur, Colin Hickey! Colin is the Senior Vice President of Operations for VidCon and Paramount! Colin's career path has been a poster journey of American entrepreneurship, and VidCon is an amazing convention that brings up to 75,000 people to Anaheim each year! Colin joins us today to share his phenomenal story! Colin's bio: Colin Hickey started as a music promoter turned entrepreneur and event manager who has made a mark in the industry with his innovative ideas and exceptional management skills. Starting his career as a music promoter in the early 2000s, he quickly made a name for himself and worked with various artists, venues, and performers. In 2009, he co-founded Gatherboard, an event management and promotion platform that aimed to revolutionize how people discover and attend events. Gatherboard is still going strong today and has become a popular choice for event organizers and attendees alike. From 2011-2013, he worked at the Missoula Downtown Association, as the Marketing and Events Director, contributing to revitalizing the downtown area and organizing several successful events. In 2013, he was hired as the first full-time employee at VidCon, one of the world's largest conferences for online video creators and enthusiasts. His expertise and experience were instrumental in making VidCon a massive success and reaching new heights globally. He is currently Senior Vice President of Operations and co-leads the business globally. With his passion for events and entrepreneurship, he continues to make waves in the industry, always striving for new and innovative ways to bring people together and create unforgettable experiences. Colin's journey After spending half a semester at the University of Wyoming, Colin realized college was not for him. His brothers were heavily into the music scene in Missoula, Montana, and he was a small-time music promoter in Wyoming. A well-known club in Missoula was looking for someone to run it, so Colin moved to Montana in the summer of 2000 to run the club and become a music promoter. He ran the club for three years, became a singer in a band, began booking tours for bands, and started going on tours. That gave him the notion of doing live events. Sometime in 2004 0r 2005, Colin had an idea for people to go online to find out what was happening in the local music scene and then created a website called Gardencityevents.com. It was a hit and was acquired shortly after by an online news company. Colin continued to run websites for events in local and surrounding areas for the news company for the next few years. That was how he met and made friends with Hank Green, the founder of VidCon. VidCon One week before the VidCon convention in July 2013, Colin joined the VidCon team. A few weeks after the show, Hank told Colin they were parting ways with their production company and asked him to run VidCon and build a new team. VidCon kept growing, so they decided to expand internationally. Five years ago, Hank sold the company to Viacom, and they continued running in the same way as before but with more resources. Then Viacom merged with CBS and later rebranded as Paramount. About a year ago, Paramount made Colin a co-leader of the business. VidCon creators The VidCon creators are approachable and relate well to the attendees because many are the same age. Many of the creators also grew up being fans! Security at VidCon The core VidCon fan-track attendee is between twelve and seventeen years old and most of them are female. Fans often get into places they should not be, so VidCon takes the security of the Anaheim Convention Center very seriously. Advice for creators Colin advises new creators to stay true to themselves, be consistent with their content, and to get onto multiple platforms. That will encourage more people to connect and follow them. New platforms As new platforms arise, different kinds of creators surface to join them. The VidCon team likes that because it makes VidCon more diverse. The in-person experience Colin feels that the experience of an in-person event can never be replicated via the metaverse, no matter how life-like the virtual experience may be. Family life It can be difficult for parents to juggle their professional and family lives. Colin feels lucky to have children who are interested in and enjoy what he does. He likes to teach them about the business and tries to get them even more invested in the show. Amid industry-wide event budget cuts, global inflation, and nationwide layoffs, teams across the events industry are forced to decide which things to keep, remove, or reduce in the budget. So in this episode of the Event Brew podcast, the crew shares their thoughts on what they'd keep, cut, and remove. But before we dive into budgets, let's introduce our special co-host, Xander Castro. Our history with Xander started years ago when he worked for Endless as a freelance ghostwriter. Since then, he's worked as an event planner and is now the Events Director at Tiny Seed. He was also featured on an earlier episode of #EventIcons. There, you'll be able to hear more about his background. Thanks to Xander's input in today's episode, the Brew Crew is taking a gamified approach to the heavy topic of budgets. Given the ability to choose the episode topic, he says this: “I dropped in a random idea that just popped into my mind, the PG version of kiss, marry, kill.” The idea is, “If you look at budgets being cut and your clients are looking at stripping away some of the numbers you have for specific budget items, what are the things you need to keep? What are the things that you have an opportunity to cut? And, what are some of the things that you can completely do away with?” So without further ado, let's see what the Brew Crew would do.

The Ferment Podcast - Conversations About Worship And Transformation
In this episode of The Ferment, Adam talks with Christina Lowery in a continuation of our short series on raising up leaders. Christina shares about her inclination towards ministry from an early age, and when that calling was named and fostered by her pastor. She talks about how being a life-long church attendee and student of church health eventually led to her role as the Associate National Director of Church Health and Development for Vineyard USA, the effects of COVID on the church she pastors, and what that time of disruption revealed about the discipleship in our congregations. Christina gives an encouragement to tell people what you see God doing in them, and talks about the gift of entrusting youth with Sunday service responsibilities, as well as the value in broadening our expectations of what it looks like to disciple people. Christina Lowery is the Associate National Director for Church Health and Development. Early in her ministry career, Christina served as the Events Director for a large student internship at Teen Mania Ministries (Acquire the Fire) in Tyler, TX. In 2001, she and her husband Joel joined a local Vineyard Church there, and served on the pastoral team for several years until they were called to move back to Virginia and plant Crossroads Church. Christina and Joel have co-pastored Crossroads Church in Fredericksburg, VA since 2008. As a Lead Pastor, Christina has been a big-picture thinker and creative visionary, responsible for communicating and driving the vision and mission of the church forward. She finds great joy in preaching and teaching, leadership development, and building systems that foster church health and growth. In addition to her local leadership at Crossroads Church, she has served in other leadership roles with the Vineyard, such as an Area Leader in Northern and Central Virginia for ten years (2009-2019) and on the Vineyard Women in Leadership Team for the past three years (2018-2021). Joel and Christina have been married for 23 years and have 3 amazing kids – Hannah (17), Caleb (15) and Zoe (8). The Lowery family loves to travel and so far, their favorite destination is Maui, with its warm sun and beautiful island beaches. In this episode of We Are Vineyard, Jay talks with Christian Weber about accepting Jesus into her heart at an AG church as a child, the freedom she felt when she walked into a youth group at the Sugar Land Vineyard, and the deep, lasting relationships she developed in that youth group. Christian shares about how she found herself planning events in the nonprofit sector as a teenager, and some of the things the Lord has spoken to her about a call to administration as a life of ministry. They discuss the importance of church staffs pursuing training in team dynamics and emotional awareness, and drop some Easter eggs about the 2023 National Conference coming up next summer in Colorado. Christian Weber is the Events Director and Executive Admin for the National Director. She grew up in the Houston area and started attending the Sugar Land Vineyard church as a teenager, where she first heard the phrases “the now and not yet” and “kingdom theology.”. Through her involvement in that youth group, the Holy Spirit captured her heart and she knew she found a home in the Vineyard. In 2005, Christian began working for Bert Waggoner, National Director for Vineyard USA at the time, as Events Director and Exec Admin, and she has continued to serve in this role for Phil Strout's tenure as National Director through to today. Jesus has given her a heart for the Vineyard and the pastors and leaders she gets to serve. Christian and her husband, Ben, met and married at the Sugar Land Vineyard where he was on staff as the Youth Pastor for about 8 years before becoming an attorney. They have three awesome children, Chloe, Atticus, and Ivy. When they aren't acting as a car service for said kids, they really enjoy concerts and great food! For so many of us, the past two years have seen our careers taking big, unexpected turns: leaving positions, setting up own side-hustles and businesses and making unplanned career pivots. When my client Liv reached out to me in January 2021, she had reached a huge crossroads in her career and was ready to make some big decisions about what to do next. After over 10 years of working in the events industry and holding a senior Events Director position at an esteemed company in London, Liv had made the bold decision to leave her role and during our coaching together, decided to become self-employed. Since then, Liv has created a thriving business in the Events industry, taking her expert knowledge and using it to become her own boss. She did this in a climate where many would never have dared, and yet despite the odds being against her, she still succeeded. Is running your own business a bed of roses? Of course not! But as you will hear in our conversation, the journey from employee to self-employed is so rewarding. In this episode we discuss how to make hard career decisions when you are stuck in the frustrating place of the “I don't know”, how to embrace a CEO mindset after so many year of working for someone else, setting boundaries in your business, embracing your own email style and how to deal with the identity shift after leaving full-time employment. Liv's story is such a great example of stepping up and taking a risk- even when you know you may fail. This is the second episode in a special podcast series dedicated to sharing stories of those who have taken huge leaps in their careers, leaving the 9-5 and now working for themselves in something that they deeply love and care about. 970 I am a Public Relations Practitioner with a 15-year track record of experience in media placement, event planning, and creative consumer engagement. I have directed PR campaigns and produced events for a wide range of businesses and organizations including the NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission's Accessible Dispatch Program 5-Borough expansion, where I planned and produced their press conference, resulting in 250K in earned media value. I also served as PR & Events Director for City Girl Beauty Project's (a non-profit organization that empowers young women who are survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking) annual gala, securing influencers such as Miss America 2015 as the host, and securing corporations such as Estee Lauder as a beauty sponsor. Other recent and notable projects include the NYC press conference launch event for Statues for Equality; a Project produced by renowned Australian Public Artist Gillie & Mark, featuring 10 Bronze Statues honoring Oprah Winfrey, PINK, Gabby Douglas, Tererai Trent, Janet Mock, Tracy Dyson, Cheryl Strayed and Nicole Kidman. Before starting Apples and Oranges Public Relations (a NY State certified Minority Woman Business Enterprise/MWBE), I worked in the entertainment and fashion industries as a performing artist and marketing director; and in the architecture & design industry as an Account Executive. Since 2010, under my direction, the agency grew from a one-woman shop to a 4-person agency by 2014; to a boutique operation with over 10 employees currently. Throughout the course of my career, I have also secured media placement and coverage in top-tier media outlets including CBS, FOX News, NY Post, NY1, AD Week, Essence, Page Six, New York Magazine, NY Times, AMNY, WPIX11, NBC4, FOX5, and CBS Radio just to name a few. ________ Want your customers to talk about you to their friends and family?
