If you're not familiar with Long Course Weekend (LCW), it's a unique take on a full-distance triathlon—spread over 2.5 days. The concept is simple: •Swim 3.8K on Friday night •Ride 180K on Saturday •Finish with a full marathon on Sunday The original event took place in Tenby, Wales, following a course similar to the Ironman—though, fun fact, LCW actually came first! Since then, it has expanded to Belgium, Holland, Mallorca, and, most recently, Yorkshire. There's now a range of distances available, so if the full distance feels daunting, there's likely an option to suit you. As Matt explains in our chat, LCW isn't just about elite athletes (though plenty do show up to race). Instead, it's designed for people who are fit, fat, and fun—his words! So, if that sounds like you, LCW could be your next big challenge. In this episode, we discuss: ✅ How the LCW concept was born ✅ Creating an inclusive, festival-style event ✅ Building community support and engagement ✅ Why LCW has a Festival of Champions—not a world championship To keep up to date with Long Course Weekend events use the following links Activity Wales Website - Activity Wales Facebook - activitywalesevents Instagram - activitywalesevents Long Course Weekend Website - LongCourse Weekend Facebook - LongCourseWeekend Instagram - LongCourseWeekend YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@longcourseweekendglobal Cool Videos Watch highlights of: 2024 Long Course Weekend Wales 2024 Long Course Weekend Belgium Join our SWAT/High Performance Human tribe using this link, with a happiness guarantee! For the 2024 growing season, some Western Australian growers are chasing moisture deeper than ever before, by successfully planting conventional wheat varieties down to around 60 to 80mm. This new thinking stems from positive findings from long coleoptile wheat (LCW) research. In this podcast, we hear from Tammin-based grower, Simon York, and SLR agriculture CEO Michael Lamond, on the benefits LCW will have accessing deep moisture and the success growers are having with planting conventional varieties deep this year. There's currently a four-year national GRDC investment underway to provide growers with the knowledge and tools to integrate long coleoptile wheat into their farming systems once the genetics become commercially available. The $12.7 million investment is being led by CSIRO along with research partners including the University of Melbourne, NSW Department of Primary Industries, QLD Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, SLR Agriculture, Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, the University of South Australia and EPAG Research. Long coleoptile wheat (LCW) varieties are proving to be a good insurance policy to ensure emergence in ameliorated soil. This is one of the many positive findings so far from the national $12.7m GRDC investment to help Australian growers integrate long coleoptile wheat into their farming systems once the genetics are commercially available. In this podcast, we hear from Dr Stephen Davies from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) and the CSIRO's Dr Greg Rebetzke on the trial results and insights on how long coleoptile wheat varieties can improve establishment in ameliorated soils. This four-year long coleoptile wheat project, made possible with GRDC investment, is being led by CSIRO along with research partners including the University of Melbourne, New South Wales Department of Primary Industries, Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, SLR Agriculture, DPIRD, the University of South Australia, and EPAG research. I'm continuing my conversation with Les Harris, wilderness therapist and LCW, who has some incredible insights to share about the importance of listening to the feedback our children give us.Let's start with an important reminder: none of us are perfect. We all mess up from time to time, and that's totally okay. Now, here's a game-changer: listening to our kids' feedback. By truly hearing them out and understanding their underlying message, we can better meet their emotional, physical, and relational needs. This deepens the trust and connection between us, setting the stage for beautiful growth. In this episode on listening to our kids' feedback, we discuss:Beating ourselves up over mistakes we made as a parent and the effect this has on our parenting;Parenting from a place of action instead of reaction; The power of truly listening to our kids' feedback;Embracing and validating our kids' wilderness experiencesThe magic of small steps for big changeAnd more!If you'd like to connect, you can find me on Instagram (@bethhillmancoaching) or go to my website www.bethhillmancoaching.com. Today, I'm joined by Les Harris, a wilderness therapist and LCW to talk about the things we can do as parents before thinking of sending our kids to wilderness. Here's one thing both Les and I know to be true:A regulated parent has the ability to regulate a dysregulated child.Isn't that what we all want to be able to do?If this feels unattainable for you right now, know that it's not. You can see this episode as a first stepping stone toward the parent you want to be.In this episode on regulating a dysregulated child, we discuss:Labeling & diagnosing our teens;Things we can do in our homes before thinking about wilderness;Regulating your own emotions in response to your child's behavior; How we sometimes send inconsistent messages to our kids;Tips on how parents can regulate their emotions; Why parents nowadays are more distracted and unavailable; As parents we make mistakes, and that's okay.If you'd like to connect, you can find me on Instagram (@bethhillmancoaching) or go to my website www.bethhillmancoaching.com. 11/5/20-- With the statewide eviction moratorium no longer in place, Gateway City residents face a new threat from the pandemic. In Lawrence, leaders are working together to mount an effective response. Jess Andors and Juan Bonilla from the local CDC, Lawrence Community Works (LCW), take a break from the all-consuming effort to share first-hand perspective. Jess, LCW’s executive director, explains that to understand the gravity of the situation, you have to appreciate how skyrocketing rents in Lawrence led to severe overcrowding before COVID-19 pandemic hit. “Lawrence has a growing population; it’s a magnet for new immigrants. Many Lawrence residents work low-wage jobs and aren’t able to afford the rising rents on their own,” Andors says, and so families begin “doubling and tripling up” with others in apartments. Overcrowding has obvious implications for public health with a disease that spreads quickly in cramped quarters, but it can also make it harder to resolve issues when families get behind on rent. Many vulnerable residents don’t have a direct relationship with their landlord. They aren’t on a lease. Juan, LCW’s deputy director, says the $171 million Governor Baker recently made available to help people remain in their homes is a great resource, but getting the money to the people who need it is challenging. “My concern is the timing of all this,” he tells us. “We are coming on to winter months, we’re in the midst of the school year, and COVID trends are already on the way up. People are going to fall through the cracks,” noting that some residents won’t be able to qualify for rental assistance. And some will move out because “they feel like they have to.” As temperatures drop, this is not the time to kick people on to the street. “We’re creating chaos here,” Juan warns. Fortunately, Lawrence is home to a constellation of nonprofits, businesses, and public officials that know how to join forces and help residents overcome adversity. “I never thought the Columbia Gas disaster would be good for anything,” Jess says, “But it created a community-wide response.”

So we’ve all met this person, or maybe we *are* this person: someone so wrapped up in their job that it provides them with their entire identity. Take that job away, and they’d be totally unmoored. It’s not a good place to be psychologically, I think we can agree. And here to help us identify when we’ve crossed the line into the dark zone, and what to do about it, is our own Coach Larry Seal. Seal is the founder, CEO and an executive coach at Engaged Leadership, and he’s seen this play out more than a few times. Then we’ll hear from listener Kita, who wants to know how to “stay in her lane” and ignore her lazy co-worker, or “LCW” as we say in the SFW studio. And later, Liz and Rico chat with listener Lindsey who needs some advice about bringing up her imminent 3-week vacation, when she’s about to start a new job. Finally, caller Stephanie wants to know the best way to keep in touch with some higher-ups who are leaving her company, just in case she needs those connections in the future. As always, if you've got a burning workplace question and need some advice, don't hesitate to send us an email (that email, unsurprisingly, is also Safe@Wondery.com). You can also find us on Twitter, we’re @SafeFor Work. Don't forget to follow our sage hosts on Twitter, too; they're @SSLiz and @RicoGagliano. And if you want to check out Liz’s other show, Satellite Sisters, you can find it on Apple Podcasts or Art19.

If you enjoy this episode please share it with others and subscribe to the Mile High podcast on iTunes. In this episode, I get asked some very important questions, including the Mile High Speaker Audition, the process on how I select the speakers for Mile High and much more. Mile-High has always been intentional that women are well represented within the presenter list at the event. From the moment we start planning, we always make sure that our CE speakers are for example 50% women, and we do the same with our panels and many of the other speaking slots with a goal of having a very diverse presentation. All from practitioners who are focused on keeping the main thing, the chiropractic adjustment and subluxation the center of chiropractic.
