Dr. Robert Forto just left the stage at Podcast Movement in New York. The session: Don't Sell Your Soul to Social Media. Michele Forto brings the talk home. Podcasters were told to post more, clip more, and feed the algorithm. That builds a business on rented land. When an account is restricted, reach collapses, or a host deletes a library by mistake, you find out what you actually own. Michele covers borrowed vs owned audiences, the path from show to site to offer to list to home, and three moves before your next episode: turn it into a ten-minute magnet, say one URL twice, deliver it by email. If you cannot reach them without the app, they are not your audience. What really happens behind the scenes of some of television's most popular animal shows? On this episode of Dog Works Radio, Robert Forto sits down with television producer and showrunner Rick Dowlearn, whose career has taken him into veterinary clinics, wildlife facilities, remote communities, and animal stories across North America and beyond. Rick has worked on animal-focused productions for Nat Geo Wild, Disney+, Discovery, and Animal Planet, including several seasons connected to Dr. Oakley, Yukon Vet. Rick shares what a showrunner actually does, how production crews capture real veterinary and animal stories without interfering with the professionals doing the work, and why dogs often create some of the most memorable moments on screen. The conversation also explores wildlife rehabilitation, his experiences filming in Alaska, the Yukon, and Belize, and why storytelling can make information about animals far more memorable. Robert and Rick also discuss the changing media landscape, from traditional television to YouTube and podcasts, and whether a video podcast is really a podcast at all. Rick introduces his latest project, The Animal Show with Gozer and Rick, inspired in part by his relationship with his French Bulldog, Gozer, and his desire to continue telling the stories of people whose lives revolve around animals. If you love dogs, veterinary television, wildlife stories, podcasting, or simply want to know what happens when the cameras start rolling on an animal TV production, this episode offers a fascinating look behind the curtain. On September 11, 2001, hundreds of working dogs and their handlers answered the call. They searched through twisted steel and concrete, guided people out of the World Trade Center, recovered those who were lost, and offered comfort to firefighters and recovery workers during one of the darkest moments in American history. In this special episode of Dog Works Radio, Michele Forto remembers the dogs of 9/11 and the handlers who trusted them to do extraordinary work under extraordinary conditions. The episode shares stories of dogs including Sirius, Roselle, Salty, Apollo, Trakr, and Bretagne, while also exploring the lasting effect September 11 had on search-and-rescue training, veterinary research, and how we understand working dogs. The episode also closes with a personal connection. Robert and Michele later named a litter of their own sled dogs after 9/11 rescue dogs, including Tikva and Bretagne, giving this remembrance a connection that extends well beyond the history books. If walking your dog feels more like being towed down the trail, the problem probably is not your leash, collar, or lack of exercise. It is the way your dog has learned the walk. In this episode of Dog Works Radio, Michele Forto from Alaska Dog Works explains why dogs pull, how owners accidentally reinforce the behavior, and why equipment alone rarely solves the problem. She breaks down the importance of timing, teaching the dog that a slack leash keeps the walk moving, and practicing the behavior where it actually matters: neighborhoods, parking lots, sidewalks, trails, and busy Alaska trailheads. A reliable walk should work whether you are heading through Wasilla on a Tuesday or Anchorage on a Saturday. The goal is not simply getting your dog tired enough to stop pulling. It is training both ends of the leash so the behavior holds up in real life. Service dog training is about much more than putting a vest on a dog and teaching basic obedience. A reliable service dog must have the right temperament, learn specific disability-related tasks, demonstrate strong public-access behavior, and continue performing consistently in the real world. In this episode of Dog Works Radio, Michele Forto explains what service dog training really looks like in Alaska. She discusses how service dogs differ from therapy dogs and emotional support animals, how dogs are evaluated for service work, why training commonly takes 18 to 24 months, and what owner-trained teams should expect. You'll also hear about challenges unique to Alaska, including winter weather, limited daylight, wildlife, long travel distances, ferries, small aircraft, and fewer training resources in rural communities. Most importantly, Michele explains why choosing the right dog and setting realistic expectations from the beginning can make the difference between a successful working team and a frustrating experience. Most brands running Facebook ads think they have creative diversity. They don't. Swapping background colors, changing text overlays, tweaking the thumbnail reads as the same asset to Meta. If 70% of the pixels match in the first three seconds, it is the same ad. You are running the same creative in the same auction and paying for it twice.Meta partnership ads add genuinely distinct creative to your Facebook ads account at essentially zero cost. This episode covers what they actually are, how they differ from whitelisting, and why the real value has nothing to do with CPA improvements.Real data from six client accounts, including a haircare brand with 50% of total ad spend flowing through the founder's handle and a 15% reduction in cost per acquisition. Taylor Swift may be famous for being a cat person, but photos of Travis Kelce traveling with a fluffy white Samoyed puppy have people talking. Could celebrity influence suddenly make the Samoyed one of the next must-have dog breeds? In this episode of Dog Works Radio, Michele Forto looks beyond the celebrity buzz to discuss what families need to know before bringing home a Samoyed. These beautiful northern working dogs are intelligent, social, active, and independent, with coats that require serious maintenance. Michele also explains why sudden breed popularity can create problems when people choose dogs based on appearance rather than temperament and lifestyle. From early training and exercise to grooming, responsible breeding, recall, leash manners, and learning to settle, there is much more to living with a Samoyed than the picture-perfect puppy seen online. Before falling in love with the latest celebrity dog, ask the question that really matters: Does this breed actually fit your life? Your dog sits perfectly in the kitchen, comes when called across the living room, and seems to know exactly what you are asking. Then you walk outside, and suddenly it feels like all that training disappeared. In this episode of Dog Works Radio, Michele Forto explains why your dog probably has not forgotten their training and is not deliberately ignoring you. Instead, dogs often struggle to generalize behaviors from one environment to another. Add new smells, other dogs, wildlife, traffic, people, and dozens of other distractions, and a simple command can suddenly become much harder. You will learn how to gradually move training from the house into the real world, why distance from distractions matters, how to choose better rewards outdoors, and why repeatedly giving the same command can actually weaken your training. Michele also discusses using tools such as a long line to safely develop a more reliable recall. The goal is not simply to have a dog that behaves during a training session. It is to build a dog that can use those skills at home, around the neighborhood, on trails, during trips, around guests, and wherever life takes you. Have you ever wondered why your dog follows you everywhere, from the kitchen to the bedroom and sometimes even the bathroom? You are definitely not alone. The so-called "Velcro dog" is something many dog owners know very well, but there is more behind this behavior than simple affection. In this episode of Dog Works Radio, we discuss why dogs follow their people, how reinforcement and daily routines can encourage the behavior, and why breed tendencies, boredom, insecurity, and attachment can all play a role. We also discuss the difference between a dog that simply enjoys being near you and one that may struggle when you are out of sight. Most importantly, you will learn how to encourage healthy independence without damaging the relationship you have built with your dog. If your four-legged shadow seems to follow every step you take, this episode will help you better understand what your dog may be communicating and what to do next. In this solo episode, David Richter breaks down why so many real estate investors and business owners feel like their CPA isn't delivering, and why the problem usually starts long before tax season. The real issue isn't your accountant — it's the quality of the books, the communication process, and whether you have anyone connecting the dots between your bookkeeper, your CPA, and your actual financial goals. If you're tired of surprise tax bills, slow response times, and feeling like you're always paying backwards, this episode gives you the framework to fix all three.Timeline Highlights[0:26] The real reason most people are frustrated with their CPA — and why the first question to ask is whether you actually gave them what they needed[0:46] The three financial statements your CPA needs to do their job well: a clean profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statement[1:08] Why communication process matters just as much as clean books — and what to establish with your accountant before tax season hits[1:46] Three ways to know your books are actually accurate: self-education, hiring a fractional CFO to oversee your bookkeeper, or having your CPA periodically review the books throughout the year[2:45] How a CPA uses your books inside professional tax software to find every legitimate deduction and minimize what you owe[3:16] Why keeping books current throughout the year allows your CPA to give you forward-looking tax estimates instead of just reacting to last year's numbers[3:39] How Profit First's dedicated tax bank account lets you pay quarterly tax estimates without touching operating expenses or owner pay[4:16] What to clarify upfront with your CPA: turnaround times on emails, how many calls are included, and what it costs to get more access[4:51] How a fractional CFO acts as the connective tissue between your bookkeeper and your CPA — managing both relationships and helping you actually implement tax strategy[5:14] Closing call to action: visit profitrei.com to schedule a free discovery callKey TakeawaysClean books are the foundation of everything. Your CPA can only minimize your tax liability with accurate numbers. If the profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statement aren't in order, no amount of tax strategy will close the gap.Don't wait until April to talk to your accountant. When books are maintained throughout the year, your CPA can give you real-time tax estimates so you're paying quarterly and planning ahead — not scrambling when the bill arrives.Establish your communication expectations upfront. Knowing this before you need it saves a lot of frustration later.A Profit First tax account removes the guesswork from quarterly payments. Here's the pattern that separates them from the ones who stay stuck.
If you're saying yes to every patient request, you're not delivering better service—you're creating inconsistency in your results, your operations, and your revenue. That "do whatever the patient asks" mindset might feel like good customer service, but it actually limits your ability to grow a profitable, scalable aesthetics practice. Today, I break down the shift from transactional, a la carte services to structured, outcome-driven treatment plans—and why that change is what separates busy med spas from valuable businesses. Where "Yes to Everything" Starts to Break Your Aesthetics Practice The bottleneck I see most often is an order-taking approach that fragments your service delivery and weakens patient outcomes. When you allow patients to pick treatments piece by piece, you lose control of the client journey. That leads to inconsistent results, lower patient trust, and missed opportunities to build long-term retention and repeat business. This isn't just a clinical issue—it directly impacts your medspa revenue, your operational efficiency, and ultimately your enterprise value. What Happens When You Design for Outcomes Instead of Transactions If you want stronger results and more predictable growth, your model has to shift. • Why comprehensive treatment plans increase client retention and lifetime value • How patient education reduces pricing sensitivity and builds trust • The role of holistic, multimodality plans in improving patient outcomes • Why structured offers simplify operations, hiring, and provider accountability • How clear client journeys drive referrals and more consistent revenue How to Move From A La Carte Med Spa Services to Patient Plans If you want to operate at a higher level, you need to take control of the solution—not just the service. Start by anchoring every consultation in the patient's long-term aesthetic goals, not the single treatment they asked for. Build a complete plan that includes the necessary services, cadence, and product recommendations required to achieve that outcome. Standardize how those plans are delivered so every provider follows the same framework. This creates consistency in both patient experience and results, while making your practice easier to scale. Most importantly, stop compromising the plan. When you allow patients to strip down what's required, you weaken the outcome—and that affects both satisfaction and retention. The Role You Need to Step Into as You Grow If you're scaling your med spa or thinking about expansion, your role has to evolve from provider to advisor. Stop and ask yourself: • Am I guiding the patient journey, or reacting to requests? • Are my treatment plans consistent across providers? • Can my team confidently recommend full solutions without me? • Do my results reflect a system—or individual decisions? Without a defined, repeatable structure, growth creates more complexity instead of more profitability.
