Singer/Songwriter Brian Fuller joins us on Stories Behind the Songs this week! Brian moved to Nashville young and hungry in 2021 and has been all over town since then. He was one of Chris Blair's Unsigned Artist of the Month back in October 2023 and since then has landed a major cut with “I Could Be That Rain” for Randall King and a pub deal with Sony Music Publishing. Side note, if you haven't heard the behind the scenes from a publisher's input, check out our episode we did with Rusty Gaston, President/CEO of Sony Music Publishing. Brian recently released the song “Blue Skies Beautiful,” written with Brandon Kinney, and he just released a song on May 24th that he wrote with Joey Hyde and Justin Wilson called “That Girl Can Drive.” Definitely give that song a listen anywhere you find your music - it's a great one… At The Listening Room, we're all about supporting the songwriters behind the songs our favorite artists are putting out, but it's always fun talking to someone like Brian who is killing it at both songwriting AND artistry. In this episode, we'll also take a dive into Brian's favorite lyrics from his song - “Blue Skies Beautiful,” his love/ hate relationship with the “oversaturated” music industry, and figuring out how to say something that's been said a thousand times in a new way when he's writing a song. As usual, we also get to hear Brian play some of “I Could Be That Rain” and “Blue Skies Beautiful.” Make sure to check out Brian's single that just came out, and if you enjoyed this episode, share it with your friends, give us a follow, and check out our SBTS Spotify playlist - highlighting the songs written by our podcast guests. We are passionate about sharing the stories behind the songs and highlighting the writers with those stories, and we need your support to keep going! A big shout out to our sponsors as well! Dan Smalley may just now be making a name for himself, but he sings with the voice of experience. The Alaska born military brat who came of age in Shreveport, Louisiana, has a way of making you believe what he's singing. Smalley expresses a fresh take on Country music that knows tradition, inspired by the greats of the genre and infused with the swampy sounds of his roots, the Gospel of hardwood church pews and the impassioned delivery of Soul music. Artists like Merle Haggard, Ray Charles, Waylon Jennings, Al Green, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and other legends provided inspiration, while the against-the-grain success of Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson drew him to Nashville. There, he worked with producer Keith Stegall on his Debut EP IF I'M BEING HONEST which came out in 2020 in the midst of a global pandemic. From there Smalley navigated in and out of Major Record deals and honed his direction after producing his first Full-Length Record THE STATE OF COUNTRY MUSIC, set to release Independently(Smallside Records) through Onerpm May 10, 2024. As a songwriter, artists like Ashley McBryde(Grammy Nominated album “Never Will”) Trace Adkins, Randall King, Jerrod Nieman, Makayla Lynn, Dillon Carmichael and others have included Smalley co-writes on their recent releases. Dan's delivery on stage has landed him on bills alongside Willie Nelson, Allison Kraus, Turnpike Troubadours, Ashley McBryde, Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood, Eli Young Band, Justin Moore, Dwight Yoakam, Randy Rogers Band, Ryan Bingham and a list of notable others both in the US and abroad. Smalley has played some of the greatest festivals in the world(Faster Horses, Country Fest, Frank Brown Songwriter, Nashville Nights International Songwriter Festival)and is making his “Buckle and Boots”(Manchester) Debut in May 2024 as well as his Heartland Fest(Denmark) Debut in June of 2024 after his most recent UK/DK Spring Tour through Glasgow, Belfast, England and Denmark. Texas Slim makes a spirited return to broadcasting with his brand-new series, "Yeehaw! Cowboy Talk." This series promises a mix of heartfelt, random musings with a healthy dose of sarcasm and that distinctive West Texas Dirt Road Twang. Slim plans to share tales of his adventures and insights, offering a glimpse into his life, his beginnings, and his clear vision for the future. As someone who's traveled extensively, covering 160k miles across three continents and circling the globe 1.5 times in less than three years, he brings a wealth of experience and stories, especially from his quest for global #BeefIntelligence.Slim is setting the stage for a modern-day, local and global cattle drive, calling on listeners to gear up for some "catastrophic winds" ahead. He hints at exciting, challenging times, urging his audience to embrace integrity and focus, drawing parallels between life's trials and the journey of a professional team roper learning the ropes. Highlighting the foundational spirit of the American Cowboy, Slim shares anecdotes of camaraderie and resilience, from East Texas's distinct accent to the humorous and sometimes perilous cowboy life, including his own air-lifting adventure across the southern Rockies.Announcing a grand vision for a "Worldwide #BeefIntelligence Kingdom Series" dubbed the new International Lifestyle, Slim intertwines his personal adventures with broader themes of market access, spirit, and freedom. He passionately speaks about combating what he sees as threats to children's innocence and the "Harvest of Deception," signaling a bold stance against undisclosed adversaries. With a nod to his roots and the "True Grit" instilled by his West Texas upbringing, Slim is poised to embark on a mission filled with purpose and determination. In addition to his storytelling, Slim plans to share "Slimisms" and his love for West Texas Red Dirt music, giving shoutouts to local talents like Randall King and their shared dirt road heritage.Stay tuned for "Yeehaw! Cowboy Talk" for a blend of tales, insights, and music from the heart of Texas, as told by Texas Slim himself.Transcript: Hey, I miss ya'll….I'm back~At least as far as doing that hippy-punk-cowboy kinda talkin….dang do I have some stories to share. This new series that I am calling “Yeehaw - Hippy-punk-cowboy talk” is going to be random, it's going to come from the heart, and it will have some sarcasm and a little West Texas Dirt Road Twang to it. I've been to a few places and I've done a few things throughout my lifetime and now it's time to give you some perspective of who this ole boy is, the vision I had in the beginning and the very clear vision I currently have. And we're all going to move forward together….time to step up and focus in on the true art of story tellin.I'll tell ya one thing, it's time to pull the trigger folks! A train wreck is coming but don't go frettin…we built out a new rail system and the rail transition is ready to go. We've tested and have the results to prove it.I'll be tellin' ya'll stories of my life, which started out by me looking up at the sky. I come from the “Llano Estacado,” the “Dessert High Plains” a place that is referred to as the “Caprock” and the land of the Comanches, “Comancheria”. THE Texas Panhandle! THE World Headquarters of the Beef Initiative and the I Am Texas Slim Foundation. And boy howdy has it been one hell of a ride. 160k miles driven, 3 continents explored, 1.5 trips around the globe all on the quest for the most fascinating journey and exploration of global #BeefIntelligence the the world has ever had….and all that done in less than 3 years….you should hear about the prior 40 before that…Oh, and btw it's just getting started so, let's all pay attention and get a new “Yeehaw” swagger that is ready to scream across the world. We are about to start the next local and global modern-day cattle drive and every one of you is a hired hand and it's time to pull yourselves up by your bootstraps and saddle up.We have got some catastrophic winds coming our way and I am going to do my best to communicate what I see and how the next two years are going to play out from my perspective. Since I just hired ya'll on, I'm going to tell you what your job is and what tasks you are going to have moving forward. If we do a good job I'll be throwing a big ole International Cattleman's Feast and it will be on me. I'll just ask that you start living with integrity, and with a new focus. It takes a little practice at first but you'll get the hang of it. Kinda like how ole Cole Bolton became a professional team roper. One miss at a time. He always saddles back up, he and his roping partner take a deep breath, and as a team, they go get the job done one calf at a time. Cole don't talk much about his skills, but he has many at his disposal.Folks, the Beef Initiative was started with a foundational spirit that is extremely rare and extremely sought after, it's the spirit of the great American Cowboy.See, I am punchy as hell, I'm from West Texas…Ole Cole, he's from East Texas, I think he talks funny.Anyways, back to the cowboy spirit I was referring to. There are so many cowboys that behave and talk funny in so many ways. Ole Jason Wrich, a stern talker he is!I can't wait to get back on the stage with Jason at the 2nd Colorado Beef Initiative Summit…His Colorado Cowboy slur kinda straightens your posture up for you. You need to come try it. He'll put your butt at attention!See cowboys do a lot of hard, difficult, funny, and stupid things. Did I ever tell you the time I got airlifted across the southern Rockies? Hell, come to find out I was in a chopper, not a Cessna. I could have swore I was a glidin, not choppin… that morphine was strong, I‘ll give it that much…To be clear. We're all tough as shit. Kinda overly hard-headed, soft at the right times but most of all we are the ones you want to be looking at and listening to. So, I am going to throw in some “Yippe-Ki Yay” and we are going to start a big ole production here.I'm going to use ya'll as my dress rehearsal to start broadcasting a Worldwide #BeefIntelligence Kingdom Series I call the new International L...
Meet Randall King, a Campbell commit who also just scored 1,000 points in basketball and won a conference championship for Northern Nash. We discuss his journey, his future, and he shares encouragement for all young and aspiring athletes.
Welcome to another episode of Stories Behind the Songs. This week, we're joined by Adam James. Adam has been in Nashville since 2009 and shares some of his experiences in the industry with us, including co-writing Kenny Chesney's #1 hit "Knowing You" with Brett James and Kat Higgins. Adam takes us into the writing room, discusses the process of coming up with the concept, and reflects on everything that unfolded after hearing the news this one would be cut by Kenny Chesney. Adam also has notable cuts on Cody Johnson's new album, "Leather," with the songs "Double Down" and "Whiskey Bent". He talks about the excitement of hearing Cody cut these songs and dives into how Jelly Roll chose “Whiskey Bent” to feature on because he resonated with the material from the song. We also take a closer look at some of the lyrics from this song and Adam plays a small portion of it for us. Adam has been consistently writing with a cut coming out on Randall King's upcoming album, “Into the Neon” titled “Burns Like Her”. Give Adam a follow in the liner notes below to stay up to date with what he's working on and, if you enjoyed the stories from this episode, give us a follow. Summers were spent pouring concrete, a testament to his strong work ethic. However, it was at the age of 14 that he stumbled upon a new passion—music.Palmer's introduction to music came through his dad's cassette player, where he began teaching himself to play country songs on the guitar. Initially, it was a casual hobby, an escape from the rigors of daily life. But as the chords and melodies flowed from his fingertips, he discovered a deep connection to the genre.Upon graduating from high school, Palmer pursued his love for baseball by enrolling at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The bustling beach community provided a vibrant backdrop, but it was the familiar strains of country music that brought him solace and a sense of home.During his first year of college, Palmer started crafting his own lyrics and melodies, slowly falling in love with the art of songwriting. This newfound passion became all-consuming. In his second year, he embarked on a solo journey to Lubbock, Texas, and then to Nashville, Tennessee, where he made a life-changing decision—to pursue a career in country music.Graduating from college in just two and a half years, Palmer packed his bags in April of 2017 and returned to Fort Worth, Texas, to try his hand at making it in the country music industry. This bold move marked the beginning of a remarkable journey filled with both challenges and triumphs.Since then, Palmer Anthony's music has found its way into the hearts of fans, accumulating over 3 million streams on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. His band has embarked on a whirlwind tour across the country, performing at over 100 full band shows, including opening for renowned acts like Eli Young Band, Randall King, and Chase Rice in 2022 alone.Whiskey Riff, a respected voice in the country music scene, has recognized Palmer Anthony as "one of the new names you need to know" in the Texas Country / Red Dirt genre. His music resonates with listeners, capturing the essence of country storytelling while infusing it with his unique perspective and experiences. As Palmer Anthony's star continues to rise, his journey from the West to the heart of country music serves as an inspiring testament to following one's passion and embracing the power of songwriting to connect with audiences on a profound level. With each note and lyric, he shares a piece of his story and the authenticity of his roots in the ever-evolving landscape of country music. This episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and presented to you by The Barn Media Group.

Yes, it takes all three of those to help me get better. It's been a rough week being sick. From getting a fever, to it breaking, to coughing all night, to keeping my wife awake through it all - it's been a heck of a week. I managed to stumble through it until Friday - by then I had had enough! I went to Urgent Care - and after the steroid injection, the pink cough syrup and antibiotics, I am starting to feel human again! I hope to be 100% this Friday for Randall King at John T. Floore Country Store. I hope to see you there! PS Check out the cool matching Podcast t-shirts! Thanks KK!

Haddock's diligent nature mixed with his traditional, authentic style of country music has quickly solidified his spot as a staple in the Red Dirt Country scene. Gearing up to release a string of new singles with hit producer/songwriter and Haddock's manager Trent Willmon (Cody Johnson, Eric Church, Randy Houser, Little Big Town) at the helm, the young talent is on an unprecedented path. Haddock recently released the first taste of new music in nearly 2 years with “Wind It Down” and “Better Than Your Memory”, and is slated to release a collaboration with Jon Wolfe in the coming months. The new project follows Haddock's early 2020 Red Dirt Texas album release which has produced 3 Top 15 Texas Country singles. The Texas A&M Senior clocks more than 150 tour dates a year and has recently opened for artists including Randall King, Steve Wariner, Kevin Fowler, Casey Donahew, Roger Creager and more.Currently boasting more than 3 million streams, Haddock has tracks featured on Spotify's Texas Music Now, Apple Music's Don't Mess With Texas and Amazon Music's Texas Forever playlists. Haddock further solidified his trajectory when he was awarded New Male Vocalist of the Year at the leading Texas award show, the 2020 T3R Awards.Haddock's 10-track, sophomore album entitled Red Dirt Texas, features five songs co-written by Haddock and chart-topping songwriters including Willmon, Kevin Fowler, David Lee Murphy, Terry McBride, Tommy Karlas, John Pierce, Jim Collins and more. Upon its January 2020 release, Red Dirt Texas reached No. 39 on the iTunes Country albums chart. The “Red Dirt Texas” music video made its world premiere on Billboard and has racked up more than 450K views across all platforms. Staying true to his Texas roots, Haddock recently announced a partnership with award-winning Texas based distillery, Texas Ranger Whiskey. Some may be surprised to find out that Haddock is only 22-years-old as he has a musical instinct well beyond his years and sites influences from George Strait, Eric Church, Cody Johnson, Jon Pardi and Clay Walker. When Haddock is not juggling classes and tour dates, the avid outdoorsman spends time hunting, fishing and experimenting on his Traeger grill. Having been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at a young age, Haddock works with several organizations to help spread awareness of the disease and is an advocate/speaker for JDRF.This is episode may or may not contain adult content such as strong language, references to smoking, alcohol, sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll.
