The Race IndyCar Podcast is back for 2024 with an interview with one of the surprises of the silly season and more listeners' tech questions answered. At one stage Alex Palou looked nailed on to drive for Arrow McLaren in IndyCar this year, but a change of heart meant McLaren had to move quickly to snap up a replacement. They turned to young prospect David Malukas, who joins the show for the first time as a McLaren driver. He talks about what is expected of him at McLaren given he is Palou's replacement, discusses where he needs to step up in 2024, and even cons co-host Jack Benyon with his photoshop skills. Plus, plenty more. Ace engineer Charlie Ping re-joins the show to follow-up on the special episode we did on listeners' questions about tech to answer the remaining queries. We discuss what is a shaker rig, the difference in approach between an F1 engineer and an IndyCar engineer, pack racing and how to approach a new track in IndyCar. "We are so back." BetaKit reporter Josh Scott joins to play the most dangerous game: trying to beat his boss in identifying the biggest tech questions that will define 2024. The Race IndyCar Podcast brings you a mega episode full of your questions relating to tech, and no stone is left unturned in the present or hypothetical future of the series. Of course, questions about IndyCar's recently delayed hybrid unit dominate, but JR Hildebrand and our very special guest, engineer Charlie Ping, also take questions on a range of other topics including the 12-year-old chassis, while Hildebrand even outlines his future for what he thinks IndyCar should do to avoid stagnating in an impassioned plea for change. It's not just tech itself we're talking about, it's why certain areas of tech are allowed to be developed or not in what is a spec-chassis series. How dampers came to be open to development and where the series engine regs could be improved to lower costs also form part of the answers. Ping also gives a full explainer of dampers - the most open area for development outside of the engine on an IndyCar - what they control in the IndyCar machine and how they impact set-up philosophy, with Hildebrand explaining what it's like as a driver to be at an under-funded team trying to outsmart the bods at the well-funded top outfits. We've still got some questions left over to answer in a future episode, so if you have a question for our hosting team, email podcasts@the-race.com Follow The Race on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook Check out our latest videos on YouTube Download our app on iOS or Android Click here to join The Race Members' Club Learn more about your ad choices. We kick off this podcast with Ford announcing that they plan on being the 2nd largest EV manufacturer in the next 24 months. With the plans on producing 600,000 EVs per year after that. Everyone gives there opinions and if they would buy an EV. Electric Vehicles... what's not to like. Well according to most of us... A LOT! Chris adds a little fuel to fire and brings up the fact that Ford and Purdue University is trying to develop a 2400 AMP cable that can charge an EV in 5 minutes. Does that change anyone's mind. What does Patrick say about 2400 AMPs and the human body? Steve and Shane give us an update on the 1965 F100. When will it be ready to smoke tires? We close out the podcast with some Tech Questions and Steve talking about the first thing he will do when he moves to a free state. Hint - Gunpowder and a wick. Hot Laps Podcast #42 is live. If you enjoy listening to us leave a comment... who knows, maybe subscribe. In this episode, Shane, Patrick and Chris discuss the "NEW" Hybrid Ford Maverick. Just the name Maverick doesn't really get the blood pumping considering what they looked like back in the day but a smaller version of the Ranger has Ford gone mad? Do they really need another truck platform? Well apparently they do as they are almost sold out. Chris goes crazy and calls the push for hybrids a conspiracy theory to keep gas high but who knows. Next what if you were forced to sell you car because you did a couple of donuts in the town square and ran from the cops. Think its crazy... not in Germany. We take you Tech Questions as always. Come spend a few minutes with us and if it sucks let us know. If you like it subscribe. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/heatshield-products/message

With three races in the books for MotoGP 2020, Toby Moody is joined by technical guru Neil Spalding to look at what we've learned about the secrets of the machines on the grid so far this season. That means a big chat about how Honda has got itself into so much trouble with a bike only Marc Marquez can ride, and what it will have to do to fix that - plus Neil's theory on what might have caused Marquez's crash at Jerez. Yamaha's engine dramas are also in the spotlight, as are the struggles for its three riders on factory 2020-spec machinery in Brno, and why Maverick Vinales appears lost. Yamaha's problems are nothing compared to the factory Ducati team, which is all at sea. And how did Johann Zarco manage to star on its 2019 bike? Find out much more about the man Toby and Neil refer to as 'Lorenzo 2' and why that's working so well for him at a reborn Avintia team. There's also an explanation of what KTM does differently to all of its rivals, and how that helped it win in Brno, plus why Suzuki has little to show for getting everything right technically, and a look at if the Aprilia is as good as we keep being told it is.
Sheyn is concerned it's the end of watermelon season, Josh gets validated on all of his mountain bike points and Paul gets screwed with YouTube timelines...
