According to a Politico report, some Democrats are starting to suspect President Joe Biden may not run for reelection in 2024. The article explains that governors Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and Phil Murphy (D-NJ) and senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) are all preparing to run in the event Biden “bows out.” 4:10pm- On Thursday, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg visited East Palestine, Ohio—weeks after the area experienced a catastrophic train derailment that resulted in the release of toxic chemicals. He writes: “disruption of the supply of energy imports from Russia is supposed to have highlighted the necessity of developing wind and solar (and now hydrogen) as a local alternative. Except that these energy sources are more costly and less stable than fossil-fuel or nuclear workhorses. They are worse for the environment once one considers the mess made while mining and refining the rare-earth minerals that go into renewable tech. And since China controls much of the global supply chain for those minerals, green energy merely replicates in Asia the form of energy dependence Europe now loudly bemoans regarding Russia.” Read the full article at: https://www.wsj.com/articles/awakened-by-ukraine-europe-wont-get-out-of-bed-energy-secuirty-russia-invasion-war-renewables-oil-1601cb50?mod=hp_opin_pos_6#cxrecs_s 5:05pm- Jimmy Failla—stand-up comedian & Fox News Radio host—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his up-coming opportunity to guest-host “Gutfeld!” on Fox News. If money is the mother's milk of politics, then rhetoric is its currency. And few political characters of the late 20th century had a sharper wit than former New York City Mayor Ed Koch.Consider this gem from Koch: “If you agree with me on nine out of 12 issues, vote for me. If you agree with me on 12 out of 12 issues, see a psychiatrist.”Over this career in politics, Koch found himself sparring with numerous people, politicians and celebrities and even, occasionally, the voters. To be sure, Koch saw this as part and parcel of his role as a political and an elected official. As he said, “You punch me, I punch back. I do not believe it's good for one's self-respect to be a punching bag.”But Koch also saw his role in picking political fights as having a larger purpose than his own political advantage: he was a stalwart defender of the Jewish people and the state of Israel, and a tireless booster of New York City.In a new essay in the February 2023 issue of Commentary Magazine, Tevi Troy looks at five battles Koch picked and the bigger reasons for them. In conclusion, Troy finds Koch “was, at his best, a happy warrior.”In this episode, Eric Kohn, Acton's Director of Marketing & Communications, speaks with Tevi Troy, a visiting fellow at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, about Ed Koch's life, legacy, and the lessons we can learn from him on what battles to pick for greater causes and why.Subscribe to our podcastsRegister Now for Business Matters 2023Apply Now for Acton University 2023 (Early Bird Pricing)Ed Koch, Ten Years Gone | Commentary Hosted on Acast. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 2 Fox News White House Correspondent Jacqui Heinrich questioned Karin Jean-Pierre about whether the Department of Justice (DOJ) or White House would be investigating possible national security risks to President Joe Biden's mishandling of classified documents. Unsurprisingly, Jean-Pierre declined to answer the question and instead referred reporters to the DOJ—which, according to several reporters, is also reluctant to provide comprehensive answers. On Twitter, billionaire Elon Musk wrote, the World Economic Forum “is increasingly becoming an unelected world government that the people never asked for and don't want.” Panelists during one of the WEF's meetings predicted that there could soon be a catastrophic cyber attack. Eli Lake—Contributing Editor at Commentary Magazine & Host of The Reeducation Podcast—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his latest article, “American Nomenklatura.” In the piece, Lake writes of social media's content moderators and the role they play according to revelations in the “Twitter File” releases: “In just a few short years, this nomenklatura has come to constitute an implicit ruling class on the Internet, one that collectively determines what information and news sources the rest of us should see on major platforms. Talk about ‘free speech' and ‘the First Amendment' may actually be beside the point here. The Twitter that Musk bought was part of a larger machine—one that attempts to shape conversations online by amplifying, muzzling, and occasionally banning participants who run afoul of its dogma.” You can read the full article at: https://www.commentary.org/articles/eli-lake/twitter-files-reveal-american-nomenklatura/ On Tuesday night, Flyers' defenseman Ivan Provorov chose not to participate in pre-game warmups—citing a reluctance to wear rainbow-colored “Pride Night” gear. Speaking with the press after the game, Provorov stated “I respect everybody. I respect everybody's choices…my choice is to stay true to myself and to my religion.” Despite his explanation, sports journalists from outlets like Sports Illustrated and The Athletic expressed outrage over his decision not to wear “Pride Night” equipment.
