He rented a snowboard. He rode the lifts. And then he vanished. His car remained in the resort parking lot. His belongings were untouched. Search teams scoured the glacier and surrounding terrain, assuming the kind of tragedy the mountains know too well — a fall, a crevasse, an accident swallowed by ice. Nothing was found. For fourteen years, the glacier kept its silence. Then, in the summer of 2003, melting ice revealed human remains. The mountain had given Duncan back.
