In this Small Talk mini-sode, I share some feedback about last week's "Ghosts Ghosted Me" email, and then read a story about a haunted Spider-Man remote control car (which seems to coincide with me wearing a lot of Spidey clothing). Plus, I offer some additional thoughts about my recent Talking Strange interview with Viva Farris of Hidden Marietta, and her Crown Heights Brooklyn ghosts. And I chat about the new Haunted Mansion teaser trailer, and the passing of Ricou Browning from the Creature from the Black Lagoon. _______________________________________________________________ Talking Strange Paranormal Show is part of the Den of Geek network, and is hosted by Aaron Sagers, paranormal journalist and researcher, and Paranormal Pop Culture expert. How Dance is Taught / Daniel Levi-Sanchez. In this episode of DanceCast, Silva interviews the dance educator Daniel Levi-Sanchez. Daniel reflects on his formative years teaching himself street forms as well as eventually receiving more traditional training from the Inner-City Ensemble Theatre and Dance Co., from Juilliard, and from Twyla Tharp herself. Daniel advocates for a teaching style that empowers students instead of isolates them. He muses on how a ballet or jazz class will lose a lot of students if the class is presented in the public schools, or how students who go to a studio often end up dropping out after high school or college. In 2019, Daniel was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and acquired a disability. After successfully completing a dance challenge from an old colleague, Daniel began to revisit dance with a focus on dance teachers with disabilities.Text by Emmaly WiederholtDaniel Levi-Sanchez, from Paterson, New Jersey, received his formal dance training from the Inner-City Ensemble Theatre and Dance Co. and the Juilliard School of Dance. He performed with Twyla Tharp Dance, American Ballet Theatre, and ODC/San Francisco and is a dance educator with a master's degree in Education from Rutgers University. Daniel has taught ballet and modern dance at Rutgers University, Raritan Valley Community College, and for three years at PS 191, The Paul Robeson School in Crown Heights Brooklyn. In 2019, Daniel was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, a neuromuscular disorder brought on by an autoimmune response resulting in permanent disability. Today, Daniel is focusing on his health first, as well as finding ways of remaining involved in the dance community through advocacy for teachers with disabilities, advice for dancers and teachers, writing and testing the limits of what he can and cannot do in the hope of someday being able to teach again. Daniel currently resides in Kingston, Rhode Island. This episode was published in collaboration with Stance on Dance. And more about Silva does at Art Spark Texas check out the dance programs website, bodyshift.org

Qool DJ Marv For MamaSoul & Friends at The Harlem Connection on WBAI-FM NYC - Aired May 14 2021 After 18 years living in Washington Heights/Harlem, I moved to Crown Heights Brooklyn when my son, who I co-parent, was accepted to Yale...starting a new phase in his and our lives. I left Harlem after subtly, over time, becoming a contributor to its culture and vibe. DJ Stormin Norman started Sundae Sermon with DJs Cosi and me joining him as the original groove masters. Thanks to Lisa Yancey, DJ Damon Alston and me were the resident DJs for the Apollo Music Cafe, almost a decade ago! Shout out to Dwight Jordan and the Apollo Fam...still going strong, keeping on and on. I thought I died and went to heaven when Marcus Samuelsson's Red Rooster added me to their DJ roster where I would play 3x a week sometimes. First time in a long time (since Sylvia's), the Red Rooster restaurant in Harlem brought jobs, tourists and celebrities back to Harlem in droves in the early 20-teens. They keep on growing, Red Rooster is in the UK and recently opened in Miami. Lucky me, I got another turn at doing something on-going at the Apollo Theater when Bob Sumner had me join his vision for a comedy club experience at the Apollo in the Apollo Music Cafe. The Apollo Comedy Club was established in 2015 and will re-emerge in October 2021. The 1st 5 years were just the warm-up. A very special thanks to Glenn G-Man Holt, a Harlem born and raised man with a gift for bringing people together. My first true friend in New York City, my guide, my brother (RIP). Thanks to MamaSoul, I reminisced about Harlem and put together a set of Harlem influences on me. Her show, on WBAI 99.5 NYC, is called the Harlem Connection and she and her partners shine a light on the music, history and impact of the metropolis of Harlem. Here is the link to the entire episode with the interview + the mix + much more music, sounds and connections by the THC fam: https://wbai.org/archive/program/episode/?id=22515 https://linktr.ee/qooldjmarv
