Hi Guys! This is. very short episode which is something we never do really so we hope you all enjoy it.
Whether it's superheroes like The Avengers or slice-of-life cartoons in the New Yorker, comics capture our imaginations like no other art form. A few small panels can take us to another galaxy or show us life from someone else's point of view. Comics are not just for kids and are the perfect vehicle for anyone who wants to explore a new world. Saturday was Free Comic Book Day so we're talking to NPR editor and Nashville-based artist Malaka Gharib, whose work was included in the national promotion. We'll also be joined by other local illustrators about how they got into comics and how they tell stories through their unique art styles. Guests: Malaka Gharib, author and illustrator of I Was Their American Dream and the forthcoming It Won't Always Be Like This Anika Orrock, author and illustrator of The Incredible Women of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League Janet K. Lee, co-creator of Return of the Dapper Men, illustrator of Marvel Comics adaptations of Jane Austen's Emma and Northanger Abbey Scout Underhill, creator of DnDoggos web comic Daniel Pujol, co-creator of Salt Weekly zine and Thaw postcard comic
So everyone, it has been a long minute once again and it's crazy that we are now doing this all over again. You know it always feels weird when we do the recordings since there's always something happening within the bearded community. Drama always follows the bearded community even when it simmers down! We are back, but we will be recording only once per month, and there it just too much to share within the recording because we only have so much time really within our schedules. Santino and Rodney live in different states and too many projects are being worked on to connect.
In the latest episode, The Fanbase Weekly co-hosts welcome special guests Janet Lee (Eisner Award-nominated artist, Return of the Dapper Men, Emma) and Gabe Cheng (writer, The Problem with Parallels, Finding Molly) to discuss the latest geek news stories of the week, including looking back at the career of Ivan Reitman, Amazon's ComiXology overhaul and the backlash, Disnsey's "Storyliving," and the new story of Han and Leia's honeymoon.
New season of Offbeat Beards is finally here and you'll see a brand new evolution of the direction we are going at this point.
This was a cornucopia of content here because we covered a different range of topics this time around. It's funny that we are now just talking about the fear-mongering faux religious nonsense we are seeing in the bearded community along with the faux holistic people in the world of health. We talk about crypto again and it's funny how Santino contradicted himself about using apps such as Robinhood and others, another topic we had to talk about is people abusing the subject of 'Mental Health'.
We feel that season is becoming episodic in so many ways even though we are still talking about skincare and beardcare. The content per usual is all over the place, but it still melds together into a perfect mold.
The conversation starts off with Greenbird555 dealing with a hit and run which turned into a high-speed car chase within San Francisco! Collections we may have that should be treated with pristine care and maybe white-glove treatment.
A long delay of uploading has to an end for the moment. We discuss codes and affiliate links in the world of beardcare, but this goes for every niche imaginable.
So you guys may already know what has been happening so far if you have been paying attention to social media, and especially in particular on Greenbird555's TikTok and Instagram.
Greenbird555 talks about his attraction to women on a rare occasion at the beginning of this conversation, which brings us to this question "Does your significant other get jealous if someone else DMs you?" Have you ever noticed yourself leaning more towards unscented, and should you stay away from beard care products that may have corn starch? So many questions we just had to ask ourselves.
Growing out your beard there is always has a reason for yourself, but sometimes you can associate it with something else you have known; also with haven't talked about it publicly with friends/family. That’s what we talk about here in this recording.
Let's talk western and rugged stylized themed products. This is a big deal because we have our very first guest of honor with us and we couldn't be happier to share this with you all.
We've all heard the topic heard around the world called "The Insurecction" and we revisit how are you going to sell yourself as things dwindle down. Rodney's car decides to lose its power after grocery shopping and this was during a time when logging out of social media.
Sentence fillers are fun, but when you catch yourself using them 24/7 it's a drag with editing and you sound all over the place. Giving yourself a challenge you set out for when it comes to your grooming can be rather more time-consuming than anticipated.
It's true we are back and it's a strong sign that we are here to slay the game! You all know that we are so all over the place that we had to talk about the extreme nature of the stock market and insane impulse buys of $85 socks.
Should we have our own individual cloud for our own privacy sake, or should we just stick with the regular clouds we are all on? We discuss who is listening to us in foreign countries and it's awesome how much we are evolving.
Santino and I talk about how some big iconic Northern California staples are shutting down, and we talk about how Walmart is doing the most selling knockoff and fake brands!
We are back with another special edition episode where we revisit "Cannibalism" within the influencer world in all spectrums of niches. The response to the first episode was amazing and watching unfold now will hit the fan soon.
The week leading up to the big holiday was really all over the place because Rodney's mother totalled his dad's car a few days before which of course doesn't help make anything go smoothly. Santino and Rodney also go over beardcare fillers that people may be allergic to because a product was making one of your hosts flush!
This is our special Christmas episode where we share our thoughts on holiday-themed products and what skincare brands that have slight elements of the holiday spirit without being categorized like that.
*Note this was recorded back in September* This is part 2 of 2 and we now get into the subject of "The bearded community" being almost saturated with new businesses which is good and bad. Santino and I even talk about things we have been seeing pop such as "whole beard oil starter kits" which is a thing!
*Note* This was recorded back in September, 2020! We briefly talk about how the people who have helped us create our brand and of course we touch upon the bearded community in which the conversation does get random. We reel it in to get back on track as usual and something we thought was appropriate to talk about was adoption which is now totally new for one of your hosts Santino.
Thanksgiving and Friendsgiving has passed so now people are getting ready in full swing for the Black Friday Deals everywhere. We take an extreme detour from the current conversation and can't seem to get back on track with this one, but that's how shopping deals crumble beneath us. Something a lot of guys are asking themselves and to the bearded community is this "Is beardcare actually tactical and this marketing still working?"
We all know that the big holidays are coming our way now which is the biggest sign that the year about to end. The question we are asking ourselves "Who is actually giving back?" We also talk about luxury brands that have sold their formula's to elite luxury hotels and also a high-end brand that might be selling a gimmick?
So much has happened over the course of a few weeks and one of the things you need to ask yourself in terms of being a brand owner "How am I going to sell my brand now after this election?" This is something I have been wondering because we all know if you want to make it big you have to be somewhat open-minded and this goes for both sides of the parties. This is us we can't stay on one topic here since we side-bar constantly.
*Note* Episode was recorded back in late August, 2020. This is part 2 of this very long podcast, but this had some interesting detours because it's us! We don't even know how we got from iS Clinical products down to my crazy dreams about the dark web and even how YouTube is being very extra.
What's more annoying a brand that you loved, plus promoted for so long to get views, subs, likes, and followers for your own gain until that company decided to be mass-produced? That's what we are talking about in this 2 part episode because it's too long to be uploaded as one.
This is our Halloween Edition of our podcast! We just wanted to do something that suits the spirit of this spooky holiday and this is about the cannibalism within influencers
We talk about beard growth serums, matte finish skincare for men that won't give you a shine and of course just random topics because we get off track(hence our name Offbeat beards). Transitioning from one format to another is kinda hard so bare with us on this recording when we talk about our YouTube channels.
This is a introduction about us to our audience new and old. We talk about the what's going on in our lives along with some beardcare and skincare, but this episode is just about having fun with the conversation and going with the flow.

On a literally freezing New Orleans afternoon, looking fabulous despite braving icy steets and sidewalks, two dapper dudes and a fashion forward yogi warm up Happy Hour with talk of hot Buti yoga, hot jazz and soul, and hot off the presses. Four years ago Joseph Makkos responded to a Craig s List ad ... and ended up with 30,000 transparent plastic tubes, each containing a single edition of a New Orleans newspaper printed between 1888 and 1929. Joseph now manages that archive and hopes to partner with the first virtual carnival krewe to turn old newspapers into new media. He and C Rock team up to tell the story of the infamous "crazed New Orleans axe man" not the two year terrorization of New Orleans by a serial axe murderer, but the more interesting story of perhaps an early instance of fake news tune in He also reads a timely and absolutely poetic newspaper account of an 1885 New Orleans snow. Baye Tilson is a yoga instructor who likes "all the yogas" especially Buti and practices club level yoga at some of the hottest nightclubs in town. Baye says she doesn t not discriminate if someone wants to have a drink before or during yoga she s happy to open up the balcony. Her pomeranian hat inspired a Facebook request for details, but Baye couldn t buy it again if she tried her fashion sense leads her finds that can t be duplicated. Speaking of one of a kind, Andre Lovett is a singer songwriter whose influences range from 50s and 60s soul crooners to 90s RnB artists to Al Green and ... John Meyer who C Rock admits he thinks is a chump ... no disrespect, the Grateful Dead suck too . Andre sings a song he wrote in 2014 in Seattle just after an inspirational breakup, and a song he wrote after moving here in 2015. An exceptional singer songwriter and a beautiful dresser. April and C Rock guest host for Grant on C Rock s birthday and a week after April s happy birthday guys .
