It's time to get deep and talk music with another incredible artist. Today we have Ben Grey, the lead vocalist and guitarist of the LA-based indie rock band Dear Boy, joining us for a special episode of Hanging On Sunset. Dear Boy has been making waves in the indie music scene since their formation in 2011, with their dreamy, anthemic sound and influences from post-punk, new wave, and alternative rock. They've released several EPs and one full-length album, earning critical acclaim and a devoted following along the way. In this episode, Ben takes us on a journey through the band's story, from their early days to their latest release, "Forever Sometimes." We'll dive into the creative process behind their music, the challenges they've faced as a band, and what's next for Dear Boy. But this conversation went even deeper than just the music. Ben and I explored some philosophical subjects, discussing the meaning of life, the nature of creativity, and the importance of human connection. It was a conversation that went on for nearly 2 hours, and I was blown away by Ben's insights. Also, quick heads up for all you music lovers out there. Tomorrow night at Genghis Cohen, Ben Grey, lead vocalist and guitarist of Dear Boy, will be performing as a solo act. And let me tell you, you won't want to miss it. Not only is Ben a fantastic musician in his own right, but he's also opening for the incredible Scout Gillett, who we had the pleasure of interviewing on our podcast in our last episode. So if you're looking for a night of great music, be sure to head over to Genghis Cohen tomorrow night and catch Ben's solo performance and Scout's amazing set. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. Now sit back, relax, and get ready for an unforgettable episode of Hanging On Sunset with Ben Grey of Dear Boy. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/hangingonsunset/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/hangingonsunset/support
Today we read, Dear Boy, by Paris and Jason Rosenthal.
Ben Grey is a musician. Ben Grey is the vocalist and guitar player for Dear Boy. I first heard of Dear Boy through the grapevine of LA bands but then I had to tap in Austyn Hayman the other guitar player for Dear Boy for the WMH podcast. Austyn was different, but I didn't think that the rabbit hole of the Dear Boy universe would get bigger but it did. I met Ben Grey in Los Angeles at a show that Austyn played guitar for, then Ben's show at the legendary Hotel Cafe with Austyn. Next thing you know it, I extended my trip and saw Dear Boy open for The Psychedelic Furs. Dear Boy has been around but released their debut album, Forever Sometimes. If I get Lucy on, will it be Dear Girl? Please welcome Ben Grey to Wear Many Hats. instagram.com/benjamingrey instagram.com/dearboyofficial instagram.com/wearmanyhatswmh instagram.com/rashadrastam rashadrastam.com wearmanyhats.com dahsar.com
If you're looking for a singer who isn't afraid to be raw, honest, and unapologetic in their music, then you need to know about Scout Gillett. I got to watch her perform solo at the Zebulon towards the end of last year, and I was moved to tears. That doesn't happen a lot those days for me. Her latest album, "No Roof No Floor", is a testament to her journey as an artist and a singer. "When I'm recording a song, it's crucial for me to have a personal connection to it." Scout says. "I want to deliver an authentic performance, one that comes straight from the heart." This approach is evident in every track on the album, which showcases her powerful voice and emotional depth. But Scout isn't just about the music – she's also dedicated to making a positive impact on her community. As someone who has been trained in NARCAN, a program that provides education and resources to help people respond to opioid overdoses, Scout sees this as an opportunity to give back and make a difference. Tour life is where Scout truly shines, and she loves the energy and excitement of live audiences. "There's something magical about sharing your music with a live audience" she says. "It's a connection that can't be replicated." If you're in LA, you'll be able to witness that with your own soul because Scout is back on March 21st, on a very interesting bill put on by Sid The Cat, the best booker in town. Plus, she will be sharing the stage with Ben Grey, the leader of Dear Boy, who appears to be the next guest on our couch. https://scoutgillettmusic.bandcamp.com/ https://capturedtracks.com/artist/scout-gillett/ - Vincent Walter Jacob --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/hangingonsunset/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/hangingonsunset/support

After discussing his relative success with a moderately liberal programme in England last time, in this episode we talk about Palmerston's far greater difficulties abroad. There was another Opium War in China, as Britain fought to enforce the East India Company's right to push drugs there, and then an uprising in India, which Brits still like to think of as a mutiny though many Indians see it as a War of Independence. Both events involved extensive brutality, most of it by Britain, but Palmerston did just fine in the debates on both. The stumbling block proved to be something far less significant: a terrorist outrage in Paris by a man who'd had some connection with England. The French demanded that Palmerston take action, and he responded by proposing new legislation. That had seemed to many like kowtowing to the French, and the Opposition in parliament was able to engineer a victory in a vote against his government's behaviour. Oddly, that was on the very night after his victory over military action in India. One evening, he was victorious, the next he was out. Events, you see, events are the real killers in a statesman's existence. Illustration: Sepoy Mutiny, 1857 by Charles Granger, showing a scene from the 1857 Indian uprising. From Wikimedia Commons. Hello and welcome to season 2 episode 5 of Angel. Darla is back! Little twist though, she's human. Angel can smell his old sire a mile away, which she knows, and she uses that information to toy with her boy (her words). Are her games too complicated for the rest of Angel Investigations? Will we believe Angel is on the trail of his old partner in crime before we wrongfully assume he is slipping into a sleepy version of Angelus? Thanks for listening!

X:06 FUTURESPY series 2 continues in the fifth episode of a series-long story entitled “Convict X”! In this episode, “Dear Boy”, set 5 years before the previous episode, we meet Mr David Smith, mercenary. A confused man rebelling against himself. The fate of the Ivanov's is in his shaking hands. About X-06: FUTURESPY: X-06: FUTURESPY is the cult 1960's TV show that you can't remember because it never happened. Inspired by classic British spy and sci-fi telly of the sixties, X-06: FUTURESPY is deliberately presented as a “lost” old-fashioned period piece. The hisses and crackles you hear on this recording are quite deliberate, as low-fidelity is to be expected from audio retrieved by laser-accelerated spectography from a parallel universe 1966. You can READ, WATCH and LISTEN to FUTURESPY adventures. Check out https://x06futurespy.blogspot.com/ for details. Please follow us on Twitter Your comments, ratings, likes and shares are appreciated! Conversations with Dead People is back, and with hardly any time at all between episodes! Seriously, for all you could tell I recorded this episode the same night as our last one. Seamless! Hollywood hotshot Michael Holland is here and we share a few words about the Apple TV+ series The Afterparty, which debuted recently and for which Michael served as Post-Production Supervisor, before continuing our journey through Angel Season 2. “Untouched” introduces us to writer Mere Smith, who will go on to pen some of the finest episodes of the series, and here considers sexual agency and trauma from the angle of two different Wolfram & Hart “special projects.” Then, in “Dear Boy,” the Boreanaz and Benz chemistry boils through the subterranean convent roof. And lastly, “Guise Will Be Guise” as Angel goes to therapy and Wesley bluffs his way into Virginia. NEXT: our very own voice of the Watcher Council, the exceedingly British Wesley “Wezzo” Mead joins me to talk about episodes 207, “Darla,” 208, “The Shroud of Rahmon,” and 209, “The Trial.” BREAKDOWN 00:00:55 - Intro / Guest 00:21:41 - Main Topic 01:33:22 - Outro / Next MUSIC “Conversations (feat. Welcome to “The Elements of Being” podcast, where I dissect and explore the minds and habits of filmmakers, writers, and industry icons. Essentially, we learn what makes them flip the switch to achieve great feats, goals, and milestones and a chance to geek out over the psychology behind human behavior.Today, I interview Jason B. Rosenthal, an author, Foundation Board Chair, public speaker and lawyer. Moving the Fourth of July fireworks back to the Brooklyn Bridge for the first time since 2014 went off without any problems, although it did leave a few flames burning on the bridge after the fireworks were finished. It seemed to be the smoldering remains of the fireworks casings or leftover chemicals and not the infrastructure of the bridge itself. The FDNY fireboats stationed in the East River made quick work of the flames, holding back from using the full force of their water cannons so as not to damage the bridge. This was the 43rd annual Macy's fireworks display. According to data collected by the CDC, July begins the active season for West Nile infections, which are spread via mosquito bites, so now is the time to be prepared and protect yourself from mosquitoes if you will be outside. If you'll be traveling overseas, take special precaution to avoid mosquito bites, and consider a vaccination against diseases that are common in the areas where you will be traveling. If you're staying in the city, you can even do your part by calling 311 with a report of standing water, defined as a place on public or private property where water gathers and remains for more than five days, creating a habitat where mosquitoes may breed. 108 years ago on July 9th, 1911, the New York Times described how a streak of hot weather, with temperatures reaching 100 degrees during the beginning of July 1911, made it difficult to transport ice from insulated storage warehouses to the "Greeks and Italians who have little ice depots in convenient basements", where people found it more convenient than waiting for the ice delivery wagons.
