In this episode, host Kevin Weber discusses observations on novice umpires, a uniform checklist for camps and clinics, and answers several listener questions on Deep B vs Deep C, calling balls and strikes, and dealing with injuries. Kevin has been umpiring since his high school days, however, he's been working consistently in amateur baseball since 2006. His story is the tale of what umpire camps and perseverance can accomplish. Kevin demonstrates that the umpire camp route is an alternative to the professional umpire school path. His road to success has been through self-study, camps, and clinics, most notably Bruce Doane's camps. Kevin has attended the Doane February camp, 2-man advanced camp, and 3-man camp on multiple occasions. He also attended the CBUA 4-Man Invitation Clinic. Kevin has worked high school (MHSAA), JUCO (MCCAA), NAIA (WHAC/Crossroads), and NCAA Division I (MAC), II (GLIAC), and III (MIAA) contests. He also recently worked his first postseason collegiate games. Additionally, Kevin has twice worked the MHSAA State Finals (2015 & 2019). He is always trying to hone his umpire skills to continue moving up the umpiring ladder. Recently, Kevin took on an assignor role, assigning MHSAA games for the West Michigan Umpire Association and tournament and travel team games for the Grand Rapids Umpire Alliance. As the sound of thunder and deep atmospheric effects signal the start of CD2, Women Of Colour's ‘Elemental’ trickles through the speakers onto Deep C and Randall Jones’ percussion driven ‘The One’, with its smokey sax samples that ease the mood into a deep drop courtesy of Chris's studio partner Neil Kolo, whose solo project Nova marks a turning point in the cd, its deep and trippy percussion leading into a sublime break before driving straight into the hypnotic ‘Gasp’ by Dan Morris & Shylock. Chris's friend Steve Porter pops up once more with John Debo as we get 'Deported'. A bit of oriental flavour is sprinkled in from Hong Kong producer Tszpun as the mix moves subtly along and into Steve Porter's massive single ‘Nordica’ lifts the pace a few notches, as the tough, house chords and vocals of Coco Da Silva's ‘@Night’ erupt, you find yourself getting drawn in even deeper. John Graham and Steve Porter's ‘Two Days On Landsdown’, a track briefly unsigned at the time but which became a monster. Rounding off the cd we have one of Chris's favourite artists Angel Moraes with the tough I-Jack remix of ‘Turn It Up’ before the final track from Chris himself, ‘Losing Wait’ making sure you are in for the ride right till the end, an amazing end to an amazing cd.

Mysteries of the Deep, Chapter C. Space in the Sun by Sébastien Robert. Cover photo courtesy of Candace Price. Akio Suzuki constructed the Hinatabokko no kukan (Space in the Sun) in 1988. This space consists of two huge parallel walls, in between which the artist can sit all day and purify his hearing by listening to the reflected sounds of nature. This space leads the artist to discover a new method of listening. Suzuki himself comments, "Sound, which had been conceptually imprisoned in various spaces, is freed to circle the world." Just Come with Me! Here is what I got up to whilst travelling in Asia.. Deep House with a soft & sexy undertone, add a sprinkling of tech-house with a dash of hip-hop. The ambition of blending it all might have been betrayed by the execution but what the heck.. I had fun with this one. Join my journey and fly with me into the Deeper, sexy side. The set is melodic but eclectic and at times...challenging. It includes some original edits and two samples, which I could not identify (though I am sure some of you will), taken from C&M Production's sets. From 118 to 127 bpm, with loops , sliced beats, samples and change of keys We are travelling at the rather gregarious speed of sound (not the speed of light), towards a Deep n' Sexy climax... Just come with me ;) To consume at work, at home or for a long journey. It starts as a very accesible chill/lounge set but might challenge some listeners later into the mix. My advice, just let it roll and take you over. I had 3 hours of new tunes mixed ( all courtesy of the long flights to and from Australia), I will post the second part once I see how this one is received. As to the Aki Bergen jams ending the mix, they all point out to an artist producing faultless rich Deep gems... I have 2 sets lined up, the continuation of this one and the up-tempo mix I have been unable to wrap up for a month. I also have the vague outline of a trancy/house set, which I will have ready for the Xmas/NYE parties to come..
