When a baseball connects perfectly with the bat and sails over the fence, there's a special feeling that stays with you forever. That magical moment—one that Clearwater Little League board member Amanda Cole hopes every child experiences—sits at the heart of our latest conversation about youth sports, community building, and creating future leaders.Fresh off our successful fundraiser that raised $3,500 for the league, Amanda reveals what makes Clearwater Little League special beyond the typical base hits and strikeouts. With over 360 players each season, their programs extend far beyond traditional baseball, including six Challengers teams that provide children and adults with disabilities the opportunity to experience America's pastime. Every fall, they host the statewide Challenger jamboree, welcoming teams from across Florida for a weekend celebration of inclusive baseball.Behind the pristine fields and impressive facilities lies a volunteer-driven organization tackling significant challenges. Hurricane damage last season forced the closure of five fields, while annual expenses—including a surprising $10,000 just for baseballs—require continuous fundraising efforts. Yet through careful stewardship, registration fees remain remarkably affordable ($35 for T-Ball), ensuring financial barriers don't prevent participation. The league provides equipment for newcomers and creates a supportive environment where players can develop confidence while building relationships with caring adults.Amanda's vision for the future includes doubling their softball program and increasing female representation in coaching and umpiring roles. However, with seven fields already booked from afternoon until night throughout the season, community support through sponsorships (ranging from $600 to $25,000) and volunteering has never been more crucial to their continued growth.Whether you're looking to register a player, volunteer your time, or support youth development through sponsorship, visit clearwaterlittleleague.com today to discover how you can help build brave, honest leaders who care about their community both on and off the diamond.

What Fresh Hell: Laughing in the Face of Motherhood | Parenting Tips From Funny Moms
This month's Deep Dive series is all about helping our kids through hardships like making mistakes, getting rejected, and facing competition. Listen to the whole playlist on Spotify. Does competition have benefits? What level of competition is healthy for our kids? Many of us agree that the stereotypical dad yelling through the fence at T-Ball is taking things a little too seriously. But others say that participation trophies teach our kids to be lazy and therefore represent the ultimate downfall of our civilization. How do we balance the eye of the tiger with just letting our kids play? In this episode we get to the bottom of why some people are more competitive than others, what the right age is for kids to start learning the lessons of losing, and how competition (when it's done right) can actually teach cooperation and self-regulation. Here are links to some writing on the topic that we discuss in this episode: 'Shirtless Tongan' Pita Taufatofua makes Olympic history Evolution of competitiveness: Scientists explain diversity in competitiveness Byron Heath on Kerri Strug We love the sponsors that make this show possible! After their first team practice, Nikki & Brie are officially t-ball coaches! They're all in on motivating their young players, coming up with strategies to connect with their young players and have an impact on their lives. The season hasn't officially started, but it's reignited a competitive passion in both of them! They both reflect on amazing coaches from soccer and track in their past, the commitment those coaches had to empower young players and athletes, and how Nikki & Brie envision their own coaching careers might play out. Nikki realized that getting on the field as a coach has given her a new purpose that she's been missing. She rediscovered herself feeling lost in the first few years of motherhood and the steps she's taken to reconnect with herself over those three-and-a-half years and where Fearless Nicole fits into things. Nikki also opens up about how she seriously considered joining AEW, why she's holding off for now, and Brie's thoughts on returning to the rind as her tag partner. Brie went on a hike with Bryan to celebrate their 10-year anniversary, and there was something she saw on the trail that prompted her to turn around and cut the nature walk short. That decision allowed her to go swimming with Bryan and once again see how great he is at doing the dog paddle in the pool. To close out the episode, Coach Brie chooses a quote that exemplifies her philosophy as a t-ball coach. Call Nikki & Brie at 833-GARCIA2 and leave a voicemail! Nikki & Brie are back at the speakeasy, and they have a lot to celebrate in today's episode. They make a monumental announcement that's a HUGE payoff for all of their hard work, so they're officially kicking off the Cowgirl Era, and they're ready to Pop That Bottle. Brie's also celebrating 10 years of marriage with Bryan and contemplates going big for a gift or doing something more personal. They're also loved going on the NCAA Final Four ride with Caitlin Carter and they're impressed with what she's done, what's ahead of her, setting a new standard for women in sports, and how her impact can continue to grow at the next level. Nikki & Brie also spent a wild weekend in Phoenix partying at Wild Horse Pass at Gila River Casino in Chandler, AZ, seeing E-40 and Ice Cube perform, but Nikki & Brie might not be able to hang like they used to. Maybe it's Mercury Retrograde? The Garcia Twins also talk about the need for routine and recognizing what really makes them happy, a callback to the episode with Jason Tartick, and using that information to be comfortable saying “no,” and prioritizing their joy. Nikki & Brie are also about to embark on another new adventure that could put them to the test, they signed up to coach Buddy and Matteo's T-Ball team. and Buddy has already made it known that he's not happy about it at all. Brie is focused on being a great motivator for the team and Nikki's focused on looking like a coach and choosing the right outfits that let everyone on the team know that she's an authority figure. The biggest struggle so far has been choosing a team name. There's also a big debate on participation awards, medals, and trophies, but Nikki & Brie have their sights set on first place. Brie closes the episode out with her pick for Inspiration & Affirmation that brings her back to nature and enjoying your own definition of “life” more. At Duxbury High School, she not only thrived academically but also showcased her athletic prowess as a four-year varsity tennis athlete. Her love for algebra and a valuable life lesson from her Tball coach, "How do you catch a ball? With your eyes," shaped her mindset to keep her eye on the prize and pay attention to what's in front of her. Venturing into higher education, Tory pursued a Psychology major at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in upstate New York. Post-college, Tory set her sights on the bustling streets of New York City. Starting as an intern, she climbed the professional ladder, eventually becoming a business manager for an NBC News anchor/media coach. Her seven-year stint in the city was filled with growth, challenges, and unique experiences. In 2018, Tory returned to her roots in Duxbury, seeking a career with more flexibility. Inspired by her mother, a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker, Tory obtained her real estate license and has since thrived in the industry. Adding a touch of romance to her narrative, Tory is now married to the older brother of her best friend. A night at TSANG's with the family set the stage for a storybook romance as he slid into her DMs, and the rest is history. Join us as we discuss ensuring one's value, navigating the power broker in your head, conspiracy theories, speed skating, and, as always, sprinkles of humor. And what's even the point of all of these activities? All that juice and more.

T-Ball caused a fight between Erik & a preacher. Pray for him.
He is entering his eighth year as Assistant Baseball Coach at DeMatha Catholic High School near Washington, DC, having been the freshman head coach for two of his years there. He has also worked as Sports Information Director at Catholic University, which is also near our nation's capital. His career in sports has also included work as a journalist, covering NBA games in DC. More recently, he coached T-Ball for eight years, coached 10-and-under basketball, and along the way picked up a Coach of the Year honor. This all followed his having been a student-athlete back in his high school days. Listen for the physical challenge he overcame to play four different sports!

He estimates he played on 40 teams from T-Ball to the Big Leagues and was the best player on about 10 of those teams. If that's the case, how did Ryan Spilborghs make an MLB roster and spend over a decade in professional baseball? Because he just kept chasing the dream. He knew if he kept going, others would fade away and he'd still be there. “Spilly” was born in Santa Barbara and stayed close to home for his college baseball career, mostly because all the other schools wanted him to walk on. At UC Santa Barbara, he was on scholarship, but quickly realized the work he needed to put in to actually play. In 2002, the Colorado Rockies drafted him in the 7th round thanks to a Rockies' scout (Billy Eppler, now GM of the NY Mets) who was in Long Beach for some surfing and happened to watch Ryan hit an improbable home run for the Gauchos against Long Beach State. From there he toiled in the Rockies' minor league system for a few years and made trusting friendships with guys he'd eventually play with in The Show, like Troy Tulowitzki, Garrett Atkins and Corey Sullivan to name a few. Spilly made his MLB debut on July 16, 2005. He played one game and was back to AAA. He returned in 2006 and hit his first home run. In 2007 he was an integral part of the Rockies' crazy regular season ending and playoff run which brough them to the World Series. After becoming a free agent in 2011, Spilly knocked around a few other teams including internationally for a couple years. In 2014, he joined the Rockies TV Broadcast crew as an analyst, a gig he still enjoys today, along with being a dad to two and husband to Stacey. Follow Spilly on Twitter @SpillyGoat19
