Lexington Herald Leader sportswriter and columnist John Clay is set to retire at the end of this month. He discussed career highlights and challenges he's encountered over the past 4 decades of serving Big Blue Nation. Is Stoops cooked? Will Pope's players get all of the NIL money? We also discussed the challenges for other universities dividing $20.5 million for all of their sports teams. How much will football demand? Will basketball have enough to build a Top 5 roster? What about baseball? Will women's sports survive with this new payment cap?
11 Personnel is a show for the people and today it is also by the people. KSR's resident football guys are taking any and all questions from our friends at KSBoard. Anything and everything is on the table. Up first, “How motivated is Mark Stoops?” In addition to Kentucky football talk, Mr. Luckett dove deep into the numbers to find you winners for this weekend's PGA Championship at Quail Hollow. Mr. Roush got one week of horse racing reprieve and has combed through the past performances to forecast the second leg of the Triple Crown. It could be a profitable weekend for Big Blue Nation.

We are on the eve of February 1st which means we are getting closer to March! Looking back at last weekend to start the show with the Kansas Jayhawks having an ALL-TIME choke job in Allen Fieldhouse in a double OT loss to Houston. UNC and Duke add another chapter their historic rivalry and we breakdown that game on Saturday night. At about 12:25, we hear from our guy Rick Pitino with his message to Big Blue Nation with John Calipari making his return to Rupp. How do we feel the Kentucky fans should welcome him back? Then at the 24:10 mark, Rhymetime hit the road to check out the Cintas Center and the electric Xavier and UConn game. He takes us into the Cintas Center with a review on the arena and what the atmosphere was like. And then to finish the show, the Ohio State basketball team is ROLLIN' and they have a battle with Illinois on Sunday. We talk about what areas they have been exceling at during this win streak, and how they can go into Champaign and pick up another road win.
Day 11 in the winter transfer portal window did not disappoint. Nick Roush and myself are ready to talk about it on this week's second episode of 11 Personnel. Kentucky lost a top tailback to Missouri on Wednesday night, but saw three transfer targets commit to the program when Oklahoma wide receiver J.J. Hester, Incarnate Word quarterback Zach Calzada, and Illinois tight end Henry Boyer all became members of the Big Blue Nation. Plus some new weekend visitors have emerged. There is a lot to discuss. Zach Calzada time in the Bluegrass Why the transfer QB could work at Kentucky Moving from Ahmad Hardy to Dante Dowdell Are Kendrick Law (Alabama WR) and Evan Wibberley (WKU iOL) on commit watch? Two EDGE targets come into focus More roster attrition
Kentucky is leaning into the transfer portal and there's a lot to discuss. Thankfully, 11 Personnel is here to make sense of it all for Big Blue Nation. After a quiet week on the quarterback front, two targets emerged on Monday, Maalik Murphy and Zach Calzada. 11 Personnel shares what each player brings to the table to see how they might help Bush Hamdan's maligned offense. That is just a small snippet of what's on the docket for today's jam-packed show. -- Strong start to offensive line recruiting -- Potentially good news at RB? -- Who is on Commitment Watch? -- New names to monitor

Blake Lovell, Chris Lee, and Max Barr discuss and rank all 16 SEC basketball teams after Week 2 of the 2024-25 season. Topics include: Alabama drops their first of the season in a thriller at Purdue. The Tide have not looked like the juggernaut we expected, which partially can be attributed to the absence of Chris Youngblood. Arkansas bounced back from the Baylor loss with a gritty win over a respectable Troy squad. The defense has been elite while the Razorbacks await the health of Jonas Aidoo & Johnell Davis. Auburn has been a machine to this point so far, KenPom's No. 1 team. The emergence of Chaney Johnson has been impressive to go alongside Johni Broome. Florida picks up a big win over Florida State in the Gators' first true road game of the season. Walter Claytor Jr has looked the part as a top-3 player in the SEC. Kentucky takes down Cooper Flagg and Duke for one of the best wins of any team so far. A balanced & experienced squad, Mark Pope has Big Blue Nation reenergized for the 24-25 season. LSU goes to Kansas State and controls the whole game for an impressive non-conference statement. Matt McMahon's recruiting class may be one of the most underrated classes in the SEC this year. Ole Miss quiets the critics with a thrashing of Colorado State. Both Matt Murrell and Dre Davis returned from injuries. Mississippi State has been of the most fun teams of the season so far. The new perimeter oriented Bulldogs completed an important comeback over Utah with Josh Hubbard shining, per usual. Oklahoma has been struck with a few injuries early and haven't played a quality opponent yet, making it hard to evaluate the Sooners. South Carolina drops an ugly one to Indiana with Collin Murray-Boyles having a rough day. There's a few important opportunities left in the non-conference for the Gamecocks. Tennessee has also been a machine, destroying an Austin Peay team that won at Butler already. Igor Milicic has been dominant and Zakai Zeigler is facilitating at a career high rate. Texas A&M bounces back against a quality Ohio State squad without the help of Jace Carter. Zhuric Phelps has been fantastic, but an absolute gauntlet awaits the Aggies ahead. Vanderbilt and Mark Byington have looked quite impressive so far, beating a Cal team that just won on the road at USC. Tyler Tanner is a name to keep an eye on. Mark Pope on how the Big Blue Nation is pulling together; Travis Perry on the excitement huge crowds bring to Rupp Arena; (12:00) a major NBA award for an ex-Cat (no, it's not a lamp); (19:00) CL Brown of the Courier-Journal on how things are coming together both for U of L and UK hoops; (39:00) Unforgettable guard Sean Woods on the challenges facing today's college coaches AND (1:01:00) West End Bureau Chief Gary Moore on the NFL Draft and more…
Mark Pope's first press conference as the head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats could not have gone better, helping raise the vibes in Big Blue Nation. Support from former UK coach Rick Pitino didn't hurt either, and it sounds like Kentucky and Saint John's will square off at Rupp Arena this season in what should be a huge treat for folks in Lexington.Pope may have killed the press conference, but now he needs to go to work building a roster which has seen multiple players leave via the transfer portal - including Aaron Bradshaw to Ohio State and Zvonimir Ivisic to Arkansas - as well as a handful of commits in the 2024 class. Can Pope convince any of them to stay committed to Kentucky? Can he somehow get Reed Sheppard to return to Lexington for another year? Or will he add any of the multiple players from BYU who are in the portal? Finally, we close the show discussing Tramon Mark moving from Arkansas to Texas and the subsequent moves by Dillon Mitchell and Tyrese Hunter to enter the transfer portal and what that means for Rodney Terry's team as they move into the SEC next year.Join the Locked On College Basketball Discord: https://discord.gg/bsKxDp8Qqb Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

The BYU Cougars are without a men's basketball coach as Mark Pope is finalizing a five-year contract to replace John Calipari as the University of Kentucky men's basketball coach and Jake Hatch says this is Pope's "dream job" and likely the only one he would have left Brigham Young University (BYU) for as he is a Kentucky Wildcats legend and former national champion for.Jake then talked about the options for BYU men's basketball program as they look to replace Pope with his top candidate pool consisting of California Golden Bears coach Mark Madsen, Utah Runnin' Utes associate head coach Chris Burgess and UNLV Runnin' Rebels assistant coach Barrett Peery and Jake explains why time is of the essence for BYU to make a hire. Finally, the show wrapped up with some thoughts on how the roster being in flux for the BYU basketball program could hurt the momentum Mark Pope built in the Cougars' debut season in the Big 12 Conference and why a prompt hire of his replacement could be the difference between contending in the Big 12 next season or being a cellar-dweller in the league.Join the Locked On Cougars Subtext Community by clicking here! Mark Pope is officially the new head coach for the Kentucky Wildcats, replacing John Calipari and leaving Big Blue Nation caught off guard. Can the former BYU coach and UK alumnus recruit well enough in Lexington to lead this program back to the Final Four? Or will Pope's lack of NCAA Tournament success lead to a quick tenure with the 'Cats?Kentucky reportedly made little contact with current Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan and no contact with Rick Pitino, a sign Pop was their top choice after Scott Drew and Danny Hurley said no. Pope does have a modern offense that should do well at Kentucky, and won 23 games in the Big 12 last year, but the timing of this hire is not doing him any favors with the fan base.Join the Locked On College Basketball Discord: https://discord.gg/bsKxDp8Qqb Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

Scott Drew had a meal in Waco on Wednesday and Big Blue Nation had a field day while rumors about the Baylor coach taking over Kentucky from John Calipari. Is Drew the right guy to take over in Lexington, and does he want to leave a Bears program he helped build from the ground up? Plus Kentucky's offer to Danny Hurley and interest in Billy Donovan.Calipari had his first press conference as the head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks, and addressed his team meeting - without having much of a team as nearly everyone is in the transfer portal. Who from the Hogs might come back, and who might coach Cal nab from the 'Cats? Cyril Somto is the latest 2024 recruit decommitting from Kentucky, will they all head to Fayetteville? We close discussing Mason Gillis and Ethan Morton hitting the transfer portal out of Purdue and what role they could have had for the Boilermakers, while also discussing a handful of NBA draft declarations: Yves Missi, Isaiah Collier, and the Marquette pair of Tyler Kolek and Oso Ighodaro.Join the Locked On College Basketball Discord: https://discord.gg/bsKxDp8Qqb Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…
With Scott Drew turning down the Kentucky job, will Big Blue Nation find a candidate they will get behind? Another pro franchise looking for a new home won't be coming to Portland...and update on Ohtani's interpreter and would Scottie Scheffler really leave Augusta if his wife makes the call?
On today's show we discuss John Calipari dropping a farewell video to Big Blue Nation as Mitch Barnhart makes it official that Cal is leaving Kentucky. Could the Cats already be targeting Baylor coach Scott Drew as their next head coach? Do they still consider Billy Donovan and Sean Miller? Also we catch up with Tye Richardson of Arkansas sports radio and HitThatLine.com as he talks about the Razorback perspective in turning the page from Eric Musselman and preparing to hire John Calipari. How excited are Hog fans? What resources will Cal get in Fayetteville? We break it all down on Locked On SEC. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The BYU Cougars have and will continue to have major questions asked about their quarterback situation in the 2024 season as they deal with the fallout of the latest whiff on the recruiting front, but Jake Hatch took some time to address the concerns as best he can and lend some insight into what Kalani Sitake, Aaron Roderick and the BYU football program may do to fix things.Jake then dug into the latest hea's heard about BYU basketball coach Mark Pope in relation to the head coaching vacancy with the Kentucky Wildcats and while Jake harbors doubts about Pope's ability to be hired in Lexington, crazier things have happened and Brigham Young University (BYU) will need to keep an eye on the situation as it evolves in the coming days. Finally, the show wrapped up with a look back at the 1926 season for the BYU football program as head coach C.J. "Chic" Hart hoped to parlay a relatively successful 1925 campaign into sustained success, but instead found how quickly things could go south despite two breakthroughs for BYU against archrivals Utah and Utah State interspersed in a tough season. Kentucky basketball needs to hire one of these three coaches. On today's episode of Locked On Kentucky, Lance Dawe discusses the updated Kentucky basketball coaching search now that Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nate Oats is out of the conversation. UConn Huskies head coach Dan Hurley said no to the Kentucky job, but has yet to talk with the Kentucky Wildcats about the position. Billy Donovan of the Chicago Bulls may be about to embark on an NBA playoffs run. Scott Drew of the Baylor Bears could be a good candidate... but Big Blue Nation does not seem too excited. Dawe also discusses John Calipari's final goodbye to Kentucky. Now that he's gone, Mitch Barnhart needs to find a head coach, and fast.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!RobinhoodRobinhood has the only IRA that gives you a 3% boost on every dollar you contribute when you subscribe to Robinhood Gold. The College Basketball Experience (@TCEonSGPN) of the Sports Gambling Podcast Network give out their opinions on the move John Calipari made leaving Kentucky to become the Head Coach of Arkansas Basketball.. On the show Colby Dant (@TheColbyD), Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac), and Noah Bieniek (@NoahB77_) describe what happened and what the future holds for Arkansas and Kentucky. There was some help from Trey Townsend, Jack Gohlke, Greg Kampe, and Oakland, but Southern Methodist University was somehow the first domino to fall. As they move to the ACC in the 2024-25 academic calendar year, SMU's athletic aspirations are in the clouds. The Mustangs fired their 20-win head coach Rob Lanier in order to acquire a coach with high major head coaching experience. SMU shot for the stars and plucked USC's sitting head coach Andy Enfield. After five tournament appearances and an Elite 8 with USC Andy Enfield migrates to the Dallas Fort Worth area. The University of Southern California then conducted their own coaching search. It was rumored that Eric Musselman had burned some bridges in Fayetteville and was actively looking for a new place to call home. His wife is from the LA area, thus USC was a nice place for him and his family to land. After two Elite 8s and a Sweet Sixteen with Arkansas, the Muss Bus was USC bound.Lastly, Arkansas began their coaching search. First, the Razorbacks attempted to pick up Kansas State's Head Coach Jerome Tang but Tang reportedly turned them down. Then, with the help of their wealthy boosters, Arkansas was able to persuade Kentucky Head Coach John Calipari to become their next head coach. After 14 seasons with Big Blue Nation, Calipari darted to Fayetteville in search of more support and job security. To finish the show Dant, Mac, and Bieniek spitball some possible candidates to be Kentucky's next coach. Did Nate Oats already say no to the Wildcats? Could Rick Pitino finish off his career in Lexington? Is Scott Drew the favorite to land the position? How good of a fit could Bruce Pearl be? Has Mark Pope done enough to deserve a call to fill in the blank? The trio discusses all of the possibilities and more on The College Basketball Experience.=====================================================Support us by supporting our partnersGametime code SGPN - Download the Gametime app, create an account, and use code SGPN for $20 off your first purchase - https://gametime.co/Underdog Fantasy code SGPN - 100% Deposit Match up to $100 - https://play.underdogfantasy.com/p-sgpnDiscuss with fellow degens on Discord - https://sg.pn/discordSGPN Merch Store - https://sg.pn/storeDownload The Free SGPN App - https://sgpn.appCheck out SGPN.TVADVERTISE with SGPNInterested in advertising? After two Elite 8s and a Sweet Sixteen with Arkansas, the Muss Bus was USC bound. Lastly, Arkansas began their coaching search. The trio discusses all of the possibilities and more on The College Basketball Experience. ===================================================== Support us by supporting our partners Gametime code SGPN - Download the Gametime app, create an account, and use code SGPN for $20 off your first purchase - https://gametime.co/ Underdog Fantasy code SGPN - 100% Deposit Match up to $100 - https://play.underdogfantasy.com/p-sgpn Discuss with fellow degens on Discord - https://sg.pn/discord SGPN Merch Store - https://sg.pn/store Download The Free SGPN App - https://sgpn.app Check out SGPN.TV ADVERTISE with SGPN Interested in advertising? Locked On Zags - Daily Podcast On Gonzaga Bulldogs Basketball
Mark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs are reportedly in contact with Georgetown guard Rowan Brumbaugh after he entered the NCAA transfer portal. Brumbaugh is a 6'4 combo guard who shot 37% from three last year and who had previously spent a year at Texas redshirting before joining the Hoyas. The Zags don't have a bunch of playing time to go around, but Brumbaugh could be a valuable bench piece before stepping into a starting role in 2025-26 once Ryan Nembhard and Nolan Hickman graduate.Coach John Calipari is leaving the Kentucky Wildcats to take over for Eric Musselman at Arkansas, a shocking development that has ripple effects throughout college basketball, including potentially impacting Gonzaga's six-year series with the Wildcats. Could Scott Drew, Nate Oats, Mark Pope, or even Tommy Lloyd take over for Big Blue Nation? Finally, we close out the show discussing Oumar Ballo hitting the transfer portal out of Arizona and what it means for the Wildcats, and why he's not a fit to return to Spokane for his final season of eligibility.FANDUEL DISCLAIMER: 21+ in select states. Kentucky basketball has been upset again in the NCAA tournament. This time at the hands of Jack Gohlke and the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. On today's episode of Locked On Kentucky, Lance Dawe recaps the Kentucky Wildcats vs the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in March Madness. UK struggled to create separation early on in the game thanks to the insane shooting of Jack Gohlke, and could not close down the stretch. Dawe discusses the struggles of Reed Sheppard, Rob Dillingham, and the overall lack of success grabbing rebounds and hitting shots against a worse team. There needs to be change for Kentucky basketball. John Calipari needs to be evaluated over the next few weeks. Should he and his staff still be coaching for Big Blue Nation, or is it time to move on?Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!ManscapedGet 20% Off and Free Shipping with the code LOCKEDON at Manscaped.com.Bettor TogetherDownload the Bettor Together DFS app now from the app store, and sign-up using promocode LOCKEDON for a chance to win your share of over $1,000 in cash prizes.Amazon Fire TVFire TV recently created Fire TV Channels to deliver a constant supply of the latest videos from your favorite sports brands, all for free. On today's episode of Locked On Kentucky, Lance Dawe discusses Zvonimir Ivisic's debut for Kentucky basketball. He went off against the Georgia Bulldogs and prompted Big Blue Nation to get extremely excited about how the season may turn out. With already one of the best offenses in the country - thanks to Antonio Reeves, Rob Dillingham, Reed Sheppard and the gang - how high is Kentucky's ceiling now with Big Z?
