Watch Unlock the Power of Color to Create Standout Style in Midlife Here: https://www.styleguidesociety.com/color Enclothed cognition is a term used to describe the psychological effects that clothing has on the wearer. It suggests that what we wear can have a significant impact on our self-image, emotions, and performance. This theory was developed by Adam Hajo and Adam D. Galinsky in 2012 in their study “Enclothed Cognition.” The concept of enclothed cognition states that the symbolic meaning of what we wear can affect our psychological processes, such as self-esteem and confidence. This means that when someone puts on a piece of clothing, they may feel empowered or successful due to its connotations. Furthermore, research has shown that clothes which are associated with higher social status can increase feelings of power and motivation. The concept of enclothed cognition has been used in a number of studies to examine how clothing affects performance. For example, researchers have looked at the effect that uniforms may have on students' academic performance and found that wearing a uniform had a positive influence on achievement. Similarly, another study found that wearing formal business attire had a positive effect on people's negotiation skills. These findings suggest that clothing can have a powerful psychological impact, as well as an aesthetic one. Wearing clothes which you feel comfortable and confident in can help to improve your self-esteem, performance, and overall wellbeing. So don't forget to dress for success! Not only can your clothing help you to look the part, but it can also make a difference in how you feel and perform. I use the science behind enclothe congition in my style coaching practice on various aspects as we design their life and style for their next level of success.
I went to high school with a girl who grew up in a Christian home singing at church. Eventually, that talented singer became more well-known and started singing on bigger stages. She felt shy about unleashing her “sensual” side and needed a way to overcome her trepidation of performing sexy dance moves. So she created an alter ego, Sasha Fierce, to bring out her more assertive side. Every time she stepped on stage she stepped INTO Sasha Fierce so she could fully express herself like the performer she wanted to be. Several years later, Beyonce released her album I am Sasha Fierce. The transformation was complete - she had BECOME Sasha. There was no longer a separation between her and her alter ego. Whether she realized it or not, Beyonce was using the power of “enclothed cognition”, the term in psychology which refers to the influence that clothes have on the wearer's psychological processes. There's also “embodied cognition”, the influence our physical shape (posture, pose) has on our consciousness. This is why we take the shape of warriors and birds in yoga class - so we can embody the qualities of strength, freedom and courage. That's also why it's so fun to dress up for Halloween. And why so many women LOVE to wear sexy outfits - so they can give themselves full permission to be the sensual, attractive and magnetic person they long to be. Enclothed and embodied cognition are just a few of the “hacks” we can use to transform our identity to become our desired future selves. The more we understand the invisible forces that shape our lives, the more we can use them to create the changes we want. I've been studying the science of change for the last 10 years (not counting a psychology degree before that). I'm bringing together the most effective tools and practices for becoming the person who is LIVING your dream in The Pleasure Project Program. You'll spend the first 6 months of 2023 learning, practising and mastering the concepts and tools to change your brain, unstuck yourself and build better habits. Then with my help, you'll design a 3 month Pleasure Project to create the change you most want to make. After 90 days you WILL be a different person. YOUR version of Sasha Fierce. Because the funny thing is, Beyonce was ALWAYS Sasha Fierce. She just hadn't yet developed the confidence and courage to be her most authentic self. Maybe you haven't either. Think what would be possible if you let your real self shine. Join The Pleasure Project Program and discover what's possible. 2023 can be YOUR breakthrough year.

Series 5 Episode 5 Welcome to Season Five Episode Five of Lushea Wonders Why Podcast. Season Five is fused with discussions based on ‘Attitudes and Behaviours' adding some extra food for thoughts with Collaborations outside and inside the UK. Michael Brown AKA Randy from Big Brovaz is an award winning writer and performer from the British R&B group named ‘Big Brovaz', whom is from the UK-London. Michael shares his thoughts and opinions and stories on the impacts and ways in which clothing impact his way thinking. How we dress professionally and personally can create a status and/or perception about ourselves and others. How we choose to wear our clothing can hinder, inspire or create judgements, change our thought in thinking also know as ‘Enclothed Cognition'. The underline focus links to our frame of mind ,and if we value ourselves internally or externally. Clothing can impact how we feel and it can affect our confidence, attitude or dictate power and respect. Nevertheless, the importance of not losing yourself, regarding whatever you choose to wear, keeping your integrity can provide self-validation, and allows you to be approachable. Words enhances our feelings but so can what we wear do also. Social media is fast paced, and can dominate many in what is the trend. “look good, feel great” is a psychological process that includes the choice in how we behave ( based on what we wear and how we are perceived in it). But does what we wear measure the intelligence we have as an individual or does it carry a good false pretence. Nevertheless, life is not easy and so what we choose to wear can hinder or hurt us also. Enclothed cognition is an intense topic. Our discussion is blunt but factual- Hope you enjoy! Kara Goucher's book Strong: A Runner's Guide to Boosting Confidence and Becoming the Best Version of You was published by Blue Star Press in 2018. In the name of full disclosure, Blue Star Press was kind enough to provide us a free copy to review. Kara Goucher is one of the USA's most decorated, and most recognizable female runners. She has a long list of accomplishments both on the track and on the road and has been on the US Olympic team in 2012 and 2016. Her book aims to help other athletes boost their self-confidence using the same sports psychology techniques that she used during her career. Kara doesn't claim to BE a sports psychologist, but rather she recognizes that many runners deal with confidence issues, and wants to share techniques that were helpful for her. The techniques Kara provides in the book are:· Positive self-talk· Mantra· Setting goals· Enclothed cognition· Power pose· Visualization· Power words· Social connection This book has limited theoretical backgrounds about each individual technique, but this is not the goal of the book anyway. It provides questions and exercises to guide the reader in applying the technique and provides examples from Kara Goucher's own confidence journal as examples. Kara also has other female athletes (Molly Huddle and Emma Coburn, to name a couple) contribute their own struggles and ideas about confidence, and it really shows how the elites struggle with the same demons as we do. Kara tells us how she used to feel like she didn't belong when she would line up to run high caliber races. In this episode, your hosts interview Catriona Tassell, an expert on sustainability in fashion, about enclothed cognition. Catriona is a graduate of the London College of Fashion, who has collaborated with Kering and the Centre for Sustainable Fashion, and is a sustainable fashion leader for the Copenhagen Youth Fashion Summit. Enclothed cognition describes the influence the clothes you wear have on your psychological processes. It was the first scientific research to show just how important clothing is to our everyday lives and impacts how we think, feel and behave. Catriona discusses her research on enclothed cognition, particularly on the effect that wearing sustainable clothing has on our moods and feelings. The discussion touches on: Why does this matter? How does psychology add to the conversation about fashion? And how can all of this influence the sustainability of the fashion industry? Thanks for listening! We’d love to hear from you. Keeping Attention: A Bored Mind Says NO! It is common sense to realize you have to keep your audience's attention in order to persuade them. If you lose them, you lose your chance for them to understand and accept your proposal. We know from our own personal experience that we tend to let our minds naturally drift when we are listening to other people. We cannot focus on one item for too long unless we are forced to do so. Master Persuaders can make a person want to pay attention and stay focused. You may lose your audience’s attention from time to time but it is your job to bring them back to full attention status. You can help your prospect lose track of time. Some estimate that the average adult attention span is about 18 minutes. What’s more, studies indicate that attention spans have been decreasing steadily over the past decade. After our attention span is lapsed, we fall into boredom and no longer listen. You have to be creative to maintain the mental involvement that is required to persuade a mind. One way to keep the mind harnessed is to give your audience enough time to process what you are telling them. You can tell by the look in their eyes if you have lost them. I'm sure you have taken seminars or college classes where you have been completely lost. When the professor asks questions, you don't raise your hand because you have no idea what is going on. Give your listeners enough time to absorb what you're saying, but obviously not so long that they become totally bored and detached. Some more ideas on ways to help people choose to pay attention: •Use questions •Make startling statements •Use quotes •Change mediums •Speak in the first person •Present new and innovative ideas You can see that these techniques are used to grab back the attention of your listeners when their minds have started wandering. Employed properly they will bring your audience’s attention back to you.
