One of the big acts on the 80's glam metal scene was Cinderella. Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tom Keifer and bassist Eric Brittingham formed the band in suburban Philadelphia. Gene Simmons of Kiss tried to get the band a deal with PolyGram, but was unsuccessful at getting the label to take interest. Jon Bon Jovi was more successful with getting them a contract with Mercury/Polygram Records. Keifer and Brittingham added guitarist Jeff LaBar and drummer Jim Drnec to the band. Their debut album entitled Night Songs was released in 1986, and it achieved triple platinum status. Shortly after the recording of that album, Jim Drnec left the group. This, their follow-up album Long Cold Winter, would continue the band's progression in the glam metal genre, but would see a subtle shift towards more blues rock. It would also see the introduction of Fred Coury as drummer for the group, though this would come after the album was recorded utilizing percussionist Cozy Powell for almost all tracks on the album. This second studio album would be a commercial success as well, reaching number 10 on the US charts and achieving double platinum status before the end of the year. The album included the rock ballad “Don't Know What You Got (Till It's Gone),”which would reach number 12 on the Billboard charts, the highest charting single for the band. Video was a significant factor in the success of the band, and they released a video compilation in 1990 called “Tales from the Gypsy Road” featuring their promo videos and live medleys.Cinderella would be predominantly an opening band through the late 80's and early 90's, touring with Poison, Bon Jovi, and David Lee Roth. Unfortunately the band would decline by the mid 90's due to various setbacks and drama with personnel as well as shifting popularity in the music industry. Their last performance was in 2014.Break out the hair spray as Wayne leads us through this album. Bad Seamstress Blues/Fallin' Apart at the SeamsThe leading track to the album starts with an acoustic blues number paired with a heavier blues song, complete with slide guitar and harmonica. The lyrics are of a life that has come full circle. No regrets, but a mixture of success and sorrow. “Look in the mirror at what I found, It's just the past and it's over now.”Gypsy RoadThese lyrics discuss perseverance to achieve success, but also the loneliness and doubt that come with realizing that dream. The song is a composite of a life on the road, complete with hotel rooms and overnight rides on the tour bus. This song hit number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100.Take Me BackThe final song on the album features blues instrumentation including the slide guitar and more cow bell! The lyrics reflect on a younger life from a distance. The singer reminisces about how he was raised and wanting to be reminded of what he left behind. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Axel F (Main Theme from the motion picture “Beverly Hills Cop”)This movie from the mid-80's made its debut on network TV this month. STAFF PICKS:Electric Blue by IcehouseLynch gives us a cool start to the staff picks with Australian band Icehouse's biggest US hit. The lyrics tell the tale of a man pursuing the love of a woman who seems above his station. “Icehouse” is an Aussie slang term for an insane asylum. This song was written by lead singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Iva Davies, and Jon Oates of Hall & Oates fame.Heaven Tonight by Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising ForceBruce features neoclassical metal guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen paired with the vocals of former Rainbow and Deep Purple front man Joe Lynn Turner. This is off Malmsteen's fourth studio album, “Odyssey.” This album went to number 40 on the Billboard 200 charts, the highest charting Malmsteen album to date.Wait by White Lion Rob brings us a power ballad that peaked at number 8 on the US charts in May 1988. It was originally released in June 1987, but did not enter the charts until February 1988, based on the strength of their video on MTV. The video featured Christie Muhaw who died at the age of 24 in a car accident less than a year after the video was released.Damn Good by David Lee RothWayne's staff pick continues the blues focus with a power ballad from Roth and 12-string work by virtuoso Steve Vai. The lyrics were inspired by an encounter Roth had with an old high school friend who had some high school pictures. It is a wistful song remembering friends and good times from the past. NOVELTY TRACK:Killer Klowns by The DickiesWe close out this week's podcast with a track of punk rock's The Dickies. This is off their EP and the movie "Killer Klowns from Outer Space. "

On this episode of Roger the Wild Child Show: Nashville, we are joined by original keyboardist of Iron Maiden and Cutting Crew, Tony Moore and Bassist for Bret Michaels Band, Stormin' Norman Voss!TONY MOORETony's musical career began when he moved from his hometown of Bristol to London after answering an advert in a music magazine for an early lineup of the group, IRON MAIDEN, where he took on the role of keyboard/synth player. The band were unknown at that point and Tony worked and rehearsed with them for some time until, after playing their first live show together, he felt keyboards didn't really work in the band and decided to leave. After quitting Iron Maiden, Tony teamed up with Brian James (from The Damned) to form a group called Tanz Der Youth, recording one single called “I'm Sorry I'm Sorry” for Radar Records (home of Elvis Costello). Although a short-lived line-up, the band toured opening for The Stranglers, and Black Sabbath as well as being at the forefront of the New Wave movement in London where they were also championed by the legendary John Peel. In the early 80's, Tony formed a band as a vehicle for his singing and songwriting talents, called Radio Java. He signed to Carrerre Records and they made an album at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. From that album, they scored an airplay hit in Holland at Xmas 1983 with a song called FOOL. In the Mid 80's Tony joined the band CUTTING CREW (“I just died in your arms tonight”). With the band, he toured the world including playing massive US shows opening for Huey Lewis, Starship, and the Bangles as well as doing many headline gigs. They were the first Western band to play to an audience allowed to dance and stand up in Taiwan, and almost caused a riot amongst the 60,000 inside as well as the tens of thousands who couldn't get in.

They may have had a real Cinderella story, in this fairytale the band was 'discovered' by none other than Jon Bon Jovi in a club in their hometown of Philadelphia. Jon was able to help them secure a record deal. Recently, Tom Keifer did go on the record in an effort to set the record straight and has stated that a couple years before Jon Bon Jovi took interest in the band, Gene Simmons of KISS had initially found them and got attention of the Polygram record label. But they weren't signed. It was only after Jon Bon Jovi again came to that same record label of Polygram that they took another look at Cinderella and signed the band. The band consisted of Tom Keifer of vocals, lead guitar, and a variety of other instruments. Eric Brittingham on bass, the standout blonde guy in the otherwise black hair metal band. Where the singer did not have to have blonde hair. Jeff LaBar on guitar, and Fred Coury on drums. And all would lend backing vocals. This was Cinderella. And a good friend went on the "Monsters of Rock Cruise" in 2014 with a ton of other 80's bands on what would certainly have been an incredible time. He would see what would come to be the final performances Cinderella would ever perform together as a group. It was reported last week that longtime touring keyboardist for Cinderella, Gary Corbett had died. He also played on Cinderella's "Hot And Bothered" that was featured on the Wayne's World movie and also on their final album. Previously he was a keyboardist for KISS. Don't recal a KISS keyboardist? Me either, they kept him in the shadows along with other musicians and only featured the main four KISS members on stage. It was his job to fatten up the guitar and overall sound. He did a lot, he also wrote "She Bop" for Cyndi Lauper. It was Lung Cancer that had advanced and spread to his body.. He died just short of his birthday the following day. I've seen that many times in my own life, when somebody is so sick, they try and hold on to a certain date that is meaningful to them. My grandfather waited until his anniversary with my grandmother. My father-in-law just lost a short battle with cancer and will be missed by our whole family, we miss you Papa Terry. But it would also be reported on the same day, that longtime Cinderella guitarist, Jeff LaBar, had also passed. It was believed to have been alcohol related, as he had had many troubles in the past and often blamed as the reason that Cinderella would not reunite. This was a sad day for Cinderella, family, and fans. Rest in Peace Jeff LaBar and Gary Corbett. And Papa Terry. Thanks for listening. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tiny-curations/message

Ideal Para Llevarte O Regalar Productos Del Podcats De Ivoox. Ambas bandas celebraban el vigésimo aniversario de sus discos debut, Night Songs y Look What the Cat Dragged In.

Singer/Songwriter and member of Devil City Angels, Brandon Gibbs joins Chris and Aaron this week for a discussion of his career and future projects. In this hour-plus discussion, Brandon talks about his early influences in blues music including Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan, his partnership with twin brother Brent that allowed him to open for many notable artists including Peter Frampton, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, and Poison. His friendship with Rikki Rockett would later earn dividends in the form of Devil City Angels (also including members Tracii Guns, Eric Brittingham and, later, Rudy Sarzo). In this long form discussion, Brandon shares his take on what's next for Devil City Angels and how the demands of the other members' projects have pushed him to find work in numerous ways in the music industry. Brandon Gibbs In May of 2015, Brandon Gibbs was thrust into a much bigger spotlight as he filled Bret Michaels' shoes as he led the other members of Poison (under the moniker 'The Special Guests') for a set of shows aboard the 2015 Monsters of Rock Cruise. In this episode, Brandon shares his memories of the audition process, his thoughts on the fan reaction to the shows, his take on Bret Michaels, as well as an update on what the remaining members of Poison have planned in the near future. Wonderful talk with Eric Brittingham of Cinderella this week. Eric and I discuss the early days of Cinderella, the time they turned Gene Simmons down and even having to choose between Jeff Labar or Dave Sabo for Cinderella. Eric also talks about the Def Leppard Cruise and filling the shoes of Jimmy Bain after the tragedy on the ship. Eric also gives his opinion on if Cinderella will play together again,
Devil City Angels is a great new Hard Rock super- group with the likes of Brandon Gibbs, Tracii Guns, Rudy Sarzo (was Eric Brittingham) and Rikki Rockett! Cool album with a few tracks available on iTunes and more soon to come!

We return this week to fire up the flux capacitor and go back in time. After a quick hop, skip, and jump last time with the 2000 Year in Review parts 1 and 2 we go all the way back to a time filled with hairspray, neon, and keyboards....lots and lots of keyboards; 1986! 1986 saw the continued solo success of Ozzy Osbourne with the release of his Ultimate Sin album. Featuring the excellent fretwork of guitarist Jake E. Lee and a more melodic sound, the album would go on to sell over 2 million copies. Aaron's choice from the album is a smart one. In 1986, the hard rock world celebrated Valentine's Day with the release of The Big Prize by Canadian rockers Honeymoon Suite. Chris' choice of a hit track from the album that was subsequently featured on Miami Vice is full of attitude. Aaron goes back to the Violent Femmes well with a track from their 3rd album, 'The Blind Leading the Naked' that addresses their concerns of the nation's first lady of the time. Short, but entertaining. We head into the first break of the show with Chris' pick of a non-disposable track from Metallica's legendary Master of Puppets album. Hailed by many as the greatest metal album of all-time, it still holds up very well to this day. You don't need a time machine with this album; it's still as vital today as it was in 1986. We come back from the break with a track from a a band that was mired in drama. 5150 was Van Halen's first public musical outing since the departure of David Lee Roth. With a much slicker, commercialized sound, 5150 featured the vocal stylings of already-established solo artist Sammy Hagar. The public immediately took to the radio-friendlier sound of Van Halen and the album peaked at #1. Chris' choice of a track from this album has a personal connection to his childhood and memories of watching hours and hours of music videos on MTV. Judas Priest adopted also adopted a slicker sound in 1986 with the release of Turbo. Featuring less bone-crunching guitar riffs and more melodic vocals, Turbo received lukewarm reviews from Priest die-hards. Aaron's song choice from Turbo sums up the newly-intended direction of Judas Priest nicely. With KISS not producing an album in 1986, Gene Simmons was on to other business ventures. One of those ventures included producing other bands. One of those bands was Keel. Fronted by namesake, Ron Keel, The Final Frontier was released on April 30th, 1986 and included the single Because the Night written by Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen. Aaron's song choice from the album demonstrates that Keel was definitely overlooked in the tidal wave of mid-80's hard rock bands. One band in 1986 that was certainly not overlooked was Poison. Hailing from the gutters of Hollywood, Poison worked their way up the ranks of the Susnet Strip; garnering attention from record companies. 1986's debut album Look What the Cat Dragged In was an exercise in what has become known as sleeze-rock We come back from break #2 with a track from AC/DC that was not only from their Who Made Who album but was also featured on the motion picture soundtrack for the Stephen King-directed film Maximum Overdrive. Queen @ Wembley Stadium One of the most famous concert videos of all time was shot in 1986 as Queen performed in front of 72,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in what would go on to also become the Live at Wembley '86 double live album. The tour was in support of their A Kind of Magic album that was released that year and Chris' song choice was also included in the Top Gun knockoff Iron Eagle. While a lot of hard rock bands were exploding off the Sunset Strip in the early to mid 80's, Cinderella was launching their career from the east coast in Philadelphia. Fronted by the gritty-voiced Tom Keifer along with guitarist Jeff Labar, bassist Eric Brittingham, and drummer Fred Coury; Cinderella had a much more blues-based sound than their "hair" metal counterparts. Aaron's choice from the 1986 release Night Songs is a prime example of that sound. 2012 saw a lot of drama in the Queensryche camp but thankfully, that wasn't the story back in 1986. Chris' selection of a track from their Rage for Order album is a look back to a much happier and productive time for the Seattle-born band. The Japanese metal band Loudness released their sixth studio album, Lightning Strikes, in 1986. Already a household name in Japan, this album helped bring the band more exposure in the American marketplace. With a slicker sound more akin to the glam rock that was dominating the charts at the time, Lightning Strikes received favorable reviews from critics while losing a bit of their hardcore fan base at the same time. Chris' choice from the album has some blazing guitar work. The band that kicked off the Sunset Strip explosion a few years before was on there way out of fashion by 1986. Quiet Riot released QRIII to a disinterested public. Featuring no Slade cover songs, QRIII peaked at #31 on the Billboard charts and failed to reach Gold certification; quite a plunge from their multi-platinum status just a few years earlier. Chris' choice from the album shows that the public may have missed out on a solid album. We close things out with the other side of the Van Halen split with Aaron's choice of a great track from David Lee Roth's amazing Eat 'Em & Smile album. Diamond Dave is in his full glory with an all-star band consisting of bassist Billy Sheehan, guitarist Steve Vai, and drummer Craig Bissonnette. What more could you ask for? Buy Music!
