On the 63rd Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, the co-host of the Growin' Up Rock Podcast, Steven Michael, review the self-titled 1987 breakthrough album from Whitesnake. Whitesnake was a veteran British blues hard rock band with limited success in the United States. By 1987, David Coverdale wanted to change the band's style and image to a more Americanized version. He started with the music. The album is considered Whitesnake's "hair Metal" phase. The band was always a double guitar band, but this time, guitarist extraordinaire, John Sykes would contribute all the guitars and assist in the lyrics. Long time bassist, Neil Murray was on board as was top notch drummer, Aynsley Dunbar. Finalizing this lineup is Shout It Out Loudcast's favorite, Don Airey. After the music was completed, Coverdale proceeded to fire all the band members and hired an all star lineup to tour and more importantly appear in the MTV videos, including, Vivian Campbell, Adrian Vandenberg, Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldrich. But, more importantly he added his then fiancée, Tawny Kitaen to their videos and the band and the album exploded. Songs like "Here I Go Again" and "Is This Love" made it to Number 1 and 2 on radio respectively. The videos were all over MTV. The album was produced by Mike Stone and Keith Olsen. The album made it to Number 2 on the Billboard Charts and went 8X Platinum. The success of the band is credited to Coverdale's amazing vocals and frontman capabilities and John Sykes legendary melodic guitar work. However, the videos and Tawny Kitaen's impact cannot be overstated. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was the Patreon pick. Please make sure you join! Greg Prato makes his return to the Booked On Rock podcast. His latest book is Bang Your Head, Feel The Noize: The Quiet Riot Story. Comprised of quotes from interviews past and present and featuring many rare vintage photos, Greg examines all eras of the band: their '70s period which featured guitar legend Randy Rhoads in their line-up, through the blockbuster Metal Health period of the early 80s, and all the way to the modern day version of the group. We cover those eras in this episode!Purchase a copy of Bang Your Head, Feel The Noize: The Quiet Riot StoryFollow Greg Prato on X Episode Playlist ---------- BookedOnRock.com The Booked On Rock Store The Booked On Rock YouTube Channel Follow The Booked On Rock with Eric Senich:FACEBOOKINSTAGRAMTIKTOKX Find Your Nearest Independent Bookstore Contact The Booked On Rock Podcast: thebookedonrockpodcast@gmail.com The Booked On Rock Music: “Whoosh” by Crowander / “Last Train North” & “No Mercy” by TrackTribe

It is with heavy hearts that we deliver this week's episode honoring the passing of a guitar hero giant who also happened to be an awesome singer and songwriter: John Sykes. He was a guitarist deserving of the title guitar god who rarely got mentioned in the same circles as the Satches, Vais, Rhodes, and Van Halens. Most known for his brief stint in Thin Lizzy at the end of their career and as a brief member of Whitesnake. He should have been a household for playing on the Whitesnake 87 album that sold 25M records worldwide, but he was fired before it came out. Kevin's a huge fan of Blue Murder, so we will focus on that band and some of the lesser-known projects he was involved in while also paying homage to his mainstream successes. New to InObscuria? Typically, what we do is exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Rest In Peace John. Your pure musicality and amazing songs will live forever in our hearts!Songs this week include:Blue Murder – “We All Fall Down” from Nothin' But Trouble (1993)Streetfighter – “She's No Angel” from Lightnin' To The Nations: NWOBHM 25th Anniversary Collection (2005)Tygers Of Pan Tang – “Blackjack” from Spellbound (1981)John Sykes – “Pride And Joy” from Crossfire: A Salute To Stevie Ray (1996)Derek Sherinian – “God Of War” from Mythology (2004)Thin Lizzy – “Cowboy Song” from One Night Only (2000)John Sykes – “Cautionary Warning” from 20th Century (1997)Blue Murder – “Still Of The Night” from Screaming Blue Murder: Dedicated To Phil Lynott (1994)Blue Murder – “Jelly Roll” from Screaming Blue Murder: Dedicated To Phil Lynott (1994)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/

Rudy Sarzo of Quiet Riot Live on Game Changers with Vicki Abelson I got to sit down again with bassist extraordinaire, Rudy Sarzo... Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, The Guess Who, Blue Oyster Cult - who's also a modern-day humanist, animal rights activist, author, mentor, CG artist, and an evolved, spiritual, gentle soul. And what a time it was! Originally from Cuba, we talked Rudy's early days, his family's struggle to get here, and the struggles they continued to face when they arrived. Barely speaking the language, work shortages, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Kennedy Assassination, to the shining light of the Beatles, which shifted almost everything. Rudy's foray into music... Kevin Dubrow, the original Quiet Riot, a partial cover band at the time doing some originals, Ozzy Osbourne, the fame, booze, and the crazy, Randy Rhoads, who opened the doors, filled the world with magic and then took the joy when he left way too soon, Frankie Banali, more Quiet Riot, Metal Health, Whitesnake, the girls, more fame, Blue Oyster Cult, The Guess Who, now joyfully back with Quiet Riot with bandmates handpicked by the originals. We talked Rudy's marriage, it'll be 40 years this June, a herculean accomplishment for anyone, for a rocker on the road, stunningly amazing! This is a man who honors his commitments. All of them. Sober 26 years, he found program and solutions during the pandemic and finds himself a changed man in so many ways. And this, a changed world. Rudy is deep and we went deep about music, healing, the communal experience... I feel richer, calmer, saner, and more centered having spent time in his grounded and assured presence. He's not only a monster bass player of the highest caliber, he's also a highly evolved human of a most admirable order. I feel like I just spent an hour plus with a Zen master and I'm somehow better for it. What a gift he is. Hello Rivet Heads, On this week's show, we present a Truly unique look behind the "Metal Curtain" as we speak to Brittany Chapman, the daughter of the late Paul Chapman, Guitarist of UFO. This is her story we have dubbed " Growing up Chapman". Brittany is the youngest of Paul's 3 children via 4 marriages, as well as being the only girl. Since Paul's death in June of 2020, Brittany has received condolence's and well wishes from fans and musicians from all over the world. The magnitude of her late father's finger print on the global rock community has been humbling to say the least for Brittany. You see, to us fans, Paul Chapman was a "ROCK STAR", but to Brittany he was her dad. Brittany shares countless stories of her family upbringing with her father, Mother, Step Mother's, step siblings, nine grandsons and two granddaughters. You really get a look at Paul Chapman”, THE DAD" with his love of cooking and music. His connection to all 4 of his wives and how he was able to keep a positive family unit together while combining step children with his own children. Brittany shares her admiration for her mother Cheryl whom she refers to as the real “GOAT” of the family. Fun stories include putting up with the passed-out road crew of L.A. glam band in her living room to late night shenanigans involving swords. Brittany reflects back on her dad's love of cooking. Always preparing big meals with guitar in hand, for friends and family. Family was everything to Paul. It wasn't always easy, Paul wasn't perfect, but he had a perfect heart and loved both his close family and his music family. Finally, Brittany shares the continuous reach out from Her Dad's colleagues. Phil Collen and Joe Elliot of Def Leppard, Billy Sheehan, Rudy Sarzo, Kirk Hammett, Nicko McBrain and Radio DJ Eddie Trunk. The list goes on and on... Paul touched all of these music giants in a way that Brittany is just now fully realizing. "Growing up Chapman '' is Brittany Chapman's story and it's a Damn good one! Paul Chapman (9 June 1954 – 9 June 2020) was a Welsh rock guitarist best known for his work in bands such as UFO and Lone Star. Chapman first joined UFO in 1974-1975 as a second guitarist for the live shows. He left UFO in January 1975 and went on to form Lone Star. Chapman later rejoined UFO in December 1978 on a full-time basis. Chapman recorded his first album with UFO – No Place to Run – It was released in January 1980. Chapman remained in UFO until 1983 In 1984 he joined Waysted and recorded the albums The Good the Bad the Waysted and Save your Prayers. Chapman also went on to form a new band PCP (Paul Chapman Project) and in July 2006, Chapman joined the American southern rock band Gator Country, a collection of Molly Hatchet veterans. In 2015, Chapman went out for a 10-week US tour with the Swedish/Canadian band Killer Bee. Chapman died on his 66th birthday on 9 June 2020. He left two sons, a daughter, nine grandsons and two granddaughters. He was well known by his nickname "Tonka", allegedly acquired because of his indestructible qualities. R.I.P. Rudy Sarzo (of Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, & Dio fame), Raven's John and Mark Gallagher, and bassist PJ Farley (of Trixter & Fozzy fame) bring the sex, drugs and rock & roll to the Evolution of 80s Heavy Metal! The stories from the studio and the stage are almost unbelievable and include the immensely talented Randy Rhoads, a very young Metallica, the mythical KISS, and the behemoth 1983 US Festival! There are tales about the origin of Quiet Riot and the writing of the “Metal Health” album, what caused Raven to be dropped from the massive Judas Priest Turbo Tour, the truth about Randy Rhoads planning to quit Ozzy's band, and why three "heys" from Paul Stanley was more than enough acknowledgement for PJ Harvey and Trixter. The guys talk gold records, bad record deals, the MTV influence, Winnebago tours, and the grunge cloud that all but killed heavy metal as soon as it burst onto the scene.
