In this episode of Carmen Talk, Carmen breaks down the real story behind the Myers-Briggs personality test and why it isn't scientific. She shares her own experience being mislabeled as an introvert as a kid, explains how the test became a corporate marketing tool, and clarifies why most people are actually ambiverts. Carmen also talks about how old beliefs can stick with us and why it's important to question what we were taught. This episode encourages listeners to rethink labels, trust their own experiences, and stay curious about what's actually true. Thank you for stopping by. Leadership conversations often feel a bit binary. We're usually told leaders are either introverts or extroverts. But in real workplaces, most leaders sit somewhere in between, constantly adjusting how they show up based on the situation and the people in front of them. That's the space we're exploring today, ambivert leadership, and what it looks like when that balance is used intentionally. And to talk through this with me, I'm joined by Srividya Venkataramanan, Vice President – HR at FSS. Host of this Episode: Sanjeevani Saikia
There are so many misconceptions about what it means to be each personality type and most conversations stay at the level of behaviour, labels, or stereotypes. The older I get, the more I realize that so much of our stress, burnout, disconnectedness and anxiety can be a result of living out of alignment with our nature and temperament, and a key part of that nature is our tendency towards introversion or extroversion. In this episode, we're breaking down what it really means to be an introvert, extrovert, ambivert, or omnivert, and how your personality type shapes your energy, relationships, career, and overall mental health.Whether you feel drained after social events, thrive in big groups, or swing between both worlds, this deep dive will help you understand your natural temperament, and how to honour it while still growing outside your comfort zone.Tune in to hear about: ✅ The science behind introversion vs extroversion (dopamine, arousal theory)✅ How to know if you're an introvert, extrovert, ambivert, or omnivert... and why it's a scale✅ Myths about introverts (no, they're not socially anxious or antisocial!) and extroverts (yes, they need downtime too!)✅ How introverts and extroverts can thrive in the workplace without burning out✅ Picking the right job and work environment for your temperament ✅ Dating & relationship tips for introverts vs extroverts — and how to make different energy needs work together✅ Self-care strategies: how introverts can recharge and how extroverts can avoid burnout✅ Creating a "restorative niche" for introverts to return to their true self ✅ Why extroverts crave novelty and shared experience✅ Why you don't need to box yourself into one label, and how to expand your window of tolerance / “social stamina”If you've ever Googled things like “am I an introvert or extrovert,” “how to recharge as an introvert,” or “introvert vs extrovert relationships,” this one's for you.For advertising and sponsorship inquiries, please contact Frequency Podcast Network. Are you more of an introvert or an extrovert? Or maybe a bit of both? While introverts often need solitude to recharge and feel more comfortable alone, extroverts thrive on interaction, seeking out social situations and sometimes feeling uneasy in isolation. These two categories are often seen as opposites, but experts at psychologue.net suggest that personality traits actually exist on a spectrum. This means that introversion and extroversion can coexist, and many people identify with aspects of both. If you see yourself in both introverted and extroverted behaviors, you might be what's called an ambivert. What does being an ambivert really mean? How can you tell if you're an ambivert? We are taught at an early age to be an extrovert... It's the way to be they say (or something like that). Although, introverted people are typically more thoughtful about who they are, what is happening around them, and caring for others. THEY THINK! People want to listen to them, because those who know them or know about them, know that those introverts have thought through what they are going to say. They leave us with usable information. In history, it has many times been the Introvert who became the most sought after public speaker... the one who would change the world around them. We think of extroverts as the public speakers and life changers, because they are loud and love large groups of people. But throughout history it was and is the Introverted thinker who people seem to be sought after in many cases. The Introvert, by personality trait, is often drained by large rooms or groups of people. They prefer a one-on-one time. They often need no one else around and are quite content. They are often deep thinkers and writers of their thoughts. They require long periods of solitude. Then why do they end up attracting crowds in some cases? Also.... WHAT ON EARTH IS AN AMBIVERT? Today I explore Introverts, Extroverts and Ambiverts as personal monikers. Knowing who you are and how you draw energy in life is important. Although we may throw these words around, do we truly know ourselves, our family or friends. For many years I was confused because often I showed up as a bona fide extrovert but often felt drained after big social interactions. It wasn't until I explored deeper my true personality characteristics was I able to align my social interactions with what genuinely excited and inspired me. If you are interested in learning about the Big Five Personality Traits, I have provided an outline below. This is a great place to start! 1. Openness to Experience: This trait features characteristics such as imagination, creativity, curiosity, and a willingness to try new things. People who score high in openness are often open-minded and adventurous, whereas those who score low may be more traditional and resistant to change. 2. Conscientiousness: This dimension measures the level of organization, dependability, discipline, and achievement-oriented behaviors. Highly conscientious individuals are reliable and efficient, carefully planning and executing their tasks. On the other end, those with lower scores might be more spontaneous and less detail-oriented. 3. Extraversion: Extraversion is characterized by sociability, assertiveness, excitement-seeking, and high levels of emotional expressiveness. Extraverts draw energy from being around others, while introverts (those low on the extraversion scale) may find social gatherings draining and prefer more solitary or intimate settings. 4. Agreeableness: This trait reflects a person's tendency towards altruism, trust, modesty, and cooperativeness. Individuals who score high in agreeableness are typically friendly and compassionate, whereas those who score low may be more competitive or even skeptical of others' intentions. 5. Neuroticism: Neuroticism measures the tendency toward emotional instability, anxiety, moodiness, and irritability. People with high scores in neuroticism may experience stress and emotional ups and downs more intensely than those with lower scores, who tend to be more emotionally stable and resilient. I'll briefly go through each type of introvert, but spend most of the time talking through social introversion. I'll look into the differences between a social introvert and ambivert, and I'll end with some insight into how to use your social introversion as a speaker and what it might say about you as speaker in general if you do identify as one. “1. You're a good listener and communicator Extroverts prefer to talk more, and introverts like to observe and listen. But ambiverts know when to speak up and when to listen. An ambivert might open a meeting by giving a brief pep talk, then offer employees the chance to talk about their own challenges or concerns. 2. You have an ability to regulate behavior Adjusting to fit the person or situation seems to come naturally to ambiverts. Imagine you're riding in an elevator with strangers. An extrovert might start making small talk, but an introvert might put in earbuds to avoid interaction. You might choose either option, depending on your fellow riders. 3. You feel comfortable in social settings, but also value your alone time Ambiverts can feel like they're in their element in a crowd or when enjoying a quiet evening at home. Say a friend calls with a last-minute invite for an evening out. An extrovert will likely accept without hesitation, and an introvert is likely to decline in favor of staying in. The ambivert will probably consider the pros and cons of that particular outing. They could go either way. If a friend's having an issue, an extrovert might try to offer a solution right away, and an introvert might be great at listening. An ambivert might listen and ask thoughtful questions to try and help. 5. You're able to provide balance In the case of group settings, ambiverts can provide a much-needed balance to the social dynamic. An ambivert might be the one to help break an awkward silence, making others who are more introverted feel comfortable starting a conversation.” 4. Empathy comes naturally to you Ambiverts are able to listen and show they understand where a person is coming from. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/support
In this episode, I'm talking about what is it like to be an ambivert. I think lots of time people think it's just 50/50 but it actually comes in waves. Some days or months even I feel extrovert and other days or months very much introvert. It truly is a journey and I thought it would be interesting to share.Ready to shop better hydration, use my special link https://zen.ai/wildbasicwithmursalison to save 20% off anything you order.Apple Podcasts: http://apple.co/2TF3VnSSpotify: https://spoti.fi/2AfNQiaGoogle Podcasts: https://bit.ly/3pmXw09Amazon: https://amzn.to/2FKeu5XFollow the podcast: @wildandbasic on IG or "Wild & Basic Podcast" on YouTube

In this difficult time of the Covid, Covid 19, coronavirus, which ever you prefer to call it, staying at home has never been easier, especially when you're an introvert. But what happens when you're someone who is extroverted or ambivert? Do you think staying at home would be difficult? None the less, if you've been keeping up with the Myers-Briggs Indicator Type trend, then you're probably familiar with introversion and extraversion. But sometimes personality tests, although they mean well and have helped with career-building and personal development, they can still be...well...very black and white. In a perfect world, we'd only have to worry about two options. But, people are more fluid than that, and sometimes, things can get messy. What does it mean to be an introvert, extrovert, or ambivert?
