Are you more of an introvert or an extrovert? Or maybe a bit of both? While introverts often need solitude to recharge and feel more comfortable alone, extroverts thrive on interaction, seeking out social situations and sometimes feeling uneasy in isolation. These two categories are often seen as opposites, but experts at psychologue.net suggest that personality traits actually exist on a spectrum. This means that introversion and extroversion can coexist, and many people identify with aspects of both. If you see yourself in both introverted and extroverted behaviors, you might be what's called an ambivert. What does being an ambivert really mean? How can you tell if you're an ambivert? Is there scientific backing for the ambivert concept? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! We are taught at an early age to be an extrovert... It's the way to be they say (or something like that). Although, introverted people are typically more thoughtful about who they are, what is happening around them, and caring for others. THEY THINK! People want to listen to them, because those who know them or know about them, know that those introverts have thought through what they are going to say. They leave us with usable information. In history, it has many times been the Introvert who became the most sought after public speaker... the one who would change the world around them. We think of extroverts as the public speakers and life changers, because they are loud and love large groups of people. But throughout history it was and is the Introverted thinker who people seem to be sought after in many cases. The Introvert, by personality trait, is often drained by large rooms or groups of people. They prefer a one-on-one time. They often need no one else around and are quite content. They are often deep thinkers and writers of their thoughts. They require long periods of solitude. Then why do they end up attracting crowds in some cases? Also.... WHAT ON EARTH IS AN AMBIVERT? Today I explore Introverts, Extroverts and Ambiverts as personal monikers. Knowing who you are and how you draw energy in life is important. Although we may throw these words around, do we truly know ourselves, our family or friends. For many years I was confused because often I showed up as a bona fide extrovert but often felt drained after big social interactions. It wasn't until I explored deeper my true personality characteristics was I able to align my social interactions with what genuinely excited and inspired me. If you are interested in learning about the Big Five Personality Traits, I have provided an outline below. This is a great place to start! 1. Openness to Experience: This trait features characteristics such as imagination, creativity, curiosity, and a willingness to try new things. People who score high in openness are often open-minded and adventurous, whereas those who score low may be more traditional and resistant to change. 2. Conscientiousness: This dimension measures the level of organization, dependability, discipline, and achievement-oriented behaviors. Highly conscientious individuals are reliable and efficient, carefully planning and executing their tasks. On the other end, those with lower scores might be more spontaneous and less detail-oriented. 3. Extraversion: Extraversion is characterized by sociability, assertiveness, excitement-seeking, and high levels of emotional expressiveness. Extraverts draw energy from being around others, while introverts (those low on the extraversion scale) may find social gatherings draining and prefer more solitary or intimate settings. 4. Agreeableness: This trait reflects a person's tendency towards altruism, trust, modesty, and cooperativeness. Individuals who score high in agreeableness are typically friendly and compassionate, whereas those who score low may be more competitive or even skeptical of others' intentions. 5. Neuroticism: Neuroticism measures the tendency toward emotional instability, anxiety, moodiness, and irritability. People with high scores in neuroticism may experience stress and emotional ups and downs more intensely than those with lower scores, who tend to be more emotionally stable and resilient. Stay curious!

Growth comes only from leaving our comfort zones Despite being an actor in HS, a DJ in college, and serving as a court herald in my medieval organization – and speaking publicly in front of hundreds, sometimes – I'm more introverted than extroverted. Ambivert is a fair approximation for me. Doing this uncomfortable thing is extremely positive for my overall life approach. Why and how does that work? You can't grow from your comfort zone What does it mean to live? It's not simply a matter of existing, of being half-present, of just surviving. It's about thriving. Having experiences, learning things, meeting people, doing things, and the like. Unfortunately, this means there will be pain and bad things. However, that's just a part of the life experience. Living isn't always comfortable, and that's okay. Growth comes from experiences. Some are tangible, others intangible. Actively growing is empowering, and opens you to all kinds of potential, possibilities, and options. Becoming comfortable getting uncomfortable This is just like any muscle. The more you work it the stronger you get. It is equally important that you work and grow your mental, emotional, and spiritual muscles like you would your physical ones. This will be uncomfortable. That's largely because you are stepping into the unknown. There is no certainty in the unknown save uncertainty and the unknown. Getting mindfully uncomfortable The first step in the process is to identify what you desire to change. Mindfulness around this topic begins with acquiring conscious awareness of my thoughts, feelings, actions, approach, and intentions. Just thinking and feeling this out is a step away from my comfort zone. That's because it points me in the direction of the unknown and uncomfortable. Mindfulness can only be practiced by each of us individually. The power of non-toxic positivity Looking at both the positive and the negative - and choosing a positive approach - is genuine positivity. Toxic positivity ignores, disregards, and discards the negative. That's unrealistic, unhealthy, and of course toxic. Doing the uncomfortable thing via conscious awareness is a positive approach that can help you actively grow, change, and evolve. Growth comes only from leaving our comfort zones. Since I would rather take the wheel and drive my life than just go for a ride, this is how I empower myself, and is worthwhile to me. That's why doing the uncomfortable thing is positive. How empowering is that? This week's Applied Guidance for Mindfulness Tool: When something uncomfortable happens in the next week – specifically anything that draws you out of your comfort zone, like a conversation, an opportunity to do something new and unusual, or the like - consider it before you act on it or dismiss it. What you believe – positive or negative – is true. After something pulls you out of your comfort zone or otherwise causes you to feel uncomfortable, it's easy to go negative. However, you have a choice. Here's the exercise: 1. Write whatever the situation is/was down 2. Explain why it generated the emotion it generated 3. How are you feeling? 4. If negative, can you refocus to find and/or create a positive? This is meant to show you how self-awareness and mindfulness empower you to change any belief you hold. It will also show how you can get comfortable and work with positivity in an uncomfortable situation. this in mind going forward. I'm back at the Vintage Computer Festival Midwest for another convention of old and obsolete technology. With tons of retro computers and video games it's a celebration of old technology and the people that made them. VCF is bigger than ever in 2023, with more panels, more exhibitors, more vendors, and more attendees. But being bigger also means more challenges. Did VCFMW rise to the occasion and conquer the challenges, or did it crash like an old PC running Windows 95? You'll have to watch to find out. “1. You're a good listener and communicator Extroverts prefer to talk more, and introverts like to observe and listen. But ambiverts know when to speak up and when to listen. An ambivert might open a meeting by giving a brief pep talk, then offer employees the chance to talk about their own challenges or concerns. 2. You have an ability to regulate behavior Adjusting to fit the person or situation seems to come naturally to ambiverts. Imagine you're riding in an elevator with strangers. An extrovert might start making small talk, but an introvert might put in earbuds to avoid interaction. You might choose either option, depending on your fellow riders. 3. You feel comfortable in social settings, but also value your alone time Ambiverts can feel like they're in their element in a crowd or when enjoying a quiet evening at home. Say a friend calls with a last-minute invite for an evening out. An extrovert will likely accept without hesitation, and an introvert is likely to decline in favor of staying in. The ambivert will probably consider the pros and cons of that particular outing. They could go either way. If a friend's having an issue, an extrovert might try to offer a solution right away, and an introvert might be great at listening. An ambivert might listen and ask thoughtful questions to try and help. 5. You're able to provide balance In the case of group settings, ambiverts can provide a much-needed balance to the social dynamic. An ambivert might be the one to help break an awkward silence, making others who are more introverted feel comfortable starting a conversation.” 4. Empathy comes naturally to you Ambiverts are able to listen and show they understand where a person is coming from. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/support
Colin Mochrie: The AmbivertIs an ambivert a pervert? No, it's most of us! Maybe we are all just less funny versions of Colin Mochrie, who reveals he is, of course, an ambivert, someone who feels comfortable in social situations but also really enjoys time alone. You may know Colin as an extrovert, but he's often really introverted. He says he's afraid his neighbours might think he's a dick, when he's really just shy.Colin is a famous improv guy, he was on the U.K. and U.S. versions of “Whose Line is it Anyway” for decades. He is now doing big shows in L.A. with a hypnotist. He tells us why “Hyprov” is a perfect mix for improv. He also performs “Scared Scriptless” with comedian Brad Sherwood. His wife, Deb McGrath, who he met at Toronto's Second City, is also an improv pro. She is an extrovert! He says they just hide away in different corners of the house when the laughs run out. In this episode, I'm talking about what is it like to be an ambivert. I think lots of time people think it's just 50/50 but it actually comes in waves. Some days or months even I feel extrovert and other days or months very much introvert. It truly is a journey and I thought it would be interesting to share.Ready to shop better hydration, use my special link https://zen.ai/wildbasicwithmursalison to save 20% off anything you order.Apple Podcasts: http://apple.co/2TF3VnSSpotify: https://spoti.fi/2AfNQiaGoogle Podcasts: https://bit.ly/3pmXw09Amazon: https://amzn.to/2FKeu5XFollow the podcast: @wildandbasic on IG or "Wild & Basic Podcast" on YouTube

According to Dr Ali Walker, I'm a Shape-Shifting Ambivert. I just thought I was a social misfit with trust issues but apparently, I can be classified. Moving forward, I might put SSA after my name. This was a fun episode where we spoke about why having your bio read (to an audience) is the kryptonite of human connection (snore-fest), how to discover your connection type, why belonging (to something, someone) is so important, how to recognise, understand and match ‘frequencies and intensities' in others, understanding our public persona and our shadow self, how I helped Ali cure her propensity to be a people-pleaser and we also chatted about her ongoing battle with her husband re temperature regulation in the home, car and even, bed. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this difficult time of the Covid, Covid 19, coronavirus, which ever you prefer to call it, staying at home has never been easier, especially when you're an introvert. But what happens when you're someone who is extroverted or ambivert? Do you think staying at home would be difficult? None the less, if you've been keeping up with the Myers-Briggs Indicator Type trend, then you're probably familiar with introversion and extraversion. But sometimes personality tests, although they mean well and have helped with career-building and personal development, they can still be...well...very black and white. In a perfect world, we'd only have to worry about two options. But, people are more fluid than that, and sometimes, things can get messy. What does it mean to be an introvert, extrovert, or ambivert?
