Today's Topics: 1) Gospel - Mt 21:33-43, 45-46 - Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders of the people: ""Hear another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a tower. Then he leased it to tenants and went on a journey. When vintage time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to obtain his produce. But the tenants seized the servants and one they beat, another they killed, and a third they stoned. Again he sent other servants, more numerous than the first ones, but they treated them in the same way. Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking, 'They will respect my son.' But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and acquire his inheritance.' They seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What will the owner of the vineyard do to those tenants when he comes?"" They answered him, ""He will put those wretched men to a wretched death and lease his vineyard to other tenants who will give him the produce at the proper times."" Jesus said to them, ""Did you never read in the Scriptures: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes? Therefore, I say to you, the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit."" When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they knew that he was speaking about them. And although they were attempting to arrest him, they feared the crowds, for they regarded him as a prophet. Bishop Sheen quote of the day 2) Need some inspiration? Meet real-life hero, Father Daniel Mode, chaplain for the “Lone Survivor” SEAL team in Afghanistan and author of a book about the famed “Grunt Padre,” Father Vincent Capodanno https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253550/meet-the-lone-survivor-priest-and-grunt-padre-author-whos-now-the-head-chaplain-of-the-coast-guard 3) The Sister who fooled the Nazis: One of the world's oldest Sisters died this year at the age of 104. Known as the "angel of the laboratory," she used four coffins to hide desperately needed medical supplies for the poor during the Nazi occupation of Rome https://aleteia.org/2023/02/11/104-year-old-sister-remembered-for-fooling-the-nazis-with-4-coffins/ 4) Authentic friendship: Aristotle said that each friendship falls into one of three categories: pleasure, utility, or virtue. Friendship of virtue creates the deepest and most fulfilling bonds. Many claim that two people must have commonality of faith to have such a friendship. But, Michael Adams writes about the deep bond of friendship he has with someone who couldn't be more opposite from himself in his beliefs. Is it possible to have the truest sort of friendship in these circumstances? https://www.wordonfire.org/articles/contributors/evangelizing-through-authentic-friendship/

1. The OT prophets speak of God as FATHER Exodus 4:22–23 (ESV) 22 Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord, Israel is my firstborn son, 23 and I say to you, “Let my son go that he may serve me.” Isaiah 63:15–16 (ESV) 15 Look down from heaven and see, from your holy and beautiful habitation. Where are your zeal and your might? The stirring of your inner parts and your compassion are held back from me. 16 For you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us, and Israel does not acknowledge us; you, O Lord, are our Father, our Redeemer from of old is your name. 2. The Son Reveals God as FATHER John 1:18 (ESV) 18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known. John 14:9 (ESV) 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father'? John 20:17 (ESV) 17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.' ” What does it mean that God is a Father? Psalm 68:4–6 (ESV) 4 Sing to God, sing praises to his name; lift up a song to him who rides through the deserts; his name is the Lord; exult before him! 5 Father of the fatherlessand protector of widows is God in his holy habitation. 6 God settles the solitary in a home. A) A Father gives Love Sacrificially and Unconditionally 1 John 3:1 (ESV) 1 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. B) A Father is a Provider James 1:17 (ESV) 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. C) A Father is a Protector John 10:29 (ESV) 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. D) A Father gives Instruction and Discipline 2 Timothy 3:16–17 (ESV) 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. Hebrews 12:5–8 (ESV) 5 And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. 6 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” 7 It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.

The evil one hates communion and harmony. He wants to divide, and the thing he wants to divide most is the vowed union of marriage. But God is on our side, and he gives us the weapons to fight for our spouses and the good of society. Father Daniel Scheidt, Pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is the perfect person to lead us in the Battle for Marriage, having studied at the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and the Family in Washington, DC, as well as having much practical wisdom from his own family and the inspiring men and women he has served as a shepherd of souls. This is an episode you'll want to listen to over and over again to soak in Father Daniel's great insights. "The evil one is incapable of emerging from himself: he is totally self-absorbed. Marriage reverses that. Marriage is being taken out of one self for the other person. And of course the paradox is the more I allow my life to be given as a gift the more myself I become." Weekly Challenge: Continue to say the Prayer to St. Michael Think and pray about one way you and your spouse can grow closer together, talk about it, and put a plan into place to do it.

The Greatest Comeback continues throughout the Illinois Valley area, including St. Louis Catholic Church in Princeton. Father Daniel Gifford has been at St. Louis since 2017. It’s been several weeks since parishioners have been able to physically return for Mass. Father Gifford says it’s great having people back in the church after nearly three months of quarantine. At this time, in-person attendance is being limited to 25 percent of maximum capacity, or up to 90 people. People should call ahead and reserve a spot for the weekend Masses and those attending are asked to wear a face mask when entering and exiting the church and when in close proximity to members of other households. St. Louis Catholic Church is located at 616 South Gosse Boulevard in Princeton. More information on the parish including the Mass schedule and information on signing up for church emails can be found at stlouisprinceton.org and they have a Facebook page. You can also call the parish office at 815-879-0181.

Father Daniel explains the struggle that each of us has internally every day of our life. Our will, desire, glory, pride must subside so that God's will, desire, glory, pride, etc. will manifest in our lives. By decreasing ourselves, we make room in our heart for the Holy Spirit to abide and take charge within us. By decreasing ourselves, we correctly acknowledge Who is in charge of our path.Fr. He was from Samosata in Mesopotamia, and became a monk at the age of twelve. As a young monk he visited St Symeon the Stylite (September 1) to receive his blessing. Years later he moved to the neighborhood of Constantinople at the request of the holy Patriarch Anatolius (July 3), whom he had healed of a deadly ailment through his prayers. For a time Daniel lived in the church of the Archangel Michael at Anaplus, but nine years later St Symeon the Stylite appeared to him in a vision and told him to imitate Symeon's ascesis of living on a pillar. For the remaining thirty-three years of his life the Saint did just that. He stood immovably in prayer regardless of the weather: once after a storm his disciples found him standing covered with ice. He was much loved by several Emperors (including Leo the Great), who sought him out for counsel. He reposed at the age of eighty-four, having lived through the reigns of three Emperors.

Hidden is a sermon series about prayer and how we can 'hide' ourselves and our world in God through prayer. In part 2, we look at Matthew 6:5-15 to see that prayer is simply a conversation with our Father in heaven.
Revival is a sermon series about how God can awaken us to a whole new way of living. In part 1, we talk about how revival starts when we step into relationship with our Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ. We unpack this idea by looking at the story of the Prodigal Sons in Luke 15.
What would you say to a 16 year old self? Would you give great advice or would you be too hard on yourself? In our second segment we take a look at Daniel Chapter 6 and Daniels challenge as he is placed in the lions den. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/christianguys/message
Meditation - 15 minutes "We need roots in order to bear fruit" said Father Daniel, as he explained why, in the Cistercian tradition, monks and nuns take a vow of 'place'. What does it mean for us, in this rootless world, to grow roots? What does it mean to bring forth fruit? Is it about mere productivity? Or can it be about something more, perhaps creativity? A flowering of the soul?
27th Sunday in Ordinary Time - Homily by Father Daniel Kelley. “If we love one another, God remains in us,” we sing before the Gospel reading today. How appropriate on this Respect Life Sunday. All life, everyone’s life, is a gift from God, a gift given out of love by our Creator. Therefore, all life is precious in God’s eyes. If all life is precious, all life is worthy of our love. With that attitude and with God remaining in us, we can sing the second half of the Gospel acclamation, “and God’s love is brought to perfection in us.” Twice in today’s readings we hear, in reference to those who are married, “the two become one flesh.” Significantly, we hear these words first in Genesis, where the first person becomes a co-creator, naming all the animals and even providing a rib so that God could create a partner. In becoming one flesh, two people create a new and unique entity. Let us reflect on how we have or can become co-creators, creating bonds and creating life from the impulse of love.

Father Peter spoke to a gathering of clergy and lay people in Athens recently and pointed to the witness of the new martyr of Moscow, the missionary priest Father Daniel Sysoev, as a model for mission work today. Father Daniel walked the "Royal Path" of the Church, avoiding two extremes, that of indifference to the person from the right and indifference to the Truth from the left.
