Often misunderstood as simply being about muscles and bodybuilding, protein is, in fact, the fundamental building block of life – forming everything from our DNA and skin to our enzymes and hormones. And today's returning guest believes that many of us are simply not eating enough. Dr Rupy Aujla is a London-based doctor, nutritionist and founder of The Doctor's Kitchen, who is on a mission to make healthy cooking accessible and enjoyable for all. He has authored multiple best-selling cookbooks, including his very latest: Healthy High Protein: Supercharge Your Energy, Feel Stronger and Live Longer.   In this conversation, Rupy challenges the traditional protein recommendations and why he believes that many of us should be focussing on increasing our consumption. He shares how muscle wasting affects around 40% of us as we get older and he explains that this muscle wastage is not just about losing strength – but also affects our metabolism, energy levels and overall wellbeing.    We also delve into the protein content of our breakfasts, the differences between animal and plant proteins, the potential downsides of protein powders, how protein needs change as we get older, and why increasing our protein intake can often reduce our snacking and ultra-processed food consumption.   Whether you're dealing with mid-morning energy crashes, looking to support healthy ageing, or simply wanting to feel better, Rupy's practical wisdom transforms protein-focused eating into something manageable and enjoyable for all. “High protein” has turned into a bit of a marketing buzzword. I'm seeing it plastered on everything from snack bars to cereals and even crisps. Is this actually necessary? Are we getting enough protein in our diet, or are some of us actually under-consuming this vital macronutrient? Do we need supplements and powders or are whole foods enough? And what about the debate between animal based proteins and plant based? That's why I've put everything I've gleaned from the research and years of cooking into my new book, Healthy High Protein, which is out tomorrow.I'm sitting down with our Science Content Lead, Sakina, to share my take on some of these big questions about protein. We'll discuss:Why I think the protein guidelines are set too lowHow eating more protein affects brain health, metabolic health and energyHow to eat more protein in a healthy way that supports your gut and reduces inflammationPlus, my favourite protein sources and how I use them in recipesBuy Healthy High Protein here

It's been about 7 years but feels like yesterday when I think about the time I was really struggling with health. All of a sudden I was getting serious headaches and didn't know why…My friend Robb Wolf who wrote the book Wired to Eat turned me on to InsideTracker but to be honest I didn't follow thru and spent the next 4 years trying to figure things out on my own by seeing over a dozen doctors and specialists. I probably wasted at least $20,000 in time and medical expenses with nothing to show for it. Earlier this year another friend suggested InsideTracker again and I signed up. It was so easy. A specialist came to my house to took my blood for a blood panel test that measured almost 50 health markers. About a week later I had a full report across all of the important categories:*Fitness measured things likeTestosterone CortisolApoBCholesterolTriglycerides *MetabolismGlucoseALT /liver enzymeInsulinThere's also...*Cognition*Sleep*Gut healthInsideTracker is designed to give you personal access to what's happening under the hood of your body. Then you can take action on your own or with a nutritionist, doctor, fitness trainer etc. to reach your own personal health goals. How much would you pay to have a roadmap to feeling your best? I promise InsideTracker costs a lot less and I guarantee it has been one of the best investments I've made for myself. With annual fees starting at $150 this is a no-brainer.For more info go to InsideTracker.com and give it a try.Special Thanks to Our Sponsors! This episode is brought to you by our friends at Burst Creatine gummies. There are a bunch of creatine choices out there but they're not all safe and 3rd party tested.I chose Burst Creatine gummies because as a busy producer working on this show — as well as TV commercials and original content for my clients, creatine power is messy and hard to travel with. Leave dry scooping to the meatheads, it messes up your gut health anyway…Burst creatine gummies aren't made in some factory in China where your creatine is getting mixed with who knows how many other powders or medications they have being made there. Burst is made locally in the United States and has exactly 1.5 grams of creatine per gummy. I take 3 on my way out the door to the gym to get improved brain function, build muscle and speed up my recovery. They taste pretty good too. And since I can't have a lot of sugar or chemical dyes, they are made with natural ingredients that fit my protocol so that I can perform at my highest level. Want to try them out? Just go to burstcreatine.com and order your first bag and get in the game. Support the Show.
