Goal Mapping: The Step-by-Step Path to Achieving What Matters with Brian Mayne

Key Topics Covered:  1. Why Goal Setting Often Fails (and What's Really Driving You)Everything you do day to day is largely driven by your subconscious mind.If you don't set a clear goal, your subconscious will follow your dominant thought, which can lead to drift or self sabotage. The difference between achievers and non achievers is often whether they have a system for setting goals in a powerful way.2. Brian Main's Story and the Origins of Goal MappingBrian grew up in a travelling funfair family, left school before 13, had dyslexia, and couldn't read or write properly. After the family business collapsed, he faced repossession, major debt, and a very dark period personally.Personal development and goal setting became life changing, leading to the creation of Goal Mapping and a global coaching network.3. Why Words and Pictures Work Better Than Words AloneThe subconscious pays far more attention to images than to repeated written statements.Goal mapping combines clarity and precision (words) with subconscious impact (pictures).Brian explains why vision boards often fail: they may have pictures, but lack words, timelines, plans, and structure.4. The Seven-Step Goal Mapping ProcessDream: create a clear picture of successPriority: choose the main focusWhat: define the goals (often five on one map)Why: identify emotional reasons that keep you in the gameWhen: set start and target datesHow: map the key steps along the timelineWho: identify support and the qualities you must embody (for example “I am focused”)5. Daily Review, Brain States, and Making Goals “Stick”Brian recommends reviewing your map daily, ideally in the first hour after waking. This is when your brain is in alpha rhythm, with a much stronger connection to the subconscious.Reviewing daily for around 30 days helps form new neural connections and beliefs (brain cells that fire together, wire together).6. How to Write Goals So Your Subconscious Understands ThemAvoid negative goals like “I don't want debt” or “I lose 15kg” because the subconscious struggles with “don't” and abstract negatives.Write goals as affirmations: personal, positive, present tenseExamples: “I feel fantastic and free at 88kg” or “I am mortgage free”.7. Financial Goals: Getting Specific and Finding Your NumberFinancial freedom goals need a number, not vague phrases like “I'm abundant”.WealthBuilders' approach: design your perfect year, price it up, then divide by 12 to estimate your monthly recurring income target. The number can evolve, but having a destination helps you measure the gap and build a plan.Actionable Takeaways:Use a system, not willpower: goal achievement improves when the goal is set clearly and reviewed consistently.Combine words and pictures to speak to both your logical mind and subconscious mind.Review your goal map daily, ideally in the first hour after waking, for at least 30 days.Write goals in personal, positive, present tense and focus on what you want, not what you don't want. For financial goals, pick a specific number based on the lifestyle you want, then build a plan around it.Resources & Next StepsGoal Mapping: Create a free goal mapDownload our FREE Pensions and Inheritance Tax GuideWealthBuilders Membership: Free access to guides, webinars, and communityConnect with Us:Listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, and all major platforms.Next Steps On Your WealthBuilding Journey:  Join the WealthBuilders Facebook CommunitySchedule a 1:1 call with one of our teamBecome a member of WealthBuildersIf you have been enjoying listening to WealthTalk - Please Leave Us A Review!

Childhood Trauma, Memory Release, and a 12-Step Path to Healing with Richard Tierney

On Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik Chakraborty speaks with Richard Tierney, founder of Tierney Therapy and creator of Trauma Recovery Anonymous, about reframing childhood trauma and releasing the grip of painful memories in the present. Richard outlines a cause-and-effect view of trauma, a focused “give the past back” process, and a 12-step framework to unlearn survival behaviors. The conversation is direct, challenges common assumptions about lifelong treatment models, and offers pragmatic language people can use to separate their current identity from earlier experiences—without minimizing the reality of what happened. This summary is optimized for search across YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. About the Guest  : Richard Tierney is a trauma recovery coach and author of How to Live Stress and Anxiety-Free 24 Hours a Day. His work centers on teaching families to interpret emotions as survival signals and to practice simple, repeatable actions that restore safety, agency, and spiritual alignment Key Takeaways :   Trauma expresses as effects (anxiety, flashbacks, shutdown), but healing requires addressing the cause—not only chasing symptoms. Separating present identity from past experiences can reduce shame and hopelessness; you are not the same person who endured the event. A structured process to “return” the weight of the past to your younger self can create a felt sense of relief and closure. Unlearning survival behaviors is a skill set: boundaries, regulation, safe relationships, and daily practices that reinforce safety now. Hope is practical: short, repeatable steps done consistently (journaling, mentoring/sponsorship, peer groups) compound change. Language matters: shifting from “I am broken” to “I carried what I didn't need to” reframes agency and next actions. Connection heals: finding a values-aligned “tribe” reduces isolation and supports behavior change. Spiritual or values-based practices can help with meaning-making; choose approaches that respect your beliefs and clinical guidance. If you use or stop medications, do so only with licensed medical supervision; abrupt changes can be dangerous. For children and teens, developmentally appropriate support and safe caregivers are critical; avoid labeling feelings as pathology without professional assessment.   Medical Disclaimer: The content in this episode is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. This year I did something different: I prepped our homeschool year before  it started. Since we've added a new baby to our family, I knew I needed systems that would help us stay consistent, without relying on me to coordinate everything in the moment. We're using Alveary again, and after learning what worked (and what didn't) last year, I made four big changes to help this year run more smoothly. I switched from digital to print: I printed all of our lesson plans and materials so we can be screen-free and fully open-and-go. I organized lessons by day of the week: Every day has a folder and matching bookmarks so even my 5-year-old knows what to grab. I set things up for independence: Book covers, color coding, and book darts help the kids take more ownership (and reduces my mental load). I reset our school space: We cleaned out last year's work and made sure everything has a clear home so no one's asking me where things go. These changes have helped me feel calm, prepared, and ready for a more peaceful school year, even with a newborn in the mix.

She emphasizes setting clear goals for all language domains—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—and aligning them with the homeroom curriculum.Collaboration with homeroom teachers helps ensure goals are achievable, and sharing them with students boosts motivation. A mentor once told me, “Pay attention to what everyone else is doing, and do the opposite.” In other words….  Be the weirdo.  Parenting tip -> Share this insight with your kids. I did.  In a culture where kids feel more comfortable following the crowd and blending in (regardless of what consequences it may lead to), my kids are choosing to live a life that is set apart. They are different than most kids their age.  It takes courage to go against the norm, and to stand strong when others roll their eyes or make fun of what they think is strange and unusual….  But my kids know the reward is great. The payoff of being “weird” is worth it.  Join me on the podcast today, as I share 7 ways that my kids are weird in the eyes of the world, and why I'm perfectly okay with it.    —————   Find this Episode on the Blog | KatieHedrick.com/205   —————   Helpful Homeschool Things You Should Know About!    Check out the Step-by-Step Path to (easy!) I never thought I would do this…. But I did. And I'm GLAD I did.  I took the time to read a *gasp* fiction/fantasy novel. It's actually a big deal. Why? Because I'm a list making, box checking, type A, “don't do it if it might be a waste of time” kind of mom.  But when my 16 year old daughter suggested a summer book swap challenge, I knew I should say yes, even though it was going to require me to sit down and chill for HOURS…. The basis for the challenge was simple: She would choose a book for me to read (her favorite book, “The Goose Girl”) and I would choose a book for her to read (a personal growth book called “The Greatest Miracle in the World”). We had to read the books completely and finish before the end of summer.  We agreed to the terms and in July, I reluctantly sat down to read the first fiction book I'd held in my hands in years…. Maybe even decades…  What happened in the days that followed shocked me.  But like a good book, I won't give it all away here. You'll have to hit play on today's podcast to get the rest of the story….    —————   Find this Episode on the Blog | KatieHedrick.com/204    —————   Helpful Homeschool Things You Should Know About!    Check out the Step-by-Step Path to (easy!) 5 Big Mistakes Moms Make On the 5 Step Path from Surviving to Thriving [Episode 329]

As mothers, we often find ourselves navigating the challenging journey from merely surviving our days to truly thriving. Over the years, I've had the privilege of working with many amazing moms, and I've noticed some common pitfalls that can make this journey feel even more daunting.  Today, I'd like to share some insights to help smooth your path. In our latest podcast episode, we dive into the five biggest mistakes moms make as they transition from survival mode to thriving.  Here are the five key mistakes to consider: Focusing on Circle of Concern vs. Circle of Influence: It's crucial to distinguish between what you can control and what you can't. By redirecting your focus to your circle of influence, you empower yourself to make meaningful changes. When I was pregnant with my third baby, I found myself overwhelmed by everything outside my control. A wise friend encouraged me to focus on my circle of influence rather than my circle of concern. It was a life-changing moment that taught me to concentrate on what I could truly impact. This shift in perspective enabled me to put my energy into actions that mattered, rather than getting bogged down by things I couldn't change. Phone Scrolling: While it's a common escape, it can hinder your ability to think clearly, connect meaningfully with your family, and solve your problems with God. Reducing phone time can significantly improve your ability to cope and connect. Getting Stuck in Phases: Whether it's survival mode, normalizing routines, or exploring new interests, it's important to recognize when it's time to move on and adapt to new phases in your motherhood journey. I go into great detail about what it looks like to get stuck in each phase. Focusing on Suffering: It's easy to dwell on the hardships of motherhood, but shifting your mindset to focus on what you're learning and how you're growing can make a significant difference. Seeing challenges as opportunities for growth fosters resilience. This can't be rushed - it takes time to grieve or work through the emotions and realities of things being hard or different than you anticipated. But I have also learned that it is a skill set and a habit of thinking that can grow stronger with practice. Limiting Strategies to Simplify Life: I spent years thinking there are only a couple of ways to make life easier, like sending kids to Grandma's or eating out. However, there are countless strategies to improve your day-to-day, even without these conveniences. This is why I'm creating a brand new program, The Surviving to Thriving Toolkit! If you want to be the first to know any details and get on the waitlist, you can head over to https://thrivinginmotherhoodpodcast.com/toolkit. Additionally, if you're seeking more support and community, consider joining Mom Matters Too {https://thrivinginmotherhoodpodcast.com/mom-matters-too} where we work on micro habits together. Remember, every step forward, no matter how small, is a victory. Let's celebrate these wins together. I can't wait to hear about all the amazing things you are accomplishing!

Learning differences affect 1 in 5 American children today (according to CrossRiverTherapy.com). When they surface, it can throw parents for a loop. When Jennifer Mauser's youngest child started showing signs of dyslexia, Jennifer began looking for answers. Jennifer's child grew up to become a wonderful learner and she recently graduated college! Jennifer joins me on the podcast today to share more about her family's story, as well as tips for how to spot learning differences and some wonderful resources that will support parents and children who may be navigating things like ADHD, dyslexia, and dysgraphia. ————— Find this Episode on the Blog | KatieHedrick.com/196 ————— Homeschool Goodies You Should Know About!  Apply for a Homeschool Mom Scholarship to Receive 1/2 Off your First Steps to Homeschool™ Tuition **Application Period ENDS AUGUST 1** | FirstStepsToHomeschool.com  Check out the Step-by-Step Path to Homeschooling (and Download your Free Curriculum Guide!) | TeachMeToHomeschool.com Grab a Seat at my (Free!) Story time! (How fitting for today's topic of language skills and literature?) It was the very first day of our homeschooling journey. The kids and I cracked open the Language Arts curriculum I'd chosen… I hadn't thought to pre-screen the material (rookie mistake) and I began to read the instructions out loud: “Circle all the prepositions.” Horrified, my kids and I stared at each other blankly and we all wanted to cry. “A prepo-what???”  I had pulled my kids out of public school, and coming from public school myself, none of us knew what in the world a preposition was.  I was the mom. I was the teacher. I was supposed to be leading this whole thing and I didn't even know what a preposition was!? I felt like a failure and I quickly realized that curriculum was NOT going to work for us.  I began desperately searching for an effective way to teach my kids language skills. Although my kids are quick learners, I knew this process was going to take divine intervention, because grammar seemed difficult to understand, and to teach. No one was inspired to write, nor did we have any kind of a system in place for learning how to do it well.  Enter the unsung hero: Mr. Andrew Pudewa, founder of the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW).  Mr. Pudewa had a system in place (“Structure and Style for Students”) that included easy-to-use videos, pre-selected source texts and key word outlines. On top of that, his charming personality stole the hearts of my kids and if I'm being honest, it stole my heart too.    Mr. Pudewa's method for helping homeschool families thrive was unlike anything I'd seen before. My kids became strong, inspired writers (and grammar wizards). Most importantly though, they fell in love with reading and writing and thinking.  When I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Pudewa in person, I quickly realized how authentic, engaging and witty he was. I invited him to join me on the podcast and he graciously agreed to share his time and expertise.  So, today you are in for an absolute treat! You can head to the podcast now to take in a conversation that is full of tips to help you cultivate language skills in your homeschool. Mr. Pudewa is sharing book recommendations, encouragement for homeschooling moms, one of his famous jokes and so much more!  Trust me when I say… this is a don't miss episode!
