Buzz explains how to select the right blank, guides, and components for different ice fishing techniques and target species. Building ice rods requires special techniques to stabilize the blank during wrapping to prevent bending. Buzz has taught thousands of students to build rods over the past 40 years, including through his work with Mud Hole. He discusses the challenges of building ice rods, which are short, thin, and flexible compared to open water rods. Ice rod blanks are made differently than typical tubular blanks, using a solid extrusion process. Buzz shares a DIY tool he developed to hold the blank steady. Other topics covered include guide selection, line choices, safety considerations for ice fishing, and recommendations for pre-built ice rods from manufacturers. Buzz provides detailed, practical advice for those new to ice rod building.

Super Capacitor ( Not Flux Capacitor) https://amzn.to/3coztIm - Used to start your car from a low battery. - Not for time travel - Could be better than a jump pack. - Will it work at -30 we are not sure - Never tried this but would like someone to and see how it works out on the ice or in the cold. Versa Auger Carrier https://icerunnerhouses.com/versa-auger-carrier/ - something to carry your auger outside of your ice shack on your snowmobile or ATV. - having quick access to your auger makes you more mobile. Mudhole.com - rod building supplies https://mudhole.com/ A place to get everything you need for ice fishing. ( no we are not sponsored, just a cool site) Ice Fishing Rod Trends We go in depth in ice fishing rods, we go down the rabbit hole. Ten pages of notes to talk about ice fishing rods, so buckle up. Action Blank Type Seat Eyelets Grip Guides Length - Weight is a big deal in a rod - bent handle rods are not talked about here, maybe called the duck Action From Overton's https://blog.overtons.com/fishing/how-to-choose-perfect-ice-fishing-rod Ultra-fast action: Rod bends only at the tip Fast-action: Rod bends only at the tip Medium-action: Rod bends to the middle of the blank Slow action: Rod bends to the bottom of the handle Rod Blank Fiberglass and Graphite are the two main options. Graphite is more popular and sensitive, but fiberglass still has a place in the ice fishing world. One of the main benefits of fiberglass is they are more durable than graphite, and you will have less broken rods. Jason compares rod quality to 100% orange juice and 5% juice. Pay attention to the action of the rod and not just the price. If you get a cheap combo that is slow action you are going to struggle. The action of the rod is more important than what it is made of at lower price points. We both agree that buying rods and reels separate is better than combos generally. Seat Jeff and Jason both agree that bands do not hold your reel on your rod. If you get a reel the best way to wrap your reel with electrical table then put the reel on and they put another layer electrical tape. That way you don't damage your cork. Low end rods typically come with a seat, high end rods do not. Eyelets/Guides Jason pays attention to the first guide, if its to small it freezes up. Having two different rods one for outside with bigger guides and smaller guides for inside. Heated Eyelets vs Not Jason found a patent for heated eyelets on a ice fishing rod. This could be great or the next jig up. Jeff imagines that this ice rod could look like a Ghostbusters proton pack. https://patents.justia.com/patent/20170325439 Split Grip v Full Grip Split grip is suppose to be lighter more sensitive, better balance and they look cool. Full grip is more traditional. Jason says it really does not matter when you have gloves on. Jeff is told by sales person at Cabela's that men of a certain age like the full grip, and was in that category. Jason recommends putting your finger on the line and take the rod out of the equation. Foam v Cork v Carbon Grip Jason and Jeff both prefer cork. EVA foam can be more durable than cork. Jason has found that if you take the plastic wrap off the cork before you use it you may feel the fish better. Even if the plastic makes your cork look nice longer. Carbon is something neither one of us has used, but think it might be pretty sensitive. Rod Covers and Lure Covers Use rod slicks and lure covers to keep your rods safe. Here is an example https://bit.ly/30FGTEH I also like the lure covers like these that allow you to keep the lures on without making a mess. https://amzn.to/3nsVcW2 I have not used this specific brand but have similar ones and they work great. Legend A legend from ice fishing related to a cell phone.

John wasn't the only one that did a little fishing while on vacation. Some thoughts about the bread of Life from the Northmoor Team Ministry
For the past five years, we've been in pursuit of the best fishing rod for catching our favorite inshore species (redfish, speckled trout, snook, flounder, mangrove snapper, and grouper). And through those years we've used a TON of different rods (some from big brands like St. Croix, G. Loomis, TFO, Ugly Stik, etc), some from middle sized brands (like Bull Bay) and some from smaller brands. We've even had quite a few custom rods made. So listen in as we share where we've been in terms of rods, what blanks we like the best, along with some rod new discoveries we've been testing. Enjoy!

The most common roadblock in living an intuitive life is the need for ultimate assurance. We can’t dance in the fire and play it safe. Sonia C, Sabrina and Sonia share stories for their clients and friends who got crystal clear guidance but don’t follow it. For most, it’s not enough to get a vibe, they want to know that their vibe is right - this is where we need to shift. Being sure isn’t what it’s all about because intuition isn’t “figuring it out” but following our Spirit for our Soul growth. Sonia, Sabrina, and Sonia tell stories of when their barking dogs had a lot to say but their intuition reassured them they were exactly where they needed to be. Living an intuitive life isn’t about living a charmed, hermetically sealed life - it's a life where our head and our hearts work together, instead of only our head being in charge. When we shift to our heart voice, we stop seeking approval from the outside and get our guidance from the inside. It’s about following the clues, listening to our inner voice as a clear voice instead of our head. The world of fishing rods and reels can be confusing. But if you walk into the store with a basic understanding of what you are looking for, that world doesn't seem so big and scary. On this episode, Paul and I go through the basic rundown of what you need to be looking for when it comes to your rod and reel set up. What are the different kinds of rods? Spinning? Baitcasting? Length? Power? Action? What are the different kinds of reels? Drag? Baitcasting? Mag brake? Spool Tension??? There is a ton of info here, but hopefully we can answer some of your basic questions. Hey there folks! We know it's been a rough few months since launch, but we're still hard at work over here at HWIDG Studios to give you guys the best experience that PODCAST: THE GAME can be. So, here's the list of updates we're rolling out today to address some issues that have popped up since the Season Four update.OPENINGWe've completely overhauled the beginning of the game to coincide with the "Flood" update. You'll see that the whole starting area is now underwater, giving you a whole new way to start your game.FEATURESTo go with the new opening area we've added both boat mechanics and fishing! Every player will start with a LV. 1 Rowboat and LV.1 Fishing Rod, and both of these will be upgradable via the new Flood Lootboxes. UPGRADESFlood Lootboxes are now available! Each one contains 5 random items ranging from common to Mythic Legendary. Every 10 levels each player will receive 1/10th of a Flood Lootbox piece, but in this update everyone will be granted 1 piece as a free gift! Flood Lootboxes will also be available to purchase for $99.99 per box, or $149.99 for a Flood Lootbox Pro+, which contains a 2% higher chance of earning a Mythic Legendary item! Some of these include the Diamond Merch Hat, Golden SM7b, LV.200 Todd Quips, and:* Speed Limits* Flying Bugs* Equality* F2P Mobile GamesSome things in life are just made to be broken, like: handles, Batman's spine, and speed limits. Only one of these is ever present on the road though. And for what? So Officer Dickhead can fill his quota because he's got nothing else to do otherwise? How 'bout you keep munchin on that donut instead and I'll get to where i'm going faster? Sammy Hagar got it right, and that's the only situation where you'll hear someone say something positive about Sammy Hagar, so you know he was on to something.Wings. The worst thing to happen to insects. We thought we were safe, with them so small and on the ground. But then the winged ones came. Are there some cool ones? Sure. Would I get rid of the 5 or so chill ones to get rid of the rest? Absolutely. Flies, gnats, mosquitoes, moths, wasps, cicadas, you name it, I hate it. They're already insufferable outside, so one gets inside? I'm the Terminator and anything with wings is named Sarah Connor. I will destroy you.Equality. We hear it all the time, that people should be equal. Should they though? One-size-fits-all is a terrible approach, 50% of the people wont mind it and the other 50% are left out. We should just accept that people are different and not try to squeeze everyone into the same mold. You know what you end up with when you combine all the colors together? A brown mess. And nobody wants a brown mess anywhere.Timers, gold coins, crystals, tokens, diamonds, bonus packs, daily log-in gifts, monthly subscription tiers, $99.99 BEST DEAL 2500 TOKENS, ads for other f2p games, lootboxes, random chance, rarities. You can usually find every single one of these things in a modern mobile free-to-play game. And they're terrible carrot-dangling, rubberbanding A.I timesinks that encourage you to put in a bit here or there until you've spent $1,500 trying to get that Platinum 5-Star Qui-Gon Jinn or what have you. Just absolutely terrible, now if you'll excuse me I need to grind out my 4-Star Limited Cover Howard the Duck. All that and more on this week's damp episode of the podcast. Show Notes: http://wetflyswing.com/52 I had the pleasure of interviewing Kelly Galloup, the man who changed the streamer game back in the day with the book Modern Streamers. Gene produced many of Kelly's DVD's through Fly Fish TV. Kelly wrote Modern Streamers which was a game changer in the streamer game back in the 1980's. Kelly notes his second book - Cripples and Spinners, which doesn't get talked as much about because of the popularity of the streamer book. The Zoo Cougar was Kelly's first big fly that was the start of a big change with streamers. Click the link above to watch Kelly tie it. Jim Teeny helped Kelly produce the first lines specifically for streamers back in the day. I note the Gary Borger podcast where he discusses being there in the early days where nymphing was frowned upon. Roman Moser started the beadhead madness back in the day. We talk about Gary Lafontaine and how he was probably 40 years ahead of his time in fly fishing. Here's an old youtube video with Gary. The Peanut Envy is another one of Kelly's popular patterns with a funny porn name. Joe Brooks had the Platinum Blonde fly pattern. Kelly wasn't the first person to come up with these types of names. Ray Schmidt was noted as a big Michigan guide. I interviewed John Gierach in this episode and I noted that I received some negative feedback for not going deep into fly fishing. We talk about the Fly Fisherman magazine article on the 50 most influential people in fly fishing. Kelly was not on the list and we talk about his take on this. John Randolph was the editor of Fly Fisherman magazine. Kelly describes his youtube channel in a few words. He didn't listen to the experts on youtube and went with his one process.
