Chapter 180: Forry, Not Forry, Luton, you Fcum. It's 8.06am on 10th January 2025 and the new year brings a welcome return of and to the podcast. Look who is here. It's ice cold out there on the frozen vulva of the Ftocean, but ftones must still be cleared. The FF have returned in force and it looks like this might be the end for our hero (presuming you're on Richard's side), but can he escape their clutches? There's no Morlocks or logdogs, but there are pink planes and fairies being consumed by canines and a surprising amount of stones cleared given the frost and opposition.
Dan and Ellen talk with Bill and Linda Forry, co-publishers of the award-winning Reporter Newspapers in Boston. Bill serves as editor, and Linda focuses on business development and strategic partnerships. The Reporter Newspapers include the weekly Dorchester Reporter as well as Boston Irish and BostonHaitian.com. The publications and their websites are part of a media business owned and operated by the Forry family since 1973. The Forrys were recently in the news. The Reporter is one of 205 news organizations in the U.S. to win an inaugural Press Forward grant to expand coverage of Boston's underserved communities. Dan has a Quick Take on public radio. Put bluntly, public radio is in trouble, and not just NPR, which may be our leading source of reliable free news, but also public radio stations across the country. An important recent essay in Nieman Reports argues that the way forward for public radio stations may be to double down on local news. Ellen's Quick Take is on the NiemanLab predictions for the media industry in 2025. Every year, NiemanLab asks a select group of people what they think is coming in the next 12 months. Sam Mintz, the editor of Brookline.News, a digital outlet Ellen helped launch, is one of the prognosticators.

On this show we brought back one of the oldest guests we've had on the show in Kyle Forry (Tin Can Locomotive) to talk about the wild side of music. We touched a bit on some recent losses of major social media pages run by our co-host Chip Slate, as well as a look into a community trying to do what's best for their community with their land, as well as a deep dive into the dark side of music. We talked about how musicians rise, why many die at 27, how they're co-opted, and more.Support the Show.

Right before Thanksgiving, the Trump Administration said it would end Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, for about 60,000 Haitians who've lived and worked legally in the US since Haiti was hit by a devastating 2010 earthquake. The expectation now is that they'll return to Haiti by July 2019 — and face deportation if they don't. The Scrum sat down with State Senator Linda Dorcena Forry, who's a Haitian American and that community's local standard-bearer, to discuss how she learned about the Trump Administration's decision; what she hopes will happen next; and whether she thinks Boston Mayor Marty Walsh might have to make good on his dramatic vow to shelter possible deportees inside Boston City Hall.

Imagine walking sunrise to sunset day after day for 2,650 miles through brutal winter weather. We're talking summiting gigantic frigid mountains, freezing cold river crossing, waist deep snow, without seeing other hikers for weeks at a time through intense wintry wilderness. Those are only a few of the obstacles Shawn Forry and his hiking partner Justin Lichter faced while successfully completing the very first WINTER thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail. Thru-hikes have always fascinated me. What it must feel like to immerse yourself into the wilderness with nothing but the winding trail for months at a time. In fact, every time I did a day hike on the Appalachian in Virginia I would unsuccessfully try to get into that headspace. Beyond the completely awesome story of the winter PCT, I was pumped to chat with Shawn just so I could nerd out on some of the billion of questions I had for an experienced thru-hiker. On this week's episode Shawn shares stories from the winter PCT trek, explains how his thru hiking career began and the factors that drive him to continue, how he's created a mindset that helps push him through seemingly insurmountable adversity, and so much more! After reading Shawn's history on his website www.shawnforry.com, I have to honestly believe he is one of the most experienced thru-hikers in the world having trekked over 20,000 miles in various countries over the last 14 years. The Appalachian Trail, the Pacific Crest, Continental, El Camino De Santiago, Hayduke, Great Himalaya Trail, are some of the highlights of his extremely impressive resume. Shawn was a pleasure to talk to and I hope that this inspires you to get outside and immerse yourself in the beauty of a local trail....or do a really long walk....or realize that you have the power within you to achieve a seemingly impossible goal! Enjoy the convo and we'll get back at you next week!!

MONSTER PARTY celebrates the granddaddy of horror/fantasy/sci-fi fandom, and his remarkable legacy! JAMES GONIS, SHAWN SHERIDAN, LARRY STROTHE, and MATT WEINHOLD, ring in the holidays with a topic that should touch the palpitating heart of every Monsterpartier... FORRY ACKERMAN & THE MONSTER KID GENERATION!!! In case you've been hiding under a gravestone, the late FORREST J ACKERMAN was a science fiction writer, literary agent, and editor of the first ongoing monster magazine, FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND! Known as Uncle Forry to his friends, Ackerman was one of the most active proponents of fantastic films and fiction, and practically single handedly started science fiction fandom! Forry was also known for his massive collection of genre treasures, and would often give fans a tour of the "Ackermansion." Helping us to understand the impact that Forry left on a generation is writer/FX artist/Polynesian entertainer/studio vocalist/dark ride designer... JOE MOE! Joe took care or Forry during the last years of his life, and gives us a unique perspective on the man, as well doing the definitive Forrest J Ackerman impression! If that were not enough, the gang is also joined by actress BARBARA LEIGH, star of such films as PRETTY MAIDS ALL IN A ROW, JUNIOR BONNER (alongside her then boyfriend Steve McQueen), and the cult classic TERMINAL ISLAND. But, Barbara may be best known by horror fans, as the first and best, live action cover model for VAMPIRELLA magazine! And don't miss out on our special new segment: THE MONSTER PARTY GIFT GIVING GUIDE! To paraphrase Uncle Forry, "Take this podcast home monster kids, you will love it!"

Shawn Forry may in fact be the most interesting man in the world. As an Outward Bound wilderness instructor, he takes both children and adults on backpacking and climbing expeditions. During the winter, he runs scenic interpretive tours with 10 dog sled teams. He’s also a hiker. This past winter he and Justin Lichter became the first people ever to thru hike the Pacific Crest Trail in the winter.
This week's episode features an opening song by Facineh just repeating my name over and over in strange ways. My guest is the beautiful and talented Natasha Forry a Vancouver local on her way to New York.
The Life After Death Project is a new documentary that was shown on Syfy in May. The just-released Collector's Edition 2-DVD Set includes a sequel film (The Life After Death Project 2 - Personal Encounters). Together, these films, from award-winning filmmaker Paul Davids, explore evidence for life after death and After Death Communication (ADC) from physical evidence, synchronicities, mediums, personal testimonies and Instrumental Transcommunication (ITC), which is the use of modern technology to communicate with spirits. In the first film, the focus is on strange, apparently paranormal events that several university scientists conclude may be communication from Forrest J Ackerman, who died December 4, 2008 at age 92. Ackerman was a Los Angeles, California-based magazine editor, science fiction writer and literary agent, a founder of science fiction fandom and possibly the world's most avid collector of genre books and movie memorabilia. He was the editor and principal writer of the American magazine Famous Monsters of Filmland, as well as an actor and producer from the 1950s into the 1980s. He was also an atheist. He did not believe in life after death, but told friends that if he was wrong, he would drop them a line. I talked with writer, producer, director Paul Davids about these documentaries and what happened to him. Paul is an accomplished author, filmmaker, and artist, who was a close friend of Forry Ackerman and who experienced many unexplained incidents that began around the time of a large tribute in Hollywood for "Forry." He took physical evidence to science departments at three universities for research, and the results were astonishing, leading Professor and author Gary E. Schwartz to conclude this may be the best case of After Death Communication on record. This is a very interesting and original piece of work. You can find more about the documentary at www.lifeafterdeathproject.com, you can check out Paul's art at www.pauldavids-artist.com, and some more tech inspired work at www.hackharddrive.com. You can also check out some of his other movies at www.jesusinindiathemovie.com and www.beforewesaygoodbye.com. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
