With the rise in AI and all kinds of new technology, what does the future of construction look like? When AI first came into light, most people out in the world though that hard labor blue collar jobs would be the first type of jobs getting replaced by robots. That isn't the case now though! It's being shown that the first types of jobs getting replaced by robots are minimum wage jobs along with office jobs. Blue collar jobs will be the last one to get replaced by technology because every job every single way is different than the previous day. It takes critical thinking and skill to master blue collar jobs. As the future gets closer and technology rises, blue collar jobs will become more and more valuable overtime.   Connect with us! Q&A: How to disconnect from work everyday??

Construction Royalty

Throwback to another popular episode! Shoutout to Zach Harris from Hart Srone Studio & Design from Austin, Tx for bringing us this topic to discuss!   There's a huge controversial discussion about disconnecting from work everyday. Most people think of work as this bad and unhealthy thing that they must leave at the front door of their office when they clock out for the day or something they leave locked away in their laptop if they work from home. These same most people believe they can't mix and combine work and the rest of their lives. I believe we can and I believe that we should. Of course there's exeptions to this. As you probably know by now, I don't follow most of the shit that we have accepted as our "normal" especially the work/ life balance bullshit. If you hate what you do for a living and it causes you huge amounts of stress, then of course you wouldn't want to involve your family in that negativity. On the contrary though, if you absolutely love what you do for a living and you have a bigger purpose than just yourself or your place of work, then why wouldn't you have your family also apart of something so amazing? Listen carefully to our thoughts on this topic and let us know your thoughts about it!   Connect with us! Website

In May 2024, Yanni Tsipis was watching as his team prepared to pour a low-carbon version of concrete — one that had never been used in a commercial project. As senior vice president of WS Development, he was in charge of the team building Boston's largest net-zero office building for operating emissions (not embodied emissions), and he had spearheaded an effort to use a new type of low-carbon cement from a startup called Sublime Systems. It's hard to understate how big of a deal it is for the construction industry to try a new version of cement. It's the glue that holds concrete particles together, and the recipe used today has barely changed since 1824. It's incredibly versatile stuff, but making it accounts for nearly 8% of global emissions, so there's pressure on the industry to clean up. But with the literal foundations of buildings, bridges, and roads at stake, you can understand why the industry might be slow to change.  But Yanni's team wanted to try.  In this episode, Lara talked to Yanni about the journey to the first commercial deployment of this low-carbon cement. He talks about the economics of cement, securing enough material in time to meet construction deadlines, and earning buy-in from WS Development's internal team, plus their long list of contractors and subcontractors. It's a case study in finding the right customer for a first-of-a-kind climate tech project. Credits: Hosted by Lara Pierpoint. Produced by Daniel Woldorff and Erin Hardick. Are you looking to build an aesthetic workplace with a calm environment, pleasing background, and radiation of good vibes? Mass timber can bring that vision to life. Today, our guest is Ricardo Brites, Director of Engineering & VDC at Mercer Mass Timber, a wood product manufacturing company in British Columbia. He is a committed structural engineer who is passionate about sustainability and innovation. He specializes in solid and mass timber structures. He brings a lot of scholarly rigor and real-world experience to every project. He holds a PhD in structural engineering from Universidade do Minho, Portugal. Join us as we dive into the world of mass timber and learn how mass timber can change the aesthetic of your workplace. We start the conversation by comparing the cost of other materials to mass timber, where Ricardo explains how it depends on the area. Then Ricardo describes the benefits of using mass timber, including being much lighter than concrete, as fast to assemble as steel frames due to its prefabricated nature, and requiring a smaller installation crew. We then pay attention to the two biggest mistakes of mass timber: the high possibility of burning and moisture and the degradation that can happen to the wood. In this phase, we talk about the reason for the low adaptation of mass timber in the USA and the role the technological revolution plays in that regard. We also talk about the aesthetic benefits of mass timber, such as a calm environment, a beautiful background, and the radiation of a good vibe. Furthermore, we dive into the limitations of mass timber and what the future will look like for Mercer Mass Timber.   EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS [05.13] Cost of mass timber in comparison to other materials.  [07.36] Benefits of mass timber.  [10.03] Quality of mass timber in comparison to the quality of steel.  [11.06] The longevity of a wood panel.  [12.27] The biggest misconception about mass timber.  [15.13] Geographic variations and the usage of mass timber.  [16.19] The reasons for lower adaptation of mass timber in the USA than in other countries.  [21.15] Esthetic benefits of mass timber.  [22.15] Limitations of mass timber.  [24.13] Expanding mass timber.  [28.06] Mass timber in mainstream and commercial construction.  [28.47] Mercer mass timber.    TIPS & TOOLS TO IMPLEMENT TODAY Be aware of the misconceptions about mass timber.  Geographic variations don't affect the mass timer usage.  There's a psychological effect to mass timber.  Explore Hybrid Solutions.
