The link between a college funding crisis and the future of jobs is becoming clear. We look closely at UHI Perth, and at Nescol in Aberdeen, Peterhead and Fraserburgh to see what it means. If they can't train the workers of the future, what's the point of worrying about that fabled energy industry 'just transition' anyway? “He does it…Marino Keith!”From Peterhead to Plymouth, Marino Keith was a hero in Green and part of the crop of Argyle players who won two championships.Growing up in Aberdeenshire he made his professional bow later than most. After a strong performance in the Highland Leagues for Fraserburgh, he got his dream move to boyhood club Dundee United. After spells at Falkirk and Livingston, Marino ventured about as south as south goes and joined Argyle in the November of 2001.In his first season he helped Argyle clinch promotion from Division Three, scoring in the clincher at Rochdale. He was never prolific but was a scorer of important goals at important times. None more so than on a Tuesday night in December 2003, poking home the winner against Swindon Town – cue incredible scenes in the away end.Unfortunately, injury cut his career short but Marino, who had spent hours on the team coach studying computing, now is the managing director of Xeretec. This is the story of Marino Keith.

Manager Colin Charlesworth reacts to our defeat at Fraserburgh
Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Simon Coveney TD, is in Scotland to visit Kincardine Floating Offshore Wind Farm and the Fraserburgh Operations and Maintenance Centre for Moray East Offshore Wind Farm. Ireland has an ambition to have 5GW of offshore wind in operation by 2030 with a further 2GW in development. By 2040, the ambition is to have 20GW of offshore wind deployed with the target rising to 37GW by 2050. Looking for Irish inspiration for offshore wind farms Speaking during the visit, Minister Coveney said; "Scotland has already developed several offshore wind farms and there is much we can learn from their experiences. This visit has been hugely informative in terms of seeing at first hand the technology in operation and hearing from industry experts ahead of publishing our own offshore wind industrial strategy. "We also discussed the potential for collaboration between Ireland and Scotland on a range of offshore wind-focussed matters such as building a successful supply chain and optimising Research, Development and Innovation (RD&I) initiatives." Kincardine is 15 kilometres off the coast of Aberdeen and is the largest floating offshore windfarm in the world. Fraserburgh is the nerve centre for the 950MW Moray East Offshore Wind Farm, operated by Ocean Winds. The visit was facilitated by Bord na Móna and Ocean Winds, who have formed a partnership to leverage Ireland's offshore wind power resources. The Minister also met with representatives from Principle Power, who have designed floating platforms for offshore wind turbines and Farra Marine, an Irish company involved in providing crew transfers to the offshore wind farms. Minister Coveney added; "The operations centre here in Fraserburgh is a good example of how developments like this can impact positively on a small coastal community, providing jobs and other economic benefits. As we develop wind farms around our coast there will be opportunities for local communities in terms of operating and maintaining these facilities as well as transporting workers to and from installations." The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment is currently developing Ireland's first Offshore Wind Industrial Strategy and it is expected to be published next month. Its publication will be in tandem with the publication of the Offshore Renewable Energy Future Framework Policy Statement by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications. Further Information Kincardine Offshore Wind Farm was constructed at what was a symbolic time for the decarbonization of the energy sector in the UK. It's the largest floating offshore wind farm in the world with the most powerful turbines installed on a floating offshore wind platform. Projects like Kincardine inform the next generation of industrial-scale, cost-competitive floating wind projects in the UK and globally. Each of the five V164 9.5 MW turbines deployed at the wind farm incorporates three 80 m blades being fabricated at the MHI Vestas Offshore Wind's factory on the Isle of Wight, then painted and finished at its Fawley facility, a decommissioned and repurposed former oil-fired power plant. The turbines are installed on five WindFloat units fabricated in Spain. The platform-turbine integration took place at Rotterdam port. Fabrication of the five WindFloat units started in April 2019. At 50 MW installed capacity in the summer of 2021, and with a pandemic in between, the project showcases the logistical advantages of Principle Power's technology over other designs. The?WindFloat's modular design enables an industrialized supply chain to be mobilized. The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (DETE) plays a key role in implementing the Government's policies of stimulating the productive capacity of the economy and creating an environment which supports job creation and maintenance. The Department has lead responsibility for Irish policy on global trade and inward investment and a remit to promote fai...

When all but one of the Fraserburgh lifeboat crew were lost in 1970, thousands attended the funeral. Vic Sutherland on the tragedy that sadly wasn't the lifeboat station's first Outside Scotland's first RNLI lifeboat station stands a statue of a lifeboat crew member watching over Fraserburgh harbour. The memorial – donations for which came from as far afield as Canada and Australia – stands as a tribute to the 13 lifesavers lost in three separate tragedies. In 1919, two volunteers were swept overboard from the Lady Rothes. Six more were lost in 1953. And when five of the six crew perished in the 1970 disaster, Fraserburgh went without a lifeboat station until 1978. Current RNLI Coxswain / Mechanic Vic Sutherland reveals the toll the losses took on the local community. 200 Voices is produced by Adventurous Audio for the RNLI Interview by Adventurous Audio Soundtrack composed and performed by Jon Nicholls The RNLI is a charity celebrating 200 years of saving lives at sea - find out more at RNLI.org/200
Huntly came from behind to move up to second with a 4-1 win over Fraserburgh. It was the first time the black and gold's had beaten their opponent at Christie Park in the league since August 2012 as Allan Hale was pleased with the three points earned. It was a third league game without a win for Fraserburgh as Manager Mark Cowie admitted the goals they lost were costly.
In 1915, seas carried extra danger. After a steamer is sunk by a submarine, RNLI lifeboat Lady Rothes is launched. Fraserburgh Sea Cadets pick up the story The champagne had barely dried on Fraserburgh's newly named lifeboat, when her crew were called into the fray of a First World War rescue. The Lady Rothes had just been donated to the town by the Countess of Rothes' father, grateful that his daughter had survived the 1912 Titanic disaster. On 8 August 1915, the lifeboat's volunteer crew launched after a German submarine was sighted 15 miles offshore. Fraserburgh's first motor lifeboat was about to claim its first rescue. 200 Voices is produced by Adventurous Audio for the RNLI Narration courtesy of the Fraserburgh Sea Cadets Soundtrack composed and performed by Jon Nicholls The RNLI is a charity celebrating 200 years of saving lives at sea - find out more at RNLI.org/200

The Murder of James Bulger & Muswell Hill Murderer Dennis Nilsen The Murder of Toddler James Bulger - His name was James Bulger and was a month short of his 3rd birthday in February 1993. James's mother, 25 year old Denise Bulger, would take him shopping for the day at the Bootle Strand Shopping Center in Merseyside, England. The shopping trip was pretty standard for James and his mom with their final stop being at the butcher's shop. James was at his end with shopping for the day, squirming and fussing in Denise's arms. With no line at the shop Denise figured it wouldn't take very long. With the butcher making an order mistake and Denise needing to pay she let go of James's hand for a minute. When she went to leave with James he was gone. Scared and flustered Denise cried “I was only in the shop a few seconds. I turned round and he'd gone.” Muswell Hill Murderer Dennis Nilsen The story of the horrors the so-called Muswell Hill Murderer Dennis Nilesn unleashed in London 40 years ago had given him the nickname the “British Jeffrey Dahmer”. Nilsen was born in Fraserburgh, Scotland on November 23, 1945. He was the middle child of three to his Scottish mother and Norwegian father. Nilsen, according to his mother, was a quiet boy but still adventurous. In his youth he'd grow up with a rocky marriage between his parents, which would end with his father walking out on the family when he was 4-years-old. Produced by The Wild 1 Media.
