we have no special guest, however, we still had plenty to discuss. Orlando City B took center stage early this week with a rare Monday night match against New York Red Bulls II. The Young Lions jumped out to an early lead, fell behind by halftime, and managed to stage a comeback to claim all three points. OCB remains unbeaten at home in 2023 after a wild match that of course featured some Jack Lynn heroics. We discuss the Young Lions' win over the Baby Bulls and Lynn's torrid streak. Also, we've had more Shak Mohammed sightings recently, as the 19-year-old Ghanaian has been playing better of late with OCB and he scored his first professional goal on Monday night to win the match. It's a great sign from the Generation Adidas draft pick and we look forward to watching his continued development. After our OCB recap, we opened up the mailbagbox to find a question about Ted Lasso. Don't worry, we handled it with care to keep listeners spoiler-free. Remember, if there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we previewed Orlando City's upcoming match Saturday night at Red Bull Arena. We included our key matchups and score predictions as the senior Lions take on New York on the road. Here's how No. 349 went down: 0:15 – The Young Lions get top billing for this episode. That's new. 16:43 – The mailbagbox believes! Our thoughts on Coach Beard's revelation from the show's penultimate episode (without spoiling the revelation for those who are behind). 30:41 – Key matchups were unanimous and we've got score predictions for the Lions at the Red Bulls. After a win at Philadelphia, Orlando City's homecoming wasn't a fun one Saturday, but if one looks beyond the scoreline of the Lions' 2-0 loss to Nashville SC, the performance didn't match the result. The Lions — for the most part, anyway — controlled the match, generated the most chances, and honestly should have scored a couple of goals. They didn't. Instead, they got caught twice by the visitors, who created only a few chances, but converted on two of them, and the first was a gift. We break down a frustrating home loss but we also aren't ready to call for anyone's head just yet, and we explain why. We also select our Man of the Match picks and look forward to Orlando getting healthy and rested for a meeting on April 15 with Minnesota United on the road. We don't normally talk about OCB second, but the Young Lions are the club's only undefeated professional side after a 2-1 win over Huntsville City in the club's home opener. Alex Freeman scored both goals for OCB and the team was albe to withstand a lot of pressure against the visitors to improve to 2-0-0. Speaking of Freeman, he joined us as this week's guest and we asked him about his experiences in camp, what Oscar Pareja has told him he needs to do better to get first-team minutes, how he adjusts to playing for OCB and then quickly changing gears for international play, and much more. Big thanks to Alex for coming on the show and to a couple of our Founders for submitting some questions. The Pride dropped a heartbreaker in their home opener but man, did they ever create some scoring chances against Angel City. The visitors had to rely on a penalty and a last-gasp header, in addition to numerous missed opportunities by the home team to take three points out of Exploria Stadium for the first time. Ally Watt had a rough match in front of goal but better days lie ahead if Seb Hines can get that kind of performance out of his team each week. We also discussed NWSL expansion and the Pride's recent signing of three young additions to the team. The OCSC academy teams won their groups at the Generation Adidas tournament and will be in action today as a result. It's always nice to see the kids doing well against difficult competition. Finally, we dove into our mailbagbox, which asked us about bar brawls, how Orlando City spends money on players, and (of all things) the Tampa Bay Rowdies' home crowd. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 333 went down: 0:15 – The Lions dropped a game they could have won (but didn't) and a lot of people are upset about it. We're going to try to stay rational and positive for the time being and explain why others should do so too. 41:41 –Alex Freeman scored twice and that really made us want to talk to him. So we did. 54:16 – The Pride played better but got the same result, although wit Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Orlando City remained unbeaten in preseason with a comeback draw against the Colorado Rapids this week. We didn't get to see the match or get many details, but if you think that's going to stop us from talking about it, you grossly underestimate our ability to talk about things. The Lions also welcomed one of their missing pieces, as Rafael Santos has arrived in the City Beautiful, so that's good. The Lions and Pride are still without a key player each as of this writing, but they'll be along at some point. We think. In the meantime, Orlando City signed one of the two rookies in camp who weren't already signed. Abdi Salim has earned his first professional contract and he signed that on Tuesday. We await the expected signing of forward Duncan McGuire. If you're wondering about Shak Mohammed, he's already signed by being a Generation Adidas player. The U.S. Men's National Team is returning to Exploria Stadium, looking to stay perfect in the Purple Palace. We discuss the Yanks coming to town in March to face El Salvador in Concacaf Nations League play and why it's important for USMNT fans to get their tickets as early as possible. The Orlando Pride sustained a major injury blow during preseason camp in Port St. Lucie, as defender Carrie Lawrence suffered a torn ACL and is out indefinitely. While we don't know how long indefinitely means — exactly — we do know that torn ACLs right before the season are not a great thing. The Pride also got their regular-season and NWSL Challenge Cup schedule for 2023. We welcome the schedule makers back from whatever pocket dimension they visit during that way-too-long process, even if they did stick the Pride on the road against the defending league champs on opening day. Again. Finally, we looked in our mailbag, in which our listeners asked us about what player's name they should get on their new kit, the new Flash movie, pregame/postgame/goal music in the stadium, and more. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 326 went down: 0:15 - The Lions keep racking up preseason results — this time with more Beefy Swede in the lineup. 20:43 - The Pride can't seem to go into the season without a knee getting torn up. 41:11 - The mailbagbox is full again and we're having way too much fun, even if it means we're being way too silly. Finally... the boys HAVE COME BACK... to Filimonster Studios! It's episode 76, and the Defenders are back in Burbank to record their latest episode. The 2020 MLS SuperDraft is upon us, and Filly and The Scarf look to attack it from all angles. Before tackling the draft, it's time to get up to speed on all the LAFC news and notes from the last 10 days. We say goodbye to Fito, and wonder what could have been. We welcome back Jordan Harvey and Dejan Jakovic for season 3. We congratulate Tristan Blackmon, the greatest draft pick in LAFC history, on his new contract! And we begin the slow countdown to our first preseason match, the friendly against Uruguayan powerhouse Peñarol, on January 25th. Get your tickets! We also take a quick look at the previous two drafts LAFC has been a part of. Seven picks in two years, with four playing minutes for the big club! With LAFC picking 24th overall in 2020, we take a look at the history of the 24th pick. Hint: It's not great. Filly educates us all on what it means to be a Generation Adidas player as we look at the class of 2020. While his Hoosier goes #2, its goalkeeper Paulo Pita to the Black and Gold at number 24. Finally we have another keeper! With one more pick in the first two rounds, LAFC brings in a Michigan man, forward Jack Hallahan. Stay tuned to hear who LAFC adds in rounds 3 and 4 after Monday's picks are in!We round out the episode with a look at LAFC's first eMLS athlete, Martin "Remimartinn" Oregel, as he takes to the sticks for the first time for LAFC in Philadelphia. We've also got a great season-long partnership with Free Play and ThinkWatts that you'll hear all the details of! It wouldn't be an episode of Defenders without some ridiculousness. We take on Apollonia's Pizza after a recommendation from new friend of the pod Alexis Guerreros! Dry January? No thank you. What do the Tampa Bay Rowdies, the greatest draft pick in Montreal Impact history, a 5'8" soccer player at Cal State LA, Scarf falling at work, and Filly coming up with a brand new cheer for a player who never signed a contract with LAFC have in common? They are ALL a part of Episode 76 of Defenders of the Banc!Is the Banc open yet?!?

"As a designer, we think as a brand...so I always try to make myself a brand." Olivia Brestal is a multi-talented midwestern creative that grew up in the soccer capitol of the U.S., so it's only fitting she has spent the entirety of her post-grad career creating for professional soccer clubs. As a sr. designer & photographer for Sporting KC, Olivia joins the podcast to discuss how she developed her work's aesthetic, her inspirations in illustration and sports photography, and her move to Texas where she worked for FC Dallas. We touch on the unfortunate practice of stealing fonts, the sameness of visual aesthetic in sports, design criticism and the needless sensitivity most sports designers have with their work being critiqued. Olivia also gives us some insight into how they are faciliating a creative culture among their creative team including their office environmental decoration. Lastly, we go deep into the world of soccer (football for non-U.S. listeners) discussing everything from the growth of soccer in the U.S., our favorite boots, youth development programs and how the visual aesthtetic of soccer leagues like the MLS and Premier League are the best top-to-bottom aesthetically in the world of sport.   Today's episode Chris P @NYCFCFan and Chris M @_ChrisFC who we all know as Perpetual Student on the NYCFC sub-reddits joins the show to discuss the historic first playoff match New York City FC had against Toronto FC. After the 2-0 loss many questions popped up in regards to Patrick Vieira's decision before and during the match. These questions all start off with Patrick's starting 11 lineup choice. We provide our input as to why Patrick started Mikey Lopez, Federico Bravo, Eirik Johansen and how all three fared. During one portion of the game David Villa is seen in mid-air kicking a Toronto FC players back. The ref did not call a foul but upon review the MLS still did not suspend Villa for that incident. Why not? Where there's smoke there fire....but did a only-players meeting really take place between New York City FC even after many players themselves said it never happened? Chris P also goes in depth about his experience at the press box section in BMO Field and the poor food options there. Leg 2 against Toronto FC is Sunday at 6:30pm. It's a big day for New York City FC as it's the first home playoff match and the first ever playoff match played in New York for an MLS team! Can NYCFC make it to the next round? How will public transportation be with the New York City Marathon taking place the same day? Another topic on our miscellaneous bucket is the #suppportyourcity movement you see all across social media. It's great promotion and a good step to creating a better relationship with political figures and the men and women who service our City. Especially when we need to find a place to build a stadium. We wrap up the show mentioning the National call ups Ronald Matarrita and Tony Taylor both have for their respective countries. Jack Harrison being protected from the expansion draft due to his graduation from Generation Adidas and the yearly honors the MLS gives away in which Villa, Frank Lampard and Harrison have been nominated. Oh and we play Trick or Treat with a couple of questions. Sport is a way to learn more about who we are — how we handle success, failure, pain, loss, friendships, challenges and opportunities. In this upcoming conversation, sport becomes the initial “handshake” that has allowed us to talk about the deeper experiences in life — freedom, love, risk, and family. Popularly known as Baggio, Adis Husidić was born in Velika Kladuša, SFR Yugoslavia (present-day Bosnia and Herzegovina). Baggio and his family fled Bosnia in the mid-1990s to escape the Bosnian War, spending time in a refugee camp in southern Croatia, and living in Hamburg, Germany for several years, before eventually settling in Libertyville, Illinois in 1997. Husidić was drafted in the second round (20th overall) of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft by the Chicago Fire, and signed a Generation Adidas contract. He is currently a member of the Los Angeles Galaxy, In this conversion he shares his love for life, his unique path, and his search for meaning and mastery.

It is MLS SuperDraft week, and that means that it is time for our yearly chat with Top Drawer Soccer's Travis Clark, the expert on all things college soccer. We talk about Cyle Larin, Cristian Roldan, and the other top players in the draft, the depth (or lack thereof) of talent in this draft, and the various goalkeepers in the draft (and where D.C. United should take them). We then ask Travis about picking for need versus picking the best available player, the Generation Adidas class this year, prospects from around greater DMV area, the effect of USL PRO, and whether or not there are any D.C. United Academy players who might sign soon. After we bid farewell to Travis, we turn our attention to D.C. United news. We talk about SB Nation's mock SuperDraft, the signing of Markus Halsti, how Halsti will fit in with Perry Kitchen and Davy Arnaud, the callup of Steve Birnbaum and Perry Kitchen to the USMNT, the Concacaf Champions League, and United's coaching changes. It is a jam-packed show, so give it a listen! Note: There is some joking about the Metro in this podcast, before we knew the full seriousness of the tragedy. We apologize for the tastelessness of the joke.
