PLS NOTE: The subject of sexual assault is discussed in this podcast. Geoff Clarke has faced court numerous times in his life but its his greed & total disregard of others, particularly his own people, that finally led to him being convicted & sentenced in 2024 to a term of imprisonment for fraud & financial related crimes. It took years, but his luck finally ran out. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The world, as we know it, has changed since Reopening the Wormhole disappeared. In the multi-year absence of America's Favorite Podcast, society has begun to crumble; systems have collapsed, governments have disintegrated, and the world order feels like a distant memory. Is it too late for humanity to be saved? Is the return of RTW too little, too late? We can only hope that it's not, as we release the next in our Tongo Wheel experience: the classic TNG episode Captain's Holiday! Recorded all the way back in 2023 (oh how young and naive we once were), this episode sees the Ferenginator Kregg joining the RTW hosts to talk about Picard Indiana Jonesing his way through adventure, love, and irascible Ferengi shenanigans. Can this delayed release atone for RTW's prolonged absence, or will it remain one last gasp of hope for a dying race? Time will tell… Be on the lookout for a Pissedcard Smackdown, and an epic rap by Jack. And rejoice for the beautiful, easy banter of a bygone era. VASH THE STAMPEDE!!! Dim the lights and put on some popcorn, it's movie night at Jaxilly! And the loudmouths in the theater this time are none other than Jack, Geoff, and Sean (with a special unbilled guest star (OK, it's Sam)) showing up to use Crisis Point 2 to reflect on movie tropes, endless quote the Simpsons, talk about the hottest pop culture (of late 2024), and remember that ANDOR makes this a double feature! JAXILLY WILL RETURN.
As Indy travels across the pond to investigate an ancient artifact discovered at Stonehenge, we welcome our Canadian Correspondent Geoff Clarke back to the pod to hear about his history with issue 5 of this series, to lament the death of Star Wars, and to Find Our Fate, with our uncle Indiana Jones. Do you: Listen to the podcast: Press play to listen to Sam, Brian, and Geoff discuss Indiana Jones television and comics. A long-forgotten experiment awakens to wreak havoc upon the Vong-infested surface of Coruscant. Does Aaron Allston's experiment in NJO storytelling deserve to be forgotten too, or is there a place for Lord Nyax's brand of monster-of-the-week thrills? Completing our A-Team once again is Geoff Clarke, who's here to help us decide, as well as to debate the nadir of Star Wars cinema and the correct pronunciation of Hapan royalty.
Aaron Allston brings big Wraith Squadron energy to the New Jedi Order, and proves that actually explaining the politics of a Resistance in Star Wars is quality matériel, not something JJ Abrams should have reduced to ejecta! Our Canuck co-pilot Geoff Clarke rejoins the podcast's Inner Circle, so naturally we cook up some more CanCon conversation, including what constitutes the layers of a Hayden Christensen sandwich...
CanCon connoisseur Geoff Clarke genuflects with us before author Greg Keyes, who keys into the precise kind of New Jedi Order entry we've been demanding: an intimate character study with a healthy dose of sympathetic Vong (sorry, Yuuzhan Vong) to root for. It's also a surprising love letter to those Junior Jedi Knights children's books... with added violence and despair!
Your two best star friends turn their eyes to the world of 70's and 80's film, as they pit four different Star Wars rip-offs against each other in a true battle beyond the Star Wars! We've watched and will discuss the high highs and lows lows of Message From Space, Starcrash, Battle Beyond the Stars, and The Man Who Saved the World (better known as Turkish Star Wars)! And who better to join us for a discussion of low budget sci-fi cinema of the past than our Canadian correspondent, Geoff Clarke? All that, plus we're giving our initial impressions of Ahsoka! May the Varda be with you!

It's another ApeCast Lower Dex outing, as Jack and Geoff talk about K'Ranch and other silly condiments, as well as the return of Martok (in bootleg Ferengi form!), the appeals of low-key comedy with heart, and list as many variations on “The Most Dangerous Game” as they can remember. It's the best podcast out there not hosted by a sentient volcano, a telepathic baby, and a super-intelligent computer.

Narelle Fraser was a member of Victoria Police for 27 years, 15 of those as a Detective ‘doing time' at the Rape and Homicide Squads and Missing Persons Unit, but dedicating much of her career to investigating child abuse and sex offences. She worked on high profile investigations including Anna & Gracie Sharpe (by ‘Mornington Monster' John Sharpe), Margaret & Paul Wales-King (the Society Murders), Maria Korp (the body in the boot case), the 2002 Bali Bombing, horrific infanticide investigations, Geoff Clarke (the then ATSIC Commissioner), The Ascot Vale Rapist and many more. She has stared death and trauma in the face throughout her career. However, Narelle's career was cut short when she succumbed to PTSD, retiring in 2012 and reinventing herself as a public speaker and occasional guest on the Australian True Crime Podcast. Celebrate Carlos coming back from his brush with death, and the new year, with an all new episode recorded eight months ago! And guess what, it's Jack's ApeCast co-host Geoff Clarke, talking about Strange New Worlds for the first time. Guess what, like all good-hearted people they love a good body swap, and ship games, and this episode delivers on both counts. You know what else they love? DARTH. FUCKING. VADER. That's right, they're talking about the hottest Star Wars show of 2022. Obi-Wan Kenobi. This episode is as on fire as ol' Ben!
Blaster bolts, it's the penultimate book in the series! The kids head to Bespin to test out Lando's new theme park, only to be reminded that Cloud City brings bad things in the middle act of a trilogy... The ApeCast's Geoff Clarke helps spruce things up with a trunk full of tree puns and a lesson in Canadian currency before we get musical, touching on every timbre from phat nu metal to the sweet jizz of Clak'dor VII.
You think Star Trek is just space guys philosophizing about morality? You think things never get spooky? I've got a very real giant black cat and dungeon with skeletons that say otherwise! That's right, since it's Halloween, we had to talk about the ONLY Star Trek Halloween episode: the original series's Catspaw! Join Sam, Jack, and Kevin for an exciting discussion about whether this episode is scary, the quaint comfort of terrible original series episodes, and a lot of discussion about Korob, Sylvia, and the weird wand. Sam also takes us on a journey through some internet listicles about “the scariest Star Trek episodes” (spoiler: some of the choices are silly), and the team discusses all the great horror movies that have come out thus far in 2022. Not to mention another thrilling trip to the old mailbag! This discussion will enthrall all extragalactic beings, including those who can experience no sensation! And coming soon, to a podcast device near you: the continuing journey of the Tongo wheel! Have a spooky, spooky Halloween. The wormhole is, indeed, in need of some reopening, yet again! Our Tongo extravaganza is not quite complete, and here we are joined by Cam Siemer of What Were We Watching and Young Jedi Knights Club, as well as our resident Ferengi expert Kregg, to talk about this Troi-centric episode of TNG, in which another empath boards the station and seduces our fair counselor, with, as Jethro Tull it, bad intent, and a delegation of Ferengis and others haggle over the discovery of a *GASP* stable wormhole?! What is this, DEEP SPACE NINE? No, my friends, it is not, but it is the return of RTW, an episode recorded literal months ago that we are thrilled to finally have out there in the ether. Will there be another gap of notable size between this episode and the next? I DO NOT KNOW. Hopefully not? Time will tell. Anyway, enjoy this discussion and some dope rhymes. Jaxilly is officially halfway through Season 2 of Picard, and you know what that means! That's right, it's a hump day midseason Picarty! And it wouldn't be much of a Picarty without the ApeCast's Geoff Clarke and emailer turned guest Michelle Ugalde, making their season two Picard debut to help out Picard experts Kev Young and Jack figure out what the hell is going on with Q, ANOTHER new nutty Soong, and ANOTHER Souji(?) and ANOTHER Laris(?). At last! Beyond the Marvel comics! Beyond the galaxy! Before that, we're talking about part three of Obi-Wan Kenobi and a classic album that Geoff grabbed out of his Geoukebox, then digging into the highs and lows of Russ Manning's first foray into the Star Wars universe! May the luck be with you!

As Lando's soldiers and their Viper Automadons face off against the Emperor's deadly Chrysalis Beasts, our Canadian Correspondent Geoff Clarke returns to the podcast to talk sausage, hockey and 90s action flicks, while Brian gives his review of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and we all fawn over what may just be the nicest cover we ever did cover.
As Kei finishes her explanation of Akira's power, it becomes clear she is being posessed by Kiyoko. Suddenly the door to their cell unlocks. Kaneda and Kei start walking through the building. Kaneda asks about Kei's relationship with Ryu. With Lauren Petronaci and Geoff Clarke.
Tetsuo steps over Yamagata with a menacing look. Kei and Kaneda are in a jail cell. Kaneda asks Kei what Akira is. With Lauren Petronaci and Geoff Clarke.
I've heard of Shakespeare in Love, but Picard in Love? Yeah, it happened… and the RTW crew is more than ready to talk with Sean Davis about Picard's love, Riker's r-rated joke, Worf's seductive growl, and since it's a Tongo episode, you KNOW Ferengi scholar Kregg is there to add his take on some Ferengi whose horniness is only surpassed by their greed (like any good Ferengi). So enjoy a bizarre game show, some Trek talk, an epic rap, a dip into listener email for some Ryan Trek Updates (and more), and all the wild stuff you've come to love from the dolts of Reopening the Wormhole. The Tongo Journey continues with Quark's historic appearance in the first episode of Voyager. Warning to Voyager fans: we love you, but if you have trouble with dissenting opinions about this pilot, please do not listen. Sean Davis joins the regular RTW hosts, Sam, Jack, and Kevin, as well as Ferengiman Kregg, to discuss this disjointed, bizarre, messy pilot episode of Star Trek: Voyager. They salvage what they can from the mess, but mostly spend several hours bemoaning its many flaws. Consider these friendly nerds the caretakers of your heart as you listen to them assert deep discomfort with the way this pilot chooses to build its characters, establish its story, and set a tone. Again, Voyager fans, we still love you, but we do not shy away from expressing our negative viewpoints on this pilot, so please be warned! We know what you're thinking, you rapscallion! You're thinking “WHERE IS RTW? I NEED MORE PODCAST!” We got your number pally. Well guess what WE'RE BAAAAACK. The Tongo wheel continues to spin around and around, and where she stopped this time around was the classic TNG episode Unification II, aka THE ONE WITH SPOCK. As always, the guys are joined by Ferengi Expert Kregg, and this time, by old pal Barm as well, to get down to the nitty gritty of what reeeeeally works in this episode, and what is a wet fart, and really dig into Spock's attempt at reunification of the Vulcans and Romulans, and Pardek, Pardek, Pardek. And prepare yourself for another trip to Ye Olde Mailbag, where Ryan gives us another Trek Update. Lower Decks is BACK, and so are the PD Crew (RTW+Barm), and Geoff (The ApeCast), to talk about it! Or rather, spend a few hours goofing around with each other and occasionally talking about the episode, which is a fine thing including giant heads and Gary Mitchell references. In other words, we've become GODS. One listen, and you'll agree: We're using way too many napkins.
As Han Solo and Chewbacca complete the earliest version of the Kessel Run, we welcome Geoff Clarke back to the podcast to school us on the metrication of Canada, to hear about the latest news on Batuu, to wax nostalgic about the joys of Solo: A Star Wars Story, and to give us his two pence on British Marvel comics of the seventies.
The Tongo Experiment ventures into its second outing to talk about the TNG season six episode, Suspicions! In a rare Dr. Crusher-centric episode, she becomes Detective Bevs in order to solve the mysterious murder of a Ferengi scientist on board the ship to test out his groundbreaking invention. As always, Ferengiman Kregg joins in to weigh the good, the bad, and the tasty (mmm those Jo'Bril snacks) of this middling episode. Does the mystery aspect hold up? How do we feel about the concept of a Ferengi scientist? And what's that new rap gonna be like? (Hint: it's dope). Stay tuned to the end for a mailbag extravaganza, where we read and respond to a whole slew of mails from listeners. And stick around for dessert, we're serving up heaping helpings of Jo'Bril. We’ve heard your cries, your desperate pleas: “Why won’t this Star Trek podcast just give in and do a Mortal Kombat episode already?” Well the time is here! After years of unexpectedly breaking into tangents about the popular video game franchise, it only seemed right that the RTW boys would jump at the opportunity to discuss the newly released Mortal Kombat film. After a big nostalgic trip down memory lane about their experiences playing the famously violent games as children, the RTW hosts, along with special guest Cam Siemer of What Were We Watching, get into the nitty gritty of what works, what doesn’t, and just how it compares to the classic 1995 film adaptation. And Cam brings the Big Cam Energy by encouraging the guys to rank the fatalities in the movie, and also to breeze through an ENTIRE bracket about all the characters in the film in under 10 minutes. It’s a nostalgic trip down blood-soaked Kombat Lane that Kombat fans won’t want to miss! RTW WINS! Flawless Victory. (P.S. let me save you the trouble: since this episode went long, the guys didn’t get around to mailbag checking, but stay tuned for some mail readings on the next episode as the guys return to Trek with the long awaited second Tongo episode!) Just a *little* over a month after Sam’s actual birthday, the exciting birthday celebration bracket is finally being released into the world! Barm joins the team to answer fun questions about some of their favorite locations in the show, in order to ultimately determine the winner of this Deep Space Nine Location Bracket, in honor of the birth of one of our favorite guys. What will be the winner? Odo’s office? The Bajoran fire caves? Tune in to find out the answer, as well as to hear a bunch of rambling weirdos chit chatting about whatever pops into their heads. The new chapter of the RTW story begins, with our first Tongo Bonus episode! That’s right, our journey through every non-DS9 Ferengi episode in Trek begins here, coincidentally, with the first Ferengi episode! Did we say “first”? We meant WORST! Well actually we meant both. But there’s a lot of mud to sling at this episode, and the RTW crew and Ferengi Expert Kregg are ready to call this episode out for its inanity. We’re not in Ferenginar anymore, dear listeners, but we’re excited to be bringing more Trek Talk to all of you, and we’re thrilled to have Kregg alongside us. And without Rappin’ Jake Sisko, will there be a replacement rapper? Tune in to find out! Man, it sure has been a while since this Deep Space Nine podcast has talked about Deep Space Nine. 2020 was a lot of things, but if there’s one thing it’ll be remembered as, it’s that it’s the year of 3 Star Trek shows. It was just too significant for the RTW boys to not share their thoughts with listeners, so they geared up to have a brief look down memory lane about the Year in Trek of 2020, and the year in general. What they got instead of over four hours of chit chat, including a ton of talk about Picard, Lower Decks, and Discovery, as well as a series of recommendations from all three hosts, as well as a high level of navel-gazing. It wouldn’t be a post-DS9 episode of RTW if there wasn’t a high level of self-congratulatory banter about our favorite episodes of our own shows, and our favorite songs that WE wrote. Spirits flow as spirits run high. Listeners who want general discussions about the three Trek seasons of 2020 won’t want to miss this episode. And if you’re looking for recommendations outside of Star Trek…. You’ve come to the right place! It’s a Disco Party, and Jack has invited a cadre of glorious guests to celebrate his newfound freedom from the pressures of endlessly podcasting about Star Trek every week. Barm, Sam Stovold (Marvel Star Wars Explorers), Sean Davis (After the Credits), Kregg Castillo (Golden Boy?), Richard Dunham (Ghibli Minute), and an Ape-on in the form of Geoff Clarke (The ApeCast), are all here to dish on the finale and their thoughts on Season 3 in general. This megasize episode is more exciting than the BURN, and will surely resonate throughout subspace for all eternity.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good… FRIGHT? The boys are back in their Christmas best to talk about yet another Christmas-based property that has a tangential relationship to Star Trek. It’s the 2015 Canadian horror anthology A Christmas Horror Story, starring none other than William Shatner as drunken radio DJ Dangerous Dan. The guys have fun talking about this middling film and the varying qualities of the stories in the anthology, including one about Santa murdering zombie elves. As always, several digressions take place, as Kevin talks about his Coen Bros journey, and then an email from a listener opens up a much larger conversation about film. So spread the holiday cheer by listening to these three buffoons blabber on about this silly movie, and its many highs and lows. Have a merry Christmas, listeners, and a happy New Year! And don’t let Krampus, the vile enemy of Christmas, find you! For this year's bonus Chimpsmas Ape-isode, Jack and Geoff welcome back Erin Clarke, Sam Stovold and Kevin Young for a discussion of the little-remembered 1998 direct-to-VHS animated musical The Mighty Kong! Is this a forgotten gem in the King Kong oeuvre, or a bafflingly soulless, perfunctory attempt to re-frame the classic Kong narrative for the youth of the 90's? Either way, it makes for a festive discussion! And also, to celebrate anime movie Demon Slayer's crowning as the all-time King of the Japanese box office, a special bonus game show: Geoff Clarke's Grinnin' Chimp Japanese Box Office Christmas Challenge!

Celebrate the holidays with one of the biggest Jaxilly BLOWOUTS ever! Hey, it’s the end of the year, everyone had drinks and the day off, we have to talk about CHINGY’S blessings, the Mirror Universe, Georgiou leaving the show, the return of the Guardian of Forever (aka CARL), the biggest mailbag ever, and of course THE MANDO FINALE! So join a Chingy-approved Jack, a Luke-likin’(?) Sam (Marvel Star Wars Explorers), a tumbleweed-filled apartment owning Geoff (The ApeCast), a very passionately opinionated Sean (After the Credits), and a Guardian-hoppin’ Kevin (Reopening the Wormhole) for a rip-roarin’ time! You’ll find there’s never enough of THIS self-indulgence.
As Luke and Lando return to Iskalon to deliver the news of Kiro's fate to his people, Geoff Clarke, our Canadian Correspondent, returns to the cast to give us his thoughts on the first 3 episodes of The Mandalorian, to explore an exciting new season of 1985 television premieres (including two infamous Star Wars cartoons), and to get hyped with us about the debut of our new favorite character in the galaxy far, far away... Dania Francis.
A birthday just isn’t a birthday unless you spend it talking at length about Deep Space Nine characters with your buddies! (I guess most of our birthdays haven’t been birthdays… that’s gloomy…) Luckily for us, there are enough fascinating characters on Deep Space Nine that we could load two completely different brackets, and still have some left over. So to celebrate the anniversary of Jack’s birth (as well as that of StarMom TechnoBarbara, and president-elect Joe Biden), the RTW team has gathered two of their favorite recurring guests to have big, long discussions about things like what Nicolas Cage as Moogie would be like, what Gowron would be like as a Thanksgiving guest, and how Grand Nagus Zek would fit into the Guardians of the Galaxy. They also take a quick dip into some listener mail, and go off the rails in all sorts of ways. Even if you can’t be there in Japan to celebrate Jack’s birthday in person, you can vicariously enjoy the nerdy discussions that made this birthday bash a night to remember! The ApeCast tackles Disco Season 3! For the first time in Season 3, Geoff Clarke (The ApeCast) brings his still SOMEWHAT unbiased Ape Peepers to Trek, and (mostly) likes what he sees, and it’s not just because master body-horror director and Canadian national treasure David Cronenberg is appearing in this episode for whatever reason (we’re not complaining!). He and Jack also relish any chance to talk Final Fantasy VIII, the Temporal Cold War, the Smoke (and Smog) Monster, Robert Picardo, Admiral Vance (Vance Admiralty), and, as we bid farewell to Nahn, BARZANS, BARZANS, BARZANS. Bear witness to the ascension of Castville’s new Barzan/Canadian expert.
As All Hallow’s Eve approaches, the Reopening the Wormhole crew felt a swelling of the Spooky Spirit that could only be expressed by watching this classic(?) somewhat spooky episode of TNG and discussing it for the benefit of you, the listener. The trend continues of discussing a generally maligned episode from the final season of TNG: Sub Rosa. In this steamy episode, Dr. Crusher falls in love with what appears to be a handsome ghost while tending to her recently-deceased grandmother’s affairs. While this episode is often cited as one of the worst Star Trek episodes, there may be some dissenting opinions among the RTW crew. Tune in to find out! And also, to hear the guys discuss some horror movies they’ve been watching recently, some general thoughts on Star Trek: Lower Decks, the validity of Scottish accents, and the sadly infrequent intrusions of eroticism across all Trek shows. So put on your best anaphasic ghost costume and prepare for the creeeeeeepiest, spoooooooookiest RTW episode of the year! This episode is sponsored by VOTING! Jack’s Silly bids adieu to Lower Decks (and one of our favorite characters) for now, with a group of All Stars! Jack is joined by Barm, Kevin Young (Reopening the Wormhole), Geoff Clarke (The ApeCast), Ferengi expert Kregg Castillo (Golden Boy?) and Sean Davis (After the Credits) to talk SERIOUS Lower Decks, Peanut Hamper and Exo-comps, the return of Pakleds, Bae Bajoran Badasses, Riker’s millionth appearance, and our feelings on Lower Decks as a whole! Plus Phat Pakled returns to drop some HOT RHYMES. We’re going out like a CHAMP.
Are you wearing your masks when you go out? We sure hope so! And we hope they’re more effective than the masks worn by Data & Picard in this infamous episode of TNG. Regarded by many as one of the worst episodes of the show, we felt the time was right to give it the RTW treatment. It’s got many of the hallmarks of fun TNG episodes: Brent Spiner acting like a weirdo, Picard nerding out about anthropology, surreal atmosphere, strange visuals… one of the hosts even claims to be a Masks apologist. But there’s a lot to unpack in this bizarre 45 minutes of television. In addition to the episode discussion, we open the mailbag and catch up with the listeners, have a discussion about video games we like, launch into a Masks rap, and so very much more. Like Masaka, Reopening the Wormhole is RISING (in quality).
