Kev and Rob beat around the bush a bit before discussing some of the brights spots in "Star Trek: Section 31", which was otherwise a not very good Star Trek movie. They take the opportunity to discuss moles – what does or does not quality as a mole – and revisit some Deep Space Nine highlights including the abduction and replacement of Julian Bashir, "Homefront" (DS9) and "Paradise Lost" (DS9), and "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges" (DS9).Star Trek: Section 31DIS 3×09 Terra Firma, Part 1DIS 3×10 Terra Firma, Part 2Guardian of ForeverDeltanIliaChameloid Rachel GarrettTNG 3×15 Yesterday's EnterpriseDIS 1×02 Battle at the Binary StarsKlingon-Cardassian AllianceMinos vs Minos KorvaTNG 6×11 Chain of Command, Part IITNG 1×21 The Arsenal of FreedomTOS 1×28 The City on the Edge of ForeverRed Lady (codename)Star Trek: NemesisStar Trek Into DarknessStar Trek III: The Search for SpockStar Trek V: The Final FrontierStar Trek: The Motion PictureMolesArne DarvinValerisSaavikJulian Bashir (Changeling)DS9 5×10 RaptureDS9 5×11 The Darkness and the LightDS9 5×12 The BegottenDS9 5×13 For the UniformDS9 5×14 In Purgatory's ShadowDS9 4×11 Homefront / DS9 4×12 Paradise LostAdmiral LeytonPresident Jaresh-InyoDS9 7×16 Inter Arma Enim Silent LegesSloanEnabran TainDS9 6×19 In the Pale MoonlightKovalSilik(00:00) - Episode 73: Moles (Star Trek: Section 31) (02:07) - Star Trek: Section 31 (55:48) - Moles (57:02) - Arne Darvin (57:36) - Valeris (59:09) - Julian Bashir (changeling) (01:05:09) - DS9 4×11 Homefront / DS9 4×12 Paradise Lost (01:14:04) - DS9 7×16 Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges Music: Distänt Mind, Brigitte Handley

In this much anticipated Alfacast we amass further evidence that the Earth Realm is, indeed, very different than what we have been taught. The large swath of unthinking Man that is not immediately dismissive when confronted with the transparent incongruities of conventional "science", will simply inquire "but, what difference does it make?" The term Terra Firma has significance well beyond the connotation of solid land, as it also serves as a bedrock of understanding in all that follows. Any distortion of the authentic nature of its form and function by necessity impedes the evolution of humanity in this incubation chamber of consciousness that we consider our primary habitat. Our very special guest for this episode, Austin Whitsitt, will, yet again, lend further perspective on this intriguing topic from prior Alfacast guests that have dared to question the spinning globe status quo. Austin is an activist, debater, musician, and content creator, with a primary focus on aether cosmology. He has traveled the breadth of the continent, engaging in public activism on topics related to cosmology, while advocating for truth regarding the plandemic. As the founder of Audit NASA, Austin leads efforts to ensure governmental honesty and transparency, holding organizations like NASA accountable for their actions. This is one not to be missed, as Austin and the AV crew deep dive into the very aetheric mechanisms underlying the totality of Creation! Welcome back my friends to the show that sometimes ends. Trying something new this week for SURFACE NOISE. Buddies! Excited, pumped, stoked...I haven't been able to find the right words to express how thrilled I am to share this conversation with you! Dropping today, June 16th, TERRA FIRMA is the new double LP album (yes, double) from Nick Perri & The Underground Thieves. This is the 2nd album for this collective, and I was fortunate to spend some time talking to Nick about the new album, his fascinating career in the music industry (imagine opening for the likes of Van Halen, Aerosmith, and Motley Crue during the beginnings of your career - fresh into your 20's!), and his twists and turns since then that have led us to this incredible album: TERRA FIRMA. What is it like to create at every possible step of a project - writing the music, organizing the production, overseeing the mastering, promoting the project, then touring on it (I'm tired just writing that!). Plus, Nick is super passionate about vinyl and it was a MUST that this album (and the preceding title SUN VIA) came out on the format. I loved talking the hobby with him and you'll see him light up as we nerd out talking records and old media. I mean, it couldn't be a Vinyl Community Podcasts show with records, could it? Stay tuned to the channel and VINYL COMMUNITY PODCASTS for news on a listening party on 6/22/23 at 8pm CST on the SURFACE NOISE livestream where we'll be talking about the songs, the album, and giving away records - for real! But for now, check out the album yourself via the links below: For more information on host Concert Buddie: https://www.youtube.com/@ConcertBuddie For more information on guest Nick Perri: https://nickperrimusic.com/ For more information on Vinyl Community Podcasts: https://vinylcommunitypodcasts.com/

Guy Hands is, perhaps unsurprisingly, bearish on the UK. The famous financier and chairman of private equity firm Terra Firma says Britain is in a “sort of geriatric decline,” with its post-Brexit business outlook and investment case getting worse every day. Hands tells David Merritt and Francine Lacqua on this week's episode of In the City that if the UK maintains its weakened relationship with the European Union, it's destined to be poorer on a relative basis than the bloc. Hands, who backed the Remain side in 2016, recently said he'd stop making donations to the Conservatives after the government rejected the possibility of a closer trade deal with the EU. Now he supports Labour because they seem “marginally better.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Sitting down with Charly Pretet, a celebrated Chef worldwide, was a pleasure! We felt incredibly aligned in our values and shared love for the earth, fresh produce and cooking. Born in France, after a successful career in hospitality in Paris, he moved to Australia in 2015. Charly's love of good food, cooking and the great outdoors started when he was a little boy. He spent his childhood fishing, hunting, riding horses and growing organic vegetables on the family property on the West Coast of France. Charly switched from fine dining to fire dining in 2020 during the pandemic. Inspired by the traditional Argentinian Asado barbecue method, he created Terra Firma Dining. You'll hear all about it in the first Prodcast of 2023, episode #76. Sit back, relax and enjoy! Oooh, and check out their epic photography here: @terra.firma.dining
Flashback Episode of The Father Time Podcast with Jamie KalerI love having Moms on the show. The actually are way smarter. And Kira is amazing. Kira Soltanovich grew up in San Francisco during a time when there were bad neighborhoods, cheap coffee and it wasn't ironic to ride the cable cars. She began her comedy career back in 1998 after asking her Russian immigrant parents if they would support her dream to become a stand up. After her mother and father confessed “It's not like you're smart enough to be a doctor…” Kira took that as their blessing to pursue her dreams and she's never looked back. She was a series regular on How To Be A Grownup for TruTV, the hidden camera show Girls Behaving Badly and was a correspondent on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for over 8 years. Recently, Kira co-hosted the game show Winsanity with Donald Faison for the Game Show Network. One of Kira's greatest achievements is shooting her latest 1 Hour Stand Up Special,You Did This To Me, which was completely self-produced and she shot it while over 7 months pregnant. The first stand up comedian to shoot a special pregnant!Kira has appeared on The Jay Leno Show, Hello Ross! with Ross Mathews, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Last Call with Carson Daly, Hell's Kitchen, Last Comic Standing, Set List TV, and The World Stands Up on Comedy Central. She has written for Joan Rivers, Scott Baio, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber. And here's an interesting fact, three of those people have dated each other.Kira's pilot Weren't You Scott Baio? was optioned by New Line Television, her hidden camera dating show Who's Got Game? was optioned by MTV and her feature film What's Your Sign? was optioned by Terra Firma at Universal. For a while there, she and her writing partner were only developing projects that asked a question. Genius, right? She's been a writer on Easiest Game Show Ever, How'd You Get So Rich? for TV Land, Warning: Men Thinking, Raising Whitley and Prankstars on Disney. Her half hour Showtime special, Here Comes Trouble, won Best Stand Up Special by a Soviet.*Did you know once the kids who watch Nickelodeon go to sleep, the network changes over to NickMom? Well, it does. Kira is a recurring round table comic on Parental Discretion and performed on both seasons the stand up series NickMom's Night Out.Kira's two children inspired her to have her very own podcast. Terra Firma is a new podcast that combines writing about nature with the sounds of the outdoors. It's hosted by CMarie Fuhrman — a writer, a poet, an educator, an indigenous woman. Each episode pairs CMarie's writing with recordings by Jacob Job. He's a conservationist, an educator, a man very concerned with protecting wild places and with sound. The sounds in Terra Firma come from places like Buena Vista, Colorado, and a snowy field in late December. Or to Bluff, Utah at the top of Comb Ridge. Or the Payette River in Idaho. It's a podcast for those who cannot leave their home, or don't have the time or access to these places. Take a walk up a mountain, or sit with me beside a river or be CMarie's companion in these wild places. Terra Firma from Colorado Public Radio arrives on January 25th. Find it on your favorite podcast app. And don't miss an episode.

Chris Huitfeldt (pronounced Wheatfelt) owns a company called, Terra Firma, which means solid ground. It provides intervention services for celebrities, professional athletes, and common folks. He even does pro bono work to help the economically disadvantaged. His philosophy is that “every good foundation starts on solid ground.” Terra Firma usually provides interventions for individuals with addiction and dual diagnosis disorders. His group also offers recovery coaching, consultation, and case management work.Chris believes that interventions are not designed to surprise, jolt, shame, or corner someone into getting help. Instead it is a thoughtful, caring, and loving process that can lead to miraculous changes. He believes that interventions —when done correctly — can have a very positive ripple effect. Successful interventions can provide healing to individuals, families, and communities. Chris's philosophy is that interventions work best when they are predicated on love, kindness, and compassion. He is also realistic that the work often starts after someone lands in a facility. Yet, getting someone into a facility is a success story in and of itself. Chris bears a striking resemblance to the erudite punk rocker, Henry Rollins, from the band, Black Flag, in his younger days. (Chris took this comparison as a compliment during the interview. Phew.) Interestingly, Rollins and Chris share some of the same philosophy. Rollins once said that “someone, somewhere is thinking about you,” and “scar tissue is stronger than regular tissue.” Interventions work because someone is thinking about you (and loving you) enough to help you, especially when you least want help but most need it. And the recovery process can help become stronger in the broken places that adhere beneath the scar tissue. In this episode, English financier Guy Hands discusses Terra Firma's story and some lessons learnt in his career. Guy set up the firm as a spin-out from Nomura, and through it he's overseen €18 billion of investment into 39 businesses since 1994. In this episode, he talks about Terra Firma's business model, the early successes, and types of transactions they looked for, before discussing the merits and demerits of PE investing (for both investors and the economy). He then talks about the risks should interest rates normalise, where the problems might surface, and the very particular failure of his investment in EMI. He analyses lessons learned from that episode, how it has influenced his thinking on deals, and how Terra Firma assesses each transaction today. He discloses some of the asset allocation thinking of his family office and the importance of a large real asset component. Guy talks about his charitable endeavours, including where and why he gives. He then speaks candidly about the lessons and scars from the EMI episode. As part of our Private Equity Miniseries, we're re-releasing our episode with Guy Hands (originally recorded in summer 2021). In the wider series, we're examining how PE has grown to become such a significant artery in finance and the wider economy, and have been joined by guests from the likes of Petershill Partners, Permira, Bain Capital and Schroders Capital. Learn more about Guy's story in his book, ‘The Dealmaker: Lessons from a Life in Private Equity'. Released shortly after his original appearance on the show, it is a frank and honest account of how a severely dyslexic child who struggled at school went on to graduate from Oxford and become a serial entrepreneur. Designed for professional investors, these episodes offer detailed insights and analysis into a range of funds and asset classes. Also available on Apple Podcasts & Spotify. Star Trek's backdoor pilots. The year is 1968. As Star Trek goes off the air for good, a new show—Assignment: Earth—debuts from some of the same creative team. For dedicated Trekkies, the premise is already familiar and the two leads, Gary Seven and Roberta Lincoln, have a head start garnering fans of their own. That, at least, is what might have been had Star Trek not been renewed for a third season. As things turned out, the episode featuring Seven and Lincoln was simply the finale of Star Trek's second-season, not the series, and “Assignment: Earth” was never picked up as a show in its own right. In this episode of Primitive Culture, host Duncan Barrett is joined by Tony Black for a look at Star Trek's most famous backdoor pilot, an episode that lays out the premise for a potential future show, using the budget and production infrastructure of an existing one. “Assignment: Earth” might be Star Trek's most blatant use of this sneaky approach, but more recent examples include “Point of Light,” “Terra Firma,” and “All Is Possible.” These three installments of Star Trek: Discovery seem to hint pretty strongly at shows that might be coming down the pipe. And then there's Discovery's entire second season, which set up not only Strange New Worlds—and introduced new actors in the roles of Captain Pike, Spock, and the original Number One—but the long-awaited Section 31 show as well. What are the benefits—and pitfalls—of taking the backdoor route to a new project? And do such stories inevitably struggle to function as episodes of two different shows simultaneously? Platinum-selling one-person-band Tash Sultana is an extraordinary talent we simply had to get on for an episode of “The Captain Meets”. Tash has risen through grassroots music, beginning with a career in busking and getting her music online on Bandcamp. In this time she became a master at looping tracks and building songs from the ground up in real time. We dug into Tash's musical influences, the Terra Firma album and signature Fender Strat. Heads up: this episode features some explicit language.

Billy Mann wasn't content being just a multi-platinum songwriter. As an entrepreneur he's formed companies that promote and brand artists across the social media landscape, and as a devoted father he's championed legislation for people on the autistic spectrum. Join Nick as he and Billy cover a wide range of topics, from spending twenty years as Pink's collaborator and friend, to his eye-opening days as an executive at EMI, to Billy's helpful advice and creative rituals for aspiring songwriters. HIGHLIGHTS: [02:05] Whereas the music industry seeks to pigeonhole artists, Billy's experiences have taught him to have a more open mind when it comes to musicians and creative directions [03:55] Billy and his partner Benton James run Proof Of Concept, a management company that develops talent and uses today's digital platforms to promote and brand the artists [07:19] Billy also founded Icons & Giants, partnering with Warner Music Group and other companies to power their distribution efforts [08:03] Billy launched Song House Live, a collaborative initiative where TikTok artists live and create in a mansion with a recording studio [11:44] Billy appreciates the "old ways" of doing business within the music industry, but he's happily embraced the way that social media and the Internet has democratized the connection between a musician and their adoring public [16:17] Billy believes that songwriters are the greatest entrepreneurs in music, artists who create an invisible product that has to be sold in a very competitive and apathetic environment [19:21] Although he thinks the period when EMI was owned by Guy Hand and Terra Firma was a "shit show", at the same time Billy himself had what he considers incredible success on the song charts [24:27] Working at EMI showed Billy that being a good music executive means being able to delegate, to motivate people, and to pay attention to emerging trends and styles [28:05] Pink and Billy have collaborated for over twenty years now, forging a "sibling relationship" based on their Philadelphia backgrounds, their musical talent, and their personal respect [34:36] Billy joined The Pact, an organization that supports adjusting the financial balance of songwriting more in favor of the songwriters, not the big corporations [42:00] Billy's advice to songwriters is to read, to absorb as much creative input and life experience from other people [42:55] Another piece of advice is to tell the truth when crafting songs, drawing from your own life experience to bring depth to a song [44:53] As a father of children with developmental challenges, Billy gladly devotes a great deal of time to philanthropic causes dedicated to autistic research and outreach Thanks for listening!
