It's The State of Gaming Podcast, Popzara's in-depth look at what's shaking up the gaming landscape delivered on a monthly basis. Our hosts Cory Galliher and Nate Evans guide you through the best, worst, and everything else making headlines and headway in the world of interactive entertainment. The Biggest Games of April 2023 The biggest games of the month include: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Dead Island 2, Minecraft Legends, Advance Wars 1+2 Reboot Camp, The Last Case of Benedict Fox, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection Vol. 1-2, and Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores (DLC). Other notables include: Ghostwire: Tokyo (Xbox), Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak (Xbox), Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly, The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story, Disney Speedstorm (Early Access), and the actual release of Everspace 2. Circana (Formerly NPD): March 2023 Circana remains the gaming industry's best snapshot of what's moving and shaking up both physical and digital retail shelves across the country. All estimates are for entertainment purposes only. Total sales of new gaming hardware and software topped $4.6 billion, a 5 percent dip from last year. Notably, Sony's PlayStation 5 has been breaking records across the board, a huge turnaround when the console was nearly impossible to find. On the Top 20 software charts Capcom's Resident Evil 4 Remake debuts in the top spot, followed by Warner Bros' Hogwarts Legacy in second, and Sony's MLB: The Show 23 debuts in third. Take 2's WWE 2K23 debuts high in seventh, Nintendo's physical version of Metroid Prime Remastered in thirteenth and, perhaps as a nod to upcoming Star Wars projects, Warner Bros' LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga returns in capping off the list in twentieth. May the 4th be with you. Everything Else But there's more! The Super Mario Bros. Movie breaks a billion at the box-office! We predicted it! Sony's Twisted Metal series gets a teaser-trailer! Speaking of Sony, their PSVR 2 headset is finally coming to retailers! The upcoming Street Fighter movie reboot gets a pair of Australian directors! And you can actually play the new Street Fighter VI (demo, anyway) right now!

Today, I'm talking to newcomer to the Star Wars universe, David Menkin. David recently voiced Luke Skywalker (!!!) in the incredibly popular and well received LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. We dive into his inspirations and the journey to voicing one of the most popular characters in the galaxy. The audio is slightly choppy but this is a fun, quick, wonderful conversation with a very talented and very enthusiastic actor. I hope you all enjoy. Thank you so much to Mr. Menkin for coming on the show and telling his stories. Look for him soon at a convention near you, as well as on his Twitter account: twitter.com/DavidMenkin Thank you, as always, to Mr. Derek Maki of Coolwaters Productions, who helped set up this interview, and so many of our previous ones. For an incredible stock of autographs, as well as a look at his clients' upcoming appearances, head to: coolwatersprods.com If you're enjoying the show, please head to Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen to these episodes and leave us a five-star rating and review! LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga reminds us of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, in that it feels unsustainably grand. Its creators have crammed nine films worth of characters, planets, and stories, plus winks at corners of the expanded universe, into one game. A report on crunch at the studio, however, raises serious questions about its leadership's decisions to make the game bigger and bigger and bigger. What does it mean for good games to be made in bad ways? Individual creators have filled Lego Star Wars with charming references, clever stages, and some genuinely funny writing. People clearly cared about their contributions to this project. So, this week, we try to parse our feelings of this complicated game and its creation.
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Escape Simulator, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, Demon Turf: Neon Splash, Ready or Not, Vampire Survivors, Elden Ring, Halo Infinite second season, Silicon Valley and Matt dreams about Michelle?!? Plus Xbox Tv streaming app, Fifa parts ways with EA, new LOTR mobile game announced, last gen is dead, more Playdate bashing, and more gaming news! Video games turn into movies and movies turn into video games, and the circle of life goes on. We talk about the new movie starring the fastest circle of all (when Sonic is curled up in that fast ball he's a circle, you see), and one of the furthest away circles (the far, far away galaxy in which Star Wars takes place is, from a certain point of view, a circle, you see). We talk about the new movie Sonic The Hedgehog 2, and Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, is what I'm getting at here. Sorry for talking in circles.
