Im Cold open sehen wir Mariners Tainigsprogramm: Ausbruch aus einem cardassianischen Gefängnis. Offenbar ist sie ziemlich sauer mit Boimler, denn dessen Hologramm muss zurückbleiben. In der eigentlichen Geschichte gibt es dann eine klassische second contact Mission, eigentlich müssen nur noch ein paar Verträge unterzeichnet und eine Rufnummer vergeben werden. Doch Mariner darf jetzt ihre Nebenmissionen mit Billigung Cpt Freemans unternehmen und sie denkt es wäre eine gute Idee die alten Gebäude zu reinigen um den Bewohnern ein Gefühl für ihr Erbe zu geben. Als die Sonne auf eine vom Schmutz befreite Kugel fällt werden seltsame Energien freigesetzt die Ransom ausknocken. Dr. T'Ana warnt gleich vor Nebenwirkungen und es dauert auch nicht lange bis Ransom gottgleiche Kräfte entwickelt, den Planeten nach seinen Wünschen umbaut und droht das Schiff zu zerstören. Immerhin fühlt er sich nicht ganz zu Unrecht zurückgesetz seit Mariner und Freeman zusammenarbeiten. T'Ana erinnert daran, dass Gary Mitchell damals mit einem Felsbrocken aufgehalten werden musste und nach einigen beherzten Fußtritten von Mariners Seite wird ein solcher auch hier nötig.

In "Strange Energies", the USS Cerritos is dispatched on a mission where it ends up in a sci-fi event resulting in "strange energy," which Commander Ransom inadvertently absorbs. In "Kayshon, His Eyes Open", our Lower Deckers have trouble bonding with Ensign Jet Manhaver, who has been assigned Boimler's bunk and shift duties. Meanwhile, we get a glimpse of Boimler's life on the USS Titan, which is more intense than he thought it would be. In the second season premiere episode of Lower Decks, Mariner must overcome Commander Ransom with godlike powers while Tendi tries to cure Rutherford of SMD.

It's strange energy indeed, as we return to life aboard the Cerritos with Ensign Mariner and her mother Captain Freeman. Things are going great – and they both secretly hate it! You would think they could talk about it, but it seems like they can't. It takes Ransom heading down to a planet and getting blasted with "strange energies" and become a young, narcissistic godling for them to admit it to each other.    Also, Tendi thinks Rutherford's cybernetic implants are malfunctioning and will stop at nothing to fix him! A new season of hijinks and shenanigans is in the offing. Huzzah!
