[Lower Decks review starts at 33:58] Anthony and Laurie start by talking about Paramount’s interest in “fine-tuning” scripts for the next Star Trek movie and getting it into pre-production. There is also a lot to cover from Patrick Stewart’s new memoir Making It So and media tour including his hopes to do another TNG movie with some interesting ideas for Picard himself. Stewart is also taking about how he had an alternate ending he’d suggested for Star Trek: Picard, his experiences with Tom Hardy on Nemesis, and more. Laurie also talks about seeing Patrick Stewart and Whoopi Goldberg kick off his book tour. Jonathan Frakes also has ideas for Riker’s role in a potential Star Trek: Legacy series. After highlighting some new Trek comics and DVD sets, they review the last of the very Short Treks episodes, “Watch, Don’t Run,” which they agree was a nice way to end this mixed series of animated promotional shorts. Then it’s time to talk Star Trek: Lower Decks, starting with Mike McMahan’s comments that fans shouldn’t take a sixth season for granted as priorities and plans are constantly shifting. That launches them into a review of the latest Lower Decks episode, “Parth Ferengi’s Heart Place,” which takes us to Ferenginar for the first time. Laurie and Tony both liked it, but felt it wasn’t as strong as the rest of the season has been. They wrap up with a nice detail on LA’s new Leonard Nimoy Theater and a flashback to a Captain’s Summit with William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, and Whoopi Goldberg.

Matthew (he/him) and Jo (she/they) handle their “Family Business” as they join Quark and Rom on Ferenginar. We explore the new facts of Ferengi life that we are introduced to in this episode, as well as the introduction of Brunt, FCA. We analyze what Star Trek is trying to say about the Ferengi and how they are used in Star Trek and we critique Moogie's version of “lean in feminism.” Matthew asks if Sisko is the best cook in Starfleet and Jo rants about Dax's homosexual behavior regarding Kassidy Yates. Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Family Business Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 3 Episode 23 of Deep Space Nine: Family Business. We were not super thrilled with this ridiculous episode - maybe it was too much a product of its time or maybe it wasn't even good enough for its time! Whatever the reason, this one isn't a good look for Trek. There's a lot of nonsense in this episode reminding us about the Ferengi laws against women making a profit, leaving their homes and even wearing clothes. It's a little hard to swallow. It's a lot hard to tolerate. You've probably noticed, our podcast is very short as there was only so much time we were willing to devote to this topic. Family Business In this episode, Quark learns that his mother is up to "no good" back on Ferenginar. She's been wearing clothes and making money. So Rom and Quark turn up to convince her to confess and give back everything she's earned. This episode is ridiculous. I have no further comment. What's this rebinge thing? It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines. Please listen to some of our favorite episodes like Duet, The Wire or Second Skin and check out the previous episode, Explorers. Next time... Join us for the next episode S3E24: Shakaar. Be sure and join our Facebook group and Follow Rebinge It on Twitter! Email us at rebingeit@gmail.com.
Whenever Vic's not on screen, all the other characters should be asking, "where's Vic?" We imagine this was probably a note from Ira Steven Behr as DS9 hurtled towards its end, breaking from the ultra-serialized format the finale has been taking thus far to give us more explicitely separate episodes! First up: Julian and Miles curb stomp ethics for the sake of saving Odo's life by taking a stroll in a dying Sloan's brain in "Extreme Measures"! After that, Sisko gets a new "Defiant" and news of a new baby, Damar gets a new plan, and Ferenginar gets a new Grand Nagus in "The Dogs of War"! Also this week: seriously, where's Vic? Inception Horn. Plate chat. [timestamps: "Measures": 1:42; "Dogs": 37:21]

The new chapter of the RTW story begins, with our first Tongo Bonus episode! That’s right, our journey through every non-DS9 Ferengi episode in Trek begins here, coincidentally, with the first Ferengi episode! Did we say “first”? We meant WORST! Well actually we meant both. But there’s a lot of mud to sling at this episode, and the RTW crew and Ferengi Expert Kregg are ready to call this episode out for its inanity. We’re not in Ferenginar anymore, dear listeners, but we’re excited to be bringing more Trek Talk to all of you, and we’re thrilled to have Kregg alongside us. And without Rappin’ Jake Sisko, will there be a replacement rapper? Tune in to find out! And stick around for another exciting mailbag from a first-timer who’s working through DS9 AND RTW in DS9 episode order. It is, as Spock would say, fascinating. It's time for me to turn into a fanboy on the show, and I hope the same happens to you when you listen to this interview with Max Grodénchik. You may remember Max best as Rom from "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," the brother of Quark who rose up from being a bumbling buffoon into being married to the lovely Leeta, was the father of the first Ferengi in Starfleet, and ultimately became the Grand Nagus of Ferenginar! Max is one of my favorite character actors of all time, and Rom is one of my favorite characters in all of Star Trek, so we talk in-depth about his experiences on DS9, including wearing the makeup, stories about Armin Shimerman & Aron Eisenberg, how he developed the voice and mannerisms of Rom, and Max even critiques my Rom voice! Before DS9, Max played two other Ferengi in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" in the episodes "Captain's Holiday" and "The Perfect Mate," and shares memories of working with Patrick Stewart and Famke Janssen, as well as his reaction to the first time he wore the Ferengi makeup. Plus, working with Tiny Ron in "The Rocketeer" & Whoopi Goldberg in "Sister Act," thoughts on the Rom action figure from Playmates, baseball stories from "Take Me Out to the Holosuite," his deleted scene from "Star Trek: Insurrection," Max's singing career with "The Rat Pack" of Star Trek, and much more! Trek Untold: The Star Trek Podcast That Goes Beyond The Stars!
You may know Chase Masterson best as Leeta from Star Trek DS9, or as Chase describes her character, "the Michelle Obama of Ferenginar"! Most recently, Chase starred in the sci-fi parody film "Unbelievable!!!!!" alongside 40 other actors from across the Star Trek universe. We cover a lot of topics in this insightful interview, including working with Garrett Wang & Tim Russ on "Unbelievable!!!!!" and we answer a ton of DS9 questions submitted by listeners like you! Chase explains how the role of Leeta went from a one-time appearance into a broader role, the secret backstory she created for the character's origins and motivations, sharing her first kiss on-screen ever with Max Grodenchik. The ad-lib Robert Picardo said immediately after, memories from some of her favorite episodes "Bar Association," "Profit and Lace," and "Doctor Bashir, I Presume,." If her looks helped or hindered her career and the sexuality of Star Trek, memories of working with Cecily Adams and Aron Eisenberg, and much more! Plus, working with Mel Brooks on "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" and the untold story about her role in the film! We also spend some time discussing her TED Talk, "How to Be More Powerful Than You Can Possibly Imagine," and the mission of her charitable organization, the Pop Culture Hero Coalition. Drunk Space Nine - An inebriated Star Trek Deep Space Nine Podcast
Grand Nagus Zek is deposed and Brunt is having an ego trip and Quark has to take one for the team. We dive deep into the wormhole and play in the gentle warm springs of the Imaginina in this exciting episode of Drunk Space Nine with Asking Linda's Son of Denis. Check out Asking Lindas
When Quark returns to his childhood home on Ferenginar, his old bedroom closet has been converted into something else. But when he finds his mother secretly canoodling with a powerful man, he can't help but interfere in her affairs. Should Martok have an attorney on retainer? What's the Ferengi whip called? Who do you give a space per diem to? It's the episode that that proves there's no ethics in podcasting!
While on a trip to Ferenginar, Jake and Nog are attacked by the Jem'Hadar. They are saved by the USS Valiant, which is apparently commanded by a crew of Red Squad cadets - an elite group from Starfleet Academy that we last saw in Paradise Lost. The Valiant is on a dangerous mission to locate a Dominion warship behind enemy lines, but the biggest danger might be the cadets themselves. DS9 pays homage to "Lord of the Flies" with a story about the collapse of values in the face of authoritarianism. Or at least... that's what it seems like they were doing. But hey, the destruction of the Valiant is pretty great, huh? Wes and Clay also discuss the unique uniforms of Red Squad, the training protocols of Starfleet, and the growing schism between themselves and the listeners! Paula M. Block and Terry J. Erdmann: I, The Constable. Quark is the kind of Ferengi that can smell profit on the wind, and when his tavern-magnate uncle passes away, he detects just such an opportunity! However, in the pursuit of his newfound potential profit, Quark gets caught up in a web of crime and intrigue, and it's up to Odo to don his constable's uniform and save the day. Along the way, he will deal with double-crosses, nasty armed thugs, and gallons of glebbening rain on the mean streets of Ferenginar. In this episode of Literary Treks, hosts Dan Gunther and Bruce Gibson welcome authors Paula M. Block and Terry J. Erdmann to the show to discuss their recent Deep Space Nine e-novella, I, The Constable. We talk about the inspiration for the story, the research they did to capture the noir feel, changes in the society of Ferenginar, the voices of the characters both old and new, Quark's seemingly newfound generosity, some fun references, and wrap up with where you can find Paula and Terry online. In the news segment, we judge the cover of the upcoming Discovery novel Drastic Measures by Dayton Ward and review two new comics: Boldly Go #14 and the first issue of a new series: Discovery: The Light of Kahless. Ferengi Virtue Ethics. From the fur-wearing, whip-wielding villains of the early seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation to the more developed and nuanced Ferengi in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, profit is the underlying motive for practically all Ferengi action. In this episode of Meta Treks, hosts Zachary Fruhling and Mike Morrison discuss Ferengi virtue ethics, or which character traits uniquely define the Ferengi. But is this drive for profit an essential biological or psychological Ferengi instinct, or is the drive for profit a culturally reinforced learned behavior? Join Zachary and Mike as they discuss the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition and the need for a kinder, gentler Ferenginar. This week on UP2, we welcome special guest Dr. James Roberts as we take our first trip to Ferenginar in “Family Business.” When the FCA accuses Quark’s mother of earning profit, it’s up to Quark and Rom to get her to confess to her heinous crime, before she is sold into indentured servitude and Quark […]
Jack surprises us by having our old buddy Kregg Castillo join us out of the blue for our second installment of Ferengi Talk! We’ve got a lot to unpackage today, from Tulaberries to Grand Nagus Zek’s ear hair to to the shadowy Dominion to the complicated female politics of Ferenginar. Along the way, we think about more actors that would be cool Jokers, we try to draw connections between this episode and The Graduate (despite the fact that none of has seen it), Wallace Shawn stops by to giggle at us and we talk at length about Ferengi boobs and their important role in the Star Trek universe and in pop culture as a whole. Also, be sure to check out Potion Seller if you wanna know what we're talking about, and let's see if we can get this baby up to a billion views: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_FQU4KzN7A
Jake and Nog's trip to Ferenginar is cut short by a Dominon attack. They are rescued in the nick of time by a ship they initially think is the Defiant, but is actually the USS Valiant. The Valiant is another Defiant-class ship, but this one was only meant to be a training vessel for the elite cadets on it. The commissioned officers were killed in action, leaving the group of cadets to run the ship. How will Jake and Nog handle life on the USS Lord of the Flies?
Ferenginar: Satisfaction is Not Guaranteed. The world of Ferenginar was first seen on Star Trek in the Deep Space Nine episode, Family Business and would only be seen one other time in the series yet the planet was home to some of the show’s most beloved characters so it was an obvious choice to visit again in the Worlds of DS9 books. In this episode of Literary Treks Matthew Rushing and Dan Gunther brave the weather on Ferenginar to talk about Satisfaction is Not Guaranteed. We discuss this being a “Ferengi Episode”, how it fits with the rest of the book series, an outsider’s look, rounding out Quark, cleaning up the Ferengi, ratings and our final thoughts. Moogie. Let's be honest. Ferengi episodes are not amongst the fan favorites—even for die-hard Niners. But even in the midst of ludicrous social customs and the grating laugh of Grand Nagus Zek, the writers found a wonderful vehicle for discussion of women's rights in the character of Ishka. She's better known simply as "Moogie," mother of Quark and Rom, and she threw the lives of her children and everyone on Ferenginar into chaos by… wait for it… earning profit. Egads! In this episode of The Orb hosts Christopher Jones and Matthew Rushing take a close look at the woman behind the curtain, the woman with the lobes for business. We discuss how her presence on the show adds depth to Quark and Rom, what her relationship with Zek says about the evolution of societies, and how DS9 was able to deliver comedy with meaning.
Ships of TNG, Part 2. The Next Generation introduced us to many ship designs that would be used in Star Trek for years to come. In this episode of Earl Grey, Phillip Gilfus, Darren Moser, and Daniel Proulx bring you the second installment in our Ships of the Line series, TNG Edition. From Ferengi Marauders to Romulan Warbirds to Borg Cubes—and everything in between—we discuss the important alien ship designs that were encountered by Picard's Enterprise.
