In the mid-1980s a publishing conglomerate named for two of America's most popular magazines, TIME and LIFE, put together a 33-volume series exploring aliens, psychic powers, magic and more. Mysteries of the Unknown kicked off its series with a little book titled MYSTIC PLACES, and within you could delve into theories about Atlantis, the Great Pyramid of Giza, Stonehenge, Nazca Lines, the Bermuda Triangle and more. On this episode, we got our grubby hands on two copies of musty mysteries and we're gonna talk about them! It's Christmas time (so is this a Christmas Movie?) and he just wants to see his wife, so when hostiles take over the airport, he jumps into action. (don't worry, Andy isn't sitting in his room, waiting by his phone like it's the 90s, just fiddling with the long chord, watching "Die Hart"...)
We are Dying Harder in our coverage of the Die Hard Franchise. The second movies in these action franchises usually up the ante and this movie is no exception, bringing John McClain from a business Tower to an Air Traffic Control Tower. Die Hard 2 may not have the prestige of the first film but it still kicks butt and we talk all about it!

Click here to try it out!Welcome back to Bad Dads Film Review! Today, we're revisiting a quintessential action-packed sequel, Die Hard 2, often styled as Die Hard 2: Die Harder. Directed by Renny Harlin and released in 1990, this film takes the high-octane thrills of its predecessor and amplifies them against the backdrop of a snow-covered Washington Dulles International Airport during the Christmas holidays.Just when NYPD officer John McClane (played by Bruce Willis) thought he could enjoy a peaceful Christmas, he finds himself embroiled in another terrorist plot. This time, McClane battles a group of mercenaries who've taken control of Dulles Airport to free a captured drug lord. With his wife's plane circling overhead, low on fuel, McClane must navigate the complexities of the airport's infrastructure and outsmart the villains to save the day. As the snowstorm of the century bears down, McClane discovers a plot to rescue the deposed dictator General Ramon Esperanza. With little help from the airport police initially sceptical of his claims, McClane takes matters into his own hands. What follows is a series of explosive encounters, clever twists, and intense battles as McClane races against time to thwart the terrorists' plans and ensure a safe landing for all the planes above, including the one carrying his wife, Holly.Die Hard 2 explores themes of isolation and resourcefulness. McClane is often portrayed as a lone hero battling against not just the external threats but also bureaucratic inertia and scepticism. His ability to improvise solutions and navigate complex environments under pressure underscores a key aspect of his character—his resilience and ingenuity. Why It's a Must-Watch For fans of the action genre and the Die Hard franchise, Die Hard 2 is a must-watch. It successfully replicates the formula that made the first film a hit while introducing enough new elements to stand on its own. The film is a testament to the enduring appeal of John McClane as a relatable action hero. So, grab some popcorn and join us as we dive back into the snowy chaos of Die Hard 2. Whether you're a die-hard fan of the series or just looking for a high-stakes action film to spice up your holiday viewing, this film delivers on multiple levels.
We are back MF'ers! This time we see John McClain dealing with terrorist taking over an airport thanks to a drug dealer coming in and they want to get the money and a nice retirement to go along with it. John isn't having it though!
A bonus holiday episode! What!? Can't keep a good holiday down! We'll visit the past to talk in our present, and you can listen in our future. John McClane (Bruce Willis) is back! Back but in D.C. to see the in-laws for Christmas. And he's now LAPD? But Dulles was actually filmed at the old Stapleton airport in Denver! Baddies are everywhere! Planes are running out of fuel. Reporters are trying to get the inside scoop. A reindeer is supposed to arrive! McClane is just trying to pick up his wife. Between the terrorist acts led by Colonel Stuart (William Sadler), secret soldier missions with Major Grant (John Amos) and shoddy police work with Carmine Lorenzo (Dennis Franz), McClane is going to have to adhere to all of these ghosts' advice and warnings or he may never change. He also icicle-stabs a guy in the eye! RTS dance it up at Old Fezziwg's. Jeremy and Collin make sure that there is enough prize turkey for all.“Yippie kayak other buckets.”
As we wrap up our "Year of Bruce" with special guest Richard Liverman, it's time to spotlight Die Hard 2, a film that often stands in the shadow of its predecessor but deserves its own moment in the Christmas-action spotlight. While the original Die Hard has cemented its place as the go-to holiday action movie, its sequel doubles down on everything that made the first one great. Set during Christmas Eve at a snow-covered airport, Die Hard 2 delivers all the festive chaos you'd expect from John McClane's unlucky streak. From nerve-wracking shootouts to epic explosions, it's an adrenaline-pumping reminder that holiday cheer sometimes comes with a lot of collateral damage.True to the promise of a bigger sequel, Die Hard 2 takes the "more is more" approach, boasting higher stakes, more deaths, and even grander explosions. It's like the original, but on steroids—a relentless ride through mayhem and holiday spirit as only Bruce Willis can deliver. Yet, it rarely gets the recognition it deserves, often dismissed as "just like the first one." But isn't that the point? It's unapologetically McClane in peak form, facing off against bad guys in an impossible situation. If the holidays are about revisiting familiar joys, Die Hard 2 should be a perennial classic for action fans. It's Bruce, it's Christmas, and it's the perfect way to close out a year celebrating one of Hollywood's most iconic stars.Stick around for a round of Movie 20 Questions!Safe travels, nomads.

Send us a textThe holiday season is here and to celebrate the villains bring to you another wonderful Christmas film to talk about, 1990's Die Hard 2.
We begin december with festive terrorist plots and bleeding feet.
Celebrate the season with the second best Christmas movie, where parking tickets are a slippery slope to fighting terrorists. Die Hard 2 confirms John McClane only fights crime on holidays, and it has everything you could possibly need: A great (constantly yelling) cast, bad guys and good guys who don't want John McClane around, a brief one-on-one with someone named Telford, louder than normal gunshots, and a brand new game called Borrow, Steal, Kill. Do you want to see 47 shots of snowmobiles? We have great news for you. Were you hoping for some kind of grunt/whimper acting? You're in luck. Do you miss movies edited for TBS? We've got you.So grab elderly woman's taser, head over to the skywalk annex, and get ready to party with Mister Falcon in an adventure that will blow you sky high. Greg and Joe remember how Bruce Willis could do no wrong in their eyes back in the day, answer important questions, create new drinking games, and somehow find a weird excuse to add another Limp Bizkit song to our playlist. We don't feel great about it. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

On this instalment of Silver's Streak it's two films from the same director and very different vibes - Die Hard 2 and The Adventures of Ford Fairlane. It's CHRISTMAS MOVIE WEEK 2023, Season's Greetings!!! What better way to kick things off than the much-anticipated sequel to one of THE greatest Christmas movies ever....Die Hard? This came out only two years later and needless to say, it brings back a lot of the elements from that first action classic from '88.....our hero John McClane (Bruce Willis) taking on several terrorists (lead by William Sadler) within a somewhat confined space, his wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) once again in peril, law enforcement on the ground who only make things worse, and unexpected sidekicks who help him along the way. Only this time the action is set at a crowded airport being pummeled by snow AND it's directed by some one new....'90's action-master Renny Harlin who would go on to also direct several other notable action films throughout the '90's including Cliffhanger and The Long Kiss Goodnight, the latter of which is ALSO a memorable Christmas action movie. So strap in, remember to have reliable shoes on, keep extra cartridges handy, be prepared to crawl through new ducts....because it's time to DIE HARDER. ;) Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/
“Like most motion pictures, this needed way more Reginald VelJohnson” - Andrew On this week's episode, we're chatting about the high body count/low IQ, Christmas-set sequel, Die Hard 2! Why couldn't they have developed a script where now-LAPD detective John McClane has some adventure on the streets of Los Angeles instead of a boring D.C. airport? How amazingly scuzzy and inept is Dennis Franz's Carmine Lorenzo? Did they really need to go the sequelitis route of just repeating famous beats from the first film? And has there been a better villain introduction than William Sadler's totally nude Colonel Stuart? PLUS: Dennis Franz storms out of a screening of the film Her! Die Hard 2 stars Bruce Willis, Bonnie Bedelia, William Sadler, Franco Nero, John Amos, Reginald VelJohnson, William Atherton, Art Evans, Fred Thompson, Tom Bower, Sheila McCarthy, and Dennis Franz as Carmine Lorenzo; directed by Renny Harlin. Snag your tickets and don't miss us THIS THURSDAY, December 7th, at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City, NJ where we'll be doing a live show all about Tim Allen in The Santa Clause!
