Are you saying ‘yes' to the right things or the wrong things? In this episode, Jeff, Jeff, and Nate discuss: Nate's transition from growing up in Indiana to building waterfront homes in Florida. Leading in business and leading in ministry. Diving roles and bringing in outsiders in a family business. Separating leadership from ownership.   Key Takeaways: Be open to all opportunities - you never know the connections God will put in your life when you are open to serving, especially in the intersection of business and ministry. Consider your company's mission as a statement that everyone can live by, such as Potter Home's tagline: A Potter Home is built by our family, for your family, for the good of families in need. You cannot do it all alone. The yeses you say outside of the home, are nos that you say inside the home. Keep it simple, focused, and relational.   "If you have a heart for the Lord and heart for Jesus, hopefully, it's oozing out and influencing that you do." —  Nate Johnson Episode References: Lifesong for Orphans: https://lifesong.org/Harbor Network: https://www.harbornetwork.com/ About Nate Johnson: Nate Johnson is the President & CEO of Potter Homes and has been deeply connected with Southwest Florida and its growth for over the last 15 years.  Potter Homes is a high-end waterfront real estate developer with a portfolio of work all through the coast of Southwest Florida.Although Nate officially started his professional career in real estate development and construction management while attending Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, his involvement in the industry began much earlier. Growing up with his father working in the construction industry, they'd frequently visit job sites together and Nate quickly learned that he thoroughly enjoyed the components of design and creation that go into real estate and development.Nate cares deeply about the local church and has been involved in ministry efforts with Lifesong for Orphans, Harbor Network, and his local church Summit Church for over 15 years.Nate's goal is to have an integrated life, seeing all of his relationships, work, and service bring Glory to God while leading his family and seeing his kids flourish. Connect with Nate Johnson:Website: https://potter-homes.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/potter.homes/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nate-johnson-1642628b/   Connect with Jeff Thomas: Website: https://www.arkosglobal.com/Podcast: https://www.generousbusinessowner.com/Book: https://www.arkosglobal.com/trading-upEmail: jeff.thomas@arkosglobal.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/ArkosGlobalAdv Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/arkosglobal/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/arkosglobaladvisorsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/arkosglobaladvisors/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLUYpPwkHH7JrP6PrbHeBxw

SummaryBrian Sauvé shares his journey into ministry and the process of church planting and reformation. He discusses the challenges and lessons learned along the way, including the adoption of Reformed theology and the impact of 2020 on the church. Brian emphasizes the importance of humility, patience, and pastoral care in leading a church through change. He also explains the reasons for not joining a denomination and the future plans for his church. In this conversation, Brian Sauvé discusses the importance of embracing differences and working together in the church. He also emphasizes the significance of emphasizing masculinity and femininity in the church and why it is necessary to talk about these topics. Brian shares his approach to dealing with cancellation attempts and the purpose behind speaking truth and mocking idols. He concludes by providing information on where to follow him and stay connected with his work.TakeawaysHumility and patience are essential when leading a church through change.Building a like-minded congregation requires transparency, open dialogue, and pastoral care. Not every church is suitable for reformation, and it may be necessary to leave and find a more aligned community.Joining a denomination should be carefully considered, taking into account theological alignment and cultural compatibility. The process of church reformation requires a long-term vision and a commitment to shepherding the congregation. Embrace differences and work together in the church, even when there are disagreements. It is important to emphasize masculinity and femininity in the church and address cultural issues related to gender. When facing cancellation attempts, stay faithful to the truth and trust in God's blessing.Speaking truth and mocking idols is a pastoral duty to protect the people of God from cultural folly.Chapters00:00Introduction and Pronunciation of Last Name01:59Getting into Ministry03:00Church Planting and Reformation06:23Influence of Mark Driscoll07:51Transition to Lead Pastor09:19Adoption of Reformed Theology15:34Approach to Sermon Preparation20:08Impact of 2020 on the Church24:45Lessons Learned in Church Reformation31:28Reasons for Not Joining a Denomination41:38Embracing Differences and Working Together45:30The Importance of Emphasizing Masculinity56:11Dealing with Cancellation Attempts01:06:11The Purpose of Speaking Truth and Mocking Idols01:08:24Where to Follow Brian SauvéSupport the show!! - https://www.patreon.com/chasedavisBrian's Website - https://www.briansauve.com/Brian's Twitter - https://twitter.com/Brian_SauveNew Christendom Press - https://www.newchristendompress.com/King's Hall Podcast - https://www.kingshall.org/Refuge Church - https://www.refugeutah.org/Support the showSign up for the Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/chasedavisFollow Full Proof Theology on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/fullprooftheology/Follow Full Proof Theology on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/fullprooftheology/

CFTROU 0162: Faithful Neighborhood Mission-Based Presence with Brandon Shields Contrary to what is believed, there is immense power in preaching less, deepened listening, holding space, and hosting critical conversations. Brandon Shields, an author and passionate Man of God is here to discuss his family's journey of taking a leap of faith, moving to Indianapolis, planting their roots, and seeing the fruition of God's plan. You will hear how Brandon and Emily were intentionally willing to go where the spirit of God was working and how this lead them on the path of creating a neighborhood church. Brandon explains the power of slow, organic growth and the importance of presence, proximity, and particularity. Brandon explains the importance of meditating and soaking in the gospels, how to slow down and listen, and why a neighborhood church may be what you are needing! Key Points: Brandon's involvement in Harbor Network. How Brandon planted his roots in Indianapolis and began his mission of creating a church. Presence, proximity, and particularly: three key elements in Brandon's journey. The active role Brandon plays in his community. The failures and struggles Brandon faced. The power of hospitality. Moving from talking to practicing. How Brandon has helped start other neighborhood churches. The book of John, Luke, and Jeremiah as guides for understanding the actions of Jesus. Opportunities that are missed when the only focus is growth and reproduction. The power of the neighborhood church. How to pay attention to Jesus intentionally. We failed early, often, and fast. We didn't quit and kept asking ‘God, what do You doing?.Click To TweetSome of the beauty of a neighborhood church is the depth, although you don't have the width, you have the depth and the intimacy and simplicity and opportunities for embodimentClick To TweetPay attention to not just what Jesus said, but the way that Jesus livedClick To Tweet Links Mentioned in Today's Episode: Brandon Shields LinkedIn Brandon Shields Blog Soma Indy Harbor Network The Jesus Way on Amazon The Church and Its Vocation on Amazon Eternal Words and Changing Worlds on Amazon Resilient Faith on Amazon Jimmy on Twitter Leslee on Twitter Family Church Network Family Church on Facebook Family Church on Instagram Church for the Rest of Us on Twitter Get podcast updates delivered to your inbox. Casey Smith talks with Josh Jean, the lead pastor of Sojourn Beaumont. Josh begins by sharing what it was like growing up in a conservative homeschool setting in a "small" Texas town where his dad was a pastor. The desire to leave the small places where you're from is a common one, so Josh and Esther got out of Beaumont thinking they'd never return. But the Lord had other plans. Through a long and winding road they found themselves back in Beaumont planting a church. It's a typical church planting story in many ways, but don't be fooled by the stillness on the surface. There are some real nuggets of wisdom in this one if you're curious enough to explore them. If you do, you may just end up a better lover—lover of God and lover of others. CREDITSThis episode of This is Harbor Network is a production of Owens ProductionsProduced by Casey Smith and Mark OwensEdited and Mixed by Mark OwensMusic by Marc Wallach, Ayden Blackbird, and Flash Fluharty

Casey Smith and Ronnie Martin sit down with Scott Sauls for a conversation about wholehearted leadership, ministry friendships, and why church planting is good for the ego. Scott is married to Patti, and dad to Abby and Ellie. He also serves as senior pastor of Christ Presbyterian Church in Nashville, Tennessee. He was previously a lead and preaching pastor at Redeemer Presbyterian in New York City after planting two churches in Kansas City and St. Louis. He’s a pastor, church planter, husband, father, author, and lover of all things barbecue. Judging by some of the quotes below, you're going to love this conversation."I pass the test of adversity a lot better than I pass the test of prosperity. Be careful what you wish for.""I think the reason why it's so hard for pastors to have close friends in the church is that most of the time, you as the pastor are more committed to your people than your people are to you.""The beginning of your maturing process is when you decide to stay in a community when things get hard. American Christians are too soft, too fragile, and we peace out too quickly. We peace out before the maturing process begins."“Pastors, take heart. Your weakness is something God delights to use in order to bring hope into the lives of others.” CREDITSThis episode of This is Harbor Network is a production of Owens ProductionsProduced by Casey Smith and Mark OwensEdited and Mixed by Mark OwensMusic by Marc Wallach, Ayden Blackbird, and Flash Fluharty

Ronnie Martins talks with Sean Nolan, the lead pastor of Engage Albany. Sean begins by sharing how his parents' separation led him to become cynical and angry as a teenager, which led him to solidarity and a home within the punk rock community. Later on, he meets his now wife, Hannah, who introduces him to Jesus and together, they get connected to Terra Nova Church. Through these means, the Lord begins to peel back the layers of anger, frustration, and cynicism he experienced in his childhood. He finds a new community in the church, begins growing as a follower of Jesus, and as a result finds a new calling in being a pastor and ultimately, church planting. He goes on to describe how God's providence required and necessitated the need for him to wait on his desire to church plant by going through a difficult experience as a youth pastor and depression. Sean concludes by acknowledging that what he was longing for all along in his story was a friend. At the heart of the conversation is Sean’s love for Jesus, and that we are known and loved by a good and gracious Father.CREDITSThis episode of This is Harbor Network is a production of Owens ProductionsProduced by Casey Smith and Mark OwensEdited and Mixed by Mark OwensMusic by Marc Wallach, Ayden Blackbird, and Flash Fluharty

Ronnie Martin talks with Ed Marcelle, the Director of Church Planting and Multiplication at Harbor Network. He goes on to describe how as his faith began to grow and mature, his desire to pastor among the people in Albany, NY began to grow as well. He concludes with why church planting is for the longevity and sustainability of the 21st-century church and why joining Harbor Network is primarily about stewardship rather than legacy and prestige. At the heart of the conversation is Ed’s love for Jesus, the gospel, and his neighbors to follow Jesus as King.CREDITSThis episode of This is Harbor Network is a production of Owens ProductionsProduced by Casey Smith and Mark OwensEdited and Mixed by Mark OwensMusic by Marc Wallach, Ayden Blackbird, and Flash FluhartyFor more on Harbor Network, visit www.harbornetwork.com.
